- Why I am using Particle Board for my cabinets and when you should use it.
In this video I talk about using particle board in my cabinets. Wood prices are crazy.
I actually got a metal rack cabinet/frame for my garage..and needed to get some boarding to make the shelves. Ended up buying particleboard 2‘ x 4‘ (that’s what’s needed to fill the metal frames) long to make up the shelves. Didn’t know that particleboard was not very strong. Do you think I could strengthen the particleboard with a thin 8th inch or possibly thicker piece of plywood underneath it? Or should I go and get solid pieces of wood to make up the shelve.
Mark you can strengthen it up by taking a 1x2 piece of wood and screwing and gluing it to the bottom of the shelf.
@@MadNerdWorkshop Great to know! I actually removed all the particleboard and put in three ply plywood. I doubled the plywood on the top shelves where I would be working and I used single three ply pieces of wood on the shelving. I’m actually going to be using the particleboard to build a small desk it will be multirow and I don’t think it will have any issues with strength since it will be stationary
Well , I must be a fool.
Just built 3 "shop" cabinets out of Birch Pre-Finished 3/4" plywood @ $90 a sheet...took 5 sheets. I have 5 more cabinets I will be building for my shop....and yes Birch Pre-Finished Plywood will be used. For me, MDF and Partial Board is only good for gigs...nothing else.
There is nothing wrong with that Zamboni, I prefer to use plywood when ever possible. In my case, I just made a decision to use particle in spots that can't be seen. When I went to buy the plywood and saw the price, I made the decision to use particle board. I just though I share some ideas as to when it is ok to use. Thanks for watching.
