Something tells me that Marikas hair is red when she is reaching inside the forbidden hot pocket and is only turning gold when we see her in her power pose.
I'm almost positive that's Radagon at the beginning of the trailer. He had golden hair before being cursed by the giants, would make sense for that scene. Idk how to make it fit with Marika and her betrayal but that's definitely a male figure holding the Strands in the air.
There is picture of godfrey impaled in this base game. Could this be Messmer doing? Also I am sure the person at the beginning was Marika. The stairs look identical to the one leading to the final boss in the base game and the bodies around is what became the erdtree or rather feeding the erdtree. We can get this from the catacombs with bodies at the erdtree roots which is claimed to be erdtree burial. Another thing. I think Miquella must have compelled Hewg and not Marika . So when his duty was fulfilled, he forgot everything

'An affair from which gold arose' I see this line as Marika's relationship with Godfrey, which laid the foundation for the golden order. 'From which gold arose' I think this refers to Godwyn the golden or even Miquella. Marika seems to fashion a rune from the golden hair of someone. Possibly a baby Godwyn? The betrayal could be when Mairka stripped Godfrey and his soldiers of their Grace after defeating his greatest foe.
Marika's reign started with Godfrey, but he seems unrelated to the current Golden Order. It may be possible that the configuration of the Elden Ring back then was different and their union symbolized a different Order. The Golden Order was created when the Rune of Death was removed from it, and it seems Godfrey's reign still had very much death still in it, hence not only the wars and conquest, but also the colosseums around the lands, which are hinted to be from Godfrey's time. Not only this, but Godfrey is related to the CRUCIBLE, to the primordial form of the Erdtree, with the crucible knights whose gold is red tinted, "closer to life itself". Additionaly the Amber talismans for HP, FP and MP were said to be very precious in the time of Godfrey because of the dew that dropped from the Erdrtree and crystalized into those ambers, so we can assume this was still when the Erdtree was a physical, real tree that dripped magical dew, like the minor erdtrees, which are the only ones that give the tears for the physick flask, which is mentioned to be an "ancient" flask, That means that Godfrey is more related to the crucible, to the primordial form of the Erdtree, and gold arose after he was divested of Grace, so after all of his time as Elden Lord. It's possible that, if the Erdtree was ever burned before our tarnished does, which is sort of implied with the ashen remains in Leyndell pre-burning, + the look of the tree as some sort of spectral projection, maybe the trailer depicts THAT moment, the moment the tree transformed from a twisted, dying thing that was burned by someone so blasphemous that even if he was fighting on Marika's side, they won't talk about him or his acts. The divesting of Godfrey from grace is not mentioned as a bloody event, he simply lost the gold hue of his eyes after defeating his last foe, as well as his tarnished, and Marika supposedly talked to them in a rather "pacific" manner, as if it was a lecture to go and die somewhere else (also that, she wanted him and the tarnished to die somewhere else to later come back, which COULD be the shadow lands / badlands, but i personally think that doesn't add up)

The painting in the opening cinematic shows Godfrey impaled a multitude of times to a tree with a bird in the background. And since becoming tarnished requires death, then doesn't that inherently spell out a different story?

I think that the omen purge didn't happen right after Marika became the god. First war that happened was the war with the giants. That is because the giant wickerman has a giants head attached to its waist. I also believe that Mesmer commands the giant's flame and he could have only obtained access to it after the giants were defeated and Marika forces gained access to the Forge Of The Giants. Perhaps the whole purpose of the war with the giants was just to obtain the flame so that Marika could burn the crucible tree?
33:27 I think the Bandai Namco DLC website gives more insight into why Miquella is guiding Tarnished into the Land of Shadow. "And now Miquella awaits the return of his promised Lord." I think Miquella wants a lord/consort to ascend to godhood. Maybe an empyrean getting a lord is a step to them becoming a god. Mohg wanted to ascend Miquella to godhood and to become his consort, and the player can become Ranni's lord/consort. I think his goal is to ascend to godhood to heal his sister. To keep his "promise" mentioned in the description of Malenia's armor set.

Marikas affair was with the greater will. It gave her godhood secretly while she held a role in the existing order. Messmer is a child with radagon but sold as her husband's son. The old man. Marika was tempted by the greater will, gave in, and performed a coup against that existing order.
i can actually agree since what we certainly know about Marika so far is that she constantly betrays and abandons her consorts. So it could be possible that she was also dragonlord's consort before the age of erdtree, then she fled to land of shadows, found another consort, betrayed him, and established golden order and continued the same cycle of seduction and betrayal in the lands between. That's why there's dragon aspects in holy incants. but then it's just a wild headcannon and im just overthinking and should just be patient for the expansion.
21:49 Perhaps these are burnt/dead versions of those grandad two-finger trees (I just made that up) we see in the gameplay trailer. One behind the navy hood gurl doing the sailor moon butterfly spin (here in the vid at 7:18), and several by the trench-coat lion dudes arena. Also, there's a shot where the riding tarnished halts suddenly at a cliff's edge and the camera raises towards the Shadow Tree. In the field ahead we see these gnarly look-alikes that might be the same thing. Maybe Messmer's flame does a bit more extra work to them than just burning. Mhm.

