Yeah I liked that miyoho make that the dendro traveler is very decent (I'm considering after the release of new dendro characters) compare to the other elements. For example Anemo traveler is trash compared to Venti and others support Anemo characters. Geo Traveler is trash compared to Zhongli. Electro Traveler is very bad compared to other electro supports.
I don't understand why HoYo made the traveler so annoying to build, like : Traveler Normal Attack should not require to be upgrade on each element, just once. Traveler Should require less books or mora to lv up than other 5* , as an incentive to players who wants to build the, I mean c'mon, they stats are nothing to be amazed
There's also the fact that traveler's constellations are pretty good upgrades, an i will not be surprised if it will appear in meta comps in the future.
The constellations are NOT good at all. Constell 2 is the only alright one. Constell 1 gives you 3.5 energy which is very low compared to any other character in the game. It also forces you to switch to the traveler every 8 just to get a total of 11 energy to use your burst on cooldown. Diona, for example gives 15 without the need to do anything aside from using your burst once. Constell 4 is just a solution to a problem in the traveler kit. buff with 6 em? Needs 10 seconds to get 60 em? Why not just make it 30 or at lest 20 every 3 or 2 second ? 6 elemental mastery every second for a duration of 10s is such a weird buff, and it was a problem that was solved by a constellation. It's a waste of that constellation spot. Constell 6 gives a buff with 12%. It's ok but it's still so little when you think about the condition and the fact this is the last constellation. For reference: C6 of the Anemo traveler reduce resistance by 20% by the way. Sure these are free constellations, but saying they're "pretty good" is what I disagree with strongly.
@@Accomplish305 lemme guess, traveler slander? Because this is the first time I'm actually maining the traveler thanks to dendro, and the fact that their kits in mind synergize so well with R5 favonius sword? You can't stop me from using 'em even if i will still get the dendro archon lol.
@@gericjohnm.olivar9563 I'm just back from a break here, so I'm on my way to try using dendro traveler. I'm main on Geo Traveler and while it's clunky deals okay damage.
I've been running Childe, Dendro MC, Kazuha, and Kuki and it's been insanely fun. Childe's hydro application makes a TON of bloom cores. Pair that with Kuki's active skill and burst you get an insane amount of Hyperblooms popping off. Kazuha (or whatever anemo unit tbh) helps clump up enemies as well as drag the Dendro cores into one spot. It's seriously been SO fun.
I run the exact same team and the number of digits and text from: Childe's riptide, bloom, hyperbloom, electro-charge, and swirl damage gives my non-gaming laptop a run for its money That said its a really fun team (despite only borrowing Emblem from my xiangling for my lvl 20 traveler and no set bonus on lvl 20 shinobu)
I would like to thank the Dendro element for justifying my purchase of Keqing's outfit beyond just aesthetic purposes. Now she will kick ass and look good doing it!
I’ve been really enjoying using Ayato, Fischl, MC and Zhongli lately and it’s such a fun team! Even when other Dendro characters come out I imagine I’ll still use MC, due to their simplicity.
@Nur Lmz that seems like a good enough team honestly either fischl or keqing are both pretty good for electro application so pick whoever's playstyle you like more
@Nur Lmz keqing's e skill is good for exploration too. Well both units are pretty good I personally use zhongli for his shield and shred and I don't have a kazuha. On a side note build fischl when you feel like it cause she's a broken support especially in sumeru I use her to spam skill and burst b/w rotations as she's good for reactions.
My team is currently Lumine, Raiden, Xingqiu, and Kazuha. And boy it's fun! I wanted to maximize hyper bloom it's my favorite reaction so far. I honestly taught I was the only one who taught dendro MC is good.
