Glad you did this. Hunting is not easy and with everyone just posting the finds, makes it seem like you find silver every box.
I've never found silver in the boxes I searched. I've had great luck searching customer wrapped rolls over the years!

Found my first silvers for 2023 on Friday. A 1962D Quarter and a 1960D Dime. Hopefully your 4th box brings some silver halves.

Hey @RobFindsTreasure , I went to the bank and picked up a box of pennies a couple months ago and the ENTIRE box were 1973 pennies in at least MS 66 condition. I opened 5 of the rolls to confirm they were all 1973 pennies and they were. Should I open all the rolls and grade them?

I just went thru my WORST $500 box of Kennedy's. Zero silver. 35% were all 1971, 1972. Zero NIFC coins. Most looked like parking lot coins.
Good or not so great still love a hunt. Now that you hunting halves maybe a hunt and fill series?

Yes, it's the years
Have you encountered “hobo” coins? Have the chance to pick up a couple that appear to have been created from Morgan Dollars. Thoughts?
Sometimes you don’t find silver. I find more silver quarters than half dollars on average. Get a box of half’s and a box of quarters, find 2 silvers on average per quarter box and rarely find a silver in the half’s. I don’t find lots of 21s or 22s at all in my rolls. Only a couple here and there. Last time I found more than one silver in a box was almost a year ago! I do much better with dimes and quarters compared to half dollars in my Southern California boxee.

What's the reason NIFC's appear commonly for half dollars? Whats the origin of these coins?
I have some basic questions: Where or how do you get the $500 box of half dollar coins? Is it ordered from the bank? Does it cost more than face value of the coins? If the box is uncirculated, does this mean the bank or whatever never gave them out or that it was delivered from the mint?
Yes you order them at the bank. It does not cost more than face value, and I do think the uncirculated coins are sent from the mint to the distribution companies Like Loomis, and then delivered to the bank. I could be wrong about my last answer.
If they're not intended for circulation, what were they intended for?
I have gathered and saved the bicentennial halves for a looooong time. More of a curiosity to me. Not sure of any varieties or errors, do not even look.

What causes the “ring of death”? I find them all the time
The "ring of death" usually happens to the "ender" (the coins that are on the ends of the rolls where the one side is in contact with the air/elements and the crimped up part of the coin roll. There are two enders to a coin roll. Most often you'll get a toning line and different toning where the coin didn't have access to open air and the parts of the coin that you can see on the roll before you open it up. Sometimes that comes in the form of surface scratching on the coin that wasn't protected from the "elements".

I did find a 2022 D half in a roll a few weeks ago.
I find a lot of magic marker marked 1/2s . Is that someone searching them and marking them?
So if it has a D or P it is NIFC for half dollars?

What is the best way to go to banks that you are not a customer and ask to buy boxes of coins?
Just go up and ask a teller and be very friendly. If they say no, just tell them, thank you anyway and move on.

How can you tell if a coin is NFIC ?
1970, 1987 and 2002-2022. Not sure if 2023 is gonna be NIFC or not.
Sadly, it seems the best way to find silver halves these days is to buy junk silver from your LCD

So that's what an NIFC is.
I was curious of the years. Explains why a 1987 Half-Dollar is considered a find.
But 1970 is also an NIFC? Huh, explains why those 40% Silver Half-Dollars are hard to find.
And 2002-2020 being NIFC is interesting to certain extent.
I don't watch on Half-Dollar coins so much but now I got some info.
