Working breed dogs have lots of energy and they’re good for the owner who likes to be challenged to be physically fit! If you’re a couch potato, a Belgian Malinois isn’t for you. They’re a special dog for the special person who can appreciate them. 😊

@@jamieoliver3262 Yah. I was one... well my ex gf was. We raised her in an appartment building. We made sure we had schedules which lined up so someone was always home and took her out 3 times a day.
She was great about it. We actually had to force her to go downstairs to pee in the mornings.
Like I said if the owner is there giving them attention they're fine, but there were tons of issues like trying to crate train her and she somehow sneaked out of the cage everytime... We couldn't even figure out how. She'd just be on the couch when we got back sleeping.... so we got rid of the crate and had no issues with chewing any destruction.

Amazing dogs for sure. Coincidentally, I just read an article in the WS Journal that a Belgian Malinois was used in the successful search and find of 4 children who were on a small plane that crashed in the Amazon jungle recently. Apparently the dog (“Wilson”) darted off into the wilderness after the rescue. He was last seen by soldiers last week. The soldiers said that despite being a dog Wilson is a commando, and a commando never leaves another behind. Say a prayer they find him!

As some comments already said: get one of these dogs ONLY if you are very fit, very active everyday and have plenty of time and space. I have had three German shepherds, I love them, but now that I am older and less active, I got some smaller breeds that I can manage. A dog is a daily commitment for at least a dozen of years. Think fitness, time, space, money and vacations.

This video was almost as much fun as your day at the pool with 150 retriever dogs. Anneka being savaged Maligators is priceless, yet through out the fun you managed to get an important message out again. How much work it is to be a responsible dog owner, and the need for dog owners to pick the right breed for themselves and their lifestyles. Not go with what is trendy and cool and looks good. Otherwise the dogs can end up in pretty bad situations and finish up in shelters or euthanized. Nice job as usual Anneka and Animal Watch!

If I were a breeder I would only sell to some one who has trained dogs previously, and understands the socialization needs of a working breed before getting a dog like this.
They have very different needs than most breeds. People just see the end result, a dog flying through the air...
They are very sensitive and need thorough training from early on. Your alarms and calendar will just be "puppy" to get the reward of what you see in vidoeos.

I share your pain. 28 years with a phychopathic narcissist with her full repertoire of abuses like verbal abuse, mental and emotional abuse, physical abuse and financial abuse. They are very vindictive and destructive people. It drove me to the point of suicide and I was later saved by the police. I have always been physically strong, but today I'm mentally and physically strong. You are such a beautiful spirit, I dont know how anyone could treat you that way.
Dogs are my love as well. Unconditional love.
When I was going through depression, also after divorcing my ex, lots of dogs on walks with their owners would walk or run up to me and give me cuddles. I lost count of the number of owners who said to me "we have never seen our dog behave like this before with strangers". Dogs can sense "depression". I knew exactly what they giving me lots of love. God bless.

Some people have to go to work throughout the day to pay their bills & feed the dogs ! Not everyone can sit home 24-7 or take their dog to work everyday & a dog should be 100% comfortable being home for a while. Especially if the dog is trained & has a "job" to do while the owner is working.. My wife's mostly home throughout the day. But, she also has a life & sometimes has to leave for a couple hour's. If she does, my dogs are guarding the house and property and are completely happy to be able to do their job! They also have each other to play with so they aren't "alone" .. There's also plenty of apps these days where you can monitor your home & dog and even speak to them if needed right from your phone !

@@davidfrye7713 All kinds actually.. Grew up on a ranch with all kinds of different working breeds & have always owned them myself. Pitbulls, Mals, Dutch Shepherds, GSD, Rottweilers, mixtures and livestock dogs.. and you're right, there ARE breeds that are better suited to being home alone! My point was, Just because someone may have an actual job & need to work during the day or night, doesn't mean they CAN'T own a Mal or other working breeds... Mals themselves are SUPER trainable and depending where you get the dog & WHAT it was bred for, it could easily be a companion/house dog... I know a couple people who have them, work job's and the dogs completely fine while it's home. Because THEIR dogs, weren't specifically bred to be insanely high drive and anxious all day. Now, if you go get one specifically bred to work nonstop and protect/track, whatever, yes! You'll likely have issues trying to leave it alone..

