Maybe you can try to say something similar.
I've just submitted a refund request on Steam. I'm curious to see what they'll do - I bought the game two years ago, but since half of the game essentially doesn't work, I don't see any point in keeping it in my library. I'd happily use that money to buy something else instead.
Rockstar - the company that released a port of the mobile version port of 20+ years old games, that ran like crap and was buggy af. But with a AAA price tag, because why not!?
There's a simple solution: Valve controls game distribution and has the power to incentivize developers to support SteamOS. They could do this in several ways-offering financial incentives or reduced platform fees for developers who optimize their games for SteamOS, promoting SteamOS-compatible titles more prominently on the storefront, or providing dedicated support and tools to make porting easier. Valve needs to do more to encourage SteamOS support, quite simply making games that go out of their way to not support SteamOS second class games will work.
I don't think Rockstar is going to give a fuck about more prominently featuring GTA5, and there's no support needed. BattlEye does support Linux, and it only takes one email to turn it on. Rockstar deliberately chose to not do that and fuck over Linux users. It doesn't matter if they officially support Linux or not, they made a deliberate choice to fuck over Linux users by arbitrarily disabling Linux support.
They did it because the PC version of GTAO is rampant with hackers. I long stopped playing it because Rockstar seemingly refused to give PC players the free next Gen update released on PS5 and XSX and have no reason for it. And that release came out almost 2 years ago. There's a rumor with this anti cheat that content will be coming soon but for me it's too little too late
@@professorchaos5689You're right but the next gen update wasn't a free update though. We had to re-buy the next gen version as a separate game on Xbox Series / PS5, so I'm a bit worried that they may try to do the same for the PC version if expanded & enhanced is added.
@@GreenLeefMusic I thought it was free if you already had the game but that was so long ago and I don't have a current Gen console. Regardless of how they priced it, Rockstar has almost always given PC players the shaft.
I just stopped buying these AAA companies games, No to ea, no to rockstar, no to ubisoft. Heck, am literally playing cracked RDR2 ,even though I have bought it, just because to bypass its lazy ass launcher and its online requirement.
The enhance clip hasn't had its limelight yet. Because it's going to happen that an "enhanced" photo will be used as proof in court by someone who doesn't realize that their proof was made up by ai. It works for games because they're relatively predictable and getting details wrong isn't all that impactful.
Because honestly they're one of the few publishers who come out with mostly finished games. And they're a lot more enjoyable than most. GTA6 will probably be the most sold game of all time
Because they make really good games that are complete. They're honestly one of the few publishers that you probably shouldn't hate. That doesn't mean they don't do some dumb things.
That's a good way to get banned from Steam. Charge backs are a hostile act, I'd never do it to a company I intended to keep using. If you charge-back my company, you get black listed for all time.
I'm just hoping Valve starts issuing refunds to effected players. They're not doing it through the normal channel, but we can always ask nicely through just contacting them and explaining that R* has taken a game away from us.
BattlEye works they just need to use the correct version for proton Valve has worked with BattlEye to ensure it works with proton, Rocksteady have done this on purpose as they put out a FAQ with steps on how to bypass Battleye for offline story mode play at the same time as the patch so they knew what they was doing.... I don't get why publishers hate Linux.
That would be crap anyway. Most PC users honestly will prob stick to their ROG Ally or Steam Deck "Steam Deck 2 poss by then". There is almost no reason to go to PS anymore from a PC users' perspective unless you're that desperate to play an exclusive right away. It's going to make it's way to PC anyway, prob at a discount. They are clearly treating PC users like lower class citizens, so I should treat them like a lower class developer.... Microsoft has been talking of removing these Kernal-Level Anti Cheat systems after what happend with Cloudstrike anyway.
Ps is crap though, you could only play crappy console games on a closed system. Handheld pc is the future for gaming, not Sony or Microsoft or nintendo.