Sayu became much stronger too. You can now play her in an aggrevate team, where you infuse her roll with electro and she will deal high electro damage while simultaneously provide a lot of healing and buffing your electro party members. Rainslasher is a really good weapon for this team as it provides a damage bonus against electro afflicted enemies. For the artifacts either run EM,EM,EM or EM,EM,CR. If you don't believe me just try for yourself. A team I found enjoyable was Sayu+Yae+Kuki/Fishl+Dendro MC/Collei
I actually use her in my Sumeru party. Only in Inazuma and Sumeru do I have specific parties apart from my main set up. Which I find fun, cause it's the closest thing to customizing in Genshin. For Sumeru, I use the Traveler, Ayato, Thoma, and Tartaglia (him I only use during the burst reaction combo) While their Burst are not ready, it's just a cycle of using the Es of the Traveler, Ayato and Thoma to take advantage of, what I call "the bloom bomb." But if all four Burst are ready, it's Traveler, Ayato, Thoma and then Tartaglia.(of course in his melee form) And my gosh... the speed in which a horde of enemies get wiped out is fun.
im still getting used to dendro but i love how simple yet effective dendro mc's kit is! tbh I've only been using her for story immersion but she's actually been super helpful in combat :O
I feel like as we progress through the story, the MC is slowly gonna be good. Like the anemo MC was eh, Geo MC had potential, Electro MC was kinda niche, and now Dendro MC is pretty good. Can't wait for Cryo MC
tbh I doubt Cryo MC will rival other cryo characters, most of whom are good to insanely good already. And by the time we reach Snezhnaya there will be a ton of new ones. Dendro MC is pretty good but we also don't have that many characters to compare them to so far.
Don't listen to the people saying you should speak slowly, your speaking style is really nice to listen to -someone who likes hearing people talk wuickly
So far with my experimentation, I have been using the traveler, Raiden Shogun, Kokomi, and Sucrose. It is super fun when you get travelers burst, Kokomi’s jelly fish and the Raiden’s burst going.
I’ve personally been running dendro Lumine, Raiden, Fischl, and Kokomi. May not be the most optimal but it can easily defeat even the stronger new Sumeru enemies/bosses, and it is very fun to play :)
Was just thinking. "I think I'll build Dendro Traveler." and this the video shows up. Perfect timing! Also, can't wait for the updated Keqing video! Had been stalling for a while on leveling her, and just got her C2 while pulling for Tighnari, so putting her to use would be really awesome!
I lost my 50/50 for Zhongli to Keqing, so it's good to know that she may actually be decently usable with the new element lol, looking forward to the updated guide on her!
Thank you for the guide, Zy0x! I've been building Dendro MC since getting to Sumeru, so this has come at the perfect time. Your guides are always so informative and helpful, even for people like me who aren't really that focused on meta. I appreciate all the time and effort you put into your guides, so thank you for taking the time to post them for us!
@@raifikarj6698 flex. So you could go a second hydro for the new resonance and get more hp to survive the suicide. Maybe an extra pyro if you also want burning or maybe an anemo to swirl pyro onto the cores ?
Alternatively you can use Bennett+Kazuha and the healing should keep you alive through the explosions. Kazuha should be proccing burgeons so his usual full em build works
Transitioning From Electro MC to Dendro MC was such a smooth experience too. I was already running the Emblem set on her. I slapped an EM cup as a stand in for now because I don't have the fabled Dendro goblet of legend, but it works well enough anyway. ATK% Goblet is probably decent too. I should try it. She does scale with EM a bit, but she isn't triggering reactions all that often right now so ATK% is probably better until I find the Dendro Cup. Depends on sub-stats I suppose.
Just a heads up, there is a new f2p craftable sword blade. *The Sapwood blade* that is also great on Dendro traveler due to ER main stat and it has the highest base attack of 4-star blades(except the Alley Flash). It also works with the second passive of the traveler that builds off EM. (It also has good ascetics with Dendro traveler) This weapon is also great on Bennet/Xingqiu if you don't have support ER swords. (such as Sacrificial, Favonius ,etc)
@@manoharalisa5829 Geo mc has good damage, gives team some crit rate, and is a good second geo for resonance. As well as being able to keep enemy's in one area sort of.