I just got my first Belgian and I hate all the stereotypes that exist…. I grew up with tons of retrievers and popular breeds and I disliked them all. The retrievers are hard to train/males have behavioral issues and they are rambunctious. Small breeds are mostly yappy little things that are also temperamental. I could go on and on and now all I see are the doodles and I just roll my eyes with the amount of outrageous energy these dogs have, and how much they jump and don’t listen that well…… plus now that they are super popular the kids are starting to get bit by them quite a lot……
I know I may be offending some people, and I’m not trying too….. I look for certain aspects within a breed such as intelligence, adaptability, loyalty, recall, temperament with children, etc. so just bc I may not like golden retrievers or think they are really that great, doesn’t mean they wouldn’t be great for your needs or wants.
Anyhow, I quit listening to ppl after having multiple dogs that I wasn’t completely satisfied with. I kept them until they met their demise, but anytime I mentioned other breeds everyone would say “have you seen the videos?” “Are you nuts?” “Those dogs aren’t pets!” Eventually I said I’m done and spur of the moment bought my very first Siberian husky. I was waiting for him to turn to a big green monster and destroy my house while screaming like a little girl and to never want to step foot inside my house and to dig, run away, and destroy my house. A week went by, and nothing. Another week, nothing…… then I came to the conclusion that ppl are wrong! Per usual. My Siberian husky is one of the best dogs I’ve ever owned! He’s super calm, crazy intelligent, great with my babies, digs in his sand box, and is just everything a golden retriever is supposed to be but way nicer and calmer lol. He does run off leash, but guess what?!? He comes back!! I’ve learned that the siberians are very loyal dogs and really only bond with certain people, plus they own the independence of a wolf. So if you don’t gain the respect of your Siberian husky, then they are smart enough and brave enough to escape and run away. And their loyalty is why they don’t do well when rehomed I’ve found these dogs don’t like change very well and they are incredibly sensitive
Now the Belgian. Again, I was advised against it. Everyone told me they are only meant for the military and aren’t good as pets. Well I got mine. She was so easy to train. I socialized her, and she is great in public. She does love to chew, but my labradors chewed more than my Belgian ever has…… she likes her toys, and she is an excellent athlete. But she is also one of the best dogs I’ve ever had. Belgians want to please you, so much so they are almost like a zombie. Yes, she is high energy, more so than a German shepherd, but she’s trainable, great tempered, and she is happy within our active household. I don’t believe these dogs would do well in a crate or left alone for hours each day, and given a small yard to just stroll in every once in a while or chained up to a dog house or in a kennel…… but then again no breed does well within those conditions.
I will say ibe also had two German shepherds and the reason why I got a Belgian and not another GS is bc of the inability to tell the future. My 1st was amazing, but my 2cd was a nut case. We hired so many trainers, one even trained police dogs in Ohio and took her for a month and she still didn’t do well…, why? They were bred for many things that isn’t suitable for family life such as herding….. so they have many triggers. They can’t help it it’s in their blood, just like a lab is meant to retrieve. It’s in their blood. And bc GS have so many different lines and so much bad breeding…… I didn’t know really what I was getting. My 2cd was strictly working line, my first was a big long haired one that was bred to be a pet. My 1st was amazing, but now that I have small children I didn’t want to take the chance of having another nutty GS……..
Look if you want a Belgian, and are active person, and if you really feel like you could train, socialize, and keep them energized then get one!!! Otherwise don’t let these scare tactics scare you! Don’t think you’re not good enough!!!
Truth be told, most ppl who claim these dogs aren’t for everyone, is bc the ppl who didn’t do well with these dogs probably wouldn’t have done well with most dogs! Some ppl don’t want the responsibility but can’t afford a lazy mastiff to just chain up in their yard. They get what looks the best and fail miserably. But it’s not the breed, it’s the people. The people didn’t train, walk them, socialize them, etc…….
Sorry for long comment, but it’s these types of videos that scared me away from having my dream dogs! And it took me 15 years before I got the courage to finally get a Siberian husky and another 4 years after to now have my Belgian!
Another funny perspective is most ppl who breed these dogs in my eyes are terrible
Dog owners. Most either live in farms where the dogs run wild, or they are kept in kennels. Very rarely do you have a regular suburban or country person breeding dogs at a high magnitude who keeps their dogs as house pets like the regular population. Most puppies are kept in kennels or outside until 8-12 weeks of age. Even when I dropped my GS off to that expensive trainer who trained police dogs, he had kennels everywhere!!!! The dogs are mostly kept in those kennels and are only
Out to train or work. So plz tell me, who has more of a right to own or keep these dogs? The active suburban house wife with 5 acres who actually want them as a family pet, or the police officer who works them and keeps them 6 hours in a vehicle and then sleeps in a kennel? Only out to train or work? I dk just food for thought

