  • Here is an onboard lap at the wheel of the Viper GTS-R C51, an intense battle with Joe Macari's Maserati MC12.
    Only 52 Viper GTS-R were built and this one was prepared by Exagon Engineering's Luc Marchetti to the very limits of the FIA GT1 regulation, for the four times World Champion Alain PROST. To celebrate his 50th Anniversary Alain decided to return to racing and entered the French GT Championship, the most competitive national GT1 championship ever with more than 20 cars on the grid. He scored a victory at Dijon and with his son Nicolas in the end of the season, trusted podiums and pole positions. This was the fastest GT1 car that season.
    Art & Revs restored C51 in 2022/23 and sectioned its rebirth by entering it at Le Mans Classic ERL race. Though still fresh from the restoration and not developed the car managed to reach 3rd GT1 position.
    This hot laps are a battle for the 3rd position in GT1.

    That was very impressive driving, he was out braking the car in front and gaining in the corners, which allowed him to set up the pass, driving skills vs technology, I’d say the former dominated. I’d love to do a ride along hot lap with him, probably would be partially freaked out but loving it, like the first time you rode a roller coaster

    They can restrict the Viper all they want, it is still a performance machine. Both cars would be an experience to drive. Awesome view!

      About 630HP ( has to run with restrictors ) and 1190kg ;-)

    What's the rev limiter set to? Sounds like it's around the 7k mark.

    • @iconicracing
      @iconicracing  7 місяців тому +2

      due to the restrictors it doesn't really has power beyond 6000/6200rpms. It is a V10 and not a V8, the firing frequency is higher, so yes it sounds like running at 7500rpm :-)

    What type of sequential gearbox does this VIPER GT1 use?

    • @3PumpChumper
      @3PumpChumper 6 місяців тому

      What I find interesting is he heel/toes the down shifts but it appears to have no-lift shift on the upshifts. I would have thought given the sequential gear box the “blips” would have been done automatically.

    Why did Maserati never take it to Le Mans ?

    • @iconicracing
      @iconicracing  10 місяців тому +3

      Because it was not complying to ACO rules, mainly because it had carbon fiber chassis and not really a production based car.

      @@Kierenstanden-qz7eu The MC12 was a homologation special, meaning it was developed as a thoroughbred race car first and foremost, with a limited production run as an afterthought just to comply with homologation rules, it was essentially an attempt to pull what the likes of Porsche, Mercedes and Toyota did with their GT1 cars in the late 90s (which ultimately killed the class), the ACO didn't want a repeat of that and promptly banned it from LM and the LMS, it did end up racing in FIA GT and briefly in the ALMS but was heavily restricted, it's why it has that ridiculous tiny wing.
