Opening riff on Serpents of the Light will forever give me goosebumps.
The debut is insanely catchy, and Legion is a mindbendingly ambitious follow-up. Admittedly, I haven’t really listened to that much past Once Upon the Cross for whatever reason, but they were definitely throwing haymakers to start their career.
12: In Torment In Hell
11: Scars Of The Crucifix
10: Inseneratehymn
9: To Hell With God
8: Till Death Do Us Part
7: The Stench Of Redemption
6: Serpents Of The Light
5: Overtures Of Blasphemy
4: In The Minds Of Evil
3: Once Upon The Cross
2: Legion
1: Deicide
Can’t wait for the new album!
I agree a lot with this ranking
some point, i really agree with this rank. Because i love Overtures of Blasphemy. For me... it was better than In the minds of evil
First four albums are classics and I regularly return to them. Especially self titled and serpents.
THE STENCH OF REDEMPTION RULES!!!!! I have it on vinyl and cd. Love it!! Legendary
Agreed! Santolla brought them back and made them more interesting.
Deicide is one of most iconic bands of 90's American death metal alongside Death, Obituary, Morbid Angel, and Cannibal Corpse. They've got a fast and blasphemous style of death metal and I find their first four albums to be untouchable but there are some great and good albums to come out after Serpents of the Light and I'll definitely give Banished by Sin a listen. Here would be my ranking:
S - Self-titled, Legion, Once Upon the Cross
A+ - Serpents of the Light
A - The Stench of Redemption, To Hell with God, In the Minds of Evil
B - Scars of the Crucifix, Overtures of Blasphemy
C - Insineratehymn, Till Death Do Us Part
D - In Torment in Hell
Perfection: Once Upon the Cross, Legion, Deicide
Fantastic: The Stench of Redemption, Banished by Sin
Amazing: To Hell With God, Scars of the Crucifix
Great: In The Minds of Evil, Serpents of the Light
Good: Overtures of Blasphemy, Till Death Do Us Part
OK: Insineratehymn, In Torment in Hell
Legion is great on paper, but I do feel like I pretty much never put it on. S/T and OUAC are my top.
I always thought of Deicide as a better live band than an album band. The first two albums fairly represent the sound of the band live, and I enjoy listening to them. There are good songs sprinkled through the remainder of the catalog, but I mostly prefer the live cuts over the album versions when it comes to Deicide's later output.
Hahahahaha 35 years of killing God, love that! Got a permanent "minor" scar from a moshpit during the serpents of the light tour. That show is actually on UA-cam. Type in Deicide 1998 Halloween in Hallandale Florida, they got all the spikes on, CLASSIC
I greatly appreciate how all their albums are in Eb Standard tuning. Unlike all their other peers of that time, they did NOT go to 7-string guitars or tune way down to B or lower. They've stuck to Eb and no lower. Same tuning as Van Halen and a gazillion Hair Metal bands, and yet they just sound heavy as hell.
Legion
Deicide
The Stench Of Redemption
10/10 albums. The rest are just good.
Stench is my favorite. The solo-ing of Ralph (rip) is so good. Love the Desecration song.
I really enjoy sever the tongue, it’s actually what made me think I should start getting into Deicide, although I had heard the song in the minds of evil before and thought it ripped hard. Probably just new album hype gave me the push to finally start looking into their discog
Pleased you got Legion bang up there. I was about 14 when I got into Deicide - I used to wear my band shirt to school underneath my white shirt. I remember teachers did not approve 🤘🤘
1. Once Upon the Cross
2. Deicide
3. To Hell With God
4. Legion
5. The Stench Of Redemption
6. Serpents of the Night
7. In the Minds of Evil
8. Scars of the Crucifix
9. Overtures of Blasphemy
10. In Torment In Hell
11. Insenerateyhm
12. Til Death Do Us Part
THWG ABOVE LEGION? XDDDDD
i actually got Deicide nostalgia after hearing Sever The Tongue and bought Serpents of Light and Till Death shirts. Great video as always.
@mncphotography I just bought a Serpents shirt too! I also bought the new album on CD.
"Sounds like a really hard Dark Souls boss" Rofl😂 Deicide has quite a rocky discography, the first album is still my fave followed by Legion and Once Upon the Cross.. Nostalgic fucker i am
I never got why people seem to dislike Insineratehym. I think it's an awesome album
@digbick6881 I love that album. I have the sixes on my arm in red.
