I love how the dog isn't just inherently evil. Yeah, he'll murder an entire family as retribution for a child harming him without the knowledge that he's sentient and he'll record you with a camcorder without your consent for... reasons? But if you don't shoot him, he's just fine letting you play the game. A master at proportionate response, he certainly is not, but he does have reason for his actions.
"the dog isn't just inherently evil. Yeah, he'll murder an entire family as retribution for a child harming him without the knowledge that he's sentient and he'll record you with a camcorder without your consent for... reasons?" Yeah........definitely not evil
@fluckter_600 Perhaps not phrased the best way... I meant that he does things with reason. Bad reasons, reasons bad enough to probably justify calling him evil now that I think of it, but I wanted to note that he did have a reason for his actions because it seems that a lot of horror monsters just kill to kill; because they're the horror monster character that is supposed to chase and hunt the victim character. I thought it neat that he *actually has to be prevoked* to do anything. Now the camcorder is just kinda weird, uncalled for, and the fact that it can happen in a playthrough without provocation feels like the devs flat out forgot to make it dependent on the player's route.

this is forever still one of my favorite vr horror games ever. insanely immersive and i havent even played it for myself yet (mostly watched various playthroughs, i don't own a vr headset lol)
Whats ridiculous is that there is a theory about this game that the Dog is secretly our father, that tape where the dog points to you through the tv, signalling as if you are his child, but what doesnt make sense is IF THIS IS OUR DAD, WHY IS HE MURDERING US.
Man, I remember watching MatPat playing this game on GTLive... had so much trouble seeing stuff at the top of the screen because of the setup, it was as if he was looking downward all the time. Still, seeing all of the crazy stuff hidden in the game was nuts. They did a good job setting up Boneworks, although I really wish they'd get the third game done, because it sounded like it would be absolutely insane. I recommend watching the Game Theory episodes on both Duck Season and Boneworks.
watching you play this game makes me want to have a vr game where you can just chill with people and play the game with no horror elements and explore the house or have a pizza party or even just play the game!
I used to play this with my family computer when I was young and this is so nostalgic, the game back then is called "duck hunt" where you shoot ducks and the dog will pick it up.
The way I experienced this game made it one of my best VR experiences ever. I had absolutely no idea what it was when it came out, I just saw that it was a top selling VR game about duck hunt and thought "ah cool i'll try it" without looking into it any futher.... safe to say, the part where the dog was at the sliding door took the life out of me, it just instantly shattered my assumptions of what the game was. 10/10, never felt so claustrophobic and helpless. only other time i've had this sort of blind experience (although not really horror) is with Outer Wilds.
When I was younger, I was always terrified of literally any horror thing ever...but also simultaneously really wanted to watch these stories. I watched someone play this one and for like a full month after was scared shitless. I've recently been rewatching some of these to see if I still find them scary and rewatching this one I don't fully see why. A lot of it is just goofy as hell, like giant dog with lazer beams and the dog floating. Obviously if it was in VR it would be way worse.
It never fell off, the devs made a good game everyone liked. Then they went to do other projects, no crappy merch, no sequel, no $200 book series, I respect them.
I remember this game. I was terrified but it’s honestly a work of art when I look back at it. First vr game I ever tried besides Job simulator (I guess?)
Honestly, the Lore dump at the end with that VHS tape was really something. Because the Dog points at you, then to himself and then he has his arms together as if he’s cradling a baby. Kind of hinting at hey, you are my baby. Or that’s the implication based on the gestures.
I once pointed out how every single one of MatPat's theories was either wrong, or not even a theory because he was basically just rēading the wiki. Like good job "figuring" out that SMB3 is really a play, did the fact that it was presented as a play tip you off? Or was it the interview where Miyamoto said that the entire Mario cast was an acting troupe? The strangest part is he implies that _only_ SMB3 is fake, when the whole series is canonically non-canon, so his "theory" is technically wrong. Anyhow, on to the relevant portion. Someone was butthurt that I was "insulting" him but pointing out his faults, so I asked them to tell me which theory they thought was the best, had the most credibility. They sited this one. They literally sited "the Dog is your Dad" theory explicitly debunked by the devs themselves. I guess I shouldn't be too shocked... when Game Theory was trying to figure out Ash's father, they ended up choosing Giovanni, the _one single person_ that the Pokémon Company has confirmed that _it isn't._ Like, seriously, Jessie has a higher chance of being Ash's Dad at this point... advanced cloning _does_ work in that world.
@@l38endary And, without fail, some simp chimes in, "Ackchyually, MatPat doesn't really _believe_ anything he says, so it's okay!" No, that's _worse._ I don't know how to explain to you that it makes it so much _worse_ that way?
Im not gonna lie when i was younger i thought this was the scariest thing ive ever seen and was terrified of it and i watched a whole bunch of other horror movies and shows and games but this game just was for some reason on a whole another level of scary to me.
The "best man" ending is my favorite ending by a long shot lol (and gotba few reasons) The 1st obviously being that the fog finally dies. It doesnt quite show it in the video but in a normal play through tbe dog will terrorize you for so many playthroughs and he'll probably kill you a lot. Its satisfying seeing the dog finally get what it deserved 🙏 2: I don't know if this was intentional or not, but the dog looks so f'ing panicked whe running away that it is so funny 😂 Unfortunately It may not be the "best ending" that it looks like at a first glance. The dog has much boxier and pixelized blood in the canon ending which shows that the dog truly died. We see the dog lived in both the game world and real world and chances are that if the dog was only killed in the real world, it still can live in the game world where the dog can then escape once again and go on his havoc streak. Eithet the canon ending or fiesta ending are the best, depending on if you prefer having a anomalous dog murder maniac let free or having your mom die.

