One way to get back in to games you stopped playing a while ago is by going back 3 or 4 saves. Retreading an hour or so can help get over that hurdle as you remember how to play and get some story reminders of roughly where you were. Of course not all games do a bank of saves but where its possible its a banger.

The current Steam Controller is already set up for alt-tabbing with the "Guide Button Chord Layout". Guide (Steam) button + Right Menu will open the alt-tab menu and it will stay open while you hold the Guide button. While open, you can use the grip buttons to select between the tasks. So... 🙂

For the last topic, the other use case for the group is for homebrew and / or emulation. I've also seen custom mods on the page as well. I personally followed it to keep up with the modding scene around the console since I happen to have a Lite and a Version 2 that aren't as easily modifiable.

I just want 1 good one with touchpad focus. we got that with the steam controller. all i want is an update to that. super tired of people that are literally spoiled for choice with stick focussed controllers dictating what one of the few companies doing something different are able to do. that said, i'll pick up 2 on day one anyway because what choice do i have? -_-

If valve provides the servers and bandwidth for the developer, i understand that they don't want to see "free keys" being sold cheap on other sites. BUT they absolutely should not try to stop a developer from selling thier products anywhere they want, as long as the infrastructure is provided by the other store.

Part of the reason why Nintendo goes after emulation as hard as they've been doing is because they see non-proprietary emulation as a threat to their sales. Nintendo wants people to play games on *their* hardware in a closed garden type of ecosystem because that's where they get a significant amount of revenue from. They see emulators like Yuzu and Ryujinx as a detriment to their sales because even if emulation is more of a niche thing within the switch userbase and doesn't account for vast majority of users, they don't wan't emulators to take away from sales like what happened with Tears of the Kingdom when that was current. When the Switch 2 comes out, I expect them to continue their practices to keep their sales numbers as high as they can. The point is Nintendo doesn't want you to play games on other hardware like how Microsoft is becoming more platform-agnostic as of late, and how Sony, for all their faults, is releasing some of their games on PC. That is not the type of business Nintendo is pursuing. You don't have to like the decisions Nintendo are making here, I personally don't, but you have to accept that it is what it is from a business perspective. Would it be nice if Nintendo made their exclusives multiplatform so that we can play them on Steam and other consoles without having to resort to emulation to get better performance? Yes, but that's not what Nintendo wants, and we just have to deal with it whether we like it or not. If you really don't like the idea of playing Nintendo games locked down on a singular piece of underpowered hardware, then you're better off just getting a PC handheld at that point and sticking with that. There's tons of great non-nintendo games to play on the steam deck or rog ally anyway.

You guys really glossed over the difference between selling "steam keys" or selling the game on some other platform.
A steam key implies a ton of costs on the backend. Be it storage, bandwith, CDNs, etc. And a ton of other optional integrations: steam workshops, friends list, achievements, etc. All that stuff matter. If you don't want any of that, then don't put your game on steam and do whatever you want. If you sell a steam key, then you should play by their rules. If you don't want to do that, then don't sell steam keys. There are other stores that don't operate with steam keys.

I like pressing on the touchpad in general - I'd much rather do that to click than pull the trigger in most cases. With that in mind, using the touch pads for the keyboard is just completely natural to me. I'm not the fastest at it, sometimes I'm still trying to reach a key with the wrong touch pad and it still takes me effort to use the additional shortcuts (face buttons for delete/enter, trigger for shift), but at the end of the day, I don't think it's as difficult as it seems. Once you've got the clicking on the pads down, the rest is pretty much automatic.

