    Content
    In this video I talk about the power of paladins in the lore. Covering the history of the Light itself and the various races that can wield it. After that I mainly use humans for reference as I go into abilities and strengths and weaknesses. Lastly I compare the paladins against all other available classes. Keep in mind that this video is just my own opinion based on the current lore. Feel free to leave your thoughts below!

    I hope you don't mind someone disputing your theory.
    1:15:
    You seem to forget that the Night Elves have worshipped the Light - personified as Elune - for thousands of years even before the War of the Ancients. It's quite likely that the nocturnal trolls that discovered the Well of Eternity were already worshippers of the Moon
    Goddess, even before the powers of the Well evolved them into elves. Keep in mind that Velen himself believes Elune to be one of the Naaru, while Blizz sources claim that she might be even older and more primal than these beings. In fact, she may be the creator of the Naaru, in a parallel to the judeochristian God and His angels.
    Also, while the Sunwalkers were introduced in Cataclysm, we can easily assume that the cult of An'she, the Tauren Sun Goddess, is also ancient. The Tauren also recognize Elune (called Mu'sha) as a deity, although she and An'she seem to play second fiddle to the Earth Mother.
    Humankind, on the other hand, emerged post-Sundering. Their understanding of the Light may be more enlightened (pardon the pun), since they see it less as a "god" and more as a primordial force of the universe - but they were hardly the first ones on Azeroth to harness its power.
    2:58:
    Actually, even before the Sunwell was reignited, the Blood Knights were forced to undergo a major change of their dogma. When Kael'thas raided Silvermoon and abducted M'uru, the Blood Knight hierarchy realized how misguided they were. Desperately surviving on the remnant's of M'uru's energy left in their headquarters, they made contact with A'dal and pledged themselves to the Sha'tari cause, which in turn led to the reignition of the Sunwell. This was not a purely utilitarian decision, however - after facing such betrayal, Lady Liadrin truly regained her faith in the Light, and proactively sought redemption for her order. Ever since, they have - at least officially - returned to their traditional ways. In fact, their direct involvement with the Naaru may have brought them closer to the Draenei understanding of the Light than their old, human-inspired "worship".
    3:12:
    Calling the Sunwalkers "druids of the Sun" is a common, but irritating misunderstanding. It's about as accurate as calling Moon Priestesses "druids of the Moon" (which they obviously are not). The Sunwalkers are closer to shamanism than druidism, but, as I said above, their object of worship is not a mere elemental lord, but a sun deity. This would put them somewhere between shamans and priests, with a decidedly militant approach - basically, they are paladins in service of a more primal, less abstract religion. To dismiss them as "druids of the Sun" as insulting as dismissing our own world's non-dominant religions for not being "mainstream".
    3:38:
    In the vein of your dismissal of the Sunwalkers, but with full understanding of what I'm doing: isn't it the same way that some shamans can lose their elemental powers? (I'm looking at you, Thrall. *Twice already.*)
    3:59:
    Actually, the Broken and the Lost *were* forcefully severed from the Light by Fel magic and exposure to the Twisting Nether's energies after the sundering of Dreanor. Their affliction is not just psychological - it's holistic. Even in the alternate timeline of WoD we can find an example of such a Draenei (although he seems to have been corrupted mostly spiritually, without the physical shrivelling of the Broken and the Lost, but in the end he still wasted away as if mortally ill) - a Vindicator whose connection to the Light was severed by an Arrakoa sun priestess. You can encounter and free his hostile spirit in Talador, allowing him to transcend his taint and reconnect with the Light through final death.
    8:59:
    It was recently confirmed that demons are not that vulnerable to the Light. In fact, there are demons that actually wield it in a subversive, blasphemous way. The Light's opposite is the Void, not the Fel. This is probably the reason why paladin abilities are no longer designed in-game to be as effective against demons as they are against the undead (at least since WoD, if not earlier). *[!!!SPOILERS!!!]* In fact, the first and most fel-infused demon hunter, Illidan, was marked by the Light as its champion, and while he expected it to be painful, it did not actually hurt him *[/SPOILERS]* - so we can assume that the Light isn't specifically destructive to demons, at least not any more than it would be to regular mortals. (Any previous "extra damage" can be chalked up to either Early Installment Weirdness or Gameplay And Story Segregation... pardon my tropish).
    10:50:
    Actually, it was confirmed that despite being animated by dark magic, the Forsaken are not more vulnerable to the Light's power than most mortals. In fact, the healing powers of the Light cause them more pain than the damaging applications thereof, because they revive their dead flesh, causing them to actually register the pain of rotting, smell and taste their decay etc.
    All in all, while you try to be thorough in your analysis, I think you make too many assumptions, and your analysis is human-centric to the extreme. Awesome piece of work, but you could do better.

      Wake of Ashes still stuns both Demons and Undead so they are still vulnerable to the light. Which is crazy because no void aligned creature has any weaknesses against the Light even though they should. Back in Classic the Forsaken would actually take extra damage from Paladins which is one of the reasons why it had to be nerfed, Forsaken players were complaining about how strong they were so it forced a nerf and through that a retcon so that characters like Calia could exist.

    Something I already mentioned in the video but it's worth saying it again. This series is my opinions based on the lore facts. Obviously people will disagree with some of my conclusions and that is fine. Certain areas in the lore, especially when it comes to the power of classes are very gray and can be interpreted in many ways. There are just so many factors (race, experience, specific abilities) that its next to impossible to make a completely solid ranking.The reality is every class can beat all the others but in order for me to form some sort of a system based on the history and current lore I have to rank classes based on their average strength.
    Also, for the comparisons I've mainly used a human paladin just for the sake of video length. Of course other paladins are not exactly the same as I did mention briefly.