I dont know if it's true, but I like the concept of there being potentially three gold-affiliated goddesses. It would mirror the three silvery moon powerhouses of Ranni, Rennala, and Renna. And we know this game loves when people come in threes, almost as much as when they come in pairs! I haven't seen anyone compare Memory of Grace to the gap in the bodies in the most recent trailer, that's a good catch. Somewhat relatedly, I continue to not understand the Grace Mimic and why it looks like a little sculpture of a person. Wild speculation but, the Prince of Death's Throne looks very similar to that fleshy gateway in the story trailer but instead of corpses it's made out of deathblight roots and Godwyn eyes. So what if it's also a gateway and Godwyn's mutated corpse is blocking the entrance to wherever it would take you. Perhaps it leads back to the Land of Shadow and Miquella wanted Godwyn to die a true death because that would remove the corpse and Miquella has business in the Land of Shadow.
Oh boy, the hype is getting REEEEAL! Interesting stuff as per usual Moxie! The find of the new NPC being connected to Farum Azula was mind blowing. I wonder if this character will be an aspect of Miquella, like Millicent is for Malenia. It’s just something about her that seems so unique in the design. Also covering her right eye with the sword that has a cross guard very similar to the Sacred Relic sword.. I feel like there’s so much information around the game now through items and speculation from the community it’s getting more difficult to anchor what we see to something that feels "most" likely. Like "the seduction and the betrayal". Is that Marika seducing the old guy in the painting or is it Radagon seducing the GEQ? When was even Radagon? And how was Messmer Concieved? Now I’m also asking how death works/worked in the time of war shown in the trailer. Like the lion dancers looks dead and impaled. So does that mean that they were then removed and revived, or are there three new dancers who are trying to continue the practice of this culture, and that’s why we’ll fight them in the DLC? Sooo many questions rn.
I get the impression that Marika used Messmer as her sacrificial lamb to end the age of the crucible and bring about her age of grace, and then hid him, and her own sins away in the land of shadow. Which I think also means Marika/Radagon have always been two consciousnesses in one body, and I think also hints that Marika and Radagon either shared the same philosophy at one point or Marika was in complete control of both aspects of themselves and used Radagon on several occasions to further her own goals. makes me wonder if, or how much Miquella can control St. Trina in that case. I completely agree that the *ahem* gussy, that Marika is reaching into at the start of the trailer is probably the Gloam eyed queen. I just think that makes the most sense given the context clues. Ask for Miquella, I wouldn't put it past Miyazaki to pull a Berserk and make him a Griffith type character. He's called "kind" Miquella and hinted many times over to have some sort of power that makes him captivating to other people. Maybe people don't follow him entirely because they agree with his philosophy or even entirely by choice. Maybe he vexes people in some way in order to use them? Idk honestly I am for genuine altruistic good guy Miquella or crazy psychopathic schemer Miquella. Either is good with me. Either way, what a sick trailer. I am super stoked.
Add the fact that it’s gaining steam that Melina is Miquella. If that’s true then we didn’t have free will ourselves. You can’t progress the game without Melina’s help in gaining power to burning the erdtree. Miquella may have been our maiden and used us all along.
Not sure about that. This cinematic already showed Marika doing a "Griffith". She literally walking over a mound of body sacrifices, having betrayed those she was close, to attain her kingdom and her power. Miquella might want to erase it all or right the wrongs she committed, perhaps understanding the flaw will allow him to create his ideal kingdom
Why would Marika have to hide the Land of Shadow and her dominance over the previous age if she can force her subjects into accepting it with the Elden Ring and the example of the age of abundance as reasoning?
Miquella is described as fearsome and terrifying which is weird if he's supposed to be purely benevolent. I think he is capable of a kind of mind control.

hello Goddess! in all this trailer frenzy i serendipitously stumbled upon THE inspiration for the Elden Beast: a Sea Slug of the name Cyerce Elegans - in English, the Elegant Butterfly Seaslug; these nudiBranch - the bootanycal name - have interesting characterics: "... a species of butterfly sea slug, it boasts translucent cerata that are white, cream, brownish or reddish in colour and have luminous edges as well as iridescent blue and green spots near the base." Cerata... is a word for HORNS in sea slugs. this really gives EB Earth/Material, Gaia vibes, the flow of form movements had me think of sans gravity space and mimic ocean just as much. material life started below the sea and hexpanded onto lands over tarnillion of years. so in ER we have a surface prose play hexplaining through myths our stories we tell to touch the deep mysteries of life in the lands beyond words, infused by our dualistic moral and ethical considerations. unfortunately am not as versed as to put all my synchronicity finds into a coherent storyline but i wanted to offer you this byte for fun and it case that it serves you one way or the other - i am a HUGE sssssnuker for the clay folks on the beach scene and all the slugs in the lands between were always so poignant yet made no sense to me - until mildly more now, at least i have a link to connect ahead 🐉💜
p.s. i happen to observe slugs mating, they have a blue-ish sac filled with baby slug matter that one slug pushes out of a tiny hole next to their eye area and the other one pulls the sac in to their same hole different body 🚬👀
I searched for images of this slug and some do resemble Elden Beast a little bit, so it's possible you are right. Plus, aren't slugs hermaphrodites that have both male and female reproductive organs in one body? That sounds a little like a certain god we're very familiar with...