@travisv6408 I honestly wonder if even the next Xbox/Microsoft is going to be a hybrid system like the Steam Deck. They definitely have been interested in the concept, and I can't blame them. Sounds like a good deal getting an Xbox Experience including games, but you're able to switch over to Windows with a menu press and, like the Steam Deck, be able to use other PC library games from the likes of GOG, Epic, Amazon as well. Will they do it, idk. Honestly, Xbox needs something, or I don't see them making consoles much longer.
For upscaling, I'm not too worried about devs using it as a clutch as it only makes your framerate go up. As for frame generation, save that for movies. It increases your framerate but at a cost to latency. It's basically useless for videogames unless your base framerate is already at least 60 FPS
It's not configured for linux because the majority of hackers use linux. Unfortunately, that happens to be the OS framework steamdeck uses. It's not that they're trying to alienate players they just want to alienate hackers.
@@NerdNest Yes. But there will always be this comment. Also on the Stop Killing Games campaign, you can read everywhere it is mentioned a comment about how piracy is the solution, and completely missing the point.
i was super Mad about the GTA V situation, It was part of my morning coffee routine, I love the fact I could race gta v online natively on the deck from my couch before getting ready for work almost everyday... the story mode just doesn't hit the same :/
The amount of people who bought GTA V, to play on Steam Deck, recently enough to be in within refund window is miniscule. This is not a case we can win, and it's a lost cause. I'm just glad story mode is safe. GTA Online ran terribly on Steam Deck anyways, like sub 25 fps. When it comes to decisions like using BattleEye, I bet there's a lot of politics involved in the decision. Unfortunately seems like the number of Steam Deck players is nowhere near enough to override other decision makers.
It's ran at 50fps online in steam deck so don't know what you done but lol and no it isn't a fight not worth fighting if we let the companies do this boycot them simple
Online ran great on my deck, I have over 200 hours on it and never even touched story mode. Never felt the need to replay play it when I bought it for my steam deck although it looks like I’ll have a reason to now though
Its not affecting just steam deck, but all Linux OS. This affects millions of players. I could not play online on my desktop PC today, and that is my main.
@@travisv6408 Linux was such a tiny percentage of Steam players before the Steam Deck arrived. Before Valve creating Proton and showed it off with the Steam Deck, it was generally accepted that you don't use Linux to game. When we look at the number of Linux players in the Steam surveys, an overwhelming majority of those are Steam Deck users. So that's why I say Steam Deck users instead of Linux users. Because if they can't care about Steam Deck users, they sure as hell don't care about Linux users in general.
Honestly I don't think that any of the steam deck users care about gta online, singlplayer is still available and it's miles ahead in popularity - you will see that gta 5 will remain in the top 12...
The GTA V situation is just another reason pushing me to go FULL Windows 11 on the deck... Ive been giving myself almost every excuse not too cause I really like Steam OS; but more and more of the games I play are becoming unsupported and it sucks
I had bought GTA5 again on a steep discount a few days before the announcement of them adding battle eye to play on my new steam deck. I asked for a refund. Absolutely ridiculous move by Rockstar.
I’m not sure if this information is accessible or not but it would be really cool when you compare top steam games from this month to last month, you could also compare this month to what it was this month last year.
There were people online destroying it with cheats and mod menus but that’s a pc issue, they better be fixing the whole online if not, the move was pointless
There's a pretty obvious reason to have less players on gta online. GTA VI is coming. They're testing anti-cheat. It seems too early, but of course they want to move those players to the new GTA. The most profitable game of all time, choosing to not make a simple update, says it all about paying more for less.
I would ask the opposite… Why would valve make a handheld that can't play main titles such as call of duty? I would absolutely love to own a steam deck… But I don't, Because of this.