      Paladin in average is below Warlock, Mage and DH and DK. But the strongest ones can definitely reach insane level of power just like Druid, Shaman and Priest.
      But to be fair, there isn't any bad DK because it's an elite, paladin aren't. The elite of Paladin are as strong as DK, they maybe even have the match-up advantage due to the light.

      The paladins were created to combat the ORIGINAL death knights, and definitely did kick their asses. Mostly because the original death knights were simply warlocks put into the bodies of dead alliance warriors.
      However, the later death knights, such as Arthas and the playable death knights were designed to be on equal footing, if not superior to paladins. As that was what the Lich King intended to combat. Paladins and the Light.

    I always found that a Paladin's strength was based on their faith in the Light. The greater their faith, the more powerful they were. I acknowledge that Warlocks and Mages can unleash more destructive power than Paladins, but I felt that it's cause a Paladin is more honed and trained in their power. They aren't out to destroy everything through shear power, but tap into what they needed to overcome their seemingly impossible foe.

    I think paladins are one of the strongest classes since they are "heroic class" in lore, f.e. warriors and hunters are generic cannonfodder (like city guards), mages, druids, shamans, monks and priests are also common and most of them are rather weak. However, classes like demon hunters, paladins, death knights and warlocks are rare and elite, carefully chosen to be inducted in this organizations (in case of warlocks, these are powerful mages who want even more) , so average paladin is much stronger than average warrior (in lore).

    • @Doronsmovies

      Not really, maybe the initial order of the Silver Hand but that doesn't apply to all paladins. In the recent times with the Argent Dawn, Argent Crusade and the reformed Silver Hand many can go through training to become a paladin. I wouldn't call other classes cannon fodder as almost all of them require intense practice. It's not like anyone can become a mage, priest, druid or a shaman. There are varying levels of power with any class, a mage that just began his training would be weak but at his full potential he would be very powerful. Just looking at the warriors, even though regular soldiers are technically warriors there are special orders such as the Blademasters that are much stronger than an average warrior.

    Tirion also had a territorial disadvantage when his shield broke (noted by Guldan) and when fighting Arthas at ICC (noted by Arthas). Tirion also had the advantage at Light's Hope (as noted by Tirion himself) - so it seems the ground you fight on had a role to play. And I thought Arthas brought greater numbers to the fight against Uther.

  • @mariannekelstrup7633
    @mariannekelstrup7633 8 років тому +50

    One of your arguments makes 0 sense. How can u honestly say that paladins have no shields that stand up to the destructive power of a warlock or mage? They are the only class with a shield that grants complete immunity from all sources of damage. Using Tirion as an example to dispute this is not even legit since it is not just a random warlock or a mage who breaks his bubble, but rather a strong demon summoned by Gul'dan (who is not your average warlock). You are right in the sense that paladins do not posess major destructive force, but you kind of skip over the fact that they offer utility that is unmatched by any other class, except maybe druids, with abilities for just about any situation. From a lore perspective paladins are just as much a prestige class as death knights and demon hunters, so how can you say that a demon hunter would win the matchup for sure?Arthas preferred to convert paladins specifically because they are elite compared to your average fighter. That and he probably found it ironic and amusing.

    • @luanhenrique8733
      @luanhenrique8733 8 років тому

      Mages, priests and demon hunters also have immunity shield paladins arent the only ones. His ideas are based lorewise not how you play that class in-game. Tyrion was using divine shield and the demon was so powerfull that he broke through it. Warlocks are the only ones who has that powerfull destructive force. But again, based on lore not how you play in-game otherwise it would be broken

    • @mariannekelstrup7633
      @mariannekelstrup7633 8 років тому +5

      When did I ever say the other classes had no shields? What I said was: He cannot simply ignore the fact that paladins do have a shield that blocks magic, based on Tyrion's bubble bursting vs. a very powerful demon. If an average lock/mage vs. an average paladin, the shield is likely to hold, both lore and gameplay suggests this. That does not mean the paladin wins by default, in fact i'd say it wouldn't change the outcome in most cases, but it sure as hell is different from dismissing the shield as being of no consequence. Basically, saying that any warlock and any mage could fry a paladin's shield is wrong that is what i'm getting at, that was my point. Regarding the demon hunter vs paladin I consider them evenly matched.

    • @Doronsmovies
      @Doronsmovies  8 років тому +8

      Of course that is an extreme, but the power of Tirion is also an extreme. An average paladin would be way below him, especially since he had the Ashbringer. With the sword he was the strongest paladin around with a great protection of the Light. I'm comparing extremes with extremes. On an average level of course a paladin could block but if a powerful paladin was faced with a powerful warlock the magics could overwhelm him.
      Why am I saying that a demon hunter would win in a match up? The Illidan novel. Demon hunter have an essence of a demon inside them and their reflexes, speed and abilities are super human. There is no melee class that would be able to outmatch a demon hunter in hand to hand combat, without some legendary weapon or magical powers.

