they could transform into battroid no problem with underwing payloads, they just keep their wings unfolded, pretty sure you could see it in the final battle of do you remember love
@@picoletor For "Love, Do You Remember" it was when Max Stirling followed Miriya Parina onto the Meltraedi ship and had the fight inside the airlock; he still had his missiles on his wings.
In both DYRL and Macross, valkyries had missiles still on the wings hardpoints, they just extended the wings and launched them, Max did it several times in both DYRL and Macross
@@foddermike yup! and a nice detail, when max valkirye rolls in the ground, the next scene, the wings are broken! also need to check it, but i think when hikaru kills lord boduroza, his vf-1s also has the wings extended and launching missiles

That's really sweet man! Though it does go to show the difference between the cartoons vs what might be possible. In the cartoon they're always shown as having some hinge in the nose section allowing the torso to double over a little. The toys/models/CGI shows just how rigid this would have to be.
Impressive it can physically transform, widout helpe of "anime magic" It only show the orginal design was sound. Keep up the good work.

The designer for the variable fighters, Shoji Kawamori, has a degree in mechanical engineering which is why the transformations look plausible.
I loved the series when I first saw it as a kid. The thing that gets me now however is the stresses on the tail and hip joints. I wish we had an alloy that could handle the stresses that would be involved. Very well put together vid. The kid inside still loves watching this.
@@doubleheadedeagle6769 That is why Macross uses overtechnology (technology based on initial research on the crashed alien ship).
One use of overtechnology is energy conversion armor. of The VF-1's armor in fighter mode is already better than that of a tank. It can crash through a building without serious damage. Once it transforms into either GERWALK or battroid mode, its energy conversion armor activates, giving it extra defense.

Yes you can buy them now , the bandai dx line 1/48 scale VF-1 toys are works of art. Very expensive at atleast $ 300 usd but the hand painted details,fully functional jet details like rhe articulated landing gear, canopy ,wing flaps, air brakes etc + perfect transformation and articulation that are above and beyond whats done in this video which was already very good. Ive bought 3 cause i couldnt resist . Haha

Reminds me of a mod for ARMA 2 about 9 years ago except it only had the first 2 stages.
I used to have a toy like that in the 80's. A white jet with red stripes. So cool.
Much more involved and complicated than the flipbook and 8mm animation I did back in the 70s. But, that's all we had. Home computers? Who remembers the TRS-80?
As an old and retired 8mm filmmaker(a miniature modeler, camera and VFX direction), I believe that it's very difficult to shoot transformation cuts in this movie using miniature based technique like stop motion and/or go motion technique :) A few filmmakers I knew used hand drawing 2D animation often, and it could be an only solution for making this kind of cuts at that time.
The TRS-50 was an expensive high-tech machine for me. Wow! it has a display and a keyboard, and the Z-80 processor inside!

@@tan.j.vostok there's actually a good workaround you're model is a cell shaded version and not the full 3d like the Statelite model. The other thing is Harmony Gold would have already shut you down by now anyway.
@@barrybend7189 It's my rule not yours. I need to respect to the rights of others in order to protect my rights. So the model should be under my control completely.
The cell shading style can be cancelled by only a few clicks on a window of a 3DCGI application. And if Harmony Gold USA claims copyright infringement I will remove this movie without hesitation.
Hell, Harmony Gold has stopped imports of the new macross from coming into America. That includes the frontier and delta related stuff including model kits. If you know Harmony Gold and how they deal with these kind of things, theyre quite heavy handed.

Does anyone else see how small the wind area is lol. This thing would need to fly pretty fast to stay aloft.
At least in this model, the dimensions of the wings are almost the same as those of the Panavia Tornado IDS. And the empty weight of Vf-1 and Tornado is about 14 tons. Therefore, the wing area and wing load are very similar, except when the sweep angle is set to a minimum. The minimum sweep angle of Tornado is smaller than that of VF-1.
The effective wind area varies with an alpha angle and operation of high lift devices. In addition, Vf-1 can use thrust vectoring devices to control the alpha angle independent of air-speed or to produce lift force directly even under stall conditions.
Literally generates like ZERO lift. It could never launch off a carrier with wings like this.
It doesn't have to. It's not real. It's fiction. Period.
@@pandoranbias1622 The wings of the F-104 Starfighter and Messerschmitt VJ-101 were way smaller than these, and yet they still generated lift. It's debatable whether the VF-1's would provide enough lift, but don't say they don't provide any at all.

