    Some of you may have found a new feature in Lightroom-Adapative PROFILES. In this video, I demo them.

    Thanks Anthony. I follow your workflow steps except for one… cropping. I often use another program with my images ( PS, Evoto, Topaz etc). If I send a cropped image to them, I’m stuck with it. If I do my final edits to a nicely cropped 5x7, then the client wants a 8x10 too.… oops.

    Thanks for another great video! Noob question: does the application of profiles possibly give you increased exposure values for certain parts of the image without increasing noise?

    Hi Anthony there are adaptive presets in the preset dropdown in the left panel. Are these different to the new ones that you are showing

    Thanks Anthony. This looks like more than a profile - it seems to be doing the same thing as an auto adjustment. Did the people who received the new version of LR with this feature also get the new enhance noise reduction that maintains the source file and creates a sidecar file?

  • @lapcevics
    @lapcevics Місяць тому +7

    Hm, this is not just a color profile if it's changing exposure? It looks more like some auto edit stuff or something

    • @RonIbarra
      @RonIbarra Місяць тому

      It is an auto-edit profile in a sense. Think of it as a smart profile that gets you started and then you can amend / change from there. The difference here is that its not changing the settings - its adapting that knowledge from the raw file similar to regular profiles. The adaptive part implies that its using an algorithm / ai in the background to interpret each image individually instead of having a preset that is the same for all images.

    Okay - Why did I not know tonal editing a TIFF file provides less room for post-processing adjustments than RAW. I have been following you UA-camrs for years and doing professional portrait photography for years and I am just learning this now? BTW Anthony you are the best - but Wow. Fortunately most of my work is in LR but still I needed to know this a long time ago.

    Thanks. Now i understand why this new adaptive profile is not available in my version of LRC. I am in Europe, so i think i will have to wait some more time. For sure, this feature is available in my camera raw version in photoshope, but i always hesitate to have dng files because they are so big.

    Excellent video! What is the difference between Profiles and Presets?

    • @kruuuber
      @kruuuber Місяць тому +2

      One could describe it as the profile being a recipe instructing how Lr reads the colour data, and a preset is a set of adjustments manipulating that data. A sensible way of going about it is setting the profile early whilst making a starting point, from where you start manipulating using presets - if presets is your desired workflow.

    • @1duesy
      @1duesy Місяць тому +1

      @kruuuber thank you, that makes perfect sense!

    Do you have any thoughts on adaptive profiles versus linear profiles?

  • @eartho
    @eartho Місяць тому

    you can try placing the raw as a Linked SO in Ps, then applying the profile and ACR should save the xmp out to be read by Lr. Still probably won't work, but worth trying!

    This has nothing directly to do with this topic... but this video was awesome for another reason. Maybe you can highlight this in another video or a short, or something.
    I have asked all over the place how to put a raw (DNG) file out of Lightroom and into PS to use in camera raw. Until recently camera raw and LR were at parity, so there was no reason to do it... but with the new reflection remover in camera raw (and now the profiles feature) you might occasionally find a real use to do it. BUT if you do it any way other than how you showed it (smart object, double click the layers panel) it won't work. Camera raw doesn't treat the file as the right format.
    I have asked people all over the place, done google searches until my fingers bled... everyone says you have to export your image out of LR and then load that image as a separate step into PS and then save the image, and import the edited copy into LR (how clunky!). It has been universally stated that what you just did (get the image as raw into camera raw directly from LR) was impossible. I was even laughed at in some places. Thank you for this... you help in ways you don't even intend to!!!!

    • @eartho
      @eartho Місяць тому +1

      this has been possible in one way or another since Lr v1... Linked Smart Objects are how i've always done it, which can save the xmp both ways.

    And, I've just discovered - the TIF files returned from LR can be MEG HUGE ... a 54MB NEF can become a 1.6GB TIF ... yes that's GB !!! I've added several extra steps currently to force a SAVE AS PSD ... then synchonize the folder in LR ... then get rid of the TIF ... lots of steps but it did reduce the 1.6GB TIF to a slightly more manageable 624MB PSD

    Hi Anthony, that is odd, I am from The Netherlands and my Lightroom(Desktop) has many adaptive profiles. In both platforms, also Photoshop (latest )in Camera Raw are the same adaptive profiles? Maybe you missed an update because in the last versions these profiles were aded too... Also I do not need to go to Photoshop for using these profiles? Greetz from Guus

  • @GordonCato
    @GordonCato Місяць тому +4

    You can access it easier by opening the photo in Adobe Bridge then opening camera raw.