Honestly, I had a lot of fun with GTA V Online before I bought my PC. Just the fact that I couldn't get my data over from Xbox to PC pissed me off enough to not play the game at all anymore. There are times where I miss it dearly but, the fact that they want me to completely start over online and buy everything I had since the game came out is ridiculous and not worth the time and money. I downloaded it a few months ago on steam deck just to play story mode and was having fun with it but, needed the space for other games so got rid of it and was thinking about trying again. I really hope this new anti-cheat works since those servers are terrible and littered with cheaters but, I think I will no longer buy the new one whenever it comes out.
Can work, but R* has drawn their line. They want online cash cards from banned and rejoining hackers. And if they go console exclusive for GTA6, they'll stick with cash cards and hopefully slow down hackers.
Hacking is a huge problem with GTA online, and has been forever on PC. I didn't think they would ever do anything about it. I agree that is is dumb that they don't call battle eye and get it to work with the deck.
I’ve never understood this type of thinking. GTA V still makes a ton of money so why cast out steam deck users with how much the platform continues to grow.
Some of the other handhelds outside of the ROG Ally/AllyX and the Legion go use 7840U and now 8840U based chips such as the GDP Win Max 2 2024. 7840/8840U based chips are similar to the Z1 Extreme in some cases. Minus the MSI Claw which uses Intel.
My understanding and please correct me if I'm wrong is , that handheld gaming is a huge sink hole in most companies budgets and when they have made the money that was allocated success they pull the proverbial plug. Valve has issues with Rockstar mainly because Rockstar won't allocate time and money to a game that has long since paid for itself. Look at it from Rockstars point of view please. To write and maintain code maybe simple to do but the man hours and server time to achieve it could come in at a staggering $42000 and with the next generation game coming , well do the math as that is probably why they pulled the plug .......JM
That might be the case if, ya know they hadn’t spend time and money ADDING anticheat to an old game. anti cheat that also requires NO CODE CHANGES to function on steam OS. It required zero effort from them. One phone call to Battleye was all it took. This decision was political.
GTA5 ran just fine on my Linux machine before update. They seem to be slowly shutting down GTA5 for 6, imho. They dont want to compete with themselves. Betting GTA6 will be way more greedy
Thanks! I underexposed this shot the first time, so I had to reshoot the whole thing, I was quite annoyed by that so your comment made me happy I did it.

Bill, quick question. What 4TB SSD did you put in your Ally X? And did you install a heatsink on it? I’m looking to upgrade my SSD in the X to a 4TB too, but unsure about the temps and if a heatsink would be needed or not. How’s your X been running since you upgraded the drive in it?
I didn't put a heat sink on mine, because I didn't think of that when I ordered it. I don't remember which one I got, but if you go to my Ally X videos I think I linked it there.
@@NerdNest I think I found the Amazon link on your video, it’s the Silicon Power US75 4TB yeah? I assume it’s been running fine in your Ally X without a heatsink? Odds are, Sony will announce a handheld after all, won't support it like the Vita, Xperia Play and PSP Go, and people will eat it up anyway because Sony can do no wrong. And Valve will can the Steam Deck sequel since the interest in it would be waning. Linux support will drop again, Windows will make people mad enough to leave anything remotely competitive with the PS4 Pro Pro Pro they've released lately, and Then they'll be eating good while the gaming hobby as a whole becomes a niche exclusively for the rich or bad with money. Is this a stretch? I'd be inclined to say yes if it didn't seem like something Sony would do, but I reckon it's exactly the case.
Lmao, how the hell would anything Sony does, hurt the SteamDeck/Valve? PC gaming is bigger than playstation. People aren't going to abandon PC gaming to go play on Playstation because of anything Sony does. Once you're in the PC gaming ecosystem, you rarely leave. Life is too good over here. This hot take kind of ignores the entire indie games industry, which is more successful than most AAA studios nowadays. If you watched the video, you would have noticed that most of the games on the Steam Deck top ten lists, were indies.
But it would fail because humans have handheld PCs now that are more powerful and more open for users. I would never buy another nintendo, Sony or Microsoft game system. They are jokes!