As I see that you need help to say something good about Collei, I will say it: She fulfills the same roll as the traveler but for teams with shorter rotations.
As someone who's been playing 3 weeks but has watched alot of videos, this is easily the most easy to understand and informative I've watched for this level. Lots of great beginner videos, lots of advanced videos I don't understand yet, and this one is an EXCELLENT bridge between those 2. New sub. Thank you!!
I leveled traveler to 80/90 at Dec 2020.. Dendro traveler is good now since only a few dendro off fielder exist. For now shes/hes the staple off field dendro applicator.. Which can be adjusted if better dendro applicator is introduced into the game . This is also why Anemo MC back in 1.0 good cause she/he can self swirl that easily destroys fatui Electro hammer shields and can force reposition mobs.. Ps: Tried Keqing Kazuha Dendro MC Fischl on newest artifacto domain. To my suprise they can clear it at 8 - 10 secs mark.. no pots, foods, five star weapon, C0 kazuha.. Nice vid .. Nice vid..

Well, you only mentioned Favonius but I had thought that the Sacrificial Sword would be the best option, since with the first constellation you would take advantage of the two charges of the skill, now I am in doubt if it works or if the constellation has some kind of ICD
I thought so too. But then I thought of this: At R5, Favonius sword can give extra energy every 6s, which is shorter than the Traveller’s E skill CD (8s). So you can activate the passive 100% of the time if you crit. Whereas Sacrificial Sword’s passive only occurs every 16s, which is double that of the traveller’s E skill. So, you’d be missing out on the sword passive 50% of the time in combat. With someone like Xinqiu, the Sacrificial sword is perfect because of how long his E skill CD is, so he can always activate the sword passive. With the traveller, he’d accumulate more energy overtime with Favonius because his short skill CD. I’ve been using sacrificial this whole time, but I might switch to Favonius sword when I’m on today!
Hey, Zy0x. Can you do an Yae updated guide? I'm really thorn between the new set and the new thundering fury. Also I don't know if I change her sands to EM or keep on Atk%
That hunk of a man, Zy0x, is a Genshin streamer? Unbelievable. He could be a Calvin Klein model. Or a pro footballer with a ripped physique like that. That is by far the hottest Genshin Streamer to ever grace the esports industry. I'd let him beast his way through my mid any day.
Always love zyox's videos simple, short & easy to understand👍 anyway, can you pls do a comparison between new arti vs VV set for kazuha? Just asking lmao😆 you may not even notice me🤣
ah yes, the unforseeable future in which we MIGHT get a character that focuses on bloom and wants the traveler in tHEiR team for reaction...yes, if that case would ever happen, full EM traveler PROBABLY is the best option winkwinkwink
Ik that rn we only have 3 dendro characters but I feel that the traveler will always be meta because obvio the dendro archon will be a much better version of the traveler, but she will be a 5 star and because the traveler is already so gud, I feel many ppl would rather save their wishes for other characters.
I didn't have high expectations for Dendro, but Dendro MC has given me a new love for playing this game as I explore Sumeru. I've forgone shielding and have created an entirely new party (Lumine, Bennett, Mona and Fischl) and the Bloom/Hyperbloom/Electro-Charged/Burgeon/Burning reactions are SO much fun to watch and set off! Hats off to hoyoverse for revitalizing the game a little bit.
Definitely gonna use MC as main in sumeru. Xinq and fishl for reactions and off field damage, kazuha for em buff and grouping, and MC for dendro. Finally an MC version I can enjoy playing. Now if mihoyo can just release a traveler alternative skin that'll be perfect. He's been wearing the same clothes for 2 years. 🤣
In my opinion sacrificial sword is the best option for a dendro MC. It gives you the ability to use the elemental skill twice getting you more energy and it has a high ER substat.
