I remember recording this song at Atlantic Studios in NYC . Glenn kept mentioning "To Sir With Love " as a kinda template for the vibe of the song . My recollection is that myself and the band spent a couple days cutting this song and putting overdubs on a song for Roy Orbison " Life Fades Away " . I remember recording organ and doing a ruff mix of "Life Fades Away ' during those sessions . Ill have to look through my dat tapes and dig up the rough mix. An interesting side note is that I was credited as John Lord-Alge ( not Jeff Lord-Alge ) on the record .
Hey, would you be willing to go on camera or audio and answer some questions about this? I'd like to document it!!!
Good shit, man.
Was Rick Rubin there. If so how was it working with him?
Yeah Rick and his assistant George were there . They spent most of the session in the lounge watching wrestling videos for some reason . @@victorgallagher6312
Awesome Jeff. Do you remember if Glenn ever sang Life Fades Away? And do you have this material?
As far vocal performance, this is Danzig at his absolute best.
I agree...❤
Close 2nd easily any of the following: How The Gods Kill. Sistinas. Blood & Tears. Going Down To Die.
Agreed. In the early days he was as good as any of the greats.
What upset me the most about Danzig is that he never had children. Lived a full life, yet nothing to give to someone to carry his legacy.
Always loves Danzig’s vocals both as a solo artist and with the Misfits.
Have this on vinyl
i love this song and danzig singing like a vegas crooner
Insane! Most people don’t know about this song. Rumor is Roy Orbison wrote the song for him and Danzig wrote Life Fades Away for Roy. Not sure how true it is but man what a song! He belts it out !!
I wish I could find this song on Amazon music and add it to my Playlist. People are missing out!
@@d.blackwell6417have you tried UA-cam music? I'm really digging it.
The Evil Elvis. 🥰
I was doing a little comparison of Danzig's voice to the voice of Elvis during this song..and then I saw your comment. I had questions running through my head up until then, but you jmade total sense out of my confusion in just three simple words. Thanks!
@@gregc.9035 Haha, so happy to help!
@@gregc.9035yeah Elvis was a giant influence for Danzig
I think we all agree there needs to be a full album of this!!! Times running out Glenn.
Shades of the Righteous Brothers! Man, I wish he'd go ahead and just do a record of songs in this vein before he retires.
You and me, we were thick
Through the best and worst of it
How I wish it was then
And you were still right here with me
But how can you bring back the dead
And try to tell them you're sorry
How can you live with yourself
Knowing
Got to be your friend again
Forgive me, can't you see me in your darkness
I'm feeling lonely and less than zero
You and me, we were tight
How I miss that feeling now
All our lives, all this guilt
I must feel until the end of time
Oh
But how can you bring back the dead
And try to tell them you're sorry
How can you live with yourself
Knowing
I got to be a friend again
Forgive me, can't you see me in your darkness
Feeling lonely and less than zero
Now, come on, come on, yea
(Got to be a friend again
Forgive me, can't you see me in your darkness
Feeling lonely, less than zero)
You and me
We were
Oh, how could we let our friendship end
All our lives
We were free
We were
Come on, come on, come on, come on, friend
(Got to be a friend again
Forgive me, can't you see me in your darkness
Feeling lonely, less than zero)
You and me
We were
How could we live through sorrow
All our lives
We were free
We were
Woah oh, ooh
Early Glenn is as good as anyone.
This is late Glenn lol early Glenn was the misfits
"All this guilt, I must live it til the end of time"
It's amazing how similar Roy Orbison and Glenn Danzig sound great tune!
Roy, Glenn, and Johnny cash wrote for each other, if I’m not mistaken.
@@williamjones3480 I believe you're mistaken, my friend. Glenn wrote for both, but I don't think either wrote for him. I know Johnny definitely didn't, and I'm pretty sure Roy didn't either.
@@michaelmaclane8877 you may be right. My memory is not what it used to be, but I could’ve sworn at least one of them, Roy or Johnny, wrote for Glenn.
I’m not sure how I could’ve misremembered. Thanks for keeping me honest.
@@michaelmaclane8877 Could be wrong but pretty sure, if my memory is correct Glenn wrote “life fades away” for Roy and Roy wrote this for Glenn.
It was a collab thing, that was my understanding.
