Voces8 has acustomed us to the highest artistic levels. In this recording of BWV150 with AAM it is indeed a miraculous 15' of music with superlative singers and instrumentists. Above all, the genius of Bach is truly incredible: the harmony of part 6 is just not from this world.

Full blast on my headset with noise cancelling, eyes closed...heavenly. The control in Andrea's voice, the high tones so steady, not a whisper of vibrato, ethereal. Really incredible technique.
Simply stunning. Bach was a genius of harmony. The rising line at 6:22 that travels up through all the parts like a golden thread in a tapestry and the motif at 7:13 that is repeated up through as well are just lovely. Also, Blake's casual arm cross at 7:55 while ringing those notes out amuses me.

He is able to give eternal life if we put our faith in his son - Jesus. Thank you so much for the performance and the text with translation! :-) This is good and valuable music.
it is one thing to credit JS BACH a million-fold for bringing the notes to us but it is yet another feat to fully utilise the 'messages' -for want of a better word - that transposes it into our realm of listening, emotionally receiving and assimilating it and embracing every nuance of it. Voces8 did that for me like never before.
Ich glaube nicht, dass ein Ayatollah seinen Hass ändern wird, wenn er diese Musik hört. Im Gegenteil, er wird wie ein Kind zerstören wollen, was ihm unzugänglich ist.
What a performance, what a treat. BWV 150 is a hidden gem amongst Bach's cantatas; it lacks the melodic appeal of other cantatas but it has an overwhelming internal richness. Beautiful video registration, the intimate 'rehearsal-setting' is much more appealing than a 'dressed up' setting. What blows me away every time here is the valiant call of the tenor at "täglich harre ich dein", after the soprano and the alto (7:46) - blimey. And very well done that the other singers do not try to match this, staying in their own expression.

9:30 - The bassoonist smirks remembering the fact that Bach got into a street fight with a bassoon player after he called him "Zippel Fagottist" for botching that part. True story. Great.
Actually, this cantata was written for Conrad Meckbach in Mühlhausen, which means that it was not performed in Arnstadt where the episode of the "Zippelfagottist" happened.
Some translations suggest nannygoat or greenhorn bassonist, but it appears Zippel is and alternative for of Zipfel which leterally means 'corner' or 'peak', but is used colloquially as penis, cock, willy, etc., so Bach wasn't mincing his words if that is the case!
Brilliant. I wondered why she did that. Thank you. Back here listening again after more than a year; not allowed out of our houses on any night after 9 pm, no visitors or visiting, no shopping except for food and drink, etc etc. But we still have Bach and we still have VOCES8.
Accademy of Ancient Music: The spirit of Christopher Hogwood surround you. The Best Forever. God, Johann and Christopher are smailing from heaven and are proud of you. Voces8: God Bless you. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
The music of Johann Sebastian Bach ranks very very high in my personal preferences, nevertheless I have to admit that Cantata 150 "Nach dir, Herr, verlanget mich" completely escaped me until recently, when I first came across this video. After watching it several times now I can only fall in line with previous comments that said, that this rendition does Bach's music credit in the most amiable way. Especially the start of part IV "Leite mich in deiner Wahrheit" at 06:22 sends shivers down my spine every time I listen to it. It is - for lack of a better word - perfect ❤
Some years ago I stumbled onto a study that rated the music of Bach as the highest for music therapy and healing. Of all the works measured Glen Gould's rendition of the Goldberg Variations topped that list.
Voces8 ist ein Weltklasseensemble. Die Sänger sind unglaublich, Gottseidank ohne Opernalüren, ohne Vibrato und trotzdem sinnlich.
Así es.
The soprano singing the solo beginning around 5.00 is using more vibrato than is customary for Voces8 but it's still not offensive.
👍🏼
So glad I'm not the only one who thinks that Opernalüren und (zu viel) Vibrato ruin vocal performance of this kind.

Did you notice the gas heater in the background?
@Gordon Stephens our heating was broken!
Exact !
Wow! Ha.
Yes! And (don´t) imagine if that fight ended differently...
Perfection of Bach and Voces8! OMG Eleonore's aria was supreme!
Wie kann man hier den Daumen runter machen!?!?!?!...es ist einfach wunderschön und natürlich!!!!
Congratulations - to the team: the singers, the instrumentalists, the conductor, the film crew, and, of course, Bach himself.
Voces 8, your ensemble singing, onsets of phrases , stunning colour blend, all just exquisite. Thank you all.
VOCES8 you good people are wonderful performers, a delight to brighten dark days or put a rainbow in bright days.
Your performance brought chills and tears. Fan-TAS-tic! You captured this composition perfectly! Thank you so much for sharing!
That stepwise ascending vocal line in the beginning of Leite Mich was nothing short of FANTASTIC
Thank you thank you thank you!!! This is my favourite cantata, and this recording has gone right to the top of the list. Well done to all involved!
I read a comment by a noted rock musician, and he said, "compared to Bach, we all suck!" This cantata illustrates that comment.
It was Pat Metheney interviewed by Rick Beato.

Robert Schumann said the same thing: verglichen mit ihm sind wir alle Stümper.
