I was very opposed to orthodoxy when my husband would bring it up to me. I was scared. We are members of a Presbyterian church and I would yell at him, “This is heresy!” I started listening to Fr. Josiah Trenham. And something started to wake up inside me. And I wanted us to go to a service. And when we went, I felt in love. And I’m slowly falling in love with Christ all over again. We want to inquire to become catechumens in the Fall. Please pray for us. The Orthodox Church is an hour and a half away. But we try to go Saturdays and Sundays. We have two little kids. Augustine and Joy. Please pray for us.

This is very common of former Protestants (as I am), and generally a lack of understanding about the original church.
Nearly every Protestant who I could convince, Glory to God and only through His help, to genuinely research the early church and to understand the differences between Orthodoxy and the Protestant faith just on a high level. Have found they generally agree with Orthodoxy. Some are considering going to liturgy themselves.
For some reason we (Prots) tend to view it as either an odd version of Roman Catholicism or some off shoot of Judaism. The eastern aspect of it scares us westerners lol… it’s a rational fear from the outside, but the second you go to liturgy, talk to the priest and spend time with the people… its hard not to fall in love with the true church.
Keep taking your time. This is a life long journey - if I could suggest anything, just approach the contrasting topics with an open heart to learn. Not to agree straight away just honestly try to see it from the Orthodox perspective and then see how the Holy Spirit works in you.

10 years in the Church now and my wife remains outside. She doesn’t pull or fight against me and the kids doing our thing (kids have all been baptized into the Church), for which I’m grateful, but she has zero interest herself. It’s a tough thing to row the spiritual rowboat alone. Lord has mercy.

Similar here, though despise doesn’t fit, just completely uninterested/unreligious partner… a church of ‘icon’s and lifestyle’ especially. Mainly, he’s fed up with his experience that all churches call themselves the “true” church, and the majority of the members are just diluting themselves with some holier-than-thou Jesus (social) worship. He doesn’t even bother to investigate this one at all. Sad!😢

When I first converted my husband was very opposed to me wearing a veil and talking about my faith. So I stopped, but I secretly bought him an orthodox cross necklace and put the box in his clothes drawer. He didn’t find it, but recently he has started to come to church and says he changed his mind about my veil. He says he likes our church better than any other church we’ve been to. Praying that he will be baptized someday 🙏🏻 the verse about a woman being able to affect her husband inspires me everyday.

The portion about the unbelieving spouse was very helpful.
I am a man in that situation. All I can say is, “Dont flinch” and “Love her as Christ loves the Church”.
Communion with God is worth all of the struggle. The promise is to the faithful AND their household.

Thank you so much for this talk. I chose a Saint that was a Jew first then converted, Judaism to E. Orthodoxy. St. Alexander Jacobson martyred in 1930 under the communist yoke in Russia. It has been 25 years since my conversion from Judaism, my husband and I almost divorced but we found a way through the obstacles .Glory to God!

What is interesting is that in Serbian tradition, families have a patron saint that they pass down at birth. I never thought as a woman that I could not choose a male patron saint.

I am Greek and born Orthodox. Here in Greece most names (maybe even all of them) can be used both in male or female form. For example, I know men called Panagiotis or Marios, to honour Panagia (Maria). My name is Athanasia from St Athanasios who was a man and I am a woman. So unless you have some cultural limitation specific to your language I think you would be able to take the name in the form appropriate to your gender, to honour any Saint you choose. If this is important to you you should see if in your country you can be called Marios.

I have a question I'm asking out of genuine curiosity. I was raised Baptist, lost any kind of lukewarm faith I had from youth, and at 30 I'm now becoming interested in orthodoxy.
I've seen that a protestant argument is that Orthodox Christians pray to saints, and the Orthodox response I've seen is that they venerate saints and ask for the saints prayers.
At 1:41 the priest says "When we find those saints we just cultivate in christ that relationship, that life. We pray to them, we ask for their help."
Can someone help me understand this here. This is not a gotcha moment, I'm asking out of humility. I've been watching these videos because I want to learn

This is different then what I've seen. I know many women who celebrate male saints. Many times because there are no female saints with that name. Demetria, Georgia, Danielle, Vasilliki, Ioanna all separate the male saints. For males celebrating females... I've only heard of this done for the Mother of God. If your name was Mario, Marus, Parthenos, Panayioti you would have the virgin mary as your patron. If that is acceptable I see no reason Mario could also be for Mary of Eygpt.

Question to this priest. I'm a pure blooded Cossack who was born in the Orthodoxy belief, so I was blessed too with such devoted God-fearing parents. I grew up a very rough, harsh, hard life, too, not parents' fault either. I was bleesed to be an altar boy and even an altar old man. Cause of my own selfish attitude, l virtually destroyed my soul. In 2017/2018, l wad falsely arrested did 2 jail terms here in a ver heavy dangerous jail, too. Goulburn jail NSW Australia second time in on 22/4/2018 l physically died in remand yard 10 and was shook alive to see all the inmates spread eagle against the jail walls to my left at the gates were all the riot squad with hard riot hat pellet shotgun and dogs. Was told to go to them staggered out was caught by 2 guards rushed to medical room dying cause was seeing foggy in sight but saw the nurses going crazy one of them hated me so much cause l was always in for heart problem was crying and on the fone to ambo 3 times in less than 5 mins abusing them too. Was rushed to Goulburn base hospital ED for treatment to reduce heart. That night in ICU, l physically died in front of 3 guards and nurses, and one was running around trying to find a doctor to help me. I saw my monitor reading 299/189 and red flatline red light above flashing heavily, l looked towards the 3 guards and crawled over towards them and said look l'm a zombie so what you going to do about it, one of them soiled himself in fright smelled it too. Felt no heartbeat or heard no breath, too. No one can tell me how this is possible. Heart surgeon can't explain, GP's can't either. Some are refusing to see me now, ambo's can't. My burial priest can't. By the way, if anyone thinks this is a lie, it isn't. So don't sin. At this present stage cause l was again falsely arrested by police on 22/1/24 3 crosse stolen never returned l had 3 heart attacks when these officers were all laughing at my condition and taunting me jail. I had 3 heart attacks there, and while l was waiting for a bed at the hospital, ED had another 4 heart attacks, so all up about 7/8 heart attacks in a few hrs. Released on 23 by a bedside mobile phone hearing no crosses returned Cardio ward doctors and nurses all told me my heart test were positive l have done major heart damge too. Recommended to stay back for 48 hours due to such but left now, l'm yes in critical situation cause how long before this damage heart will die. My answer is that none can prove me wrong it is God work. So can anyone tell me why l'm still alive, please note if you call me a liar well l ain't. I'm a true Christian. Such l saw scared me more. Loosimg my crosses cause of Lucifer sinners made me move away from sins full stop. Now l pray for all sinners cause all say such l write is false just an attention seeking pittiness. Believe me l wish l was dead than gone thru hell in the last 8 years. Lost everything but my soul and my faith. Now l'm preparing for my death soon cause l'm in dire straits of heart repair. May God have mercy and forgiveness to all who say l'm lying and don't want to strengthen their own faith. Please note that this is all true. Be with God one and all. Pray for for all babies, children for nowadays Humans Rights are destroying their innocent mind with lies about its ok to be a LGBSTQ or become a tran. Be warned Lucifer son is arriving soon. Pray also for all in war countries Palestinian and Ukrainian. Pray for all who have no one to pray for them and their forgiveness. God have mercy and forgiveness on us all.