@@williamjones3480 Pretty sure you’re right I think Roy wrote this for Glenn and Glenn wrote Life fades away for Roy
Elvis Presley , Roy Orbison with a touch of Morrison.
to sir with love!
Peckerman Jones Actually Glenn wrote this song. Everything else you said is spot on.
I often wonder if Glenn would've stuck to this sort of 50s/60s Righteous Brothers style crooning throughout the 80s. Would he have been a huge crossover star? Not that I don't appreciate his output the last several decades. As he's one of my heroes. Just often think, what if after The Misfits and Samhain, he flowed right into doing stuff similar to Chris Isaak, while keeping a darker edge.
@60sStarchild Glenn wrote a song for Roy Orbison that's on the Less Then Zero soundtrack called Life Fades Away.... If you don't know the song check it out.... Very cool song
I knew he could do this since the first time I heard "Last Caress." I've seen The Misfits when he was in 'em, and Samhain, AND the first "Danzig" tour (when he 1st went AC/DC-Clone) and this is by far my favorite incarnation. Wish he'd have stuck with it...
First of all he's gorgeous
Second his voice almost puts you in a trance😍🖤
OMG this brings back memories. One of my favorite songs of all time. Same with the movie!
If Glenn did songs for the other Robert Downey Jr movies I wouldve watch many more of them besides Less Than Zero and Tropic Thunder..
Danzig fan for decades...just found this song
It's an amazing and often forgotten song. Enjoy
got this soundtrack
@Secundas Try Cold Cold Rain...its bout the closest I have heard.
I wish Glen would do more of this music.
beautiful
Two Sears Towers in the composite skyline... Gotham is closer to Chicago than any other city... A swampland on the verge of a grassland, lawless to an unparalleled degree throughout it's growth and a place where slaughter formed a major pillar of it's foundation. A place which has, unfortunately, gained much of it's position through, rather than in spite of, it's corruption. A place where the strength of good men is proved by the circumstances of their defeat.
+charles jurgus Oh yeah, and the winters...
here's the chords if you're into that sort of thing:
verse: C C D F C C D F C...
prechorus: Ab Db Eb Ab Ab Db Eb Bb...
chorus: Eb Db Eb Ab Eb Db Eb Ab Db
til the end of time...
🖤🖤🖤🖤
Fyi..... Glenn covered Orbisons 🎶 tune and vice-versa. Great swaparoo~banzai. Sweet Soundtrack!
@666666snowwhite This is true, i don't know what made me think it the other way, maybe i was thinkin about 13 that johnny cash covered......all in all, killer tune.
not sure i get the batman picture with this song...
this is basically the first "danzig" band recording, or would have been if eerie had played bass on it. he wasn't happy with the bass arrangement or rick rubin wasn't happy, i cant remember, so someone else played bass on this track....chuck biscuits, john christ and glenn danzig performed it without eerie von, but still an awesome track, roy orbison wrote this song, orbison does a track written by glenn on the "less than zero " sountrack 1987, almost same style as well
Danzig wrote this song, and the Roy Orbison song "Life Fades Away." Danzig wrote a third song for the soundtrack which wasn't used, and eventually ended up being recorded as "Come to Silver."
F yea❤
Any Danzig fan out the know the _actual_ lyrics? In particular, what he howls after "Knowing"? As in:
How can you live with yourself
Knowing... (howls something)
Who's the ultimate Danzig fan? Someone knows what he's singing, there, and NONE of the lyrics online tell you.
Have wondered this for years.
I always *thought* he screamed “KNOWING ….MY MIIIIIINNNNND” but my brain tends to fill in lyrics lol
Knowing nothing indeeeed
nananananananananananananananana BATMAN! hahaha. great fucking song
Ripped off the cassette with a potato?
what the fuck is up with the bat signal homie
Man Glenn was the best, but tore up his damn vocal cords trying to be “heavy”
I miss those ballads like Sistinas, blood and tears. Very Elvis type of vibe in those.
I don’t think danzig will ever be good again, well maybe. If he quits trying to play heavy music that doesn’t match his vocal, get a better producer.
There’s still time
He actually sounds very good in recent performances I've seen, and have you heard his collaboration with Melissa Auf der Maur? It's called Father's Grave, if you like the slower songs without the screaming you'll probably like this.