The images we see in the DLC story trailer show Marika creating the Erdtree, as the narrator says that both Gold and Shadow are being created. Gold refers to Marika's Golden Order and her Erdtree, while Shadow refers to the Shadow of Marika's Erdtree (as the title of the DLC says). Order of events: - Marika removes Destined Death from the Elden Ring and creates the Erdtree and the Golden Order. This comes with her ascension to godhood. - At some point later Marika shatters the Elden Ring and consequently gets imprisoned in the Erdtree (presumably by the Elden Beast or the Greater Will, but this is not entirely certain). So after Marika establishes the Golden Order, she's not getting imprisoned for it. Her imprisonment happens after the Shattering. This means that manipulation of the Elden Ring did not result in imprisonment, but destruction did. Marika's crucification is a consequence of the Shattering.

@@moxiewatts Yes, my theory is that the images show Marika in the process of creating the Erdtree (after removing Destined Death i.e. the Rune of Death, then given to Maliketh). Miquella is talking about the "beginning". It is unclear what exactly he means by that, but in combination with the imagery I strongly suspect that he's speaking of the creation of the Erdtree (following Marika's manipulation of the Elden Ring). That begs the question what's all that about an "affair" and "betrayal"? I have ideas, but nothing concrete. Perhaps Messmer feels betrayed by Marika? Of course the developers could be tricking us with the imagery and the "beginning", so perhaps I'm on the wrong track. That would be mean though ;) I'm certain that it's not Marika being crucified, because we have a more strongly supported explanation with the creation of the Erdtree. Marika's actions set Messmer's purge in motion, but we don't know her exact role in that. I'm sure the final reveal of this plot point will have huge implications on Marika's story arc. It'll tell us a lot about how her motivations evolved over time and what exactly she did to become a god to begin with. Did she intend for the purge to happen, perhaps even order it? Or is Messmer acting out of his own volition? I can't wait to see what the DLC reveals to us. PS: an interesting detail is that, in Marika's scene in the story trailer, Radagon may've already taken shape within Marika (not confirmed, but other people are seeing something similar). This would be very strange and I can't figure out how it would work. Maybe Radagon was already Marika? Or maybe with her ascension to godhood also came their merger? This would have very strange implications. But it's merely speculation on my part, maybe I'm just seeing things.
Btw I could be wrong but I haven't heard anyone say this - the gameplay trailer where we see Miquella all glowey at the end - the initial shot of that you can see the ground below him and it looks (to me anyway) alot like the corpse floor that marika walks over in this trailer, so that could literally be where the dlc ends
Thank you for being the first creator to bring up Hewg that I've seen so far. I personally was wondering about why Hewg is scared of Marika and why Marika believes Hewg can smith a weapon to kill a god. Hewg mentioned he is immortally tied to the Roundtable Hold. I think that Hewg is one of Marika's oldest followers and is the living witness to what Marika did in the Land of Shadow. I think Hewg created the weapon that killed the Gloam-Eyed Queen and Marika imprisons him to keep him from smithing a weapon that can kill her, but does approach him later on to do just that.

So why doesnt Markia hide him in the shadow realm along with the rune of death? To keep it away from Messmer? I feel like Farum Azula is part of that structure under the shadow tree.