There are plenty of games now that when looking back, I would never have bought them to play at my pc. On the other hand there are a bunch more i bought to specifically play on my deck. Idk what RS is thinking, but so be it. GTAV is cheeks on steamdeck anyways.
My best bet for the games that wont be working for the steam deck anymore would be Diablo IV (cuz its blizzard) and GTA V Edit: alright well I was so sure about Diablo but hey i got the GTA V right xD
The bad news is you can't play GTA 5. The good news is you can play GTA 5. It's an easy answer that isn't elaborate well in this video. *Ghost of Tsushima enters room* That game has the same label as GTA 5 - you can play the single player mode just fine, online though is a no go now. So have fun playing GTA 5 on Steamdeck just fine, just don't bother with GTA (5) ONLINE.
@NerdNest my comment was more for clarification before people run for the refund request button. A portion in your video does state it a little bit that it is the online part of the game but you kinda go heavy on that the game doesn't work for Steamdeck owners - it does play just fine though, just not the online stuff. Just putting it out there if people read the comments as a clarification.
No GTA online? .... And nothing of value was lost. Online was always terrible and online killed story expansions and story content updates. Ask yourself why all of the RDR2 online content was never trasfered to story mode? Give us your money thats why.
I won't ever buy a game that has an "anti-cheat" function like this. All Anti-Cheat efforts only need to run on Server-Side. They should never touch my device. If you don't want people cheating design your game better to help make the server-side more cheat catching more effective... There should never be anti-cheat on any single player game. If someone cares about single player cheating, they have some issues they need to resolve with a Medical Professional.
HAHA!!! BOOM! - That is SOO STUPID OF THEM!!!! You KNOW GTA6 will NOT run on the SteamDeck and probably not a SteamDeck 2 if one is released before it comes out "next autum" (we ALL KNOW it won't come until Summer 2026) So now people will have to EMULATE to play any GTA on the Deck.... I put in a support ticket with Valve and requested a refund. Valve being as good as they are no questions asked and refunded me. Technically added the $ to my steam wallet which is good enough for me.
weird, i got denied
might see if i can try again
@@snowthearcticfox1 my conditions were I had 8.5 hours played all story with the exception of online maybe 40 mins. I've had it for maybe 4 weeks. I told them that I just bought the game a few weeks ago and I was trying to finish the sorry first then I was going to play the online mode and they refunded the game to my steam wallet. Maybe you can try to say something similar.
I liked GTA on steam when they didnt have their Rockstar launcher, cause you know, it sucks...
I've just submitted a refund request on Steam. I'm curious to see what they'll do - I bought the game two years ago, but since half of the game essentially doesn't work, I don't see any point in keeping it in my library. I'd happily use that money to buy something else instead.
reply made to get an update
Linux users as a whole need to garner more (Linux Distro)OS support.
The market share increase is a good first step, but that's still not enough.
Rockstar obviously did it to gauge the backlash if they did it with their next GTA product prior to launch.
I think there is a less than zero chance GTA6 runs well on a Deck anyway, I hope I'm wrong,
@@NerdNest By the time it comes to PC, we'll already be on Steam Deck 2.
Rockstar living up to their name - they gotta be on hard drugs to be making decisions like these. :/
Grand theft Auto V... i genuinely hate rockstar with a passion... why does anyone buy their crap anymore?
Because honestly they're one of the few publishers who come out with mostly finished games. And they're a lot more enjoyable than most. GTA6 will probably be the most sold game of all time
Because they make really good games that are complete. They're honestly one of the few publishers that you probably shouldn't hate. That doesn't mean they don't do some dumb things.
They just want Valve to come to them
Don’t ask for a refund, do a chargeback. This hits companies that pull this shit much harder. Refunds hurt Valve more than Rockstar.