    The only other class that I say could stand up to a paladin are Shamans. They are similarly empowered and martial in nature.
    Keep in mind, a paladin is an elite warrior WITH divine powers. With lore in mind:
    Warriors are basically just a guy with a melee weapon.
    Priests have divine powers but are not primarily geared for combat or paladins would not have been needed in the first place.
    Warlocks, Deathknights and Demon Hunters all rely on demonic, shadow or undeath to empower them. To the paladin, this makes them prey, for paladins are empowered specifically to fight such foes.
    Rogues are just a guy with a knife.
    Monks are just a martial artist.
    Mages have powerful arcane abilities but the paladin at one point or another has abilities to hose such things such as Fire and Ice resistance auras. Yes they were fairly weak but that was for balance purposes. Realistically speaking, they would be far more powerful.
    Hunters? Just a guy with a bow and a pet.

    I have to agree with some other commenters on a few points:
    1) You seem to be placing the average mage too high on the scale. The average mage afaik isn't insanely destructive and could have their attacks deflected by a paladin and other classes. I think you're right about warlocks, warlocks (like demon hunters) are exceptional in every case.
    2) You do too much of the "a good paladin is good and an ok paladin is ok". Yeah, we know they vary. That's obvious. Tell us things we don't necessarily know, like how an average paladin (or whatever class) performs in their intended role and compare with them in an intended role.

    I remember thinking, back in the day when WoW was released, that paladins didn't really sit on the level of the other classes, since they were a Hero in WC3 (although they were also upgraded knight units in WC2). If only we'd had the concept of a hero class back then, but alas.

      I think in a 1v1 rogues are reaaaally strong, because they are basically assassins. So they know how and where to strike to land a single fatal blow. They also excel at finding a weak spot in a blink of an eye, so for example, a paladin vs a rogue:
      The paladin would see a poisoned huge ass dagger in his chest before he could cast a bubble.
      Threats for rogues: DH, because of their cheating sight and their swiftness, giving rogues a hard time
      Mages, because their magic can also detect invisible things and may blink away if they look behind them swiftly enough
      DK, because one does not simply stab something that was already dead before

    I don't think Paladins are "warrior-ish" as for the melee combat sector. A warrior is a man devoted to a life of war and carnage, and it comes in mind a germanic barbarian, rushing at enemies while enraged, mad and blowing their many weapons. Paladins, by the other hand, are, in the melee aspect of the fight, knights, cavaliers, these historical european soldiers who carried more the status of "elites", they trained really well also on martial combat, but I'd say that paladins aim towards a more specific weaponry combat and discipline, as well as warriors are multi-weaponry users. Paladins remind me of roman pretorians, king's guardsman and the aforementioned knights. In WoW's perspective, we can say also that a paladin would abandon much of the ways of a warrior's melee moves to favor his energy in using the stronger and more effective holy light to damage enemies. As for a warrior, good armor and defencive combat will mitigate damage, you can't do much thing against one holding the power which created the universe.

    • @AngeloFZ

    I heard that in the old RPG books, experienced paladins were described as getting physically larger and more powerful over time, because channeling the light through their physical attacks and defenses, and buffing and healing themselves all the time, caused their bodies to get sort of "supercharged" and develop to greater health and strength.
    Of course, they were old, and based on WCIII lore and not WoW lore (I suspect that the idea of them getting bigger and buffer was partly to explain why paladins in-game looked so huge and square...), but I'm not sure if it's ever been explicitly refuted, and most paladins DO seem to be particularly athletic. Is there any lore anywhere that's currently canon and that either refutes or supports the idea of the Light enhancing paladins physically, in that cumulative, passive way?

    So Doron who do you think would win in a duel between Illidan and Tirion Fordring?
    Illidan would be at his Black Temple power level empowered by only himself and his main weapons.
    Tirion would be at his ICC power level.
    I think Illidan would not be able to kill or even mortally wound Tirion due to his sheer defensive might and tenacity as seen in ICC and the Broken Shore surviving days being submitted to fel torture.
    I do think Illidan would have no problem getting close and personal though.
    There is also the case of how the Ashbringer would react to touching fel blood or even the Twin Blades of Azzinoth as they are inferior weapons. The Ashbringer shattered Frostmourne and I believe it would do the same to the Twin Blades of Azzinoth.

      You really need to read the Illidan novel and Arthas: Rise of the Lich King if you think that comparison makes sense. Just because someone defeated someone doesn't mean he is stronger than an opponent the other one fought. By your logic Maiev defeated Illidan therefore she is stronger than him and even Magtheridon. However in the book Illidan defeats Maiev and her army and she was already defeated previously by Kael'Thas and Lady Vashj in Warcraft III. Another example of the same logic would be saying that the fel monster that defeated Tirion is obviously stronger than the Lich King.

    • @tiffles3890
      @tiffles3890 8 років тому +1

      With priests of equal power, the Elune priestess is going to get rekt during day, because while Elune's power in lore is usable during day, its less so during day.
      While during night, both are at an equal footing/fighting chance since as far as the lore is concerned, Holy Light's power is not dependent on night or day (atleast if you're not a Tauren sun-priest?).
      Plus Elune's power is probably limited to Azeroth (makes you wonder how they explain them using it in outland, in wow). Whereas the Holy light is a universally present phenomenon, which existed even before the universe did. You can wield the Holy light just as effectively (can do it even more effectively on holy ground) even if you're in the twisting nether.

    I'm just going to point out a little flaw in all of this. One about Paladins not being as great in arms as general warriors. Theres honestly no reason that they couldn't be and remember that Knights of stormwind were losing to Orcs, until Paladins came along by your logic a knight should be far superior in arms to a paladin but that's just not the case and also I feel that you brushed off the whole empowerment thing as if it was nothing. This empowerment of the light throughout their bodies is a major factor in what makes a Paladin able to stand up to things so much bigger than himself in ability or size.

