As a controversy, we had lip-sync with Milli Vanilli and later Ashlee Simpson. Auto-tune and heavy filtering to hide the lack of ability of the singers. UTA were totally up-front with their use of AI and it follows the concept of the album. People will get mad at artists for trying something new, for trying to evolve. They will also get mad if you just do the same things over and over again, calling it a cash grab or a lack of talent/imagination. Agree 100% and your comment made me remember Neil Young doing the same in 1982 with his album Trans (1982) especially with the song "Computer World" A big departure from his normal sound. I think as an artist, you're always wanting to be "moving" , never stagnate, moving forward and experimenting. But IF you've been a success to the degree where you have a fan base, that's a razor's edge to try and navigate. Because you don't want to try new sounds or styles that go too far that you alienate your core fans. So I applaud UtA in their journey! And I've listened to all the singles and currently listening to the full album as it's intended to be experienced and gotta say, no complaints from me at all! Sounds and feels amazing, loving the Story/Concept album approach! Well produced and executed! I think it's a perfect addition to their remarkable body of work! 😎🤘

Watching this a few months in the future. Having listened to the new album repeatedly over the last few months, I think it is the equal of Apex and Abyss (which I rate as two of the greatest albums of all time). And I love Human Era as an opener. Just like I loved Waking Dream on Abyss. Leaves you wanting more. My pick of the album is the 3 track sequence Gods In Decay, Give It Up Or Give It All, and Ghosts In The Mist. Those 3 songs cover the core of what I love in loud, guitar-driven music: a melodic rocker, a power ballad, and a head banger. The whole album is excellent though and once again proves just how damned good these guys are as song writers. They write awesome riffs, awesome melodies, memorable hooks, and stitch them together into great songs that you want to listen to again and again and that play in your head while you're doing other things. And they pull it all together with sheer musical talent. I hear Brittney's disbelief that they are a big band, but they absolutely deserve to be. Speaking of disbelief, I'm still in disbelief that a band I discovered via the UA-cam algorithm, but which quickly became one of my very favourite bands actually came and visited us down under. It's one thing for a band with Metallica's resources to come down here, it's another thing for a band like Unleash the Archers to bear the significant cost of coming down here, and I'm very thankful and appreciative that they did. The only disappointment is that I couldn't take my 9 year old daughter along (they're her favourite band too) because the venue they played in Brisbane was 18+. One day maybe.
Haha yeah I think every time we chat I need to remind Brittney they have 30 songs with over a million Spotify streams 🤘 they are growing at a healthy pace, excited to see where they'll go!
They were awesome to see live in New York City a couple years back. I got to the venue a couple hours early to get there in time for the meet & greet and such. The band is so down to earth and friendly people. Grant came out way early and chatted with a couple of us who were in the line. About an hour early it was surreal to see Brittney IRL for the first time walking down the street carrying a box after hearing so many powerful vocals in the albums. Absolutely loving the new album, haven't listened to a new album this many times in a row in a very long time.
I appreciate the little Kurzgesagt reference at 12:48 (along with all the other Easter eggs of course, just thought that one might have slipped past Jasper!)
The video was fantastic! Musical artists using AI for images and video make a perfect use-case. It allows the musicians to focus their budget on what they make and not supplemental media.
UtA's been one of my five favourite modern bands since I first heard them in 2018 or so. As one of my oldest friends said, they make me excited like I haven't felt since we first started really getting into metal when we were kids (mid-80s).
I have sell my soul to rock roll when i heard DIO in 1984. 🙏 And now 2021 i have sell my soul to Unleach The Archers when i heard them first time. 🙏 Gonna see then next summer live in Laukaa, just cant fucking wait for it!!! 😍🥳🍺🤘👍🔥 Thanks for this one. 👏👍🤘
UTA is a very talented, skilled, intelligent, unique, powerful and creative group of artists. Anyone that has an issue with them, their music, or their proper use of AI doesn't know them, has an AI-use chip on their shoulder, or is simply a dunce.

