Thank You for your comment 😀. ONE PIECE technique is fun, isn’t it! In the beginning I was using standard method to make the lid separately. I always felt awkward in the shape. The lid and the pot don’t belong each other. Then I found this technique. This technique changed my approach to making pots completely. I’m so glad I can share my sensation with fellow potters🥰
I love your videos so much, I always learn a lot and you remind me to slow down. And your pieces are so beautiful. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with the world!

Wonderful video, thank you for showing the whole process so clearly . So satisfying when the top fits the bottom so well! Also, great demonstration at the end of the non-drip effect. Looking forward to your next video! 😊

Thank you for your comment Rita😊. It is good to know the camera angles are good. I tried many angles and settled down to this one. This is the way I want to see if I am watching someone is throwing.
Such a good video. I’ve learned more tips in this one video than any other video! The pool noodle on the slash rim! Great idea. I also never thought about glazing the outside first. Carful thought into every step. Thank you very much!
Thank you for your comment 😊. I’m glad my experience is useful for other potters. I always think “why” . I often find the other method which resolves the problem.
Thank you 🥰. I’ve never thought I can show my style in 5 years ago back. I was too shy 🤣. The pandemic changed me. I want to share everything I know of. Please support me and let’s make much bigger potter’s society!
Thank you for explaining every step so thoroughly. I have been struggling with my cylinders which has led me to not being able to make any closed forms. Watching this has given me motivation to try again ❤️
thank you for this! i too have been making covered sauce jars which have included a small spout on the delicate rim, something like yours. these didn't work out consistently as it's a challenge to make a spout with that delicacy when the clay is grogged and not very elastic. next, i went to a tiny thrown and attached spout, where a hole was included in the top with which one can regulate the liquid flow. yours are beautiful, simple and very functional. you remind me of what can be done in the throwing process that reduces trimming and finishing.
Thank you for your detailed comment 😊 Clay with grog is tricky, isn’t it! I know hoy you feel. Thinking about design and functionality then put them together on the wheel Is awesome moment. If it works 🤣. Please let me know how you are doing with this project.
I really enjoy watching your videos. You explain things really well and inspire new ideas that I want to incorporate in my repertoire. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you so much for this video. I am by no means an expert. I am still very much a beginner, but I have watched a lot of videos and taken classes and you taught me several things in this one video that I have never been exposed to before! Please keep up the great work!
I got my first two sauce pots out of the kiln this week and they both work amazingly. I ended up making the lids separate rather than doing a one piece process as I've never been good at the one piece pot and I love making and trimming lids. I can't wait to try an oil version next.
Your instruction is so clear and clean. I made a closed lidded pot (not sure if that is the right term) and a bottle for the very, ever first time because of learning from you. I would really like to try this kind of pouring pot. Thank you for choosing to teach us.
Your videos are amazing! I just started with pottery and I'm hooked up with your art of pottery❤! Thank you for sharing! Could you please make videos with glazing (what kind of glaze) and also the whole procedure (firing process) to the final product, so that beginners get a clue what's needed to get the final result of yours? Thank you so much beforehand!
@@AlchemyCeramic i threw several of these last week, and it's been such fun to see it come together! question for you about this technique - do you let the lids dry outside of the bottles? one of mine cracked because the neck dried and shrunk faster than the lid. i'm worried about making the fit too snug and risking cracking or the lid just getting stuck. wondering how you manage this? thanks!
Great news! You have tried 😁 The reason for cracking is may be due to the bottle neck thickness is thinner than lid wall so bottle shrunk faster than the lid. Please try two things, the first you can trim the inside of the lid to make the thickness to match the bottle neck. The second one is to cover with plastic sheet lightly. Trying to slow down the drying speed especially in this weather. My studio is cool so drying speed is slow. I hope These can resolve the problem. I usually make them tight fit as I don’t like loose fit which seems to be not well made. Please try my suggestions and if you still have problems please let me know we can think together.
Thank you so much. I was looking for an idea for a gift to make for my friends, and this one is just perfect. It's always a pleasure to watch your videos.

