After 10 years of constant using a fountain pens, I see a big capacity of them as the biggest flaw. You always want them to be filled at max, and you’re always eager to try new ink, after you did it…
I invested on a fountain pen as an English College student since i have burned through ballpoint pens really quickly. The longest a pen survived in my essay writing sessions is 2 weeks the shortest was 2 days. I found that it would be expensive if i continue buying pens that wont last me very long.
It has it been three years since I have started using fountain pens in earnest. This is not to say ballpoint or rollerball pens are bad, having 00s of them.
Well, it depends on the definition of "a typical fountain pen". I journal with a Kaweco Sport with converter and a BB nib. I am lucky if I get to 8 B6 pages before it runs out. That would be about 2 or 3 A4/Letter Size pages. On the other hand, I have a Majohn C1 pen, with an F nib, and i have not run out ov ink since I filled it up when I bought it, so maybe it might get to 100 pages. I would not consider the C1 a typical fountain pen, but maybe the Kaweco I would.
Thank you Brian for making this video! As a newbie I have close to almost 40 bottles of ink now so that means according to your video I can write for about 40 years…😊lol! But I share my ink with my pen friends…so I need more ink!!!😅 Always excited to watch one of your videos either from the beginning of your channel to the present with Pencasts not only do I learn a lot but I get a great laugh also. Keep up the great work! Happy New Year!
Omg you are spot on! I’m 52 and just picked up a fountain pen a couple of months ago for the first time. It’s so much easier than a ball point. My handwriting is so much better than it was. I have to stop myself from getting too much of a grip on my fountain pen. It’s effortless compared to the 40 something years I’ve been using a ball point pen. The schools should go back to using them.
I’ve been a fountain pen user for decades and what Mr. Goulet says is absolutely accurate.
A bottle of ink lasts a year? How about if you also own 100+ bottles of ink. Asking for a friend.
Not to mention they're a lot more stylish than a bic 🤩
Stumbled across this and now I want a fountain pen.

The art of writing is being lost. There are few things uniquely personal as your words from your own hand and what better way to write them!
I blow through my 50ml bottles of waterman ink in about 3 months
Literally shows ink stained fingers on thumbnail. I love FPs to death, but I can't stand the blotched hands
I am a fountain pen fanatic . So much so I always carry a ball point Bic. In case someone needs to barrow a pen. Be on guard. 😂
I end up writing random words just for the sake of writing. Just feels nice 🤣
My grandmother introduced me to fountain pens by gifting me a lovely Montblanc for my 18th birthday

Shout out the diplomat nexus in the thumbnail. It is such a durable eyedropper for clutzes like me who drop their pens constantly.
extremely well summarized!

Great points! But can I just ask, what is the beautiful blue pen that appears right as you say "less work for the muscles"? I'm intrigued!

I have been using fountain pens for over 50 years at this point, and have no plans to quit any time soon.