Stoked for release day tomorrow! Enjoyed the interview. Great memories from Vancouver Island metal fest a handful of years back. An epic oldie 'Dreamcrusher' had everyone going nuts. So retire which songs you will; always an epic 8+ minuet banger in there somewhere in the catalogue they can pull out \m/
@@BelgianJasper After a day of listening; I'm digging the trusted 'on the battlefield' tune Blood Empress. Same vein as Ten Thousand Against One, General of the Dark Army. I'm here for it!
It's interesting about the AI topic. She says that she was expecting people to read the description but that seems a bit odd that you would assume that. I mean people mostly use phones to go on the internet these days and when people watch videos they use the full screen mode and when they have something to say they often just go to the comments section and don't read but just type. In fact she says herself that she doesn't read the comments when she goes onto social media. Also when she says that she didn't expect the general hate for AI and then continues to give an example of herself when she's annoyed by AI. Not a slight against her but I think she would admit after thinking about it a little bit more that perhaps she can understand it a bit more then she initially thought.
LOL at the Scott Head cameo. Great interview Britt and Jasper! So much good stuff. Jasper you are lucky to hear the whole album already. I think a lot of UtA fans love this band so much that we think/expect them to grow into the huge band we think they are and deserve to be. So maybe it's a bit of wanting the success to come from your fans, knowing that you are all humble as can be. I for one, can't even imagine any barriers to success that this band can't overcome. I am certain Phantoma is going to be huge. 🤘
Well, the band has definitely proved they can headline mid-size festivals and I have a feeling they'll indeed continue to grow in popularity with this new album! Will you have a chance to see the band on the road this year?
@@BelgianJasper Their current tour plans don't hit the SF Bay Area in 2024, so likely I'll see them in 2025, unless I can swing a road trip to go. I seriously can't wait to see them, though.
UTA = best ever!!! This album took a few complete critical listening sessions for me to truly appreciate how great it really is. While it's different than the predecessors, this album is no less genius than ever. As for some of the critics, they're totally full of it and likely gave a quick once over before forming opinions. Huge mistake. Hoping to see UTA live one day!! Come to Hawaii? Even just to visit? 😅
Well... Tell all your friends to overwhelm your local show promoters with requests for UtA and it'll happen 😉 when they come, what songs do you want them to definitely play?
When Apex came out the album helped me through the loss of my family members and ive never gotten to see it live ... ive been holding on to the dream of seeing UTA Apex live
It's absolutely amazing to see how far this band has come in the past 7 years I have been a fan of them (since Apex). Some of the coolest people you could ever meet, and they never disappoint to put on a good show. They may work a day job still, but to me, they're big in our eyes because of just how they treat their fans. Band to fan interaction is the true life changer. Also, I am completely in shock and awe still almost 2 days later, being one of the two winners of the canvas print from preordering the album. Thanks again for the awesome interview, following up on the one from post Mad With Power 6!
Congratulations on being a winner! Glad you enjoyed this and the previous interview! Lots of UtA content on this channel for you ;) What will you do with the canvas? A special spot in mind?
@@BelgianJasper Thank you! I have watched quite a few of your videos with them! Yes, I plan on putting the canvas on my wall near the special art panel I bought off eBay that was used in the Abyss artwork (for vinyls, it would be Side A of the lyrics sheet, and for jewelcase CDs, it's the liner card behind the CD)
Oh man, I saw UtA twice on their last US tour, and "The Wind that Shapes the Land" was an amazing, intense, crazy song live. The crowds were so into it, it was just nonstop motion and excitement. A shame that has to come off the setlist, despite how understandable it is.
Wind, that shapes the land would be one of the main reasons. I would go to see them live. Apex would be another main reason.I would go to see them live.😢
The "Seeking Vengeance" video had me speechless the first couple of viewings. The Arabian-sounding (to my ears, anyway) intro, all the changes, the visuals, that chorus... It's nice to watch your favourite band level-up😏👍. 2:22 - Aussie tour starts on my birthday🤗!!! Not an Aussie, though😑. 2:43 - 😄 9:13 - Eh? ...I had to google UA-cam science channels😄: Kurzgesagt (www.youtube.com/@kurzgesagt) Regarding the use of AI, too many people lack the intelligence to properly think before they post criticism (or get how a concept album works _or_ read a disclaimer at the beginning of a video) and allow themselves to lose it because of whatever crusade they're already on. Same thing happened with Marvel's Secret Invasion, so the bands in great company. Great interview🤘.
The issue with AI is certain people see the two letters next to each other and lose their minds without ever considering the context. They'll pretend it's about ethics and artists losing out on potential jobs, yet when you point out you licensed art for your project, it falls on deaf ears. People are afraid of what they don't understand and that fear prevents them from *_ever_* understanding it--it's a cycle of ignorance and fear. AI in some form or another has been around for a very long time, we're only just now opening the Pandora's box of generative AI and it isn't ever going to go away. I personally think generative AI is cool as hell. Art, music, etc. Funnily enough, generative AI music has recently rekindled my desire to play guitar and write music (I haven't for nearly a year after some traumatic personal events last July). Interesting that a technology designed to replace me is what has ultimately inspired me again. I'm rambling. Keep kicking ass, Ms Slayes... and harass me if you ever want to do that graphic novel. :P