Lady in the portrait is the gloam eyed queen and is married to dude in the same portrait. Gloam eyed queen was also Marika. Pregnant Gloam eyed queen Marika give birth to Messmer hence his mother message from the first trailer. Gloam eyed queen/Marika were done with old dude so she started the godskins to murder old dude. They hatch the plan for old dude and take his out. From the later part of trailer 1 with old dude you see him pulling his head off with this internal metal looking, skeleton, sword, structure thing. This was the work of the Gloam eyed queen/Marika when she takes the elden ring from the clothing as that looks pretty close to the clothing old dude wheres in the portrait and I think you can make out a hand or something else just inside when she takes it. All the bodies and blood shown in the story trailer are the old dudes 'gods' or protectors or something and where the godskins got their clothes from hence all the faces in them. When she does this she drop the gloam eyed queen and takes on radagon personality as it looks like this happens when the elden ring is held up bc the it's a manly looking figure holding it up. Now Marika/Radagon leave it all behind birthing the erd tree era. As we see she leaves messier so he's hot and says you oh you don't like the crucible/omens/horns/wild ish, then I'll burn it all down so you'll come back to me mommy. She clearly does not so he's got major mommy issues now. Miquella is also st Trina and I think he was to be the next in line for the thrown. Night of the black knives occurs and Miquella loses his older bro godwin who has been a hero to him his whole life. Marika is upset bc the golden order has shown to be weak so she says nobody is getting my precious the elden ring and pow breaks that b up. With everything that's happened miquella learns more about the past and the land of shadow and begins a scheme to get there. Think maybe that has to do with his halig tree hence why all the beasties and weird things like it around there cuz they are waitingto get back to old times. Mohg f's it all up so it didn't completely work so now we have to go grab his hand to go to the shadow land and fix what mohg messed up. Just some random thoughts cobbled together for what it's worth.
The fact that the finger slayer blade cannot be wielded by those with out a fate has to play some important role here. Especially how they hilight the fact that Miquella relinquished his own. Ranni did so by killing herself. Does that mean Miquella is dead in body as well? Does everyone have a fate? The Black knife Assassins must have. The demi-gods were fated to die until the rune of death was plucked. Who doesnt have a fate? Is it that if you are immortal, you cant use it? Radahn halted the stars and thus halted fate, yet we can still wield it. Although im not sure if you can legitimately get it before killing him. It must have been used at least a few times to kill fingers considering its name. Its clearly in the image of the god that was killed to make it (im assuming the GEQ) in the same way the Sacred Relic Sword looks like the corpse of Radagon. So the God Slaying Sword must be the corpse of the god killed the age befor that by the GEQ. We can glean as to what they could have looked like. Draconic and bird-like imo. Which makes me think of Placidusax and his god that fled.
The Burning of the City is 1:1 the Burning of Harrenhal. Messmer here is a reference to Balerion, who is a reference to Ancalagon the Black However, the First Dragon of LotR was Glaurung, the Flightless. While he was Gold, I imagine Black is a common colour when dragging oneself across the earth. WHAT ARE GIANT FLIGHTLESS DRAGONS? Magma Wyrms. 28:40 Marika came to be against the actions of the Golden Order fundamentalists, but she's not against the Golden Order per se. She created the Golden Order herself, she created the fundamentals and the Erdtree, and it was her source of power. She came to disagree with the actions of her fundamentalist followers, who began to systematically hunt down Those Who Live In Death. She realized that she had made a mistake after she saw the consequences of her actions. Or at least that's a common theory. When did she realize this mistake? Certainly not during her campaign that led to the purge. That was during a time when she was fully determined to become a god at any cost.
I guess where my mind races to is when Godwyn died. she was "Driven to the Brink."-- but then that also calls into question how big the gap of time was between Godwyn's death and when the Elden Ring Shattered. I guess we were definitely vague here about her being against the golden order- she is against it but that only came as a result of Godwyns death in our eyes. I dunno~ thoughts??
@@moxiewatts Godwyn was killed by a group of Black Knife Assassins. This was a scheme laid out by Ranni, who stole a fragment of the Rune of Death. Marika, being the one to have removed Destined Death to begin with, must've been shocked to see Godwyn be killed from the consequences of her own doing. Ranni would've never been able to kill Godwyn had Marika kept the Elden Ring intact. Thus the creation of the Golden Order set everything into motion that would consequently lead to Godwyn's death. Worst of all, only his soul died. His mother could never see him die a true death, and that certainly didn't help her mental state.
So aside from my dragon God theory, my other crazy theory is that Radagon existed BEFORE Marika, and Marika was literally born from the gold... Marika might be the "shadow". 🤔
I've heard alot of people think that the shadow tree is sapping the gold from the light tree, but what if it's the other way around? Like these shadows rising up in the shadow world are maybe because the light is being drained from them by the tree? I have no evidence, just a thought.

Note the only thing that looks like the body-cliffs is Rykard and his blasphemous blade. And Rykard was trying to become a god, So making some sort of flesh amalgamation seems to be part of becoming a god. It also ties to Miquella embedding himself in the haligtree. Maybe Rykard tried to turn his own body into something like the golden portal thing, and Miquella did something similar. Perhaps Miquella was even behind the scenes of Rykard's transformation, a sick test to see what would happen to him. I think one or the other has to be true that either the birth of gold in the trailer is not literally gold coming into existence, because we see her taking gold and then holding it up. It must be the gathering of Gold into a power; OR we've been lied to about what is and isn't gold and gold is actually sepearate from life and more specifically, light I think that is why miquella's plans failed. He though unalloyed gold would be pure primordial light, *but it's not*. Marika retconned history. there was light, white, and life, red. the primordial spirit energy of runes or light or whatever and what she pulled from the corpses was not gold, but light tinged with light, which LOOKS visually similar to the gold that would come from beyond The Lands Between. OR it just manifested in everyone's bodies as soon as it came into existence. ALSO THIS TREE IS MADE OF MEN and Dragons seem to have had gold and almost explicitly were alive when Man did not exist, So how could there be a golden order of dragons before gold was created in a mass sacrifice of humans that didn't exist yet. The whole thing doesn't add up if you take it at face value, there's a lie or something missing. Also the final image of the gate the ground is flat, the stairs she walked up are nowhere in sight. AND WHAT THE FUCK WERE THOSE STEPS The flesh gate is clearly artifical but how and where is there a MOUNTAIN SIZED STAIRCASE. Another possibility I suppose is that she took gold from the gods but I really don't believe that one. Melana is of course not the gloam Eyed Queen, there's more evidence that she's not than almost anything else in the game and I don't know why it's a popular theory. Why would the Gloam Eyed Queen be helping Queen Marika, Protecting The Erdtree, and not attempting to bring back Destined Death? It makes ZERO Sense. The Gloam Eyed Queens goals are almost EXACTLY opposite to Melana's. Also Melana Cherishes Life Clearly, something we might not expect of the Gloam Eyed Queen. I believe she is the INHERITOR of the Gloam Eyed Queen. The Ending is her reluctantly choosing to use the power fated to her to go after you, since all she cared about is gone now anyway. Ranni was supposed to become the new Master of the Full Moon and mirror her mother Renalla, but rejected her fate to instead follow in the footsteps of the Snowy Crone and Inherit the Power of The Dark Moon. Not sure about Godwyn, Radahn, and Melenia then though. Godwyn I suppose suceeded the Seat of the sun and has his fate diverted to inherit Destined Death (Which I think is different than the gloam eyed queens death in some way?); Melenia was supposed to be something else but got her fate grabbed by the Outer God of Rot attempting to divert her fate to become the Goddess of Rot, but (attempted) to instead follow the Blue Dancer and inherit the Power of the Siofra River and Renewal. Hewg is likely referring to Ranni's mentor. Ranni's clothes say the doll is fashioned after her mentor and its eye is blue like Roderika's. This is reinforced by the event at the church of Elleh with Ranni pretending to be "Renna" as if you don't skip this event it's how you get the spirit bell.