I'm giving R* one week to fix this. Of its not fixed by then, then I'm going to refund and halt future purchases from them.
mine got denied but ive heard some got it refunded
BattlEye works they just need to use the correct version for proton Valve has worked with BattlEye to ensure it works with proton, Rocksteady have done this on purpose as they put out a FAQ with steps on how to bypass Battleye for offline story mode play at the same time as the patch so they knew what they was doing.... I don't get why publishers hate Linux.
I suspect Rockstar blocked it so that people might have to purchase it on an upcoming handheld PS6 - no console experience for PC gamers
Nope. Sony bought marketing rights to GTA, not hardware exclusivity.
Space Marine 2 uses an anticheat and it works fine in steam deck
You can't say Pssr without saying the PiSSR resolution
They don't want my money, I don't need their products. There's literaly millions of games to play, new and old.
Rockstar. Great games, terrible idea's.
It's not configured for linux because the majority of hackers use linux. Unfortunately, that happens to be the OS framework steamdeck uses. It's not that they're trying to alienate players they just want to alienate hackers.
if the dev hates money piracy is an option
I'm pretty sure you can't play online with a pirated copy.
@@NerdNest me personally i dont pirate all my games got bought from steam but we are done with rockstar / EA/ ubisoft nonsense
@@NerdNestcorrect
@@NerdNest Yes. But there will always be this comment. Also on the Stop Killing Games campaign, you can read everywhere it is mentioned a comment about how piracy is the solution, and completely missing the point.
i was super Mad about the GTA V situation, It was part of my morning coffee routine, I love the fact I could race gta v online natively on the deck from my couch before getting ready for work almost everyday... the story mode just doesn't hit the same :/
EU didnt allow MS to remove security from the kernel yet had no problem allowing Apple to do so in OSX.
Valve should do is put a category to devs who guarantee deck support, beyond the "great on deck"
I was so bummed out when they did this, I have over 100 plus hours into GTA online and now it’s all gone
Worst thing is: this new Anticheat doesn't even work. Hackers already outsmarted it
Neural network upscaling is hallucination based on previous experience. Good for games, bad for Blade Runner case.
Rockstar :"We don't need Steam Deck players"
Steam Deck players: "We don't need Rockstar"
I’m not sure if this information is accessible or not but it would be really cool when you compare top steam games from this month to last month, you could also compare this month to what it was this month last year.
There were people online destroying it with cheats and mod menus but that’s a pc issue, they better be fixing the whole online if not, the move was pointless
There's a pretty obvious reason to have less players on gta online.
GTA VI is coming. They're testing anti-cheat. It seems too early, but of course they want to move those players to the new GTA.
The most profitable game of all time, choosing to not make a simple update, says it all about paying more for less.
A lot of game devs think they can't stop cheaters on Linux. That's basically it.
They’re planning to bring GTA+ to PC along with E&E, so they care a lot more about cheating than Steamdeck now
Middlesized publishers are the future. The AAAs are taking themselves out of the game and indies are often too weird and unpolished.
I would ask the opposite… Why would valve make a handheld that can't play main titles such as call of duty? I would absolutely love to own a steam deck… But I don't, Because of this.
those studios hate open source and want to force players onto windoze
Escape from tarkov, rainbow six siege, PUBG, none of those games work on Linux or steam deck because the devs haven't enabled BattleEye support.
Yes, but they did that from the beginning. GTAV added Battleye after NINE YEARS!!!
@@ahM3mon No the reason I post that is because he said in the video that those games worked on the steam deck and they do not work.
Can’t wait till they make gta6 multiplayer “online 2” and make everyone buy it again
i mean,….yeah?
I’ve never understood this type of thinking. GTA V still makes a ton of money so why cast out steam deck users with how much the platform continues to grow.
Some of the other handhelds outside of the ROG Ally/AllyX and the Legion go use 7840U and now 8840U based chips such as the GDP Win Max 2 2024. 7840/8840U based chips are similar to the Z1 Extreme in some cases. Minus the MSI Claw which uses Intel.
Damn Piracy is looking good.