Yeah it wouldn't be effective offesnively but defensivly it would protect and heal them. Imagine fighting a guy in plate, already Hard to hurt, but everytime you do succeed he heals or simply uses a shield to block it.

  • @Lampsu
    @Lampsu 8 років тому

    I just have to bring this one up. You say around 4 minute mark how broken have had similar thing happen to them (as in they lost their faith/resolve and therefore lost the light) but based on the short story Unbroken that is available at the official site (which I would therefore rate quite high on the lore accuracy) broken actually have quite the opposite happen to them. worldofwarcraft.com/en-us/story/short-story/unbroken
    To give short version of what happens with light and the broken: Nobundo is wielding light without any trouble. He inhales some weird miasma and this miasma has demonic magic in it at some levels, which (based on description and story) permanently severs his and others like him connection to Light. Based on description draenai have their connection severed forcibly from the Light and this causes them to become broken.
    So at least in this or these cases, the paladin losing their connection with the light happens first and the loss of this connection causes doubt in them, rather than the other way around as described in the video.
    As for the DH versus paladin and what happens with Tirion, I would say that the demon/fel magic is close to that of void magic, but at the same time different. Paladins could be thought to be best against void magic (i.e. shadow priest) and undead. Fel magic could be thought to be amalgamation of Fire and void magic and therefore to be slightly more efficient against paladins, though at the same time more easily countered than pure fire magic. Warlock would have most likely more trouble with paladin than a mage, as mage just wields quite powerful arcane powers and could just most likely (provided strong enough mage) overwhelm a paladin, where as warlocks magics either have affinity or are purely based on void magic.
    Paladins more often have their light magic being defensive, restorative and enhancing which in sense again would suggest that their ability to protect themselves from void magic would be the excelling effect, rather than smiting their foes.
    These are obviously not in game things that are being talked about but the lore behind what the game is based on.

    EDIT: I finished the video and I'm happy to report that at least he was very fair in judging their relative power levels to other classes. Although, I think Doronsmovies is way to biased towards mages and warlock casters. The likes of Gul'dan and Jiana, the type of mages that could crush every other class are of heroic power levels. The average mage would be utterly destroyed by an average or either weaker paladin as they cannot rely on summoning meteorites or colossal demons but, instead usually have to rely on small projectiles or direct magical attacks, both of which can be blocked by the paladin's defensive magic.
    The strongest mage would be able to kill the strongest paladin, but that's it.

    I think it's important mentioning that 'blood elves' can be paladins, just like a human, although its just a lot more uncommon. A lot of the previous blood elves, became high elves and therefore disconnected to the new Sunwell, but they are still paladins through faith only. As well as some blood elves the same!

    Interestingly, tauren ''paladin'' NPCs in game themselves talk about the ''Light', back in MoP and WoD, while we know they are ''sun paladins'' technically, we don't really know much about their Earthmother, except they worship its other part in counter to Night elf worship of the moon. By that we could say that its just Elune both races worship even if the tauren themselves don't know it., high possibility since the tauren have had a high affinity for all things Nature long before night elevs even existed and even had relations with Cenarius before aswell.

    • @Kristers_K
      @Kristers_K 7 років тому

      Tauren existed when elves were still trolls, they were one of the primitive races on Azeroth along with trolls and others. When you read specifically about druidism, the tauren befriended Cenarius when they were still primitive due to their love and care for all things nature, they are the children of wilds, after a while Cenarius left em and later on gained connection with the highborne elves, teaching Malfurion Stormrage druidism who became the first mortal druid.
      We do not know if Cenarius taught tauren any druidism during their time together, but since Malfurion is considered the first mortal druid, then we have to assume he didn't and they were just friends.
      But the point is, Cenarius has a great respect for the tauren race because of their affinity to nature since the beginning of their existence.

    IMO night elfs were tuned to priesthood long before vrykul evolved/devolved into humans and coming to the Light. We even see that in the Well of Eternity dungeon with Tyrande using the Light. Not trying to be rude or anything. But I do agree that humans seems to be the most attuned to the Light, well expect from the Draenei.

    Despite you not responding to others who proved my points in the DK video something i gotta say here:
    DKs were NOT made to counter Paladins. DKs existed quite a bit before Paladins were created and paladins were created specifically to counter DKs (WC2) that Paladins proved to be usefull against the undead of the scourge was also quite logically but thats not what they were made for.
    And while a DKs powers can surpass that of a Paladin, in most cases the Paladin will win against the DK. Thats what they were made for and their powers greatly hurt Undead (and thus most DKs but MOST! Not all DKs are undead there are also unliving ones which is quite a difference) and their powers counter fel magic (as the first DKs were warlocks) so they also kinda counter Demonhunters. And against your DH fanboyism DHs are not as good in melee as warriors are and are not used to fighting against armor. They are specialised troops against demons - anything not demon has a rather good chance against them.
    A warrior will usually win against a Pala as he has a lot more combat training and experience in special also fighting armored enemies and he wont be, other than DKs or DHs, in special hurt by the powers of the Paladin.

    • @beefzerkee

      I guess it unliving would be something that didn't actually die, but is just displaying the traits of an undead character... kinda like Arthas? That's my best guess lol

    • @OrkarIsberEstar
      @OrkarIsberEstar 8 років тому +2

      Baconman161 Undead have all the benefits and disadvantages of undeath while unliving basicly are still alive, they still have bodily functions, needs and capabilities but to a lower degree than alive beings and also share some benefits of undeath like theoretical immortality. Basicly unliving DKs are not in special affected by lightmagic but they also still can run out of stamina. For this scenario an unliving DK would have a much better chance against a Paladin than an undead one.