I understand this hypothetical steam clause applying to key-shops. If a developer is selling a game for substantially less on a key-shop and as a result most of their sales are through the key-shop, valve is providing CDN services and all the nice features of the steam launcher and making nothing off those sales. If this hypothetical clause applies to Epic and other fully independent stores that's scummy.

so as someone who is a member of the group, I assure you that they aren’t actually actively pirating games. however, it’s a resource for people to learn how to hack their switch to be able to play games if they want to.
personally, I originally joined it to learn how to hack my switch to be able to back up my Game cartridges and load them onto my steam deck to play them on that so I didn’t have to bring my cartridges everywhere. I went because those are expensive and I at one point when I was younger had my Game Boy case with all of my cartridges stolen when I was traveling and that sucks it’s a lot cheaper to replace a steam deck than it is to replace a Nintendo switch and 30 different cartridges.
Another annoying thing Nintendo likes to do that this is a way around is games like Pokémon or animal crossing they won’t let you have the same save on multiple switches. I could always have a back up of my save on my steam deck.
I have never pirated a Nintendo game and I never plan to until they win after Yuzu. 1:41:14

Most people don't pirate just because they're thieves. People pirate for reasons. For me I'll pirate older games because they're too expensive to buy and play on original hardware (pretty sure everyone on this podcast does that and its still piracy), many pirate Switch stuff because they want to play Switch games but not support Nintendo because of their behavior, some just pirate because they want to play Switch games at better resolution/framerate.

Just a bunch of rationalization’s for stealing because it’s so easy to steal digital goods. I dare you to go out into the real world and start stealing things because of what X company does that you don’t like. Companies provide products to make money. They are not required to offer those products in perpetuity or and whatever price you see fit.

@@NerdNest Who cares, even if they are? Is there any material effect to Nintendo? Some numbers go down on a screen somewhere, and nobody's life is impacted in any way. And it's not coming anywhere close to threatening Nintendo's ability to continue making their products or putting their business in financial jeopardy whatsoever. Do you think that Nintendo cares about being immoral toward you? If you were standing in the way of them making a ton of money but doing nothing wrong, and they were able to send you to prison forever to get rid of you with no consequences, they'd do it. They do not care about you and they are not inhibited by morality.
Besides that, piracy is a service issue. If Nintendo provided what people wanted for a reasonable price, there would be no piracy. And I can demonstrate this for you right now. You look about my age or older. Do you remember when basically everyone was pirating music? They would download music, burn them to CDs and later put them on MP3 players. Well, they don't anymore. Because there are services like Spotify to stream music, very convenient and affordable, and you can also still buy the songs and own them on services like Apple Music. And the selection is very, very good, almost anything you want to hear can be streamed or bought. In other words, as soon as a comparable or better music service existed, people were happy to pay, rather than pirate, even though it's much easier to pirate music these days than in the past due to technological advancements, including much faster internet connections. You could download a torrent of virtually every popular song in a decade in a few hours. And yet, most people do not pirate music anymore.
The reason people pirate Nintendo games is because Nintendo does not offer a good service at a reasonable price. They are throwing around their money and power to gouge people and force them to do things they don't want to. Their services are vastly inferior to piracy. Piracy is one tool regular people have to push back against behemoths like Nintendo and every other gigantic corporation that is basically accountable to nobody, and has the money to manipulate laws in their favor when someone tries to hold them accountable. Why would any regular person with half a brain speak against pirates? Yes, piracy is technically wrong, but why even talk about it when the companies themselves are not worried about morality in the slightest? They are currently trying to turn everything in to a subscription service so you can never own anything ever again, and you're worried about how they might lose a bit of profit somewhere to pirates, even though it has no material impact on them whatsoever. Oh no, the numbers in a bank account somewhere went down, but everyone who works at Nintendo still gets paid, and the owner(s) are still unimaginably wealthy and it hasn't prevented them from living lavish lifestyles and having literally anything they want forever. I sincerely do not understand why anyone would side with them. The only time you should care is when a company that is consumer friendly and actually adheres to some sort of morality is suffering as a result of piracy. They aren't consumer friendly or moral, and they aren't suffering. So why care?

    • @NerdNest
      @NerdNest  10 годин тому

Two wrongs don’t make a right. Nintendo sells a product at the same price most companies do. You’re okay paying for others, but not Nintendo because you don’t like them?
If you don’t want to support Nintendo. Don’t play their games.
I think Nintendo are a bunch of asshats. But that doesn’t mean I get to steal from them. If I want to okay their games. I should pay for them.
To say anything else is disingenuous if you ask me.