To write and maintain code maybe simple to do but the man hours and server time to achieve it could come in at a staggering $42000 and with the next generation game coming , well do the math as that is probably why they pulled the plug
.......JM
That might be the case if, ya know they hadn’t spend time and money ADDING anticheat to an old game. anti cheat that also requires NO CODE CHANGES to function on steam OS. It required zero effort from them. One phone call to Battleye was all it took. This decision was political.
GTA5 ran just fine on my Linux machine before update. They seem to be slowly shutting down GTA5 for 6, imho. They dont want to compete with themselves. Betting GTA6 will be way more greedy
I bought GTAV in 2018 when it used to work on Linux , I guess no refund for me.
They definitely need to support Lennox
Ugh, it's too bad there's not an alternative handheld PC to the Steam Deck that doesn't constantly have to fight for game compatibility!
I smell corporate jealousy!
GTA story mode still works so it doesn’t bother me.
love what you do.. always appreciate the HQ visuals and content.
Thanks! I underexposed this shot the first time, so I had to reshoot the whole thing, I was quite annoyed by that so your comment made me happy I did it.
@@NerdNest Oh man.. been there. :)
Sweet!!! Another game to ignore and tell Rockstar to go F themselves. I barely even played GTAV. I wasn’t buying anyway since they’re making Pc wait like 2 years to even play it. I’m over them. 🤷🏽♂️
I’ve been looking online and saw that a good amount of people have upgraded their SSD’s in the Ally X since owning it and are using them without a heatsink.
Gta V for sure is getting the boot
Hmm funny, games still work on my Rog Ally.
lets hope so.
So is it just me or the game just runs fine?
The real resin wy they pushed anti cheat it to push the gta+ subscription service
My best bet for the games that wont be working for the steam deck anymore would be Diablo IV (cuz its blizzard) and GTA V
Edit: alright well I was so sure about Diablo but hey i got the GTA V right xD
Oh, I'll still be able to play the single player though? Cool, never touched online anyway.
Still bullshit they're treating their
customers like this.
GTA has a horrible anti cheat. I’m so ok with this. Especially since gta5 runs poorly on it and probably won’t be able to run gta6.
PSSR, DLSS and XeSS use AI, FSR Is not using AI, thats why FSR 4 need to jump on AI but how this will impact jumping 4 years latter ? we'll see.
Anti cheat system not being supported let's this steam deck down big time
It's like karma kanick's what are you gonna say you don't believe them they can say whatever they want That's the sad truth
I’ll only buy gta6 if it is compatible with steam deck :/
Its ok ket them do what they want.. they have one less customer 😊
I'm going with diablow 4 for $500, Alex
Smh Rockstar is being funny I pay money for gta v and they definitely wrong if thus game doesn't work online than give us our money back Rockstar
The bad news is you can't play GTA 5.
The good news is you can play GTA 5.
It's an easy answer that isn't elaborate well in this video.
*Ghost of Tsushima enters room*
That game has the same label as GTA 5 - you can play the single player mode just fine, online though is a no go now.
So have fun playing GTA 5 on Steamdeck just fine, just don't bother with GTA (5) ONLINE.
I specifically said that it was for GTA Online.
Rare L Rockstar...
I'll guess GTA V
{after unpausing} ...and I was right! Dang. :/
'Escape From Tarkov', you say...🤔
No GTA online? .... And nothing of value was lost. Online was always terrible and online killed story expansions and story content updates. Ask yourself why all of the RDR2 online content was never trasfered to story mode? Give us your money thats why.
Was actually going to buy GTAv
Glad I didn't
Ai anti cheat like anybrain is the way of the future not kernel level anti cheat
Looking more like lord gaben, brother... less hair. And lbs 🙃
Good thing I never bought GTAV
I gonna guess that GTA5 is gonna get the ol' HEAVE-HO!!!! and NO I haven't skipped ahead (in case I'm right lol)
HAHA!!! LAME SAUCE!!!! wait... I'm prolly wrong about that....