    • @OrkarIsberEstar
      @OrkarIsberEstar 8 років тому

      Matthew Cohn that is very correct and Arthas is a good example. Unliving DKs are basicly still alive and slowly degrade into undeath - they share a few traits of being alive and a few of being undead, kinda having the benefits of both worlds to a lesser degree

      Arthas may have never died and been raised as a Death Knight. But after his fight with Illidan he cut out his own heart so he wouldn't be held back by human emotions and stuff. And you have to think that all that necromantic power would've pushed him into being an Undead. And unliving by definition means dead just so you know. lol

    Hey, Doronsmovies! I'm a big fan of yours and just recently joined the Warcraft game and I'm still new to the lore but from what I've gathered I feel Paladins may be more than a match for a Demon Hunter but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong! Don't Demon Hunters drink and eat demons? Would this not technically make them part Demon and repelled by the Light? Adding that to a rigorous combat training, heavy armour and use of the Light I feel like they'd easily outclass a Demon Hunter in close quarters combat. The Demon Hunter would be faster, yes, but ultimately I feel with the Light repelling them, heavy armour deflecting most of their slashing attacks and then their combat training would come into play and finish the weakened Demon Hunter off? I mean if they're knights they've gone through some serious training in not only how to use their armour but weapons to maximum efficiency. Anyways, I'm not trying to say you're wrong. Just curious about your thoughts on this! Again, big fan!

      Well Demon Hunter are the strongest class in combat skill wised because they were really skilled warriors, mages etc... They could be pretty much everyone and also they get even more empowered by fel . They are specifically trained to fight stronger and slower opponents and their willpower is even stronger than a paladin which is his most distinct trait . If you search about their lore you can see that they fight a demon within for pretty much all their lives will agonizing from the alterations if their bodies and minds . Soo being able to endure this means that they are quite powerful . All in all as i mentioned dh pretty much outperform paladins in everything . Yes light counters fel but things like that only favor you when you are prety much in the same power with your opponent so i think that demon hunter as general are pretty more powerfull

      I'd just like to point out (with respect of course) that yes we have seen Paladin vs Death Knight matches so we know their limits and strenghts but while we haven't seen these new Demon Hunters in action we clearly have kicked their arsess in Black Temple (and thats a canon moment) so I say that while it is indeed a case-to-case thing I'd still say that while the Demon hunters a swift they are no different fighters than the rogues just they cant hide in the shadows and they can actually fly but they are actually agile the same way so I'd say that while we don't know too much about the Demon Hunters we definetly know 1 thing we kicked their arses many times in Burning crusade and I don't think that such a class should be above of..... well.... most classess.....
      A new hero race? It is indeed one.
      We can finally get to see what they did? Sure thing!
      Are they awesome and badass? Most certainly indeed!
      Are they as strong as many people speculate them? In my opinion NOPE! Yeah Arthas was empowered by the Lich King buhu Illidan was empowered by the skull of Gul'daniel so...... I could rather say that they were evenly matched considering the fact that Gul'daniel was the STRONGEST WARLOCK WHO EVER WAS! and While yeah Ner'zul was made to be the lich king I'm sure Gul'daniel's power was far more stronger and if the legion used that 1 bloody skull to empower something when the legion lorewisely attacked for the 2nd time then I highly doubt that they were not evenly matched and yet Illidan got his ass kicked by Arthas Menethil and by basically everyone in Burning Crusade Keep in mind these Demon Hunters are still the demon Hunters we fought against at the Black Temple so I don't think that they are above not just the death knight but basically a lot of classess of course a Demon Hunter could probably beat ranged classess (unless the hunter dudes are really swift to give them an Arrow to the Knee or the Mages are burning them down and Warlocs? You know their strenght guys priests? okay they are rather good in groups........ though Anduin for a priest is pretty OP so.... case-to-case with them as well #Anduinisawesome) we've seen the Demon Hunters fight with us and while yes we are the ultimate badass awesome Heroes of Azeroth who did EVERYTHING while the lore-heroes just were there helping us out but now the Demon Hunters can become the Heroes of Azeroth as well which means that they are no longer defined by the simple fact that okay we beat them because it was what we were suposed to do! and the fact that they gonna get some serious buffs in the close future I'd say that Warriors are still the better tanks and there are a ton of DPS-es which are overpowering them gamewisely and I know this is a video about lorewise facts but now that we got the demon hunters in game lore will not gonna protect them from becoming stronger or weaker in the eyes of the people
      I said everything with respect and I don't want to start a fight with this I just pointed out the weaknesses of the Demon Hunters as well because yes they fought against demons in (well I wouldn't say in their entire life but for quite a long time) and yes they are able to basically keep their demonic side in check and I know that they got to the basically homeworld of the Nathrezim and I know that they managed to beat the living crap out of the demons there but considering the fact that we kicked their arses in Burning Crusade and Maiev was able to seal away kind of a lot of demon hunters and gamewisely (so in game) we have better tanks and stronger dps-es as well
      Give them credits where credits deserve to be given but don't give them more than they deserve I've always wanted to play with this class and I'm happy to play with it finally but during my long playthrough as a Mage/Paladin/Monk/Shaman/Priest/Warrior/Death Knight I still would say that the Demon Hunters fun but they wont be the strongest till they get buffed (or Shadowpriests and Death Knights and Warriors and Paladins) get nerfed
      Sorry for writing this much I just wanted to explain everything and if you have a question about my points or would want to point out something that I've missed I'll try to answer more well than I did now

