0:43 "something as simple as chugs" - YES 🤘- Instant smile when you did that. If I'm having a bad day, just some random chugging can instantly make me feel better. Great video Dunn, agree with others that these videos are great. Combine what you've said here with your one about overcoming frustration and I think I'm on the road to much better progress.
For me, the biggest driving factor for me to play is mainly as a release for pretty bad depression and cptsd (medically diagnosed), and also my want to become a music therapist so I can help other people. I find that guitar is also other then just being really fun is also a really good distraction for my bad habits with scrolling on Instagram or watching taboo material. And right I just got out of Year 12 and I got about three months until I head into to university, and I'm really just going to use the time to my advantage to be the best player I can be due to immense amount of free time i have (I play about 6 hours a day due to this) so any other fellows players who are struggling with mental health, stay inspired, and play what you love.
Great video bro... I've realised recently picking the guitar back up again that only I can make me better. It's one of those beautiful sacrifices where real effort over time makes you better, kinda simple and like you say depends how much you want to get better.
Yep, didn't hit me as early but looking at one, I wanna play it. I just need to combine the desire with Dunns video from a few days ago about avoiding/overcoming frustration. I hear what I want to play in my head, but hands are not ready for it yet but the key word is "yet" 🤘🤘
I have started a band recently, and you helped me a lot, like a LOT. People keeps asking how do i know these cool techniques. And YOU are the answer ly buddy
@@DUNN.. Thank you. Yeah, I picked the set up three days ago, been able to play 15 minutes since :( But the weekend is near and I haven't been this excited in long time.

Holy crap, that thumb wiggle thing you do is really unusual. I can't understand how you can do that at all let alone do it so fast. If it works for you then it's fine. Thanks for confirming what I thought for a while, I have tried so many times to use the recommended technique of tucking the fingers in ect for fast playing, and it ruins my sound. I got my own playing technique by being self taught and chasing the way things sounded not what was supposed to be the most optimal or efficient way. I know my technique is bad, but I like the sound that comes out.
I’d say the higher you move up the shred ladder or playing classical guitar the more correct technique is important . With aggressive metal techniques in the rhythm area of playing there’s more room for playing the way that’s most comfortable.
Hi. I've been contemplating on the practice routines. Is there any physical exercises for the fingers to boost strength? Like for hammerons and pulloffs and in general.
At the start trying to build pinky finger strength it's as simple as using it more like using your pinky finger in power chords instead of your ring finger just to get the gears turning and at the same time try to slowly do hammer ons and pull offs
Liam is right it’s simply using your fingers more and slowly building the mechanics. Be conscious of how high your fingers are off the fretboard when doing legato exercises. Do them consistently every day and you’ll notice improvements.
A couple of extra tips - include practice with SLOW legato making sure you hold down the note with the hammer on and hit pretty hard (harder than you would normally when playing, but not so hard you hurt yourself). Also, make sure you practice all finger combinations and practice where your index finger is not help down on the fretboard - eg hammer on fingers 2-3 and then 2-4, then 3-4. Same deal with pull off.
@DUNN.. congratulations for your new guitar day... that's Excellent ♥️🌹🤣 But your black star shape LTD guitar is the my favourite... good luck forever my dear friend Dear Dunn🤸🧘🦋🧡👌♥️🌹🧚🦅
Love these mindset/motivation videos even more than the riff videos.
Thanks, I definitely want to bring more psychology awareness style videos because I don’t think anyone ever talks about it in teaching guitar 🎸

Since I was a child iv been fascinated with the guitar being motivated. All I gotta do is look at one, and I wanna play it.
Keep the desire and passion and you’ll see improvements. It’s an obsession for me always has been

It took me a while to realise how good he is. Too many polished playthroughs on UA-cam I suppose.

C standard
All I do is chug all day everyday
I've been working on alternating chugs and diminished riffs
Or like, open single note chugs broken up with power chords, then a riff, then repeat
I got similar style of playing, is this C tuning?
Yes, C standard