At the moment slowly my dream is becoming true. 🤗 Thank you for your support!
Thank you 😊. Same system Glass sauce Pot is quite common in Japan. I wasn’t sure if it works with stoneware clay as the tightness is less than glass pot. It works very well. Now this is going to be my usual line up.
@@AlchemyCeramic, Thanks for your personal answer!🙏 We Europeans can learn so much from Japanese culture and all its finesses. And the way that you marry beauty and usefulness makes you a proper Alchemist! Looking forward to all your new findings.
Thank you for watching. Some glazes are my recipes and some aren’t. I will post with recipe when I use only my glaze next time. My firing schedule is nothing special. I have L&L kiln. Most of the time I use slow glaze cone 6 and 60 minutes holding time at the top temperature. In this way even cone. setting the atmospheric temperature in the kiln becomes higher. It reaches cone 7 to 8 easily . I have slow cooling schedule but I only use specific glaze.
Cool it doesn't drip at all, so clever! I love your one piece series. Recently I was inspired to make a lidded salt shaker with your method. I made it like your spice shaker jar, but I cut the lid at the top of the part that you push in with the chopstick that becomes the flange. When trimming the base of the pot, I made a footring and I cut out a circle inside the footring from the base and score and slip to re-attach it covering the flange. My jar was slightly cone shaped inwards so the base is wider than the top so that the size is ok (Actually I am not skilled enough to make it with the inset lid like your previous video with snow on the moon glaze, but I think this would look better). Then I made holes in the attached circle for the salt. I will fill the jar with salt at the base and put a cork in the hole in the base. I hope that makes sense! Thank you for the inspiration :)
Wow! Great work🤩. I made Salt and Pepper Shakers (Hand built) recently. I made a hole at the bottom and used plastic plug I found them on line. Your style is also very interesting 😊. I’m so glad I can hear from the fellow potter how they make!. Thank you for sharing your experience with me!.
The size is 5cm x 1.5cm. I recommend to use hard wood which has finer grains. After you sand it the surface becomes very smooth and doesn’t drag the clay much.
I really love your videos. I try to watch a new one every day- then repeat them. I’ve thrown several of your pieces and absolutely love them! I’m so happy I found you. I feel I’m at a skill level and are really ready for all these. Thank you so much! What is your first name? 😊
Thank you for becoming the regular viewer 😊. I’m so glad you have tried many of my pieces! I hope I can post more interesting videos. My name is Akemi, it sounds similar to Alchemy❤️
Thank you friend watching Richard 😊. Please check my video “ ONE PIECE Lidded Jar version2” which is good start for the beginners when they try this closed form. I hope you enjoy this series.
Clever and functional - I definitely want to try this! Do you try to put some visual cue - a line or arrow or such - on the lid to show the user which side to pour from?
Thank you for your comment 😊. I did for some. l struck a diamond shape on the lid to point the pouring sides. The diamond shape is unglazed which brings nice contrast.
Thank you for watching 😊. Yes I fired the lid on. In this way I can expect perfect fit. If you worried not glazing the liquid contact parts, you can glaze joints parts and fire separately. But you need to consider the glaze thickness. You can glaze and wipe the glaze lightly then fire separately, is another way you can choose. I always like to fire lid and the pot together so I choose non-glazing joint part.
Thank you 😊 I didn’t invent the system ( I wish I did ). This is popular item in Japan which normally made by glass. Thank you for the person who made this in the first place.
The last bit which you showed how sauce was poured definitely convinced me this non-drip bottle did the great job! Amazingly good piece! 👍Btw, I did couple of those shallowing cookie jars with lids. But the lids warped. They were not flat as they should be at bisque firing. I can only think that 1240 degrees had caused that or compression had not been done well during throwing stage...What do you think? Thank you
Thank you for your comment 😊. This pot definitely works! I use by myself everyday. This make me so happy at the dining table. About shallow jar. Please try to make a lid thicker and foot ring thicker and taller. You can also add extra ring which is between the lid foot ring and centre. It will help to stop warping.
Thank you for your question Kevin😊. I use very light colour pastel which only leave wax burn colour ( yellow ochre) which is exactly same as when I just use wax. I haven’t tried strong colors such as blue which assume contains cobalt. My guess is it would be darker but not blue anymore. When I use this technique next time I will try different oil pastels and will include in the video.
Thank you for your question Linda😊 This tiny air vent hole was closed when I trim the bottle in leather hard stage. The trimming pressure is enough to close this hole.
Thank you for your question😊 I thought someone might ask this question. This is unglazed part is waxed so it is more protected compared to the part no glaze and no wax part. It is more shiny. You can also use fine clay to cover the issue you worried. Japanese pottery “Bizen Yaki” is one of my favorite style. It is very traditional pottery in Okayama prefecture. They don’t use glaze. They have long firing system (7-9 days I was told 😳) Their local clay is fine clay. Those pots are beautiful and functional. The key is long firing. If you can, better to use slow long firing program to make clay’s porous tighter. If I am not answering well please ask me again with more details.
Thank you for watching 😊. I replied long answer to other viewer’ question which is same with yours. so please read that. If you are asking suitably for the hygiene point of view the answer is up to you. Many potter use cracking glaze as feature specially in Japan. Mattcha tea bowl particularly, people enjoy the tea bowl changes the colour by usage. We call it “ The tea bowl grows up “ By the way inside of the pot is glazed. Only the overlap part is unglazed because I want to fire them together.
Thank you for your comment 😊The front one is standard Celadon. Many recipes are on internet nowadays. Best way to find the recipe is to search your country recipe as you can get same ingredients.
Everything about this video was wonderful to watch and the pots are beautiful! I love the use of oil pastels for the resist designs--stroke of genius!

