0:39 actually Efteling had even more visitors than Disneyland Park in 2020 at 2.9 million. This was obviously because covid restrictions were stricter in both France and Germany compared to us, but it's still interesting to think that Efteling has actually been the most visited park of Europe at one point.
Do keep in mind that Efteling doesn't count visitors, but visits. If someone with a subscription visits the park twenty times in a year, Efteling counts that as twenty visitors. Luckily for them, because the court has ordered they can't have more than 5 million visitors per year. Once they hit that number, they need to close for the rest of the year due to legislation regarding their CO2 emissions (that's also why they're constantly working on reducing their footprint, so they can apply for a new permit).
@@PeterRoscal They do not count subscriptions are each visit. They take out the average visits. They also used to count cars. Their math was that on average each car had 3.4 visitors. Nowadays, Hotel guests are not counted per visit, but only once. This, as you mention, to reduce the amount of visitors per year due complaining neighbours etc.
@@PeterRoscal "because the court has ordered they can't have more than 5 million visitors per year. Once they hit that number, they need to close for the rest of the year due to legislation regarding their CO2 emissions" Seriously?!? What a joke.. 🤣
@@TVARecordings You're right! I got the two switched around. Of course, it's in their interest to count a subscription holder as a single visit to be able to do their numbers magic :)
@@inflatable2It is due to too much Nitrogen in NL and Efteling is direct next to nature2000. Europe has laws to protect nature. So we Dutch are fucked as a delta with big harbors Rotterdam Antwerpen and Rurhr industry. Big shipping route North Sea and last but not least farmers
This was a bonus having two Efteling reviews today. I actually watched yours first, but only coming back now to comment. This was one park where I didn't really expect much, but was blown away by the quirkiness. Loved it!
The fairytale part was designed by Anton Pieck, he illustrated the Dutch version of the Grimm fairytales. In my opinion he is the best. His paintings are so gothic, nothing childish about it.
A small disclaimer for people considering to visit Efteling, depending on the season you plan to visit, it's recommended to at least stay a night at a nearby hotel/AirBNB or the park's facilities: - Efteling Hotel (The most expensive) It has it's own private entrance to the park, including a 30+ min early bird access to the park. - Bosrijk (A nice price-balance) does have a seperate entrance next to the normal entrance, also featuring early entrance. Aprox 5-10 min walk away from the entrance. Downside, it's in the woods, not very suitable for wheelchairs. - Loonsche Land (hotel). It features a hotel and small houses. It's the cheapest of all 3. However, it's still a nice stay! Aprox 10-15 min walk away from the entrance, sharing the same entrance with Bosrijk. It's very accesable for wheelchairs/disabled guests. And, every summer, spring and holidays the Efteling hosts a free 'train' ride from and to Bosrijk/Loonsche Land close to the entrance, aprox a 3- min walk. Now, a disclaimer about 2 rides you've mentioned in your video. The ride Spookslot has been closed and demolished for a new ride opening in 2024. The ride Monsieur Cannibal has been renovated and now is named Sirocco. It has a new theming. (It's open) For guests that are planning to visit somewhere in 2024. The Efteling is planning to open a new hotel, which will also then function as the new entrance to the park. And, something incredible: Aquanura. Europe's largest fountain/music show, featuring Efteling Music. There are 4 variants, of which currently only 2 are hosting. There's also a parkshow, Raveleijn. Featuring horses, fire, water and more. The show is aprox 20 minutes long. Personally, i don't recommend to watch this show if you have a short stay in the park. A recommended hotel nearby the Efteling is named 'Guesthouse', it's in the same price range as Loonsche Land, but not owned by the Efteling. It's located at aprox 15-20 min walk away from the entrance. There's a supermarket next to the hotel named Albert Heijn. It has regular price's for their products, as it's a local supermarket (owned by a big company). So no crazy Themepark prices for a bread or drinks.
@@KeesBoons The people in the Benelux are spoiled with the Efteling in our near. Fairytales are mostly sad or creepy stories with and beautifull or happy end and the Efteling dare to bring it over to there visitors and Disney not... Maybe a culture question???
Was nice watching your review. Good camerawork btw. And damn Jos is a jolly guy, he made me laugh 😋Seems like luckily you guys had good weather after all once in you were in the park. Also enjoying your Phantasialand vids. I'm going to De Efteling next friday and I'm ready to get in all attractions :P
I've been there as a child and it's amazing to see that everything that was there then is still there like around30 years later... Can't say that about Phantasialand.
It's been years since I've been here, even though I'm from the Netherlands. I remember Python pretty much killing my neck every time I rode it and heard it's so much better since its retrack. Definitely on my list to do when I go visit it again :) Thank your for the awesome review. You make us Dutchies proud!
There aren't slight differences in Symbolica each time you ride. Just before the station you are able to choose between three tours (variations of the ride) the heroes tour, treasure tour and music tour.
We went here in the first week of April! It’s an awesome park! I went on the Baron roller coaster and it’s definitely one of the best I’ve been on! Great video!
Hey there! The Efteling is open year round, in september it's open 10.00-18.00/10 am to 6 pm. Travelling by train from Amsterdam to the Efteling will take between 1 hr and 40 minutes to 2 hours, the trip costs €24.00/25.00 one way. Most likely you'll use the train, switch to another train later on and lastly you'll ride the bus and arrive at the Eftelinv busstop.
That still is very much a thing. I've been told the percentage ratio of greenery versus rides and attractions is outlined in the contract between the park and the municipality of Kaatsheuvel, which is why they have to acquire additional land every time they want to build a new attraction.
Fun Fact about the Python: It was the first roller coaster to be build in the Benelux. And, when it got it's rework done with a smoother track, the ride got 5-7 meters wider.
Awesome vid. You got all the details right and I'm impressed. And very nicely edited. Really enjoyed watching this. Instant like. Also, to answer your question, I'm watching this video because I visited over a hundred times and I like to see what other people think.
Was in Efteling last friday. Was a really nice day. Sadly Baron 1898 was closed (but it was announced before, so I knew it ahead). But the food could be better. If you ever visited Phantasialand you know what I mean. ;)
I missed out on the storybook land!! It was pretty crowded and I was lucky enough to get on all the major rides. The suspended dark ride really surprised me, especially when it started picking up speed
Can’t believe Droomvlucht only got an honorable mention. That’s the one I see everyone talk about online. Like supposedly it’s the most emblematic of the ethos of efteling
Fun Fact about the Flying Dutchman Water Coaster: The issues with the Lift Hill where never really solved. The part where you stop on the Lift after the surprise drop more or less is that problem. Originally they wanted to have the trains engage with the lift and have it pulled up with out stopping, however during tests it would constantly break down and nobody was able to get it to work reliably. It was then decided to make the problem a feature of the ride and they added the short show scene on the lift.
I did not know of the issues with the lift before I rode. But I literally was like wtf shocked when a train just stopped on the lift at that speed since every other ride in the world makes it so vital to make the catch smoothly for maintenance reasons.
Thats just a myth, in the 60s Efteling was not as huge as it is now. When the Walt Disney company wanted to open a parc in Europe though they ask Efteling for advice
The efteling is great , it was designed by a well known artist who illustrated fairy tale books and children books . so if one read the or was read to from the original books and looked a the pictures and went to the park they would be exactly the same characters . And as the park kept its old rides and atractions only adding on to them every one has the same experience and a new one . if one would go when the park was newly opened and took his children 15 years later the experience for both would be the same as when the parrents where young and the parents would have the same new experience as their chidren , same with grandparents and great great grandparents. Anton piek was the name of the artis and ilustrator , his art is well worth to have a look .