Compared to favonius, it is not. Because favonius has shorter cooldown and it guarantees 3 energy particles, while using sacrificial, you only get 2 particles after using the second-skill from the passive, and sometimes 3 particles... and it has longer cooldown You get more particles rotation with favonius because the lea lotus lamp can proc
Grass is a plant with narrow leaves growing from the base. A common kind of grass is used to cover the ground in places such as lawns and parks. Grass gets water from the roots in the ground. Grass is usually the colour ‘green’. Grasses are monocotyledon, herbaceous plants. Grass is the common name for the Gramineae family of plants. With more than 9,000 known species, this family is one of the largest on Earth. Grass is extremely important to most people's lives, whether they know it or not. For one thing, grass is a major food source all over the world. Rice, corn and oats come from grass plants, for example, and most livestock animals feed primarily on grasses. In some parts of the world, people use grass plants in construction (bamboo is a grass, for example), and wherever it grows, grass plays a vital role in curbing erosion. Grass is also used to make sugar, liquor, bread and plastics, among many other things. Grasses have a very simple structure, and a very simple way of life. You can better grasp what grass needs when you understand how it actually functions in the world. At the base of the grass plant, roots grow down into the earth. Typically, grass roots are fibrous, or threadlike. They extend into the soil like fingers, collecting nutrients, soaking up water and securing the plant to the ground. Grass stems, called culms, grow up from the base of the plant (the crown). In most grass species, the culms are hollow and rigid, except at the nodes -- joints that join stem segments together. Narrow leaves extend out from the culms, above each node. The leaves alternate in direction. That is, if the first leaf on a culm grows to the right, the second leaf will grow to left and the third leaf will grow to the right and so on. The lower part of the leaf is called the sheath, and the upper part is called the blade. In most grasses, a ligule surrounds the connection between the sheath and the blade. A ligule can take the form of a thin membrane or a fringe of hair-like projections. Like the leaves on a tree, grass leaves serve to collect energy from sunlight through photosynthesis. The photosynthesizing chlorophyll in the leaf gives grass its green color. There are two major methods of reproduction in grasses. Some grasses have additional stems that grow sideways, either below ground or just above it. Stems that creep along the ground are called stolons, and stems that grow below ground are called rhizomes. Grasses use stolons and rhizomes to reach out and establish new grass culms. The stoleon or rhizome nurtures the new plant until it is strong enough to survive on its own. Grasses also have flowers. The small flowers in most grass species are known as florets. Florets grow together in small groups called spikelets, which collectively form inflorescences. Flowers produce the spores that pollinate other flowers, which produce seeds. With any luck, some of the seeds will grow new healthy grass plants. In some grasses, such as corn, the stem and the flowering part of the plant are obvious. But in lawn grasses, the long thin leaves overshadow the other elements of the plant. Unless you're up close, all you see is green stalks. The grasses include the "grass", of the family Poaceae (also called Gramineae). Also sometimes it is used to include the sedges (Cyperaceae) and the rushes (Juncaceae). These three families are not closely related but belong to different clades in the order Poales. They are similar adaptations to a common life-style. The true grasses include cereals, bamboo and the grasses of lawns (turf) and grassland. Uses for graminoids include food (as grain, sprouted grain, shoots or rhizomes), drink (beer, whisky), pasture for livestock, thatching thatch, paper, fuel, clothing, insulation, construction, sports turf, basket weaving and many others. Many grasses are short, but some grasses, like bamboo can grow very tall. Plants from the grass family can grow in many places, even if they are very cold or very dry. Several other plants that look similar but are not members of the grass family are also sometimes called grass; these include rushes, reeds, papyrus, and water chestnut. Grasses are an important food for many animals, like deer, buffalo, cattle, mice, grasshoppers, caterpillars, and many other grazers. Unlike other plants, grasses grow from the bottom, so when animals eat grass they usually do not destroy the part that grows. Without grass, earth may wash away into rivers (erosion). Evolution of grass - Graminoids include some of the most versatile plant life-forms. They became widespread toward the end of the Cretaceous. Fossilized dinosaur dung (coprolites) have been found containing