It’s kind of nuts to think of anyone thinking this band is small potatoes. They’re the reason I got back into metal, period. Listening to other metal is almost just a thing I do in between listening to them.

I don’t mind that they used AI for the video, especially since they cited the and got permission from the artist that gave them the inspiration. Now, if they used AI to write the songs, that’s where I draw the line. Let’s hope that metal artists never let that happen!
The AI backlash is exactly for the reason she brings up that it is suddenly everywhere and people don't want it. So people are already fed up with AI and thus get emotional very quickly on the subject. I personally wish we could put AI back into Pandora's box but I also know it won't happen. In this case with the subject matter itself being AI I think it's OK
When I found out UtA was coming to NZ I think I burst something. And I may or may not have bullied my friend who had never heard of them to go with me. Patience is one of my virtues but man is it stretched waiting for June.

@@nswhorse thank you for sharing all your thoughts! I hope your daughter will get to see them play live soon 🤞 what is her favorite song by the band?
The use of AI in the Green & Glass was such a great a use - they did it correctly and did a great job of it. No fault and kudos!
Great interview! Nice to see a "small Canadian metal band with day jobs" getting that kind of exposure 😂 Reason 12089 why we adore Brittney.
Thanks for sharing that memory! Which song should be their next single?
I appreciate the little Kurzgesagt reference at 12:48 (along with all the other Easter eggs of course, just thought that one might have slipped past Jasper!)
Thank you for spelling it because I didn't recognize it by the pronunciation (cuz I never said it out loud) but yeah, I love that channel too!
🤘🤘🤘
Hung out with her outside of a bar in Brooklyn several years ago. Crazy friendly and even more beautiful in person
Waiting for the band in Brazil! But if possible, I´m going somewhere to see you guys live.
I know the band would love to come to Brazil! What city are you from/close to?
I have sell my soul to rock roll when i heard DIO in 1984. 🙏
And now 2021 i have sell my soul to Unleach The Archers when i heard them first time. 🙏
Gonna see then next summer live in Laukaa, just cant fucking wait for it!!! 😍🥳🍺🤘👍🔥

UTA is a very talented, skilled, intelligent, unique, powerful and creative group of artists. Anyone that has an issue with them, their music, or their proper use of AI doesn't know them, has an AI-use chip on their shoulder, or is simply a dunce.
yea....like AI is talent. wait till Brittney's voice is used without her permission or maybe she uses AI while performing live shows because she is sick. I bet record labels will have a field day with that.
The people who are mad about the AI usage clearly don't understand the message behind the song, and they don’t understand the theme behind the album.
I am a huge fan since I first heard of this band. I am so very glad to see them making major headway into the mainstream mind.
Great interview, Brittney is so willing to talk about everything and she light on the process🤘
Thanks! I've had the privilege of interviewing her quite a few times and she's been very open and honest indeed 👊 what do you think of Phantoma?
*Discovers band recently...decides The Wind That Shapes the Land is his favorite song by the band...watches interview where singers says they will never play it live again.*
Ah shucks... But hey, just wait until the Abyss 20th anniversary show where they'll play the whole album in full 😅
Yeah, what's up with that! Maybe the next tour?
They played it at a show I saw when they came to Atlanta it will forever be my favorite concert definitely unforgettable
That's a great song (and their longest! which is why it gets played so rarely) what's your favorite song on the new album?
@@BelgianJasper After a day of listening; I'm digging the trusted 'on the battlefield' tune Blood Empress. Same vein as Ten Thousand Against One, General of the Dark Army. I'm here for it!
@@BestDraftClass awesome!
Fair points
@@minoo_h I guess the start of the tour in Los Angeles is your easiest bet?