    • @panosaman5856
      @panosaman5856 8 років тому +1

      Well with all respect if you want to share your opinion read the lore first .Because every single demon hunter was in the mission on mardum . The closest thing to a demon hunter were common blood elve warriors on training to become demon hunters ... When they returned Maiev used a spell to imprison the dh on their on fel energies because they couldnt fight them .Also Illidan beat the shit out of arthas who 1. Had frostmourne ( one of the most powerful weapons ever existed ) while illidan had his warglaives who are just known only because they are the first warglaives despite that they are common blades . In dh order hall campaign it is clear that the warglaives of the deceiver and the aldrachi glaives are the most powefull warglaives , 2. he was exactly under the frozen throne and illidan just absorbed the essence of guldan which is clear that he didnt learned any kind of tricks before he went on outland for the rest of his life . He got just empowered by it . Despite those points illidan beat the shit out of Arthas which is clear in the lore that he got a really really really lucky hit on Illidan while he was preparing to finish him off . Well that can happen to anyone . Also he was imprisoned for 10000 years ... How the hell he can fight like before ? Anyway comparing how powerful classes are because of some "Elite" battles is the stupiest thing to do seriously . Like every dk is arthas and every dh is Illidan or smt ?Also you show everyone that you know nothing about the lore because you compare in game stats with the lore.