grass phytoliths (silica stones inside grass leaves) Grasses have adapted to conditions in lush rain forests, dry deserts, cold mountains and even intertidal habitats, and are now the most widespread plant type. Grass is a valuable source of food and energy for many animals. Grass and people - Lawn grass is often planted on sports fields and in the area around a building. Sometimes chemicals and water is used to help lawns to grow. People have used grasses for a long time. People eat parts of grasses. Corn, wheat, barley, oats, rice and millet are cereals, common grains whose seeds are used for food and to make alcohol such as beer. Sugar comes from sugar cane, which is also a plant in the grass family. People have grown grasses as food for farm animals for about 4,000 years. People use bamboo to build houses, fences, furniture and other things. Grass plants can also be used as fuel, to cover roofs, and to weave baskets. Language - In English, the word "grass" appears in several phrases. For example: "The grass is always greener on the other side" means "people are never happy with what they have and want something else." "Don't let the grass grow under your feet" means "Do something". "A snake in the grass" is about a person that will not be honest and will trick others. Grass is sometimes used as a slang term for cannabis (also called pot, weed, or marijuana)
@@Zy0x OK (spelling variations include okay, O.K., ok and Ok) is an English word (originally American English) denoting approval, acceptance, agreement, assent, acknowledgment, or a sign of indifference. OK is frequently used as a loanword in other languages. It has been described as the most frequently spoken or written word on the planet. Its origins are disputed As an adjective, OK principally means "adequate" or "acceptable" as a contrast to "bad" ("The boss approved this, so it is OK to send out"); it can also mean "mediocre" when used in contrast with "good" ("The french fries were great, but the burger was just OK"). It fulfills a similar role as an adverb ("Wow, you did OK for your first time skiing!"). As an interjection, it can denote compliance ("OK, I will do that"),[2] or agreement ("OK, that is fine"). It can mean "assent" when it is used as a noun ("the boss gave her the OK to the purchase") or, more colloquially, as a verb ("the boss OKed the purchase"). OK, as an adjective, can express acknowledgement without approval.[3] As a versatile discourse marker or continuer, it can also be used with appropriate intonation to show doubt or to seek confirmation ("OK?", "Is that OK?").[4][2] Some of this variation in use and shape of the word is also found in other languages.[5] The etymologies of OK See also: List of proposed etymologies of OK Many explanations for the origin of the expression have been suggested, but few have been discussed seriously by linguists. The following proposals have found mainstream recognition.[6] Boston abbreviation fad The etymology that most reference works provide today is based on a survey of the word's early history in print: a series of six articles by Allen Walker Read[7] in the journal American Speech in 1963 and 1964.[8][9][10][11][12][13][14] He tracked the spread and evolution of the word in American newspapers and other written documents, and later throughout the rest of the world. He also documented controversy surrounding OK and the history of its folk etymologies, both of which are intertwined with the history of the word itself. Read argues that, at the time of the expression's first appearance in print, a broader fad existed in the United States of "comical misspellings" and of forming and employing acronyms, themselves based on colloquial speech patterns: The abbreviation fad began in Boston in the summer of 1838 ... and used expressions like OFM, "our first men," NG, "no go," GT, "gone to Texas," and SP, "small potatoes." Many of the abbreviated expressions were exaggerated misspellings, a stock in trade of the humorists of the day. One predecessor of OK was OW, "oll wright."[15] The general fad is speculated to have existed in spoken or informal written U.S. English for a decade or more before its appearance in newspapers. OK's original presentation as "all correct" was later varied with spellings such as "Oll Korrect" or even "Ole Kurreck". The term appears to have achieved national prominence in 1840, when supporters of the Democratic political party claimed during the 1840 United States presidential election that it stood for "Old Kinderhook", a nickname for the Democratic president and candidate for reelection, Martin Van Buren, a native of Kinderhook, New York. "Vote for OK" was snappier than using his Dutch name.[16] In response, Whig opponents attributed OK, in the sense of "Oll Korrect", to the bad spelling of Andrew Jackson, Van Buren's predecessor. The country-wide publicity surrounding the election appears to have been a critical event in OK's history, widely and suddenly popularizing it across the United States.