What if, the reason we need to go to the dragon boss area to use Miquella's needle, is cause he separated his land when his god fled, more like when the Erdtree was formed, so technically you're going back in time, and (just my guess form the look of the needle) changing the "makeup" of the needle cause back in the day "everything" was one, so (my guess yet again) the needles power would work back then but not now cause "something" was removed to change the make up of everything in the world, gold included but at the same time gold was created when the Erdtree was formed and Marika became a god, so who knows really

I think Miquella's seven followers are the seven soulless demigods from the seven wandering mausoleums. I think their souls weren't destroyed, but sent to the Land of Shadow and were convinced by Miquella to help him in exchanged for salvation/revenge/whatever. The newest image looks far too related to Miquella and Marika to be coincidence, in my opinion. I also think we'll probably fight them or help them depending on whether we join Miquella. There is picture of godfrey impaled in this base game. Could this be Messmer doing? Also I am sure the person at the beginning was Marika. The stairs look identical to the one leading to the final boss in the base game and the bodies around is what became the erdtree or rather feeding the erdtree. We can get this from the catacombs with bodies at the erdtree roots which is claimed to be erdtree burial.

'From which gold arose' I think this refers to Godwyn the golden or even Miquella. Marika seems to fashion a rune from the golden hair of someone. Possibly a baby Godwyn?
The betrayal could be when Mairka stripped Godfrey and his soldiers of their Grace after defeating his greatest foe.
Marika's reign started with Godfrey, but he seems unrelated to the current Golden Order. It may be possible that the configuration of the Elden Ring back then was different and their union symbolized a different Order. The Golden Order was created when the Rune of Death was removed from it, and it seems Godfrey's reign still had very much death still in it, hence not only the wars and conquest, but also the colosseums around the lands, which are hinted to be from Godfrey's time.
Not only this, but Godfrey is related to the CRUCIBLE, to the primordial form of the Erdtree, with the crucible knights whose gold is red tinted, "closer to life itself". Additionaly the Amber talismans for HP, FP and MP were said to be very precious in the time of Godfrey because of the dew that dropped from the Erdrtree and crystalized into those ambers, so we can assume this was still when the Erdtree was a physical, real tree that dripped magical dew, like the minor erdtrees, which are the only ones that give the tears for the physick flask, which is mentioned to be an "ancient" flask,
That means that Godfrey is more related to the crucible, to the primordial form of the Erdtree, and gold arose after he was divested of Grace, so after all of his time as Elden Lord.
It's possible that, if the Erdtree was ever burned before our tarnished does, which is sort of implied with the ashen remains in Leyndell pre-burning, + the look of the tree as some sort of spectral projection, maybe the trailer depicts THAT moment, the moment the tree transformed from a twisted, dying thing that was burned by someone so blasphemous that even if he was fighting on Marika's side, they won't talk about him or his acts.
The divesting of Godfrey from grace is not mentioned as a bloody event, he simply lost the gold hue of his eyes after defeating his last foe, as well as his tarnished, and Marika supposedly talked to them in a rather "pacific" manner, as if it was a lecture to go and die somewhere else (also that, she wanted him and the tarnished to die somewhere else to later come back, which COULD be the shadow lands / badlands, but i personally think that doesn't add up)

I think that the omen purge didn't happen right after Marika became the god. First war that happened was the war with the giants. That is because the giant wickerman has a giants head attached to its waist. I also believe that Mesmer commands the giant's flame and he could have only obtained access to it after the giants were defeated and Marika forces gained access to the Forge Of The Giants. Perhaps the whole purpose of the war with the giants was just to obtain the flame so that Marika could burn the crucible tree?

33:27 I think the Bandai Namco DLC website gives more insight into why Miquella is guiding Tarnished into the Land of Shadow. "And now Miquella awaits the return of his promised Lord." I think Miquella wants a lord/consort to ascend to godhood. Maybe an empyrean getting a lord is a step to them becoming a god. Mohg wanted to ascend Miquella to godhood and to become his consort, and the player can become Ranni's lord/consort. I think his goal is to ascend to godhood to heal his sister. To keep his "promise" mentioned in the description of Malenia's armor set.