    • @ricsiheffi5749
      @ricsiheffi5749 8 років тому

      Well (with all respect matey) I only compared the game stats because right now I can so basically the demon hunters now only as strong as they will be in game and until they wont have any epic hero to show off their might they will be just another race in WoW and the players will probably decide in a PvP who is stronger
      And now I see what you're sayin' about the demon hunter apprentices and I see then why were they easy to be defeated
      2nd thing I didn't compare the Death Knights and the Demon Hunters because Arthas and Illidan had a rather impressive fight in W3 but I compare the Death Knights and the Demon Hunters because I don't think that the Demon Hunters should be praised up as much as some would do
      Of course yes I love them and Illidan is actually one of my favorite dudes lorewisely (and by the way I'm hoping that at some point he'll get together with Maiev but that probably will never happen due to their past) and we've seen them attacking the home of the Nathrezim but come on only because they did that for the first time shouldn't give them the edge over the other characters after all while they fought with the legion first we just didn't had the chance to do it this far.....
      Or when we did we already managed to beat (maybe not a hundred or thousand of random demons maybe nathrezims but) some of the legion's leaders for example there was Kil'jaeden, Balnazzar, (these two are coming back from the Twisting nether as well to face with us again so we'll see what will be with them) Archimonde, (though we have no idea if he is dead or not because we didn't have a fight with him in the twisting nether this far or we had just it wasn't been implemented in WoW but who knows) Mal'ganis (though that was rather a dungeon fight) and a lot of others
      Now we may not have fought as much demons as they did but we fought with the big leaders of the Legion (and a couple of other dudes but thats another story) and I know the Demon Hunters have demons captured within themselves and I know that that should mean something but in my opinion this is a double edged blade while some lesser demons are captured within some demon hunters there are more cunning ones who will await the time when the Demon Hunters become weak and they can take over and on the long run the Demon Hunters can't fight forever remember Illidan only lasted this long because he didn't captured any demon to himself but he was empowered by Sargeras himself and even with the skull of Gul'daniel so basically he had not fight to deal with whatsoever
      Now I believe that some Demon Hunters will prevail and some of them will be the Ultimate weapons against the Legion and while it may seems like that I'm a hater or a flamer (call it what you wish it) I love the Demon Hunters and the fact that they have sacrificed everything to ensure the future of Azeroth is just marvelous but in the end they all with have their demons to fight with and to deal with both literally and figuratively (and no I didn't readt the Illidan novel yet I plan on doing that in the next week so this is the reason that I may not know every detail about the demon hunters if we'd get any answer to our questions there)
      And about the fight with Arthas and Illidan.... I didn't brought it up because okay Arthas has won and because of that the Death Knights should be supreme NOPE! I only brought it up because Arthas while in the novel he was the luckiest bastard that I've ever seen (seriously what the freak? WHY?! In W3 he was so BADASS!) but in W3 and in many wiki sides (before the Arthas:Rise of the Lich King book that is) he was the tankiest dude and by the way he was trained by the best that the Alliance had to offer Uther the Lightbringer in my book the 2nd strongest Paladin on Azeroth (the 1st is Tirion and soon Anduin Wrynn will be if Velen's prophecy will come true) Muradin Bronzebeard a good Dwarf Warrior (and one of the most warmhearted people on Azeroth) and Pretty much even with their training he shouldn't have been a match to Illidan and even with the Frostmourne and the Lich King's empowering him this all shouldn't have meant anything against a guy Who have been empowered by Sargeras and the Skull of Gul'dan now I know Illidan has been imprisoned for 10k years and possibly he may have got a little bit numb throughout the years but still he clearly had the edge over Arthas but Arthas (while in the book he was a lucky bastard) in W3 and in a lot of sources while he tried to overcome Illidan he saw some of his weakpoints and he took the chance and in those sources he beat him on his own (probably with some buffs from good ol' Ner'zul but that only would have worked on his efficency not on his move sets everything that he did was been done by him)
      Now as I said I only compared the Demon Hunters's game stats because as I said I can and due to the fact that they were imprisoned (not for 10k years obviously but) for 10 years they must have got numb a little bit as well and I don't just use Game stats but I want to say that probably the Demon Hunters are like the Rogues just empowered by the demons much like the Warlocs (and Blizzard could have made out of them a ranged class as well) which means that while they are more efficent considering the fact that with their eyes they can see basically anything and everything and while they are empowered by random demons and they are very agile they still can be overpowered by Warriors who kinda got to the Olympus/Valhalla of Azeroth (which means that they are rather empowered by great beings) now About the Paladins I'm not sure but considering the fact that they can use the light to purge their demoic sides I'd still say that a Draenei Vindicator Paladin would a better match to them because the Draenei Vindicators are basically the most tankiest fighters who maybe embodied with the light but they still mostly focused on their fighting skills and basically became the perfect retribution paladins but against human or other paladins I say that the Demon Hunters *could* over power them but thats really up to the Demon Hunters and the Paladins but with the Death Knights I'd say they'd have a rather interesting fight (and not because Arthas and Illidan had a rather impressive fight but) because while the Demon Hunters are agile and can become basically giant demons if needed (thats of course up to the individual demon hunter if he became rather like Illidan or did not) but the Death Knights throughout those years while the Demon Hunters slept learned how to raise the dead (While in game if you are Unholy death knight with the artifact weapon you may only be able to raise 20 but I'm sure that if we'd bring that out in a more lore way than I'm sure that that 20 can be a 50 or a 100 as well depending on the death knight) and I'm sure the Demon Hunters are strong enough to overcome any obstacles and come on they fought with demons nathrezim even they can handle a couple of undeads gargolyles abominations and dead dragons and while some Demon Hunter would immediately jump to the Death Knight ending the battle with a single blow I'm pretty much sure that a Death Knight (who actually thinks before the fight) would probably only bring them up not as just aid to the fight but as distraction to attack the Demon Hunter while he or she is distracted by the minions
      Now I know its a case-to-case fight with all of them but with all of this I just wanted to say it (not just here) that please don't declare the demon hunters to be the "strongest class" lorewisely because that would (in my opinion) or rather could make others think that the deeds of other races are lesser and thats not true and some people could even believe that the demon hunters are just awesome because they are awesome ten years ago when I've started my journey in the World of Azeroth (with the Warcraft games I've started my journey more then ten years ago) I've always wanted to have a demon hunter guy and when I saw people just having the Warglaives of Azzinoth I immediately thought that OMG THAT GUY IS AWESOME and I basically thought to myself that the Demon Hunters are the strongest and Illidan is the best of all (besides Arthas because I somehow liked his story much more and even now after reading both the War of the Ancients triology and the Arthas Rise of the Lich King I still find Arthas to be more human more closer to us) but then I started seeing more and more in the story and I've seen enough to say that I was wrong not because in Burning Crusade we had those guys beaten but because just like King Varian (and Nixxiom) I've seen brave heroes sacrificing their lives for the good of all and I've seen everything this far that was needed to be seen I remained neutral protected both Garrosh and Jaina (and even Sylvanas at some point though seeing what she did in Gilneas and what she is doing now of course I don't mean things at the broken isles when she left Varian and the others because yes they were overwhelmed thats it case closed I say that right now while Genn is kind of has lost everything excluding his daughter to Sylvanas so right now I have to protect Genn in that matter) so you get my point I've seen a lot and just seeing people now declaring that *"The demon hunters are the top knotch best and brightest and the best classess lorewisely"* is just hearthbreaking considering the fact that while we were the ones who imprisoned them we still fought for a long time many paladins priests warrios soldiers of both the horde and the alliance bled just to protect Azeroth and seeing some people ignoring the fact that not once Warlocs showed off their teeths as well (after the greenfire questline) that they are willing to give up everything as well to save Azeroth (and some of them just for power but thats another story) the Death Knights even today they patrol all around Azeroth to protect it they basically became the Lin-Kuei clan of the Warcraft universe under the leadership of Mograin and the Paladins like Tirion and the Knights of the Argent crusade are still fighting to make Andorhal and the other places to be a part of the kingdoms again and there are a lots of people out there who get ignored from time to time they ignore the fact that Okay Demon Hunters are great and all of that they sacrificed everything but look at the Paladins of the Draenei or the Death Knight of every race they did all of that as well just without enslaving a demon to use their powers and sorry if I may have been a little bit offensive but I really just wanted to point out that the Demon Hunters are NOT the strongest race in Azeroth not even if we'd consider their lores as well here
      Now I'll read the Illidan novel soon and I may read something that could explain a lot of my questions but even then I don't believe that the Demon Hunters are the strongest race in Azeroth because as I said look at the facts there are people who have given more and more things from time to time just to save Azeroth and have been stronger and stronger from time to time (also Shamans have the Doomhammer............. and the Paladins the Ashbringer..... and the Death Knight a wannabe Frostmourne pair of blades.....) do they have their flaws yes most definetly but unlike some of the demon hunters (Who actually believed that they are the best and the strongest and that Illidan was right when he said that *ONLY* they are capable of defeating the Legion) unlike them many Paladins (like Tirion) Priests (like Anduin) Warriors (like Varian) Shamans (like Thrall) and etc. they have seen their flaws they have encountered with their inner demons as well with their rage and hatred and they made their weaknessess as well into strenght and became heroes that they couldn't imagine themselves as (Tirion didn't believed that he could be a paladin again Anduin was on the right path but as much as his father Varian learned from him that not all orcs are the same and that peace is indeed the way to go Anduin had to learn it in the hard way that to preserve peace and sometimes to achieve it he has to be willing to fight for it and Thrall? Well..... he was bruised and beaten by the humans he has lost his parents to Gul'dan he has lost a lot of things on his road but in the end he didn't became a raging fool a warmonger while he had every right to it but he have seen it first hand that the horde and the alliance are not so different and that there must be something within this peace thingy)
      The Demon Hunters are strong really strong but not the strongest and this is what I always want to point out that while they are basically great weapons against the legion they are not the ultimate weapon against them because Unity is the ultimate weapon fighting for those that people care about and the fact that nobody should be blinded by rage thats what is the ultimate weapon against them.... small kindessess, good deeds, family, love, all that others would call cliché THOSE are the real Ultimate Weapons against not just the legion but agaisnt all dark beings I've learned this not just from WoW but from other stories as well if one is blinded by rage that those ones are closer to their doom than they realise but those who are keeping a clear mind even in the greatest fight and those who fight for others for the ones they care about THOSE are stronger......