10:52 I just realized something morbid, when you buy the duck hunt game, you play as not a hunter, but a dead child/player
Crazy this turned into whatever The “Bone” series of games is. I couldn’t be happier about that
i just love the "bone" series, spent over 90 hours boning in both of the games!!
I gotta be completely honest i entirely forgot about this game. It's so refreshing to be reminded why it was so popular in the first place years ago. Awesome vid
game is peak. still remembered watching streamers play this game back in the pandemic

this is forever still one of my favorite vr horror games ever. insanely immersive and i havent even played it for myself yet (mostly watched various playthroughs, i don't own a vr headset lol)
Whats ridiculous is that there is a theory about this game that the Dog is secretly our father, that tape where the dog points to you through the tv, signalling as if you are his child, but what doesnt make sense is IF THIS IS OUR DAD, WHY IS HE MURDERING US.
bad kid, bad dad
if that makes no sense its an easter egg

Dude when i was younger, this game terrified me so so so much. Nowadays I love this game, still scary to this day!
i had fears for weeks that the dog would just appear out of the dark areas of my house and kill me
@@NotPsyduckc Yeah, but that just goes to show how well made and scary it is lol.
Honestly great to see that people are still playing this great game
watching you play this game makes me want to have a vr game where you can just chill with people and play the game with no horror elements and explore the house or have a pizza party or even just play the game!
The last one being silent hill made me laugh
I used to play this with my family computer when I was young and this is so nostalgic, the game back then is called "duck hunt" where you shoot ducks and the dog will pick it up.
Finally, Duck Season Speedrun
Love your content
Best part at 17:25 when the police chopper flies away humming ride of the Valkyries.
never felt so claustrophobic and helpless.
only other time i've had this sort of blind experience (although not really horror) is with Outer Wilds.
Game theory said that the dog was the boys father
As much as I love MatPat, half of his theories are as solid as water.
@@CowWithTommyGunAltAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA yes
Okay? And?

Ya I saw that video.