Marikas affair was with the greater will. It gave her godhood secretly while she held a role in the existing order. Messmer is a child with radagon but sold as her husband's son. The old man. Marika was tempted by the greater will, gave in, and performed a coup against that existing order.
i can actually agree since what we certainly know about Marika so far is that she constantly betrays and abandons her consorts. So it could be possible that she was also dragonlord's consort before the age of erdtree, then she fled to land of shadows, found another consort, betrayed him, and established golden order and continued the same cycle of seduction and betrayal in the lands between. That's why there's dragon aspects in holy incants. but then it's just a wild headcannon and im just overthinking and should just be patient for the expansion.

One behind the navy hood gurl doing the sailor moon butterfly spin (here in the vid at 7:18), and several by the trench-coat lion dudes arena. Also, there's a shot where the riding tarnished halts suddenly at a cliff's edge and the camera raises towards the Shadow Tree. In the field ahead we see these gnarly look-alikes that might be the same thing. Maybe Messmer's flame does a bit more extra work to them than just burning. Mhm.

Wild speculation but, the Prince of Death's Throne looks very similar to that fleshy gateway in the story trailer but instead of corpses it's made out of deathblight roots and Godwyn eyes. So what if it's also a gateway and Godwyn's mutated corpse is blocking the entrance to wherever it would take you. Perhaps it leads back to the Land of Shadow and Miquella wanted Godwyn to die a true death because that would remove the corpse and Miquella has business in the Land of Shadow.

I feel like there’s so much information around the game now through items and speculation from the community it’s getting more difficult to anchor what we see to something that feels "most" likely. Like "the seduction and the betrayal". Is that Marika seducing the old guy in the painting or is it Radagon seducing the GEQ? When was even Radagon? And how was Messmer Concieved?
Now I’m also asking how death works/worked in the time of war shown in the trailer. Like the lion dancers looks dead and impaled. So does that mean that they were then removed and revived, or are there three new dancers who are trying to continue the practice of this culture, and that’s why we’ll fight them in the DLC? She literally walking over a mound of body sacrifices, having betrayed those she was close, to attain her kingdom and her power. in all this trailer frenzy i serendipitously stumbled upon THE inspiration for the Elden Beast:
a Sea Slug of the name Cyerce Elegans - in English, the Elegant Butterfly Seaslug;
these nudiBranch - the bootanycal name - have interesting characterics:
"... a species of butterfly sea slug, it boasts translucent cerata that are white, cream, brownish or reddish in colour and have luminous edges as well as iridescent blue and green spots near the base."
Cerata... is a word for HORNS in sea slugs.
this really gives EB Earth/Material, Gaia vibes, the flow of form movements had me think of sans gravity space and mimic ocean just as much. material life started below the sea and hexpanded onto lands over tarnillion of years.
so in ER we have a surface prose play hexplaining through myths our stories we tell to touch the deep mysteries of life in the lands beyond words, infused by our dualistic moral and ethical considerations. unfortunately am not as versed as to put all my synchronicity finds into a coherent storyline but i wanted to offer you this byte for fun and it case that it serves you one way or the other -

p.s. i happen to observe slugs mating, they have a blue-ish sac filled with baby slug matter that one slug pushes out of a tiny hole next to their eye area and the other one pulls the sac in to their same hole different body 🚬👀

The images we see in the DLC story trailer show Marika creating the Erdtree, as the narrator says that both Gold and Shadow are being created. Gold refers to Marika's Golden Order and her Erdtree, while Shadow refers to the Shadow of Marika's Erdtree (as the title of the DLC says).
Order of events:
- Marika removes Destined Death from the Elden Ring and creates the Erdtree and the Golden Order. This comes with her ascension to godhood.
- At some point later Marika shatters the Elden Ring and consequently gets imprisoned in the Erdtree (presumably by the Elden Beast or the Greater Will, but this is not entirely certain).
So after Marika establishes the Golden Order, she's not getting imprisoned for it. Her imprisonment happens after the Shattering. This means that manipulation of the Elden Ring did not result in imprisonment, but destruction did.
Marika's crucification is a consequence of the Shattering.
You have a real good hold on the lore, so like....Oh ok I see so this could be Marika literally removing destined death here [is that what you mean?]...I am tracking because that is what created the golden order....but is time convoluted in this sense because to me there is something that makes the order of events really wonky here.