Stench of Redemption is absolute banger! 💥
Watching this wearing my Deicide-shirt and a 32 year old Deicide-tattoo on my arm 😅 The debut are on my «ten favourite albums»-list (with classics from Beatles, Camel, David Sylvian, Zappa, Steely Dan +++). The two new songs are surprisingly good, btw.
Deicide is one of those bands without any bad albums. They're so talented in my opinion, there is always some riffs or solos to geek out about.
For me is
Overture of Blaphemies
Serpents of the Light
Deicide
Once Upon The Cross
Insineratehymn
Amazing band. Good video
When I was getting into death metal in 2006
Torment in hell was my first deicide album
And I loved it start to finish.
Homage for Satan was one of the first Death metal songs i ever heard and is still one of my favorites.
Same with the solo's on that song.
met a cat down the road in 93' who had beer and the tape Legion, been best buds ever since
Six feet under ranking?
You know it's coming...
Hi dude you like ascension?
Testament... you should do Testament albums.
In The Minds Of Evil is a personal favorite I agree with all your ranking tho, great video.
Glen Benton is something else. I mean who burns an upside cross on their forehead? A person who is truly dedicated to the destruction of mankind, and the allegience to Satan's work to do the same. I truly prefer the bands that actually represent what they are saying, like this band and Morbid Angel.
I mean I defy you to listen to their first album and not feel that infernal Ancient Gods of the Necronomicon energy take a hold of you as you listen... Moving to it you feeling your eyes turning black and your configuration of flesh convulsing to become one with the BEAST! You can literally feel that black goo entering every cavity of your being taking you over to smash some shit up, do some black magick, paint your room black and turn it into a ritual chamber for The Ancient Ones, and indulge in a the treasures of Hell! You feel that superiority of Emperors inside you and the need to take fucking control of shit!
He is attention seeking b*tch like the ones who cut themselves in their daddy problems. Didnt he even try to reason that his AI art cover was made to piss people off? lol people didnt like the shitty generic cover and now hes telling everyone that he made it to be like somekind of an act of defiance? I do like the early Deicide but what a joke this band has been for 15+ years
If this a troll, then good job, dude!
@@filipdzero8739 Hail Satan you funny little person! 😛
@vovindequasahi- Relax bro! you'll live longer!!!!
The first 3 are perfection to me. Serpents was great. All the rest, never peaked my interest. I lost track of them after Serpents. Untill now!!! From the snippets from what i’ve heard from the new album, i think they finally sound again like in their heyday. At the first listen, i even thought the Hoffman brothers were back! It really sounds like, and the riffing sounds so much similar to their chopping, riffing sound!
Blame it on God goes so fuckin hard. Favorite track.
For me, 4 first albums are top 4 in no particular order. Everything else I never really paid much attention to, expect "In the minds of evil" which was pretty damn good
Once Upon the Cross is the best Deicide album.
That's my favorite album of theirs
Eaaaaaasily
Not my favourite but the Artwork is 15/10.
Legion is better.
@@zacharyseibert6788 I disagree. I personally find Legion to be the weakest of the 90s Deicide albums. Still great though.
I just liked this video and noticed that now it has 666 total likes!😈😈😈
Metal as fck🤘🏻🔥🤘🏻
I need to journey back through Deicide's catalog. I couldn't stand anything after The Stench of Redemption, but there must be something wrong with my ears since their later output seems decent?
Wow I'm actually excited to hear the new album now. I like the new singles so to hear that there are better songs on the album than those is awesome.
It's great. I think it's up there with their best albums.
I remember reading their interviews back in the "Scars..." era that the "Insineratehymn" and "In Torment in Hell" albums were admittedly phoned in by the band due to their souring relationship with Roadrunner. Roadrunner has signed them to a 7 album deal in the beginning, and by the time the last 2 album cycles had come around, Roadrunner had shifted direction to cashing in on the nu metal craze by that point, and had reportedly told the band that they owe them 2 more albums, but they weren't going to spend any money or resources promoting them. So in response, the band put zero effort into making them, and just sent in the most generic stuff they could pull out of their ass to get out of the contract and move on.
@davemoody9263 I think Insineratehymn is a pretty damn good album for them not even trying. I like the groovy style of it. Even though In Torment In Hell is their worst album, it's still not that bad, and has some good songs. I think those albums show that they are so good that they can't even be THAT bad, even when they aren't trying or are at their worst. In Torment In Hell isn't even close to as bad as Chris Barnes' recent albums with Six Feet Under. If Chris Barnes made that album it would have been even worse. It would have been called "In Torment In Heeee."
🖤🖤🖤
Other than their first two albums, Scars and Til Death are my favorite from them.