I would like to thank the Dendro element for justifying my purchase of Keqing's outfit beyond just aesthetic purposes. Now she will kick ass and look good doing it!

@@dsjgfxxkhrx4050 Well technically we waste everything in our life...
Okay, that's not really true, but yeah let people do their things lol.
I’ve been really enjoying using Ayato, Fischl, MC and Zhongli lately and it’s such a fun team! Even when other Dendro characters come out I imagine I’ll still use MC, due to their simplicity.
I'm running this team but with Jean in place of Zhongli. The healing is super comfy for Overworld exploration.
lmaoo this is exactly my team for sumeru adventure
@Nur Lmz that seems like a good enough team honestly either fischl or keqing are both pretty good for electro application so pick whoever's playstyle you like more
@Nur Lmz keqing's e skill is good for exploration too. Well both units are pretty good I personally use zhongli for his shield and shred and I don't have a kazuha. On a side note build fischl when you feel like it cause she's a broken support especially in sumeru I use her to spam skill and burst b/w rotations as she's good for reactions.
@Nur Lmz yeah pretty much. I try to forget abyss even exists lol it stresses me out . You can try dps raiden I guess?
My team is currently Lumine, Raiden, Xingqiu, and Kazuha.
And boy it's fun! I wanted to maximize hyper bloom it's my favorite reaction so far.
I honestly taught I was the only one who taught dendro MC is good.
insanely fun to suck up all the cores and then see it all hyperbloom
Dendro mc is also good for cyno and nilou.
Especially my nilou makes an unlimited amount of bombs hahah

I finally leveled her up from 40 to 80 today bc I been hearing how good she was now I’m using her on all my electro and Dendro teams
What if I wanna use heizou with this team what stats should i go for him
DENDRO MC RELEVANT DENDRO MC RELEVANT LETS GOO
YEAHH
I actually use her in my Sumeru party. Only in Inazuma and Sumeru do I have specific parties apart from my main set up. Which I find fun, cause it's the closest thing to customizing in Genshin.
For Sumeru, I use the Traveler, Ayato, Thoma, and Tartaglia (him I only use during the burst reaction combo)
While their Burst are not ready, it's just a cycle of using the Es of the Traveler, Ayato and Thoma to take advantage of, what I call "the bloom bomb."
But if all four Burst are ready, it's Traveler, Ayato, Thoma and then Tartaglia.(of course in his melee form)
And my gosh... the speed in which a horde of enemies get wiped out is fun.
Maxing out my Traveler will have his purposes as I always say, and I think this is the time.
im still getting used to dendro but i love how simple yet effective dendro mc's kit is! tbh I've only been using her for story immersion but she's actually been super helpful in combat :O
I feel like as we progress through the story, the MC is slowly gonna be good. Like the anemo MC was eh, Geo MC had potential, Electro MC was kinda niche, and now Dendro MC is pretty good. Can't wait for Cryo MC
Considering we’re most likely going to fontaine next we’ll be getting pyro mc next •-•
@@Deme_Diora666 isn't fontaine based on hydro? and natlan is pyro?

Dendro MC is pretty good but we also don't have that many characters to compare them to so far.
I like to think that the traveler is becoming better with the release of each new region as they are getting stronger in the actual story xD
Don't listen to the people saying you should speak slowly, your speaking style is really nice to listen to

This guy always delivers with great guides :D
Thank you for the guide, Zy0x! I've been building Dendro MC since getting to Sumeru, so this has come at the perfect time. I appreciate all the time and effort you put into your guides, so thank you for taking the time to post them for us!