Thank you so much, very inspiring and beautiful work🩵💙💚💜🩷
I’m so glad I can inspire the fellow potters 🥰
I am so inspired by this, I'm going to try to make some today,. Thank you for sharing!
Please Try! This is lovely pot to use😊
@@AlchemyCeramic I'm trying to make that wooden tool, could you give me roughly the dimensions of the bottom please?
Incredible precision.
Thank you Anne-Marie😊
Thank you. I am a beginner but I am going to give this a try!
Thank you friend watching Richard 😊. Please check my video “ ONE PIECE Lidded Jar version2” which is good start for the beginners when they try this closed form. I hope you enjoy this series.
So genius...and very great techniques 👏
Thank you Marry😊. This pot is useful, please try to make it.
@@AlchemyCeramic I will ...you are a very good teacher and love 💕 your one piece pots

Would this type of pot work for oil? Can't wait to make this.
Best timing 😁. I’m going to post Oil Dispenser Version tomorrow.
I found this very inspiring. Just sad that I can’t get into the pottery studio for another 6 weeks 😢
Thank you for your comment 😊 Too bad! 6 weeks without pottery 😭.
When you go Bato the studio please try this!
This such a cool idea! I want to try making one
Thank you for your comment 😊 It really works well. please try!
I always love your videos so informative and enjoyable to watch. Question. Did you fire the lid in the pot with the glaze firing? 😊
Thank you for your detailed reply. I’m going to try glazing them together. 😍
Genius construction
Thank you 😊 I didn’t invent the system ( I wish I did ). This is popular item in Japan which normally made by glass. Thank you for the person who made this in the first place.
This is fantastic ❤
Thank you for watching 😀

@@AlchemyCeramic :-) Arigatou! Definitely follow your advise for next throw!
I love this piece! Just one question - does the oil pastel leave any trace of color/pigment? Or does it burn away?
Thank you for your question Kevin😊. I use very light colour pastel which only leave wax burn colour ( yellow ochre) which is exactly same as when I just use wax. I haven’t tried strong colors such as blue which assume contains cobalt. My guess is it would be darker but not blue anymore. When I use this technique next time I will try different oil pastels and will include in the video.
Useful video with clear instructions!
But how could you close the hole at the bottle after drying out?
Thank you for your question Linda😊
This tiny air vent hole was closed when I trim the bottle in leather hard stage. The trimming pressure is enough to close this hole.
@@AlchemyCeramic i see. I should try throwing. Thx. 🫶🏻
Thank you so much. I love this ☺

I love Japanese stoneware! Do Japanese generally collect or use sets of stoneware all of the same style or do they mix and match?
Thank you for watching 😊 Generally speaking “mix and match”. Our dinner table is colorful.
I have to try this project!
Thank you for watching 😊
very informative, great video! one question, I noticed the surface that pours the sauce is not glazed, is that okay?
Hello I am very new to pottery. I really love this technique. Is this still suitable for liquid even though there is unglazed clay inside?
Thank you for watching 😊. I replied long answer to other viewer’ question which is same with yours. so please read that.
If you are asking suitably for the hygiene point of view the answer is up to you.
Many potter use cracking glaze as feature specially in Japan.
Mattcha tea bowl particularly, people enjoy the tea bowl changes the colour by usage. We call it “ The tea bowl grows up “
By the way inside of the pot is glazed. Only the overlap part is unglazed because I want to fire them together.
😍 heel erg mooi!
Dank je wel😊
Genius!
😃
Achei lindo! Parabéns!!!
Obrigada, por favor tente fazer isso.😊
What glazes do you use. So pretty!
Thank you for your comment 😊The front one is standard Celadon. Many recipes are on internet nowadays. Best way to find the recipe is to search your country recipe as you can get same ingredients.
Wonderful.
Thank you 😊