    • @sihTdaeRtnaCuoY
      @sihTdaeRtnaCuoY 8 годин тому

@@NerdNest I love Nintendo, grew up playing them. Even barring the fact that "other people rip their customers off too so you should accept it" is a very bad argument. They do not sell things at a similar price to others. And the gaming industry in general does not sell things at a reasonable price as compared to other forms of entertainment. Unless we're talking about PC gaming. There are great sales and great prices on many PC games. And many of them you can modify as you please and own them forever, playing them on any PC at high settings.
Nintendo doesn't even want me to own these old games, they want to sell me a subscription service, and that service won't have anywhere near all of the old games I want to play. I also won't be able to modify them, use filters, increase their resolution, earn retro achievements, set up my own interface and organization of the collection, and so on. And their games run worse on their own console than on the hardware I already own.
They are trying to force me to buy their inferior hardware, to pay a subscription fee, etc all for a product that is vastly inferior to piracy. And I've already bought and owned those games multiple times and they shut down their services for them so they can sell them to me again. Each time charging way more than they should cost, considering they made their money back on it and profit off of it many many times over.
Just not buying things doesn't work. As games with predatory microtransactions have shown us. There is always a new crop of young people who don't understand they are being ripped off who will pay it, and a select group of wealthier adults who spend thousands of dollars for various reasons. If we allow them to continue on this path, the industry will be irreparably damaged.
And you're not likely to get legislation passed stopping these scummy practices because they have so much lobbying power and are in alignment with other corporations who want to end ownership in general. The best way you have to fight back against the ending of ownership in general is piracy. This way they no longer control your games.
If they offered me roms of their games, that I could legally buy at a reasonable price and emulate with all the extra features like retro achievements and filters, resolution increases, and the ability to play them on my own hardware, with my own controllers, and organize the collection however I want, and keep them forever, I would buy them.
But they don't even come close to offering any of that. And they don't plan on ever offering it. They want to own my games and restrict or remove my access to them any time they want. This is extremely immoral. Why should they have that level of control over things that I buy? As long as that is their policy, I'm not even even sure there is a good argument that piracy is immoral. If a big powerful organization is using their power to destroy an industry to their benefit, why would you be obligated to behave morally toward them? If they want people to behave morally toward them, they should behave morally, no?

Ouch. I personally have a weird memory (and play style) when it comes to games. I typically play a game for about a week, cycle to another, and repeat. Eventually, I make it back to the first game, but here's the craziness: I typically can recall everything that I've done, where I was supposed to be going, what I was supposed to be doing, and even the controls to the game. And this could be months down the line. The only real exceptions to the week rule is if a game is ridiculously terrible, annoying to play, or is a classic style game (typically anything 2D). These games usually get 24 hours tops. Sorry for the random... uh, rant? Back to the video. 😀

Over thanksgiving I introduced some family and friends to my Steam deck and heard a member tell his girlfriend ‘I don’t want a Xbox anymore babe’ 💀 😆
I do think some people tho would rather prefer a more powerful system for bigger games like Hogwarts etc. If the big 3 can have powerful boxes why can’t Valve?
After the success of Deck they must know now their VR & Steam Machine dreams are very much still alive! 🔥

I would say it depends on what you want to do with a handheld. For emulation, indie games and older games, the LCD Deck will always be amazing. For modern "big" games, it's getting long in the tooth.
I would also consider resale price. If you end up hating the handheld experience, or loving it so much you want to upgrade to something better, you can get a good amount of money back by selling it used. So that makes it a very low risk purchase at this price.
If I didn't already have a Deck, I would absolutely have bought one during this sale.

1:45:54 here’s the thing, Nintendo equates emulation with theft. As far as they’re concerned, even if you have paid for the game and you own the game if you’re not playing it on original hardware, it’s theft in their eyes.

37:47 Please play half life Alyx, also check out what's been done in the Flat2VR space: UEVR is available for lots of Unreal Engine games, the R.E.A.L. VR mod for Cyberpunk 2077 is incredible as well. This just goes to show you what is possible for just adding VR to AAA. I think there is worry about developing due VR specifically in the industry, which is understandable, however, if they just make it part of the engine and open it up to the community, things would take off, IMHO.