Thought I was the only one!
My S Tier is the same as yours. Deicide, Legion and Stench for sure!
First 2 Deicide albums Deicide and Legion are P tier for me. Legion is my favorite Deicide album. The band were at their best with the Hoffmans imo.
I am love almost every Deicide album. But Legion (1992) was my favorite.
Although Once upon the Cross is their best,,, Legion has this scary, super dry mix thats just intense !
I can honestly agree with the list. Deicide never put out completely terrible records, they just stepped on their own feet a few times.
@martingraf1338 At least they never stepped on their own throat, like Chris Barnes. lol.
Gran banda Deicide, saludos legión del Metal 🤟🏻
S/t debut is the in only Deicide you need.
The Stench of Redemption is my favourite Deicide album.
I mostly agree. First four belong in the top two tiers for me. Otherwise, pretty much dead on as far as I'm concerned. I like the new one quite a bit, but it needs a few more spins. Bordering on great at the very least. Not disappointed at all.
First 3 albums are top tier. Though I think Legion is overrated. The other stuff has never been able to catch my attention. And I absolutely do not understand what everyone else is hearing on the new material. But definitely an important band in the genre. Garza's pod with Glenn is a good watch/listen for anyone interested.
Top 6
1. Deicide
2. Legion
3. Once Upon the Cross
4. The Stench of Redemption
5. Serpents of the Light
6. Scars of the Crucifix
bro why is it 720?
Also I kid you not when I was teenager or young adult I used to dry my hair windmilling to the stench of redemption album after washing my hair.
lmao you rating a whole album but blacking out and forgetting about it.
Great hurt for the latest tho...
Great band Deicide 🤟🏻
My personal favorite Deicide album is To Hell With God, 2nd favorite is Scars of the Crucifix and my 3rd favorite is definitely Once Upon The Cross. A lot of people dislike In Torment In Hell but I didn't think it was that bad. Definitely the most forgettable record is Overtures of Blasphemy and I think Till Death Do Us Fart is thee worst Deicide record. The first 2 albums for me are great but not their best in my opinion. Based on the 2 singles I've heard so far, Banished By Sin sounds similar to Scars of the Crucifix. I'm a huge fan and look forward to the full new record.
teepaita teepaita t-paita!!!deat by dawn!hals from finland!!!
To each their own, some of the lesser rated albums here like Overtures of Blasphemy is actually one of my all time favorite albums period
@Stratking01 I actually really like Insineratehymn and have a tattoo of the cover, only the sixes are red. I love Banished By Sin and think it is up there with their best albums.
Yall might also dig the new ones from ENGULFED and NECROT
Already listened. More on Necrot soon.
Anybody out there supporting Ukraine should check out the new ILEX record. Fun deth from those poor folks over there
Insineratehymn is the one I listen to the most. It's catchy, underrated.
Interesting
There's a very subtle groove metal tone on 'Insineratehymn' (like the subtle black metal vibe on 'Serpents...') that I like, quite a bludgeoning album for them. You get the sense they were very bored with the death metal scene and wanted to try and cross over a bit. Not awesome, but pretty good, definitely underrated.
I get why most people rate the first 2, but they started writing super catchy songs from 'Once Upon the Cross' and that's what made them great. They were (Asheim aside) quite a sloppy band which is why I enjoy their idiosyncratic attempt at being technical ('Legion')... I love it, but they weren't exactly Morbid Angel when it came to musicianship...
@@M.H691 Asheim was the mastermind behind the band. Apparently he wrote most of the riffs in the first albums too, plus he's a beast, same league as Sandoval.
My favorite track on Insineratehymn is “Apocalyptic Fear”. Love this track!
Wasn't Legion the supposed re-recorded album?
I agree with most of this, except only the first 2 are at the top for me.
❤ deicide
Do you plan on doing an Accept tier list?
Second this, but that would be a bumpy road lol
I don't have enough heavy metal fans in the audience to warrant it unfortunately.
I would be down for Accept tier list or Hypocrisy
Came here prepared to argue… can’t…. So now what? 😂😂
“Did we just become best friends?”
@@MetalTrenches Yep!!
Serpents of the Light is underrated
Once upon the cross my favoutite.