Ah yes, a duck season game

When I was younger, I was always terrified of literally any horror thing ever...but also simultaneously really wanted to watch these stories. I watched someone play this one and for like a full month after was scared shitless. I've recently been rewatching some of these to see if I still find them scary and rewatching this one I don't fully see why. A lot of it is just goofy as hell, like giant dog with lazer beams and the dog floating. Obviously if it was in VR it would be way worse.
10:25 I love how you wave back, so polite! X'D
Literally me as a kid. There's shit going on all around me, and I just go to the computer XD
god this game is so nostalgic, i remember watching 8 bit ryan and others play this way back when.
It’s so nice to see someone playing this game again after it fell off 😢
It never fell off, the devs made a good game everyone liked.
Then they went to do other projects, no crappy merch, no sequel, no $200 book series, I respect them.
@@pokemata1035 fell off i mean like it became less popular over time after it came out, although i totally agree with you

OMG i’ve literally been thinking about this game!!! I’m so glad your playing it rn!
there was a stress level zero reference on the kids blanket with the name of their first game "hover junkers"
That sure is a great game, I wish i could try it one day.
P.S.: that last ending is a reference to a secret ending in silent hill 2.
I remember this game. I was terrified but it’s honestly a work of art when I look back at it. First vr game I ever tried besides Job simulator (I guess?)
Sheesh what a blast from the past
i remember searching everywhere on youtube for all endings back when this game came out, cant believe its been so long
OH MY GOD this is one of my favorite indie horror games!! This is so awesome to see, hell yeah!!
Honestly, the Lore dump at the end with that VHS tape was really something. Because the Dog points at you, then to himself and then he has his arms together as if he’s cradling a baby. Kind of hinting at hey, you are my baby. Or that’s the implication based on the gestures.
14:20 "I'm not sure where our dad is"
welllllllllllllll about that
These kind of games never get enough recognition
i love how in all of these videos he gets like world records and just brushes them off like he didn't spend weeks practicing
idk a lot of these are just dead games that nobody played, as you saw near the end, there was a single attempt for the all endings speedrun...
this soundtrack hits so different bro especially the canon ending one
"I wonder what happened to his dad" he may or may not be the one you killed...
Edit: chill omfg I didn’t know+ I said may or may not
that theory was debunked by the game devs
He's not
I once pointed out how every single one of MatPat's theories was either wrong, or not even a theory because he was basically just rēading the wiki.
@@Wendy_O._Koopa chill out bro, those videos are just made for entertainment
@@l38endary And, without fail, some simp chimes in, "Ackchyually, MatPat doesn't really _believe_ anything he says, so it's okay!" No, that's _worse._ I don't know how to explain to you that it makes it so much _worse_ that way?
this game is so underrated. like, come on man. more people need to know this master piece exists. and its only a few years old
20:06 NETHERLANDS
Im not gonna lie when i was younger i thought this was the scariest thing ive ever seen and was terrified of it and i watched a whole bunch of other horror movies and shows and games but this game just was for some reason on a whole another level of scary to me.
I remember Coryxkenshin playing this, good times, good times
That last ending I'm pretty sure is a Silent hill 2 reference to the secret dog ending
Before the dog ending the dog in the tape is making motions that imply that the dog is the father btw so thats cool
It was confirmed to be false by the devs, they made a statement after MatPat popularized the theory. The dog was probably just mocking you.
The "best man" ending is my favorite ending by a long shot lol (and gotba few reasons)
The 1st obviously being that the fog finally dies. It doesnt quite show it in the video but in a normal play through tbe dog will terrorize you for so many playthroughs and he'll probably kill you a lot. Its satisfying seeing the dog finally get what it deserved 🙏
2: I don't know if this was intentional or not, but the dog looks so f'ing panicked whe running away that it is so funny 😂
Unfortunately It may not be the "best ending" that it looks like at a first glance.
I used to love this game! I’d always watch Game Theory’s vids about it.
Day two of asking for a Yugioh Forbidden Memories speedrun.