Please put out a live dvd. It will sell big!! Film it in Michigan if you can!! WE LOVE YOU HERE!!!
Live album/dvd will probably be the next thing that comes out (just my guess)
What is the name of the “science” UA-cam channel she mentioned?

UTA = best ever!!! This album took a few complete critical listening sessions for me to truly appreciate how great it really is. While it's different than the predecessors, this album is no less genius than ever. As for some of the critics, they're totally full of it and likely gave a quick once over before forming opinions. Huge mistake. Hoping to see UTA live one day!! Come to Hawaii? Even just to visit? 😅
Well... Tell all your friends to overwhelm your local show promoters with requests for UtA and it'll happen 😉 when they come, what songs do you want them to definitely play?
@@BelgianJasper from the past... Call Me Immortal

Glad you like it What do you think of the singles that have been released so far?
@@BelgianJasper Seeking Vengeance actually might be my new favourite from their entire catalogue. I'm very much looking forward to the album.
@@Shinigami_19891 that's awesome!
What is the "AI controversy"? I don't get it. What did they do?
Long story short: some of the album's artwork, some lyrics, and the first music video were created by AI causing some people to complain

Oh man, I saw UtA twice on their last US tour, and "The Wind that Shapes the Land" was an amazing, intense, crazy song live. The crowds were so into it, it was just nonstop motion and excitement. A shame that has to come off the setlist, despite how understandable it is.
It's too bad indeed, but we'll have many cool new songs in the set!

I will be at that Victoria show and it's my first time seeing them live. I'm ecstatic!!
That's awesome, you'll have a great experience! What song are you looking forward hearing most?
The "Seeking Vengeance" video had me speechless the first couple of viewings. The Arabian-sounding (to my ears, anyway) intro, all the changes, the visuals, that chorus... It's nice to watch your favourite band level-up😏👍.

9:13 - Eh? ...I had to google UA-cam science channels😄: Kurzgesagt (www.youtube.com/@kurzgesagt)
Regarding the use of AI, too many people lack the intelligence to properly think before they post criticism (or get how a concept album works _or_ read a disclaimer at the beginning of a video) and allow themselves to lose it because of whatever crusade they're already on. Same thing happened with Marvel's Secret Invasion, so the bands in great company.
Great interview🤘.
Glad you liked the interview! If not in Australia, will you be able to catch them on tour somewhere?
@@BelgianJasper No, I'm in South Africa. I'm sure they'll come here at some point, though - even Maiden came here, eventually😄.

@@BelgianJasper 🤘
Looking forward to seeing them at the Time To Rock Festival in Sweden in July.
Oh that festival looks so good! What bands will you check out besides UtA?
I wonder if the novel "WE" by Zamyatin has been an influence for Phantoma ?
Great question! I'll definitely check with Brittney 👍

When did you discover them?
UTA is one of my top 5 favorite bands, they are far more talented than 99% of the bands who get radio time and fame. I dont consider them a small Canadian band at all. I don’t mind that they used AI for the video, especially since they cited the and got permission from the artist that gave them the inspiration. Now, if they used AI to write the songs, that’s where I draw the line. Let’s hope that metal artists never let that happen!
I don't think AI is at a place yet where you can pump out decent songs with it, at least not that I've seen. A lot of it comes out pretty generic.
Seeking the Vengance is soo catchy, you can sing it whole day
And I promise you: it's not even the catchiest one on the new album ;) did you preorder your copy of Phantoma?
The AI backlash is exactly for the reason she brings up that it is suddenly everywhere and people don't want it. So people are already fed up with AI and thus get emotional very quickly on the subject.
I personally wish we could put AI back into Pandora's box but I also know it won't happen. In this case with the subject matter itself being AI I think it's OK