Always loved how fast and crunchy these guys can get with their riffs
1.) Once Upon the Cross (1995) - 9.5/10
2.) Legion (1992) - 8/10
3.) Stench of Redemption (2006) - 7/10
4.) In the Minds of Evil (2013) - 7/10
5.) Overtures of Blasphemy (2018) - 7/10
6.) Serpents of the Light (1997) - 7/10
7.) Scars of the Crucifix (2004) - 5/10
8.) Til Death Do Us Part (2008) - 5/10
9.) Deicide (1990) - 4/10
10.) Insineratehymm (2000) - 4/10
11.) To Hell With God (2011) - 4/10
12.) In Torment In Hell (2001) - 3/10
Hang the bitch, on the cross! \o/
I appreciate your reviews but I'd place the new one higher up. It's a banger for sure.
You should react to New Unreleased Linkin Park Song Qwerty!!
It's like that U.S. prison camp that used Enter Sandman and Hells Bells to induce the sleep-deprivation... lowkey I'd be vibing
Thanks for the insights.
"The Cobra"
I find all post The Stench of Redemption Deicide albums to be quite mid (outside of Overtures, maybe it because it was my first Deicide album but I always had a bit of admiration for it) and some stuff between Once Upon a Cross and Stench too, can't say new album looks any interesting from singles I heard, but be glad if it's better than its horrendous album art and pedestrian singles suggest
My favorite one is To Hell With God. Got me into them, and Empowered by Blasphemy always gets me headbanging
What do you mean new album came out and I didn't know?
Friday
@@MetalTrenches these are some awesome news
MINDS OF EVIL, is my favorite album by them, but STENCH OF REDEMPTION is their best.
In Torment In Hell is actually my favorite Deicide album. The vocals are so gutteral and the instrumentals are groovy
Serpents of the light is their best
First 3 records are God tier lol
Stench is EASY top tier, cant compare it to the debut cuz its basically apples and oranges but they are side by side at the top.
"Stark and flat", huh? You talking about the production of Banished By Sin or its AI generated cover art?
Heyooooo!
Insanely brutal band, but I believe they're past it now
I'm sad to say that, but i agree
Deicide is the goat of Death Metal 🐐🐐🐐
I think Glen Benton sounds best in the first Decide album.
Pananarama is the best Deicide album
They just come across as try hard edge lords. Kind of like later slayer.
I'm convinced anyone who doesn't like this album is just miserable and hates enjoying things. 🤷
I think it's a solid album other than thr AI art bullshit
Jack Owen made deicide a million times better
WTF? Insineratehymn lower than In Torment In Hell? Nah brah. I know its your opinion but really? Sometimes i think its a nostalgic factor why certain albums are ranked higher with alot of people. Insineratehymn to me is under fantastic. The first 4 under perfection but i dont like the production of Once Upon the Cross. I also would put Scars of the Crucifix and The Stench of Redemption under fantastic. Everything after is just okay or good. Deicide like alot of bands like Cannibal Corpse suffer from too many albums that sound the same and not memorable as their classics unfortunately. It seems to be the thing with nearly everyone now. Oh well lol.
Im glad their music arrangement is better than the lyrics of Glen Benton. The same ole boring shit now for 34 years. Like does your vocabulary and meaning in life surpass your hatred for Christianity? Use your imagination just once Glen. Godspeed, Glen!! 😂😂😂
Just heard the new album it's ummm well awful. It barely sounds like Deicide, and the riffs are just so bland. I think they should have went with a different new guitarist. Sorry dudes..ugh. 3 listens nothing memorable.
This list is blasphemy!
Indeed 👹
Real metalheads don't do UA-cam videos on this stuff... Today's newbies you're not in the metal scene you'll be out of this in a few years period !
lol I can’t imagine being such a dork that you’re MAD about someone bringing more people into the fold. “Real Metalheads”… please 😂 You sound like a petulant child who doesn’t want to share his action figures. Anyone who calls themselves a “REAL Metalhead” deserves their self-imposed isolation. Have fun in the corner while the rest of us enjoy the party…
The Stench Of Redemption, Till Death Do Us Apart, Legion is the best Deicide albums.
I actually like In Torment In Hell more than the band's latest albums. It's the first Deicide album I got on CD and still have it. Love it alongside with The Stench Of Redemption.
Have you heard Deicide Des Patates?
My 2 cents:
1. Once Upon The Cross 9,5/10
2. Legion 9,5/10
3. Deicide 9/10
4. Overtures Of Blasphemy 8,5/10
5. The Stench Of Redemption 8,5/10
6. Serpents Of The Light 7,5/10
7. In The Minds Of Evil 7,5/10
8. In Torment In Hell 6,5/10
9. Insineratehymn 6/10
10. To Hell With God 5/10
11. Till Death Do Us Part 4/10
12. Scars of the Crucifix 3/10
I'm starting to think Glen Benton has some sort of beef with god.
