Thank you for the kind words, Chris! This is just ONE area of PT and a therapist who works in the hospital setting, with sports, with neurological patients, etc. will look DRASTICALLY different than my home health days. Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video! I work as a home health PT (Medicare B) in Manhattan and I have everything I need in a hiking bag 😅 I use public transportation ( city bus , bike, subway) and walk A LOT to see patients (10 block radius). I see between 6-8 patients in a day. It’s New York minute every work day! All the best!

Home health is one of the few settings in physical therapy that pays us what we deserve! Good luck with the process.

You are awesome! I am actually about to do home health as PRN but was given so little time to learn especially the documentation. I dont have home health experience. This helps boost confidence. I am going to have my own patients in 3 days and Im anxious and nervous on how my day will go.

Tony Do Thank you. I am currently studying at the UK. I really like physiotherapist, its just like I am studying but at the same time I having fun 😂 especially for the practical sessions, which I find time flies every time 😂.
Rt I figured you weren’t in the United States as you addressed it as physiotherapist like the rest of the world. The United States I believe is the only country that refers to it as straight physical therapy lol. Well keep at it man!

Rt Rt just about anything I want to create topics about! Lifestyle/vlogs/fitness/tech/physical therapy/education etc. I found that when I try to have too much of a specific niche I get burnt out of doing it and it’s no longer fun for me.

Hello, awesome video. Could you perhaps clarify how to compute your pay rate for different types of visits using HH's point system? Is there a math calculation involved with this? I hear folks discussing 1, 2, and 2.5 points. What does this mean, exactly? Do you have any resources that you could share?

Insane to see how far you’ve come man, OG T.do follower here, in the middle of my first year at PT school at USC! Congrats on graduating and you make home health seem desirable! Did you have any interest in acute care ortho or even sports rehab?
I did like my acute care rotation! I had plenty of outpatient/sports rehab experience during my clinicals too and I enjoyed my time but am SO happy I am not stuck in an office all day seeing patient after patient after patient.

New grad PT here. I loved your "feel good" session talk. I too feel home health will be extremely rewarding. I'm hoping to get a job but most HH agencies require at least 1 year of experience! I cant wait to work in HH :)
In most cases all the agencies will list they require that but if you can justify why you think your experiences to date will allow you to do well in HH you’ll be fine. I had no prior HH experience.
@@TonyDo interesting, I was a CNA (certified nursing assistant) and worked in HH for 2 years. I bet that will look great!
@@Rosalieburke yup! Any acute care, geriatric, or inpatient experience during clinicals? If so those will do just fine too.

Home health average rates will vary based on region so do some research there.
Then you want to go direct to agency vs utilizing a staffing company (middle man) essentially to maximize rates. For negotiation make sure you're knowledgeable on PDGM and explain WHY you should get those higher rates. Feel free to DM me on Instagram or email for a more in depth conversation, but i'd start there and see what agencies are around you / what PT's on average there get.

Did you need work experience before you could get your HH job? I’ve heard HH agencies look for experienced therapist
No prior home health experience. Home health was my first job out of school.
Most jobs will have that written… apply anyways!

Yes! Though, it is easier now than the timing of this video due to Covid.
Do you think it would be beneficial to wait 1-2 years before starting as a HHPT? In terms of increasing your clinical knowledge or skills before heading solo?
Yes and no. Home health has such a steep learning curve to it that it’s tough regardless of experience. Increasing clinical knowledge will help in certain instances, but at the the same time I feel like when you’re in a specific setting for x amount of time your mind just naturally gravitates towards that way of thinking and approach. That can both be helpful and a hinderance if that makes sense.
I think more importantly what’s important for home health is being organized, fwd thinking, personable, resourceful, adaptable, and being able to juggle numerous things at once.
Good to see u back man! I was actually looking into go forward in my career and PT was one of my choices and the other was RN. In your opinion, which would be quicker to accomplish?
Assuming you’re in the United States RN is for sure faster as that’s a 4 year process vs the DPT is a 7 year process.

Thank you for sharing your experience! I would love work as a home health PTA. I’m not sure if you answered this in the video but do you work 40 hrs? Are you guys always on call? Just curious
PTA's are definitely needed in home health! As for the 40 hours... i'd say on an average week with everything factored in between driving, phone calls, seeing patients, documentation, team coordination, meetings, and scheduling I clock in 40-50 hours/week. Something to keep in mind is that I also see 20-30% above productivity expectation on most weeks.

Hello! Can I ask how much you make? I see your paperwork takes a long time so I am trying to figure out if you get paid for that or only when your with the patient?
I'll make a separate video about physical therapy salaries soon. For my company I get a flat fee for the visit with the patient and everything that entails (driving, seeing the patient, documentation, phone calls, etc.)
My school currently doesn’t have the actual physical therapy major but im majoring in recreational therapy to get accepted into the physical therapy program . Is this a good idea ?
Assuming you’re in the United States, yes physical therapy is not a major as it is a post bachelor progressional graduate program. You can major in anything so long as you have the pre requisite classes completed as well that PT programs require. Good luck!

Soon to be DPT graduate here, considering HH PT. I know that it varies per company, but what are the rates you’re compensated for start of care visits, evaluations, follow ups, discharges? Or are you salaried or hourly? Thanks in advance!
Company dependent but it’ll vary highly. Just make sure you work for a home health agency directly vs a staffing home health company who essentially are middle men and take a cut of the pay. Join home health mentor group on Facebook for info and answers to your questions.

Tony I’ve been told my lower spine is pinching my nerve so its causing pain in my right quad.
I have reoccuring tightness and cant run or walk like normal. I tried stretching and stuff but its been months now. Do you have any input on what else I can do?

Extention laying on my stomach, Cat and camel, Lying on my back with bent knees and twisting left to right, and hip raises. Its better now but I cant run and walk straight howver i can hike at an incline.
TheDream don’t take this as solid advice as I’d have to evaluate you to do so, but based on your description of what aggravates it I would avoid doing anything extension based for your back and focus more on flexion based stretches/exercises.

For a SOC 1.5 to 3 hours in the home...? Not a chance
Huh? What’s your experience been then? My personal experience as well as many I speak to it’s usually 1-1.5hrs in home and then an extra 30-45 to finish documentation depending on how efficient you are.
If I said 3 hours in home in the video then that was done in error. 3 hours TOTAL for the whole process.
Do you recommend home health as a new grad??
Yes I do! Steep learning curve logistically but if your agency has a good on boarding/training program you’ll be good to go. From a patient standpoint if you’ve done anything lower level than outpatient during clinicals you’ll be fine.