@@moxiewatts Yes, my theory is that the images show Marika in the process of creating the Erdtree (after removing Destined Death i.e. the Rune of Death, then given to Maliketh). Miquella is talking about the "beginning". It is unclear what exactly he means by that, but in combination with the imagery I strongly suspect that he's speaking of the creation of the Erdtree (following Marika's manipulation of the Elden Ring).
That begs the question what's all that about an "affair" and "betrayal"? I have ideas, but nothing concrete. Perhaps Messmer feels betrayed by Marika?
Of course the developers could be tricking us with the imagery and the "beginning", so perhaps I'm on the wrong track. That would be mean though ;)
I'm certain that it's not Marika being crucified, because we have a more strongly supported explanation with the creation of the Erdtree.
Marika's actions set Messmer's purge in motion, but we don't know her exact role in that. I'm sure the final reveal of this plot point will have huge implications on Marika's story arc. It'll tell us a lot about how her motivations evolved over time and what exactly she did to become a god to begin with. Did she intend for the purge to happen, perhaps even order it? Or is Messmer acting out of his own volition? I can't wait to see what the DLC reveals to us.
PS: an interesting detail is that, in Marika's scene in the story trailer, Radagon may've already taken shape within Marika (not confirmed, but other people are seeing something similar). This would be very strange and I can't figure out how it would work. Maybe Radagon was already Marika? Or maybe with her ascension to godhood also came their merger? This would have very strange implications. But it's merely speculation on my part, maybe I'm just seeing things.
Can I just say how much I appreciate fromsoft for putting out a gameplay trailer before a cg for dlc.
Btw I could be wrong but I haven't heard anyone say this - the gameplay trailer where we see Miquella all glowey at the end - the initial shot of that you can see the ground below him and it looks (to me anyway) alot like the corpse floor that marika walks over in this trailer, so that could literally be where the dlc ends

Thank you for being the first creator to bring up Hewg that I've seen so far. I personally was wondering about why Hewg is scared of Marika and why Marika believes Hewg can smith a weapon to kill a god. Hewg mentioned he is immortally tied to the Roundtable Hold. I think that Hewg is one of Marika's oldest followers and is the living witness to what Marika did in the Land of Shadow. I think Hewg created the weapon that killed the Gloam-Eyed Queen and Marika imprisons him to keep him from smithing a weapon that can kill her, but does approach him later on to do just that.

Lady in the portrait is the gloam eyed queen and is married to dude in the same portrait. Gloam eyed queen was also Marika. Pregnant Gloam eyed queen Marika give birth to Messmer hence his mother message from the first trailer. Gloam eyed queen/Marika were done with old dude so she started the godskins to murder old dude. They hatch the plan for old dude and take his out. From the later part of trailer 1 with old dude you see him pulling his head off with this internal metal looking, skeleton, sword, structure thing. This was the work of the Gloam eyed queen/Marika when she takes the elden ring from the clothing as that looks pretty close to the clothing old dude wheres in the portrait and I think you can make out a hand or something else just inside when she takes it. All the bodies and blood shown in the story trailer are the old dudes 'gods' or protectors or something and where the godskins got their clothes from hence all the faces in them. When she does this she drop the gloam eyed queen and takes on radagon personality as it looks like this happens when the elden ring is held up bc the it's a manly looking figure holding it up. Now Marika/Radagon leave it all behind birthing the erd tree era. With everything that's happened miquella learns more about the past and the land of shadow and begins a scheme to get there. Think maybe that has to do with his halig tree hence why all the beasties and weird things like it around there cuz they are waitingto get back to old times. Mohg f's it all up so it didn't completely work so now we have to go grab his hand to go to the shadow land and fix what mohg messed up. Just some random thoughts cobbled together for what it's worth.
The fact that the finger slayer blade cannot be wielded by those with out a fate has to play some important role here. Especially how they hilight the fact that Miquella relinquished his own.
Ranni did so by killing herself. Does that mean Miquella is dead in body as well? Does everyone have a fate? The Black knife Assassins must have. The demi-gods were fated to die until the rune of death was plucked. Who doesnt have a fate? Is it that if you are immortal, you cant use it?
Radahn halted the stars and thus halted fate, yet we can still wield it. Although im not sure if you can legitimately get it before killing him. It must have been used at least a few times to kill fingers considering its name.
Its clearly in the image of the god that was killed to make it (im assuming the GEQ) in the same way the Sacred Relic Sword looks like the corpse of Radagon. So the God Slaying Sword must be the corpse of the god killed the age befor that by the GEQ. We can glean as to what they could have looked like. Draconic and bird-like imo. Which makes me think of Placidusax and his god that fled.

She realized that she had made a mistake after she saw the consequences of her actions. Or at least that's a common theory.
When did she realize this mistake? Certainly not during her campaign that led to the purge. That was during a time when she was fully determined to become a god at any cost.
I guess where my mind races to is when Godwyn died. she was "Driven to the Brink."-- but then that also calls into question how big the gap of time was between Godwyn's death and when the Elden Ring Shattered. I guess we were definitely vague here about her being against the golden order- she is against it but that only came as a result of Godwyns death in our eyes. I dunno~ thoughts??

Marika, being the one to have removed Destined Death to begin with, must've been shocked to see Godwyn be killed from the consequences of her own doing. Ranni would've never been able to kill Godwyn had Marika kept the Elden Ring intact. Thus the creation of the Golden Order set everything into motion that would consequently lead to Godwyn's death. Worst of all, only his soul died. His mother could never see him die a true death, and that certainly didn't help her mental state.
So aside from my dragon God theory, my other crazy theory is that Radagon existed BEFORE Marika, and Marika was literally born from the gold... Marika might be the "shadow".

I've heard alot of people think that the shadow tree is sapping the gold from the light tree, but what if it's the other way around? Like these shadows rising up in the shadow world are maybe because the light is being drained from them by the tree? I have no evidence, just a thought.

