    A lot of banks have put the kibosh on silver hunting. A friend and I went on the hunt in Fargo, ND and all the bank tellers immediately said "NO" they where complete jerks about it too. As if their boss told them they would be sentenced to death if they accommodated silver hunters or something. They actually made us feel ashamed to ask for 50 cent pieces. We had no luck at all. Banks just plane suck in every way.

      amber lopez My bank doesn't have a problem at all, they only ask that I take only the coins I ordered. First time I went in I cleaned out their pennies and quarters (and ordered halves) and the girl got in trouble because some businesses came in after me in need of change.
      I asked them what I could do to make life easier for them and they said to reroll pennies, nickels, and quarters... but leave halves loose. They give me bags to put $1,000 of loose halves in so it goes direct back to wherever they order from.

      I put my daily change on a plate and find that I accumulate about 6 to 7 hundred dollars per month rolling each roll as I get enough for a roll. This avoids the problem all at once. Each time I tune them in it breaks down to about $550.00 in quarters, $50 in dimes

    I worked in a cash vault for 3 years. I used to do exactly the same thing. In my case, I was allowed too keep a petty cash drawer available in my name and exchange bills and coins when Silver Certificates or Silver Coins came in.
    Our company's bank always brought our coins in clear plastic wrap; making quick scans for silver easy...often the silver dimes and quarters would stand out perfectly. However, we never ordered halves or silver dollars. But I could see the benefit.
    Regrettably, and despite handling about $125K a day in transactions, the amount of silver I collected wasn't nearly enough to quit my job to do this full-time. However, I imagine if one were venturous enough, in a large city with several banks around to do business with, it could potentially pan out.
    Anyway, it is a lot of work, but is also fun too. I also amassed a very nice collection of some rare old foreign coinage as well; it is surprising what some cashiers will accept for change; luckily, I was privy to be able to keep most of it...to my boss, foreign coins were primarily junk.

      +Taylor actually a lot of banks allow minors to change their cash into change. My bank allows minors to even get a bank account. I have second cousins who are minors that are doing this themselves. they go into all the banks around my town and either get boxes like this or they change their cash into silver dollars.

      I did CRH several years ago. Found over 1200 silver halves and dollars, mostly 40%. Then people like this guy started writing and youtubing about it and after about a year I gave up. All the banks were getting dry. I gave up and went to other ways of getting silver.

    congrats ! I tried this just once..bought a few rolls of dimes . Got tons of 1965 dimes (1964=silver) So it is looking like the coin supply is getting picked over. But take advantage of it while it is here. Buying silver bullion seems easier to me so I am doing that too...but this is a fun treasure hunt. BTW. I just went through the self check out line @ the grocery store and paid for my $30- $40 groceries w/ coins ..pissed someone behind me by 3 minutes to buy my stuff, but they just got in another line.

    We in the UK went decimal in 1970 which took nearly all our silver out of circulation. I used to buy silver French 10 franc coins and France had a lot of silver in circulation until they changed the currency and went for brass Euro trash. When silver was $4 an ounce nobody cared. Still got a box of US half dollars pre 1964 : can't believe silver went so high.

    btw even tho 1969 is correct 1970 is also 40% silver. I have done this for just over a year and in $1000 face value I made $5500! Even tho silver is the main reason to do this there are alot of other things you should look for like 1987 (low mintage) and proof coins (S mintmarks) which both less for over face value.

    I bought 100 bucks in halves from my bank a few years ago, and the teller said "You aren't trying to find silver I hope, we have tellers who look through these for silver". I told her that they were party favors for a bachelor party (a lie) and went on my way. When I broke em open, I found two 90% 1964s and four 40% Kennedys in them. I guess that they didn't look hard enough at the bank (or they were full of it).

    So lets say on average it takes you about 2 hours to just go through the coins. You find $105 in silver. -$5 for the face value of the 10 coins. So in two hours you gained $100 or $50 an hour. not bad. But what if it takes you another hour to re-roll the coins. 100/3 = 33.33/hr.... and then it costs you money to drive around to the gold/silver places and coin shops and shipping and listing prices on ebay. Quickly this is going to drop down to 12$ or less an hour... especially when you stop finding coins that are actually made of silver. This is a waste of time and resources. Personally I'd rather just go to my normal job and make more and contribute more... unless your job sucks balls then power to ya

    In my area, asking for old rolls of coins at area banks, you would think you just stuck a gun in their face and demanded all their money. They do not like it and they really give you a hard time over it. Some just come out with a flat, " We don't have any. ", canned response.

    GreenCabby, what part of the country are you in? Whating your videos from a couple years ago and you're hitting two and three silvers per ROLL. Here I'm in Fed District #3 (Philadelphia) & I'm finding maybe four or five silvers per every 4,000 (4-cases) I sift through... can you tell if there are areas of the country where the halves are "mined-out"? i.e. anyplace where you'll find more silvers than others? John in Garrett Hill PA (Radnor Twp) Fed District #3: Philly

    • @beebob1279
      @beebob1279 8 років тому

      +John P Child Probably there are fewer because so many people are wise to the silver thing. The 65 to 69 coins are new to me though and I bet not many know this.

      1970 was not released for circulation just in sets from the mint 1969 is the last year of circulation hope this info helps!!

    • @angelburba635
      @angelburba635 6 років тому

      Correct. So if you find a 1970 half it will be 40%. It is rare to find them in circ but they are out there

    • @angelburba635
      @angelburba635 6 років тому

      I always check dates after looking for edges. I “missed” several 40% due to dirty edges that I saw when date searching

      Actually, according to my 2018 Official Red Book, there were 90% silver half dollars minted up to 2015(S). 1970 was the last year for regular issue 1/2 dollars with any silver content.

    Hold the roll and run a pencil erasure down the roll, the silver will pop right out. A typewriter erasure is the best, that harsh erasure will instantly remove a strip of oxidation.
    Hope this helps, with any silver hunting.
