great review braydon! always been a big fan of your content, and am excited to see your channel grow. i love the editing work that was put in this video as it really elevates the entertainment piece of your content. i did feel like the intro was a little too long for me with there being over 20 seconds of paddle edits. i think about 10 seconds or so would be the sweet spot for you moving forward for viewer enjoyment/engagement. super excited for you and your new studio moving forward!
Hope there aren't any QC issues like the version 1 line. I'll stick with my Pro Pwr E and the weight set up I'm using. Static at 9.23oz. 5.5gm at 9&3 and 6gms and 4&8.
Another great review Braydon… As an Ultimate paddle player for the last 2/3 weeks I would say that I’m having so much fun with this paddle and I totally agree with all your insights 🫡 I was using the Pro Control Elongated (I didn’t like the Pro Power) and this one is the perfect balance for my game style
Another great video man, keep up the good work! 💪 Just got mine a few days ago, and I’m using a slightly different setup than yours: 2 grams down on the handle, 4 grams on each side of the throat. Loving it so far! I noticed John Kew has a similar weight setup to yours where you wrap the handle 3 times. Do you feel like moving the balance point that far down diminishes your plow through on drives? I tried it after watching his video, but felt like I wasn’t getting as much power from the baseline (and maybe that would change as the paddle breaks in more?).
Your set up essentially accomplishes the same thing as mine and then it’s just a matter of what feels more natural to you. I didn’t feel like I lost any power or plowthrough with the set up I had.
The swing and twist weights are what kill it for me. They really need to make a 16x8 shape of this. If it can have comparable power/pop and have a 115 SW and 6.5 TW, it would be a winner. Also, Braydon you should list the balance point as a percentage...a random number in millimeters doesn't really convey what it means. Just a suggestion!
Apparently they changed the layout of their core in the edges so you will have a similar feel when hitting the middle to hitting more of the outer part of the paddle. If this is true, I don’t think twist weight is a big indicator on the overall sweet spot of the paddle.
I wish you would have mentioned the changes that the pro power models experience that have been discussed by other reviewers. Chris O. covered it in "Gearbox Pro Power Updated Review". That one is all over the map, whether it's break-in or brok-EN. So for the new one, this is something that customers should be made aware of.
There’s objective isolated metrics and then there is how all the metrics and unmeasurable factors come together while playing. Everyone should know you can still have fast hands with this sledgehammer, but you need the muscle for it. Every opportunity to drive or serve puts a smile on my face. The plow through is solid and the vertical sweet spot is generous. I go back and forth with the Ultimate and azul for my main. Love the way the ultimate feels when making contact. My elbow and forearm agree the swing weight can be a pain, and possibly painful. $20 to demo and highly recommend everyone to give it a try. If you’re like me you’ll be surprised how much more rounded and easier to play with it is than what the numbers suggest
Love this comment. The metrics are nice to know, but they rarely tell the whole story. Thanks for sharing your experience with the paddle, it's good to hear multiple views.
One question, you added a lot of weight to the and tip side of the handle, but I see your swing weight has more increased. Why is that? As the balance point goes down, I was expecting to see less swing weight...
Adding weight to the handle like I did will only change the static weight and balance point, not the swing weight. Adding the weight to the sides and adding the edge guard tape to the top is what increased the swingweight so much. If you don’t use the edge tape on the top then that will knock it down 2-3 points.
@@pickleballeffect Thanks, I had errata "and tip side of the handle" this should be "end tip side of the handle". Anyway, thanks for your explanation. But my interest is slightly lower the swing weight to help better hand speed at the NVZ line while doesn't sacrifice drive power that much. I was thinking that adding weight to the handle end lower the balance point, which would lower the swing weight. What would be the way to decrease the swing weight?
@@pickleballeffect Is it overall better buy than pro power and pro control? Have been playing with control pro from last few days and lovign it. And someone shows up with this 16mm paddle. Generaly I love 16 mms but I am surprised how powerfull 14mm paddles can be. I still feel like these paddles have less control over other 16mm Raw carbob traditional paddles like vatic pros. I alos feel like these are more like fancy paddles. Any good player with decen good Selkrik control paddles will beat palyers playign with GB power models. So far I have not seen the power of GB in any other paddles. but control? uyk..In my experience control always wins over power in pickleball. playing under pressure in tournament I had to switch back to my vatic pro for more control. ANother guy playing with power pro was hitting every singleball out. He plays good generally.
Demo'd one today. Definitely not suited for my game. Rarely found the sweet spot...and when I did the ball catapulted with little control. Its a pass for me.
No question there are a ton of good options under $200 but if you want the big power paddles then they are all still above $200 for now. I imagine that will change overtime as the big power tech gets picked up by all the factories.
What a dope video!! I’m really tempted by this paddle! Great work! Your production quality just jumped 10x!

Thanks for following along and for the feedback. I’ll keep fine tuning these with my new editor.
Dude been loving this music in the intro!

Nice, glad to hear we had a similar experience with it.
The final clip of Kyle with the sound effect killed me 🤣
AUUUUUUGHHHHH
thanks braydon for great review, just wondering how does this compare to perseus/hyperion 16mm, pop, power, control ?
More power and pop than the Hyperion. The extra pop makes it harder to control but the impact feel of the gearbox is more pleasant.
Now comparison to the mod ta 15 that’s the real question
Another great video man, keep up the good work! 💪

I liked the balance point graphics!
Love the playtest part. The GB's SW shocked me and my friend's HUDEF Viva Pro Gen3's SW was only 120.

Do you plan on reviewing the re released Gen 3 joola?
Yes, I finally got them coming to me today but I’ll share some thoughts once I get them and potentially do a bigger review.

Thanks for your sharing. I have a HUDEF Viva Pro Gen3. Haven't tried a edgeless paddle yet, but this one's a little expensive.
Sick intro

Great video brother.
Me missing the dink is the best part of this 😂 hahaha
GB gotta offer coupons. No one should have to roll the dice on one of these at full retail.
Between this and control pro gearbox which is more forgiving
The Ultimate

Mine at 8.9 oz. Added weight under the butt Cap. Will add hesacore so maybe at 9.2

Swing weight and balance point went the wrong way……they did the same thing with their last Ultimate.
Did Gearbox forget to make an integra model?
I hope they make this in their quad shape cuz that would be more appealing to a bigger audience. A bit niche as is.
I will say I’ve never played with a GB but…with soooo many good options under $200 I’m not really tempted to try 😅
I give them credit for the engineering, but they're not worth $280.

Those paddles will last 3-6 months. Gearboxes don’t break and will last a year
Auuugggghh
Auuugggghh uniiiite !
Aight the intro just hit. Really? Really really 🎵🎶
Someone needs to give kyle a raise
Aaron is the one editing these badass reviews!
8.9 oz. It's too heavy.😂
heavy and slowwww