    I actually think shadow priests could best paladins because shadow priests are not absent of the light, they basically use the light the same way that Jedi's use the dark side. The light is basically "the force"

    • @albertmas3752
      @albertmas3752 6 років тому

      Not exactly. The "dark side" doesn't exist as a thing or something usable. The only thing that exists is the force and the difference is how it is used. Think of the Force as a scalpel. In the hands of a surgeon it saves hundreds of lives. In the hands of a serial killer it will kill hundreds of lives. Anyway a shado2 paladin is useless.
      However the Light and the Void are 2 really different things/entities.

    actually the attack on lights hope chapel wasn't made by a superior force of death knights, most of the attackera was common ghouls and there were only a handful of actual elite scourge like death knights and the death knights themselves was the ones who actually defeated the paladins and priests wehereas the crusade mostly defeated ghouls and the like, also the crusade were attacker on hallowed ground where all undead and demonic creatures are sapped of some of their strength, some powers actually becoming useless, this affected some of the death knights more because of their former connection to the light and the crusade likewise but thei effect was purely good for them, you simply used and example where the scourge was at it's weakest and the crusade at it's strongest

    It would be more accurate to say sunwalkers are Shaman of the sun, rather than druids of the sun.
    Balance druids actually use the sun and moon. Druids are important parts of tauren society thanks to night elven influence I believe, but Shaman are spiritual leaders and that extends to sunwalkers as I see it.

    A shadow priest turns a paladin into a warrior with less skill, because the light relys on conviction and a shadow priest attacks the mind, instantly stopping the paladin from being able to use the light at all. this is of course lore wise as game play cant allow this or it would make shadow priest far too op mind controllers.

    If we base it on the concepts/text/lore and not the in game stats, I think that Paladin's would make far better infantry than warriors. Warriors as a class are very powerful and certain lore characters are very special-case powerful warriors, but the actual concept is far too human and is outdone by rogues, when you consider that an accomplished rogue can kill anyone at any time, without them realizing. Rogues would not make good footsoldiers however on a field of battle because... where the hell are you going to find an army?
    But yeah, with how you call Paladins a really well-rounded class, they would make for a great army. facilitate them with holy priests and fire/arcane mages, and I think you have a nicely themed, well rounded and versatile army.
    Warriors are just men. Or women. or non-human men and women. Which makes their accomplishments so damn impressive. But there are very few who can number among the truly impressive warriors... that aren't already jacked up powerful races.

    • @Mikazuchireborn
      @Mikazuchireborn 8 років тому

      Agreed. I feel like paladins can be considered an evolution of the warrior. While not neccessarily stronger across the board, their advantage is that they become just so much more flexible.
      Literally all of them are turtled up in heavy plate, and in a pinch fulfill any role (You'll never catch a paladin army without healers, even if none of them are specialized in that field). They're extra resilient against disease, which is REALLY important for any army, and their use of the light would make them god-tier shock troopers against undead and demons.

    • @kabrozkabroz
      @kabrozkabroz 8 років тому

      The only downside is the stigma the light carries - you can only wield the light if you believe in your purpose. Because of the way the Azerothian religions work, that means that even though you don't necessarily have to worship the light to wield the light, you would essentially need to be a zealous worshipper of the light to truly believe in your ability to wield it.
      Anyone not part of the religions would have trouble being able to find confidence in their use of the light, since they would be under the impression that the light is a religious tool
      (Personally with the abilities of the light, I think that the light is just an energy, and is in essentiality psionic power like in the starcraft series. Its uses are just far too similar to the functions of most protoss units for me to not see it that way.)
      Thus the reason I think it is not religious but is in fact mind powers that the priests/paladins and shadow priests awaken in themselves through their confidence in their beliefs.
      So Paladin's are essentially psionic warriors

      +Mikazuchi Yes, I have always seen the paladin as the Superman of Warcraft classes. Not the strongest, not the most durable, not the fastest and not the most agile. But they have all their traits in such an extreme level that they can't be outmatched. Lorewise just take a look at the ones that kept the Legion at bay in their own world (Argus) where they are most powerful: Turalyon and the draenei paladins. I don't know if you're still playing but at this point this won't be a spoil (I hope), Turalyon is alive and kicking the Legion's ass.
      Meanwhile the "powerful" Demon Hunters were struggling to fight lesser demons in the Broken Isles.