Note the only thing that looks like the body-cliffs is Rykard and his blasphemous blade. And Rykard was trying to become a god, So making some sort of flesh amalgamation seems to be part of becoming a god. It also ties to Miquella embedding himself in the haligtree. Maybe Rykard tried to turn his own body into something like the golden portal thing, and Miquella did something similar. Perhaps Miquella was even behind the scenes of Rykard's transformation, a sick test to see what would happen to him.
I think one or the other has to be true that either the birth of gold in the trailer is not literally gold coming into existence, because we see her taking gold and then holding it up. It must be the gathering of Gold into a power; OR we've been lied to about what is and isn't gold and gold is actually sepearate from life and more specifically, light I think that is why miquella's plans failed. He though unalloyed gold would be pure primordial light, *but it's not*. Marika retconned history. there was light, white, and life, red. the primordial spirit energy of runes or light or whatever and what she pulled from the corpses was not gold, but light tinged with light, which LOOKS visually similar to the gold that would come from beyond The Lands Between. OR it just manifested in everyone's bodies as soon as it came into existence. ALSO THIS TREE IS MADE OF MEN and Dragons seem to have had gold and almost explicitly were alive when Man did not exist, So how could there be a golden order of dragons before gold was created in a mass sacrifice of humans that didn't exist yet. The whole thing doesn't add up if you take it at face value, there's a lie or something missing. Also the final image of the gate the ground is flat, the stairs she walked up are nowhere in sight. AND WHAT THE FUCK WERE THOSE STEPS The flesh gate is clearly artifical but how and where is there a MOUNTAIN SIZED STAIRCASE. Another possibility I suppose is that she took gold from the gods but I really don't believe that one.

I think St Trina is dead but alive in some way, and Miquella was supposed to eventually become the new incarnation, probably losing himself in the process, something he has rejected. Melana is of course not the gloam Eyed Queen, there's more evidence that she's not than almost anything else in the game and I don't know why it's a popular theory. Why would the Gloam Eyed Queen be helping Queen Marika, Protecting The Erdtree, and not attempting to bring back Destined Death? It makes ZERO Sense. The Gloam Eyed Queens goals are almost EXACTLY opposite to Melana's. Also Melana Cherishes Life Clearly, something we might not expect of the Gloam Eyed Queen. I believe she is the INHERITOR of the Gloam Eyed Queen. The Ending is her reluctantly choosing to use the power fated to her to go after you, since all she cared about is gone now anyway. Ranni was supposed to become the new Master of the Full Moon and mirror her mother Renalla, but rejected her fate to instead follow in the footsteps of the Snowy Crone and Inherit the Power of The Dark Moon. Not sure about Godwyn, Radahn, and Melenia then though. Godwyn I suppose suceeded the Seat of the sun and has his fate diverted to inherit Destined Death (Which I think is different than the gloam eyed queens death in some way?); Melenia was supposed to be something else but got her fate grabbed by the Outer God of Rot attempting to divert her fate to become the Goddess of Rot, but (attempted) to instead follow the Blue Dancer and inherit the Power of the Siofra River and Renewal. Radhan...IDK...I think we haven't seen his mirror, I imagine it's part of why he raged against Fate though, Whether that's because his Mirror was against fate and he's channelling him or because he DOESN'T want to turn into his mirror idk. I'm really curious which side Radahn's Mirror and St trina are on relative to eachother, because Him and Miquella seem to be against eachother. I Also think it's odd that Miquella went to such great lengths to try and restore fate, then abandoned it. Morgott Mirrors Painting Dude but His Omen Nature I think prevented him from inhereting the Powers he was supposed to; same with Mogh though I don't know who his Mirror could Possibly Be.

Hewg is likely referring to Ranni's mentor. Ranni's clothes say the doll is fashioned after her mentor and its eye is blue like Roderika's. This is reinforced by the event at the church of Elleh with Ranni pretending to be "Renna" as if you don't skip this event it's how you get the spirit bell.

What if, the reason we need to go to the dragon boss area to use Miquella's needle, is cause he separated his land when his god fled, more like when the Erdtree was formed, so technically you're going back in time, and (just my guess form the look of the needle) changing the "makeup" of the needle cause back in the day "everything" was one, so (my guess yet again) the needles power would work back then but not now cause "something" was removed to change the make up of everything in the world, gold included but at the same time gold was created when the Erdtree was formed and Marika became a god, so who knows really
But at the same time, I just have this sneaking suspicion that this was all about Radagon and not Marika, maybe it's just me but that person at the top of the stairs holding up that rune like thing........that's not a woman...... Radagon seduced the Gloam Eye Queen (Marika) stole her grace, and together with Messmer (Brother haha but maybe) who took control of the shadow lands and Radagon became a god (with Marika) of the lands between and many many years later she's fighting back with the help of Radagon's mistakes

I think Miquella's seven followers are the seven soulless demigods from the seven wandering mausoleums. I think their souls weren't destroyed, but sent to the Land of Shadow and were convinced by Miquella to help him in exchanged for salvation/revenge/whatever. The newest image looks far too related to Miquella and Marika to be coincidence, in my opinion. I also think we'll probably fight them or help them depending on whether we join Miquella. Messmer may be A big bad, but probably not THE big bad.