In the GERWALK/Guardian mode - the hybrid mode between jet fighter and battroid/battloid - don't the legs and feet still function as thrusters? I thought they sort of rocket-jumped themselves great distances.
I remember main thrusters can be activated without relying on FIGHTER/GERWALK/BATTROID mode if needed. The GERWALK mode utilizes ground effect to float with minimal thrust, resulting in efficient high speed movement. A "jump using thrusters" in GERWALK or BATTROID modes would cause severe acceleration loads for the pilot ;)

明確にガンポッドグリップ部用の凹みが描かれた作画用設定画像は無く、「凹みが無いと成立しない作画用設定画像」がいくつかあるだけというのが実態です。作画設定資料だけを見ていては、腕に固定されているときのガンポッドのグリップの変形形状や寸法が色々あって決められないので、「腕固定時もグリップの形状や寸法は変化しない」ことを前提に大きめの凹みとしています。なお、凹みの位置はガンポッドの寸法見積もりにも依存するので、「これで決まり」という位置ではありません。
素晴らしい!出来ればスロー再生も入れてくれるとなお良いです!

VF-1の変形機構は、股関節(脚部と胴体との接続部分)に強烈なごまかしがあるのでアニメ設定のまま立体化はできない。
完全変形物はそこを苦労している。
昔あった超合金でも、設定にないレールを追加して機首部に横付けしてたね。
マクロスゼロでは機首股関節ジョイントへ脚部エンジンを移動するブームを設定してましたね。
膝アーマーは、外側に開くではなく、張り付いたままという解釈だったけど違うかな?
最初期の作画設定資料では膝下脚部にほぼ全体が収納(ほぼそのまま下に動くイメージ)されます。ただし膝アーマー部が膝下脚部に固定としか見えない画も同時期に多数描かれてもいます。変形トイでもいくつかの異なる処理がされていますが、それぞれにソースらしき画があり、一概に「独自解釈」とは見做しにくいことが多いです。ちなみに最初の変形トイと言えるタカトクトイス版トイでは膝アーマーを上下方向に短くすることで半ば収納された状態と同等まで膝アーマー上端位置を低くしていますが、それでもまだこの位置は高くてガウォーク時の膝の最大曲がり角度は十分にとれません。またファイターモード時に蛇腹部を全てカバーできません。膝アーマー部を蛇腹部または膝上側脚部の一部(張り付いたままの意味?)とし、かつガウォークモード用の膝回転位置を別途用意しておく変形トイの登場には唸りました。きっちり機能する定番となる解釈ですね。ただし、膝アーマー部や蛇腹部の横幅上限が制限されるため、どうしてもこれらが細身になりがちです。
本モデルは可能な限り作画設定資料に従う方針で作成しました。ファイターモードでの寸法や部品の繋がりを優先してモデル化した結果、最初期の作画設定資料のように膝下脚部に膝アーマーを収納できる空間がそもそも無く(少なくとも着陸用主脚にぶつかる)、収納途中の部品の干渉をさけるために膝頭っぽい凸部も無くさなければなりませんでした。説明欄にリンクを貼ってある「製作覚書き」内にも書いてある通り、膝アーマーは結局「浮かせて(他のどの部品とも接続関係を仮定していない)」います。これは「解釈不能」と白旗を上げたということです。目的がモデリングではなくアニメーション作成である場合は、パーツをこっそり置き換えることで誤魔化す部分でしょう。

BTW according to the original ANIME TV series I watched in 1982, unknown alien technologies called "over technology" is applied to the VF-1s. So I stopped thinking about such things nearly 40 years ago already :)
And I believe that VF-1s break instantaneously by only "doing a tuck and roll on the ground", if they are built by the same materials of F-14s.

Ok, I see the movie magic with the fighter intake housings/battroid hip joints. In fighter and GERWALK modes, the front of the intake housings hinge off of the bottom of the upper intake strake ramps/battroid chest (0:30, 0:33, 0:37, 0:55, 0:59, 1:00), but in battroid mode, the hips suddenly hinge off of the center torso/fighter nose FLIR bumps with tiny bars (0:56, 0:59, 1:05).
What is the other bit of movie magic?
Your findings are detailed and correct;), but they were not introduced by me. Related parts were modeled and rigged so to realize their original motions, in other words, to realize what are shown in the original reference drawings for animators such as "suddenly hinge off".
You would find many of two types of "magics".
Firstly a few parts that you can see in the FIGHTER mode disappear in other modes. These happens in the original reference drawings, many animated sequences and "transformation" toys (To be exact, most of the toys does not have those parts even in the FIGHTER mode).
And many of modeled and rigged joint structures, except around hip and ankles, are different from those in the original reference drawings because drawn structures seems impossible mechanically.
@@tan.j.vostok The Yamato VF-1 toys added a novel hinge bar from the rear underside of the fighter that joins under the fighter nose in battroid mode, and also provides the battroid hip bars. It supplemented and expanded upon the original artwork and anime, without contradicting any of it.
That hip bar is still a spindly, vulnerable, fragile contraption. But it is the best solution I have seen thus far to the challenge.
As to other smaller components disappearing, I still do not notice them. Perhaps I am so focused on the macro that the micro escapes me. Or perhaps your animation is just that good. 😎
