I put 3-6g on the very top just because it’s not super forgiving in the beginning! Once it opens up I’ve actually been playing with it stock and it feels nice
GBPPE has always been in my bag. For sure getting the HYPER at some point. Would be my 6th GB. Break in time is easy for me since I have a ball machine and 200 old balls that are hard as rocks. 4-5 hundred drives in a row and I'm sure the HYPER will change from outta the box. Will hold off to see if there are any QC issues on the new tech.
@@panamaslim595 Since I've never played any of the "control" versions, really can't comment. My first GB was the G7 in 2016, then G5, CX11, CX14, and now the PPE.
Great review - did you add weight to this paddle at all? 110 SW leaves lots of room for that, would the fact that this is edge less cause any issues with tungsten strips adhering to the sides of the paddle? THANKS!
Great questions - I did temporarily add tape to the top of the paddle to mitigate the stiffness in the beginning then took it off as the sweet spot opened up No issues with any tape whatsoever despite the edgeless design!
Awesome video and review! High quality content as usual. I know you can’t say if gearbox is coming out with a pro power hyper 😅 But if you had to compare/choose between the paddletek esq 12.7m and gearbox’s hyper shape options, what would you choose and why? I’m not including Ronbus ripple r2 just because of concerns of decertification. Also no idea on crbn trufoam or pb apes incoming power series. I’ve been playing with my current paddle for 6 months and want to make the change, just don’t want to spend a bunch of money and regret my decision. I’m not in a rush to switch yet haha
You sound super in tune with what’s out there! To be brief after the break in the Hyper has that traditional Gearbox feel like it plays the game for you on the soft shots. The ESQ hits almost as hard but has much more shot feedback (so not as plush) and plays very consistent although the sweet spot isn’t very forgiving. I would lean Hyper for the power although it’s close bc I also like the longer handle of the ESQ that’s pretty important to me. We’ll see about the Ripples! If the Mod TA 15s are still legal I don’t see why this wouldn’t be so far…
i would like to know or see a comparison with this paddle and the Scorpeus.......i play against the latter paddle and can hear and see the difference in spin and power compared to playing other people with different paddles.....the pop off of these Joola paddles is sometimes overpowering and frustrating but also, I know they hit balls out a lot if I can get out of the way of the power drives
Noted this seems to be a popular request! Might have to make it happen. For what it’s worth I believe the Hyper is more forgiving (after break in) and powerful. Scorpeus is more poppy and better for defensive blocks and resets. Both have comparable spin. Hope that helps!
Great review as always! When I asked a while back You said you’ve been maining the beta ripple r2. Will the new production r2 be in running now? Or does this new hyper gearbox take the main spot? And what about apes pulse V? Would love to see you do a comparison of beta vs production ripples and maybe a hybrid sort of comparison as well including the r1 and the new invader
I’ll have full thoughts soon! The production models do feel different and I believe Dec 6 is the target release date so I’ll do a comparison then. Just so far for me personally I dig the new power paddles so Pulse V is at the bottom of this comparison but I know PB Apes is releasing a power series soon too 👀
Thanks for the comprehensive review of a paddle I've very interested in. Much appreciated! One question about the Swing Weight. Your Hyper's SW of 110 is the lowest I've seen from the various reviewers. Others are in the 113-115 range. And while your SW is much lower than the others, your static weight is similar. Just based on this scant info, it would appear that the 110 SW is an outlier. Can you verify this with Gearbox? Thanks!
Good question I’ve seen that too and from what I was told they intended the SW to be 109-112 so I obviously fall in that range but I’ve only examined 1 paddle so very possible it’s an outlier! 110-113 honestly feel very similar above that feels kinda middle of the road heavy if that helps!
@@pickleballtechdudethank you for the response. My hesitance is the smaller sweet spot on the hyper, after breaking in I feel my scorpeus has the largest sweet spot on any paddle I’ve used and that’s where the thought of the V came from. I’ll try out the hyper!
How durable is their carbon fiber surface compared to other top tier raw CF paddles such as the Joola Gen 3s? I'm a high spin player and depend on spin extensively. Currently using a Proton Series 1 with their nanotech surface that actually gains in spin over the months rather than decline. Thanks. Liked.
Beautiful - appreciate the support! Gearbox relies more on dwell time than grit so their spin will likely last longer than say a gen 3S however I don’t have a reason to believe either uses lower quality CF.
Do you know if gearbox plans to make a Gearbox Pro Ultimate Hyper widebody pickleball paddle; power wise closer to the power of the gearbox Pro Power. That is the paddle I would buy as I already have 2 Gearbox Pro power pickleball paddles and would like a widebody power paddle.
I wouldn’t describe this paddle as poppy to be honest - ball sinks into the face on most shots. Blocks and resets might be easier with the Scorpeus as the Hyper is a widebody dedicated to offense for the most part!
So J2K is better out the box but is also a completely different paddle. Much more all-court oriented vs the hyper which is definitely a power paddle. Hope that helps!
@@pickleballtechdude honeslty i dont know which to buy. i do love both...the paddle am using know is the prism flash, and it kinda twist if i put a power on it sometimes. is the bnb invader comparable to the gearbox hyper ultimate?
@@arrowhead1484you’re comparing completely different paddles. They hyper is a wide body, the flash and invader are both hybrids. Hyper is a power paddle, the flash is more control and I think invader is an all-court paddle.
This is always going to be subjective I really just wanted to put a number to this in case anyone was curious. I think from my experience doing this drill multiple times anything above 60% is going to feel pretty controllable so for the Hyper at +80% it helped me understand how consistent it truly is
@@pickleballtechdude true. With as many paddles you have to test you probably don’t have a paddle that you can call your “main”. At least not quite in the way normal players do. Keep up the good work!👍
Pulse V is an awesome control-oriented paddle whereas the Hyper is all-court leaning power that becomes more powerful over time. Both great for ball feel and overall playing experience I would make your decision purely based on the power potential! For my personal game I prefer the Hyper
Best and most thorough review of this paddle yet, and I've heard just about all of them. Nice job!
