With the benefit of hindsight of course, I wonder what Churchill and these men would think and how these words would reflect the world that they helped shape if they could do so now.

This film clip is a bit misleading. Churchill was addressing the 1st Canadian Division in August 1944, prior to the 'Gothic Line' battles. The 1st Canadian Division included the British 25 Tank Brigade consisting of the North Irish Horse, 51 RTR, 142 Regt and 145 Regt, so there are many British tank personnel in this film. My father was there with 145 Regt and he described this as the only time that he ever saw Churchill, "when he addressed us all". There are some Sherman tanks visible along the skyline in the film, but the British regiments were equipped with Churchill tanks. At the start of the film there is visible in the background a row of personnel carrying trucks, so it seems likely that the men were brought to this event in those trucks, and only a limited number of Sherman tanks were present.
