I had this happen to me once. I just used my tubular pick tool to take off the boot in about 30seconds. The guy was waiting in the corner of the lot and saw me take it off and started running towards me so I threw it in my car and drove off 😂

I called the police on a different scam while in progress- they refused to come because it’s not a police matter “to be unhappy with a service I received.” Guy damaged my car pretending to get a dent out- look up dent gypsy.
Here in New Jersey this boot thing is allowed. In Bloomfield there is a lot where if you don't come out in time from a store, a man will boot your car and then demand a credit card to get it off. Booting for profit should not be allowed.

as a person who spends most of their day in a tow truck. I am going to give you a little tip on these booters. if its NOT from the city/town that you are in, the boot is ILLEGAL. no one has the legal authority to boot people's cars unless they are from the city/town. if you find a boot on your car the first thing is to call the local police or parking enforcement (whichever does the booting) and ask them if they put a boot on your car. if they say no, then you have every legal right to remove it.

Considering the fact that it's virtually unheard of for anyone to go around removing boots (unsolicited) from the vehicles of people they don't know, the logical conclusion is that he either removed the boot himself or got someone to do it for him (which still makes him responsible). It's kind of hard to cast reasonable doubt on the claim that he was responsible for having the boot removed from his own vehicle unless he can present hard evidence to the contrary in court.

If you believe that someone is trying to scam you here's a tip: Pull out your phone, point it at them and say "i'm recording this encounter for my lawyer" Their response will tell you everything you need to know.

A tow company tried this on me in Louisville KY. I had my brother drive 45 minutes north with a cutting torch. I was in no way parked illegally. The crook's accomplice made his rounds back through and noticed what my bro and I were beginning to do and he threw a fit.. I stood there armed while he made threats. The police showed up determined that no parking violations had occured and allowed us to proceed because he claimed to not be in possession of the key. If he is still in "business" I have no idea I just avoid Louisville altogether and stay rural.

I got my car towed from parking at the restaurant where I did eat.. Took me around 30min to figure out it was a scam and my car did not get stolen. The guy give me back my car after I got physical with I'm. Then did go to the police. Police said we know them and we will not do a report. I was soo mad. It's been 2 years now and those same people still operate in the same parking lot.

Something most people don’t know is if your car gets towed. In Illinois and a lot of other states the driver and the business most have a state relocation license. If they do not it is theft. First thing you ask for is that license and they have to show you.

I'd just blowtorch off the "modification" you made to my car without my consent. If you don't want me to destroy your property, don't physically attach your property to MY property.

He should have been in jail for extortion and other laws that he's already been caught for and then hits over twenty other towns and still out of jail. This is the issue, it shouldn't take a news station getting involved to get such an obvious scam stopped. Maybe police could use a couple of the people whose sole job is to write tickets to work tracking down scams like this, as I doubt very much this sleazeball is the only one pulling it.

The problem with a situation like this, is there is nothing a cop on patrol can do, it's sort of a he said/she said sort of deal an they can't stop patrolling and doing a couple hours of research to find out if this guys actions are legal or not, which is why, if it's prevalent enough they should assign a officer just for things like this.

As a tow truck driver, I can assure this dumpster fire of a human didn't have a rig capable of towing that swift truck. Nor would this scam artist be willing to pay or convince a company with a big rig wrecker to do his bidding. I was booted at my girlfriend's apartment, drilled the lock and left it in the spot for those freaking crooks.

i was doing a welding job for the city of Atlanta years ago, and with my leads stretched out and me working they booted my welding rig. my helper bout flipped out about not getting home on time. whoever booted that truck should have known they cant keep a welding rig down. 2 min with a torch and away we went. never heard a word about it. lol
Most legitimate booting operators/parking enforcement won't even try booting a welding truck. Reason is obvious: way too many ways to remove it with ease.

The garbage he pulled on that trucker absolutely kills me. The trucking industry itself is so unfair to the drivers and independent owner/operators. They work like dogs, running huge distances, managing expenses and trying to make ends meet, and even legitimate fines and fees can steal their profit from a hard job. To see this guy steal a thousand dollars, which could be the whole profit from a delivery, or more than the man is going to make off it, is not only criminal, it's sinful.

i had a similar thing when the towing company booted 25 cars in my work parking lot without checking that all of the vehicles were registered with my employer,when my employer found out they 2 guys from the bus body shop with torches and cut all of them off,then the transit police came up with a van and took all of them away and took them to the central shops and locked all of them away,eventually the township arrested the towing company owner and the county arrested him and put him in jail on theft and other charges,the state also got involved and after everything he was put in jail for 2 more years and they confiscated all of his equipment and sold everything,5 years later he was released from jail and was branded a convicted felon and nobody knows what happened to him or cared a rats ass about him

She had the handicap sticker and the sign hanging from the rearview mirror. But, her car was booted. Probably from this same guy? She only had $100. Dollars in her purse for shopping and this creep took it after she said that she didn't have more money. I wasn't there, I was on vacation in Florida. When she told me, I asked her why she didn't call the police? She said that he was convincing and told her that her Handicap signs were expired and that he was city traffic enforcement. My mom has since pass away, but, this will always stick with me. I would have liked to catch this jerk. How many other poor older people did he do this too?
I actually met that guy twice here in Bolingbrook and Joliet, in Bolingbrook by Merlin, he showed me $7500.00 in cash, then he went to collect from a guy parked by the cleaners next to Food4Less which is now Tony’s Fresh Market.
He use to have 3 other guys working with him with Police Badges posing as off-duty Bolingbrook Detectives, that’s how he was scaring people to pay up or go to jail. Glad they finally got him! 🤗👏👍😊👍
