  • My own design of launcher for water rockets made from PET bottles. Neither perfect nor easy to make, but it works...

    The 3D animations and the way you capture and show the rocket trajectory is just superb! I mean, the mechanism itself is very well conceived/done, but those details on showing how is what really caught me. Congratulations.

    Most excellent! I really liked the video production as a whole too - very fun to watch!

    for those who wonder, In one of the early comments long long time ago, the OP said that most of the parts were made on a very traditional lathe machine, so, being myself a mechanical technician i have to say, in your face 3D printers.

    I love it not just your design but also the video done very well you have done an excellent job, I unfortunately do not have the resources to copy your design you could easily make money out of this. "I want One" Just curious how much pressure did you put into it or have you ever tested it to see how much it could take?

    PS. How did you process the flight path?

    • @mm0063

      When a film clip is taken from tripod, frames are almost identical, except in places where something moves. So I exported frames as bitmaps and used pixel operation ("Blending") Subtract or Difference between two frames (adjacent ones or I choose a frame just before launch as a base). This way where pixels are the same, resulting pixel is 0 (black), where pixels differ, resulting pixel is lighter. Then I blended all parts to one picture using operation Lighter.
      In addition to the bottle I discovered series of dots in the result. Only this way I found that there are flying birds in the clips :-). Original was in full HD, so you can't see them in the youtube version, maybe except in the launch at 9:03 in the highest resolution. Small bird is climbing on the left side of the bottle path.

      mm0063 Haa! Fantastic! Thanks for replying, didn't see any bird movement before :D. I love the directional hub you have around the projectile! You must have used that black-and-white bitmap to find its orientation. So did you use OpenCV and coding or some premade software?

    • @mm0063
      @mm0063  7 років тому +1

      Lot of hand work in IrfanView. Very inefficient even with support of Google SketchUp (set of hub cursor images), AutoHotKey (recording of mouse click coordinates, image manipulating), Excel (angle computing) etc. I cannot recommend my approach, but I did not find any better...

      That's still nothing. Next time I plan to adopt lock mechanism used for instance on Apollo Command module hatch. :-) :-) :-).
      Closing force and its rate seems to me ideal for this purpose.

    you should sell these launchers to science teachers..you could make a lot of money if you mass produced threaded pipes and Nylon fitting....

    Can I get soft copy of the parts to 3d print ..... Pleaseeeee

    • @jacobolopez687
      @jacobolopez687 5 років тому

      no you can´t, jk, well lol if you have a 3d printer you can make the blueprints yourself you just need a vernier caliper, any bottle and solidworks or any other cheap CAD software, but maybe it is not going to work it is a lot of pressure and the material that is 3d printed is quite weak.