He was bred for and trained in the British military program but failed to make the grade , he was then given to a narcissist and chained , beaten and starved by him. I met the narcissist and was told about my mals history and he had me believe that he was aggressive and out of control because of the military. The narcissist was charming and I fell for it through love bombing and gaslighting and we started seeing each other. I now realise that the only reason I met this bloke was to save my boy . I soon started to see the abuse , I was getting it and so was the dog , kicked in the ribs with size 11s then paraded about occasionally to brag. Poor tormented boy didn't know where to turn , I had to get him away from it all , but had to earn his trust first. 2 years on and we are both diagnosed with PTSD, we are getting through life together, just me and the maligator, one day at a time . He's learnt that I'm his human and this means, love , trust, respect, fun, food , shelter, boundaries and rules and he's a different dog . He's able to have self control now and is a very sociable boy , it took him time to learn to trust men but now he has 4 of my male pals he trusts . Best breed of dog ever , smart , loyal and protective. He still enjoys the bite work, problem solving and blasting around the farm , up and down the hay bales at 9 years old , he's very fit . Everyone who has PTSD needs one , they get you through, such intuitive, sentient beings. I hope you heal from the abuse lovely, nobody deserves a narcissist, apart from other narcissists. One ❤ and one ❤ to the Mals ❤ Gals with mals lol

Thank you for sharing your story! Narcissistic people are the worst! I worked for one! But he messed with the wrong one. His gaslighting and manipulation did not work on me! Glad that you were able to get away, and your dog are doing great. Anneka, thank you for being open about this on your channel. I know it's not easy. Shows everyone what an incredibly powerful and intelligent person you are. Love all your episodes! So informative and educational. Your channel gave great advice before I obtained my Siberian Husky on one of your episodes about them. I researched the breed extensively before getting one. They are loving, affectionate, stubborn, and loyal. But not for everyone. You see so many of them at shelters and rescues, because some people can't deal with the breed once the cuteness wears off.

@@waltervega8730 thank you Walter 😊. They are the worst . Since my encounter another narcissist tried but I'd done too much research online and equipped myself well and shut that one down straight away, my narc detector is tip top and so is my mals, I trust his better than my own 😆. I feel the same about Anneka. Siberian huskies are beautiful 😍. You have your woluf and I have mine . Take care.

I rescued a dog 5 weeks ago. He was about 8 weeks old, malnourished, dehydrated, anemic from the 1000's of fleas. He spent the night at the hospital, went to 2 vets and Ive been nursing him back to health ever since. He was mostly black, I was told his mother is a border collie but now hes 12ish weeks old with a black face, black legs and tail and a cool black stripe going down his back... hes a Malinois and border collie, I work 12 hour days. We are bonded so I need to find an activity we can do that will spark his brain and tire him out. I love the term Maligator... it fits!!

I have two Malinois' and they are bundles of energy. They are very athletic and require lots of attention, socialized and training. They are not a good dog for beginners or neglectful. Aggression training should not be done to ANY dog but especially not a Malinois.

    • @heide-raquelfuss5580
      @heide-raquelfuss5580 9 місяців тому

Aggression training is indeed nefast. People who train them that way are playing with a projectile and later accidents happen and they end up often in shelters or being euthanized ( after duties ).
I never trained him, like i see on youtube and dog schools for police/military/protection dog.
I had to un-train my beautiful 6 month old dog for years, to make of him a more normal house dog ( still...not able to go anywhere in public ). I had to protect literally his life from being euthanized, so i had to avoid many places. But he was so loving towards me and would of protected me with his life, so i had to avoid from situations where he would act that way. I had to protect him, from a society who put dogs down easaly.
He was the love of my life and i lost him in a cruel way at almost 14 years old, due to my mother who gave him food he was not alowed to eat and vets who where idiots.
I will never ever forgive people for this. He did not deserve the suffering and forced euthanasia.
I thought he would die of old age in his sleep, not like this. I feel lost and can't cope. He was the best dog ever😢

Now I really miss my Malinois. Actually, a guy once tried to snatch my purse. My Malinois just grabbed his arm and his white sleeve turned red. When I asked the dog to let go, the guy ran, leaving a trail of blood with an arm hanging loose. Never heard from him. Seems like illegal criminals do not seek medical attention. They just rather die under the radar.

Sorry you’re going through that I know about narcissists, they are clinically insane under developed brain gray brain matter which gives us the ability to love and feel remorse. Narcissist feel no love, and no remorse impossible for them. There’s no cure for them only treatment if they acknowledge that they have a problem most narcissist, live in a make-believe world, best course of action, no contact with a narcissist, and allow God to heal you appreciate your videos. God bless.

Sorry to hear about your divorce. He's obviously out of his mind. I love watching your channel and just subscribed. I've had 3 GSD'S in the past and now have a 2 year old male Malinois. Dogs are great therapy IMO...they always love you no matter what! Malinois are extremely sensitive dogs...they can really tell how you're feeling and you have to be careful and fair when you correct them. These dogs can't be left at home for a long period of time unless you tire them out first with a good hour of exercise. You really need a large backyard for them to thrive as well...just daily walks aren't enough...they need to run at full speed and love playing fetch and tugging toys as well. Cheers!!!
