- Today, we're reacting to and reviewing Six Feet Under's latest track, "Know-Nothing Ingrate" from upcoming album Killing For Revenge. Will it be a surprise banger, or another total dud in the vein of Zodiac? Six Feet Under is one of the first death metal bands I ever heard as a kid, but these days they tend to be more of a punchline for me.

I don't know what has happened I just don't care for it. Their first I think two or three albums were amazing. That was one of the best summers of my life.
Times change, people change, music changes. Bands and people evolve, it happens.
On the bright side I think Chris's voice is uniquely his own now. It actually sounds kinda eerie. Like a grizzled, mad, ravaging lunatic, out for blood in a decrepit forest.

Honestly I love SFU's first album Haunted. Fun groovy songs with good vocals and spooky vibes. Classic cover as well

Was just on Metal Archives and Nightmares Of The Decomposed has an 18% rating from 13 reviews. That's an accomplishment in incompetence and hard to top. The only worse rated albums are some of the much loved Graveyard Classics albums lol.

Fr. People talk so much crap about Chris, which his voice certainly is an acquired taste, but I think this song sounds pretty promising
people need to remember without chris that guy wouldve never even drawn an album cover. He was and is the only reason CC went anywhere
To be honest, quitting weed might have helped him in the long run. This isn't bad, sort of like Crypt of the Devil meets Torment. It's good to see you're not hating for the sake of it and giving credit where it's due.

I remember when Butchered at Birth came out, Barnes' vocals were the pinnacle of death metal to me. The first SFU album was killer imo, and then it got progressively worse and now it's just sad.

It's wild how Chris Barnes went from being one of the most respected vocalists in Death Metal to becoming the generes worst.
As a fan of SFU that followed them for a while, I'm really happy with this song compared to the last 2 albums.
Honestly, I kinda feel bad for Chris Barnes. Because I do feel that he does care and is passionate for Six Feet Under, but his vocals are terrible now (though I think this song is ok).
Songs a 0 out of 10 for neglecting EEEEEEE.
But seriously this is the most average death metal song that ever averaged. Aside from the vocals which are…something to behold.

I always liked Six Feet Under. Haunted and Maximum Violence being my favorite. The new song isn't too bad actually, I agree with your assessment.
Haunted is a legitimately solid album. Not sure why anyone would despise it honestly

when this song appeared on my feed this morning i said i wouldn't listen to it, and go in blind come may. well then i see your beautiful thumbnail, and i said.. yup. i shall experience this now. it didn't sound to bad, and a lot better than the last record. i've always been a fan of the older six feet under stuff up through Commandment. after that they just went downhill for me. as for the art yes it does look like C C art as old chris went to vincent locke to get him to do the art. plus i didn't know that jack owens after he left deicide he joined up with six feet under in 2017. so now that makes 3 big death metal bands i like whom old chrome dome jack as done guitar duties for. yes i'd love a S F U album ranking. i swear they arent terrible till the 2012/2013 albums. of course many will say after 2001 they turned to waste, but i have a super soft spot for bringer of blood and 13.
Glad you enjoy them mate. I just went through their discography recently and I wasn’t big on them, but glad you seem to like their albums. For me my favorites were 13, Commandment, Undead, and Unborn.

I still think it sounds like shit. I think Six Feet Under would be a billion times better if the vocalist wasnt Chris Barnes and this song did absolutely nothing to change that take of mine. Like imagine if Six Feet Under was fronted by the singer of Deicide or something. I think that would make the music sound a billion times better

Six feet under with any other vocalist would make the band listenable. Even if it was Lil' Wayne it would still be an improvement

In my opinion, if SFU are to ever recover a fraction of the respect they once had, then they absolutely have to stick to these fast thrashier type of tracks. Chris doesnt sound... as bad... on these types of songs. Just give him quick bursts for vocal patterns, and they hold up enough to service the song.

The only time I’ve found this band tolerable was when Rob Arnold from Chimaira stepped in on leads.
This is a solid 6 or 7, which in their discography would put it near perfection tier. It’s nothing special, but it doesn’t leave me with something awful stuck in my head 😂

Someone made a post about this on a death metal group on FB and they were like, "Hey, Barnes sounds pretty good!" The following comments were hilariously accurate: "Good, when compared to sh*t" and "Yes, if this was a band of teenagers releasing their first demo and Chris was the vocalist, I would say it's pretty good."
Reading the comments was more entertaining than listening to the song. I will say, the groove is decent, but Barnes destroys it as per his MO.

Gotta love how the lyrics are mixed way under everything so you can’t really hear them.
The vocals are sorta like when he did the torture killer thing . I liked that sound . I hope the quitting weed and alcohol does well for him. Getting sucked into the hatters world was not a great time for him. All the best . I give credit for him keeping at it .
As long as it’s better than the last album I’ll be looking forward to this release! Everything prior to the last album was enjoyable, the last album needs to be scrapped and re-recorded it never should have been released. I’m glad the band took notice and improved let’s hope the new album slays! 🤘
I´m 41 and I hated this band until age 37 or so. Now I love them and their different approach to death metal. Yes, do a tier list please!

They did ..the whole album was done by file sharing . Jack wrote all the music and most of the lyrics and demoed them to Chris to sing over . Chris did his vocals in Colorado and the rest of the band in another part of the states

Look, I don't know why they throw hate at the song, I know the band would be better without Chris Barnes and a lot of their albums suck because they're bad, but please people, we have to give it a chance, I know the band disappoints, but it does the best he can to please our murderous appetite with his music, look not all death metal bands achieved great fame like the bands cannibal corpse, morbid angel, deicide, vital remains. Damn I was really hoping they'd double down on the mix from nightmares of the decomposed. It was objectively awful but had a charm to it that didn't sound like every other band.

Also, I looked on X aka Twitter and Jack Owen (one of the guitarist of the band) and Chris shit talked about your video lol, so you get a gold star.
Still, it just got from terrible to meh, which not gonna lie, it's ok, upgrades are needed, but yeah, Chris still has an kinda terrible vocal, but it's meh, which as I said, upgrades are good, and I quite enjoy Chris is quitting weed finally.
My personal opinion, after listening to the song but before watching the video:
+not as bad as their last album
+no EEEEEEEEEE
-still overall bad
-MID riffs
-boring ahh solo
-vocals still suck
-stupid lyrics
-the vocals are out of tempo which annoys me a lot

In my opinion, the know nothing ingrate track is decent, as in a 4 out of 10, because barnes voice only sounded good when he started singing in the first verse, literally only just a few seconds, everything else is fine, it's his vocals that lost it sparks in just a moment. But at least he wasn't doing the eeeeeeee sound lol