Dendro traveler and Childe burgeon is a good suicide team lol! Thankfully Thoma provides shield and just the amount of speed for applying pyro.
So dendro, children and EM Thomas? What is the other 1 slot?
@@raifikarj6698 flex. So you could go a second hydro for the new resonance and get more hp to survive the suicide. Maybe an extra pyro if you also want burning or maybe an anemo to swirl pyro onto the cores ?

Who's the members and whats the build for Thoma?

Transitioning From Electro MC to Dendro MC was such a smooth experience too. I was already running the Emblem set on her. I slapped an EM cup as a stand in for now because I don't have the fabled Dendro goblet of legend, but it works well enough anyway. ATK% Goblet is probably decent too. I should try it. She does scale with EM a bit, but she isn't triggering reactions all that often right now so ATK% is probably better until I find the Dendro Cup. Depends on sub-stats I suppose.
I see that everyone has started to use traveler. *Proud traveler main noises*
Just a heads up, there is a new f2p craftable sword blade. *The Sapwood blade* that is also great on Dendro traveler due to ER main stat and it has the highest base attack of 4-star blades(except the Alley Flash). It also works with the second passive of the traveler that builds off EM. (It also has good ascetics with Dendro traveler)
This weapon is also great on Bennet/Xingqiu if you don't have support ER swords. (such as Sacrificial, Favonius ,etc)
Thank you so much! Now i can utilize the black billet and serve its purpose 🥺

"Constructive text here" is the best description of Collei I've seen so far.

In my opinion sacrificial sword is the best option for a dendro MC. It gives you the ability to use the elemental skill twice getting you more energy and it has a high ER substat.
Compared to favonius, it is not. Because favonius has shorter cooldown and it guarantees 3 energy particles, while using sacrificial, you only get 2 particles after using the second-skill from the passive, and sometimes 3 particles... and it has longer cooldown
You get more particles rotation with favonius because the lea lotus lamp can proc
For example:
"The grass is always greener on the other side" means "people are never happy with what they have and want something else."
"Don't let the grass grow under your feet" means "Do something".

Its origins are disputed
As an adjective, OK principally means "adequate" or "acceptable" as a contrast to "bad" ("The boss approved this, so it is OK to send out"); it can also mean "mediocre" when used in contrast with "good" ("The french fries were great, but the burger was just OK"). OK, as an adjective, can express acknowledgement without approval.[3] As a versatile discourse marker or continuer, it can also be used with appropriate intonation to show doubt or to seek confirmation ("OK?", "Is that OK?").[4][2] Some of this variation in use and shape of the word is also found in other languages.[5]
The etymologies of OK
See also: List of proposed etymologies of OK
Many explanations for the origin of the expression have been suggested, but few have been discussed seriously by linguists. The following proposals have found mainstream recognition.[6]
Boston abbreviation fad
The etymology that most reference works provide today is based on a survey of the word's early history in print: a series of six articles by Allen Walker Read[7] in the journal American Speech in 1963 and 1964.[8][9][10][11][12][13][14] He tracked the spread and evolution of the word in American newspapers and other written documents, and later throughout the rest of the world. He also documented controversy surrounding OK and the history of its folk etymologies, both of which are intertwined with the history of the word itself. Read argues that, at the time of the expression's first appearance in print, a broader fad existed in the United States of "comical misspellings" and of forming and employing acronyms, themselves based on colloquial speech patterns:
The abbreviation fad began in Boston in the summer of 1838 ... and used expressions like OFM, "our first men," NG, "no go," GT, "gone to Texas," and SP, "small potatoes." Many of the abbreviated expressions were exaggerated misspellings, a stock in trade of the humorists of the day. One predecessor of OK was OW, "oll wright."[15]
The general fad is speculated to have existed in spoken or informal written U.S.
