It’s funny that people consider Robert a bad king but he had the longest reign of any king we saw in the series. He led Westeros through 18 years of relative peace. A drunk no doubt, but people forget that he was actually a capable man in some respects.
Jon Arryn did most of the mundane stuff for him though, he was a smart ruler and King Bobby was smart for making him hand. If only he had taken precautions for what would come after them. Even without the murders Arryn was way older than Bobby and would have only had left so many years to serve as hand. If his secret plan was always to rope Ned in, they could have prepared him better (like an apprentice hand if you will) as they both would have known how vicious the court is and how naïve Ned can be.
Jeez. Never imagined that. If they let those fools win by the skin of their teeth through plot armor, I’ll bet you’re right Robert could’ve devised a plan with the resources he had to win handily. Rather than sending out the blazing sword dummies til they were gone lol
And tywin would have probably poisoned night king before he reached the wall 😂😂. It's a shame we didn't get these legendary men during long night, would have been fun to see their reaction

This scene shows one thing about Cersei's brilliance: she might despise everyone except her children and Jaime, but she knows how to shut up and listen to others who know what they're talking about.
I just watched another clip where Robert smacked her because she wouldn't stop running her mouth. She tried to be tough and say "I should wear this as a badge of honor" Robert replies "where it however you want but wear it in silence or I'll honor you again"
The Dothraki alone wouldn’t make it very far in Westeros, they’d probably take the crownlands, Riverlands, Reach and stormlands before a proper counter was formed, but their cavalry would never survive the mountainous terrain in the Vale or westerlands, or make it past Moat Cailan into the North
One leader, one army, that should’ve been the fucking Night King. Half the kingdom should have died from them. Winterfell should have fallen. Cersei should have had no choice but to join. And even then, they should have failed. Until the last minute where Jon Snow, the true heir to the throne, kills the Night King at King’s Landing. Fuck everything we got instead.
The Game of Thrones Rewritten Wiki may be of interest to you. It is a fanmade edit of the final season of the show and what happened for several generations after. It's very well made so far.
Despite hearing this Cersei did the same later meeting Dothraki in open , thinking they checkmated unsullied but met Dothraki wrath at High Garden only to get decimated!
It’s moments like this that shows Robert’s true calling was never to be king. But to be a high ranking soldier for his whole life. When it came to war and battle strategy Robert was boss. He could see five moves ahead of his enemy. It’s where he felt his destiny was. The only time he was truly happy was when he was fighting. When he got the crown and the fighting was over. He just drunk himself and slipped it into any woman he saw. Simply because he was completely empty. He had no desire to play king. He just wanted to fight forever.
Can't even remember what she looked like but I know she was the one thing I ever wanted someone took her away from me and the seven kingdoms couldn't fill the holes she left behind
If that day came, and robert was tested in the field. God have mercy on dothraki, this guy is a beast himself when it comes to war. He might not be in his prime. But He still got his mind., he had ser barriston, tywin lannister, and a large army.
It would've been so interesting to see whether the threat of the undead could reignite Robert's spirit had he lived long enough until that would be the main danger for the seven kingdoms
Even all these years later, this is the single most memorable speech in the series for me. "Which is the bigger number, five or one?" still gives me chills.
The loss of his child devastated him and neither he nor their marriage recovered, turning him to drink and food. Had it never happened, who knows what could have been.
"Only a fool would face the dothraki on an open field" Unless you could field troops that can fare well against them like, I don't know, heavy knights and infantry clad in armor, which westeros has plenty of. The dothraki invasion under Viserys would have realistically been crushed unless Dany still awakened the dragons and her brother decided to wait for them to grow mature.
If they were fighting like the Westerosis then it wouldn’t even be much of a fight. They fight more like Mongols though and utilize light horse archers that can quickly maneuver. Look at the Battle of Carrhae for a good example.
@@propogandalf realistically, they'd get clapped by a disciplined and decently well armored opponent. There's no greater weapon than wisdom. Wisdom from hands on experience. Robert didn't get the crown handed to him. He earned it through sacrifice and hardship. He may be a broken man now, but back when he had a purpose he was the best mentally and physically
This was Robert's greatest moment in the entire song of ice and Fire self-accountability is probably one of the best virtues a person can have and in this moment he shows no arrogance and believing that he could win that fight he shows the skill he had during the rebellion and right after this clip ends he gives that accountability to himself by stating he doesn't have ambition or will to rule or fight all he wants to do is drink
Absolute perfect casting for Robert Baratheon. For most of the first book he's presented as a drunken oaf far past his prime, but then you get moments like this where the true Robert shines through and you can see exactly why he was able to start a Rebellion and take the throne and why people like Ned followed him.
Robert was the perfect King for times of war...he was bold, brave, decisive. And with a decent amount of honor. You can tell he doesn't like the Idea of his people being slaughtered while Cersei wouldn't care. The problem with him was, that every other aspect of ruling and politics bored the hell out of him so he was mostly drunk and let his council rule.
If Daenerys didnt had her dragons, I still believe that dothrakis, being light cavalry, would actually not be that big of a deal if everyone knew how they fought (which everyone did): a solid spear line several ranks deep with archer and crossbow support, and heavy cavalry guarding the flanks, and there you go. Or was there sonething else I failed to grasp?
I think he loved the IDEA of Lyanna more than the reality of her. I've always thought that she was the one in the Knight of the Laughing Tree's armor. I always thought she & Benjen did it as a prank. Robert wouldn't have known what to do with a woman like Lyanna Stark & I feel like they'd have made each other miserable.
He is a Victor who got killed by a pig, Robb Stark was a strategist that got betrayed, Ned was a honorable man that died as a traitor, Khal Drogo the strongest warrior that got killed by an infection, Tywin, the most powerful man in Westeros, died taking a dump, Jon, the real heir to the iron throne ended as a wanderer..
“We have dragons!” “But they have scorpions.” I don’t know which continuity HotD is using, but in the books, scorpions can’t pierce dragon scales. A scorpion has only injured one dragon in history, and that was by piercing its eye - an area not protected by scales. It was said by George to be a one-in-a-million shot.

@@bighugegamer3817 at this point they robert did not know they got dragons
It’s funny that people consider Robert a bad king but he had the longest reign of any king we saw in the series. He led Westeros through 18 years of relative peace. A drunk no doubt, but people forget that he was actually a capable man in some respects.
I don't care what anyone says. Robert was a terrific King. He gave the realm almost 18 years of Peace, safety and prosperity.
His rule had a 6 million debt. Shit would hit the fan one way or the other.
@@raphaeltw most of that was Littlefinger's mishandling of funds though
@@Huorfern Yep, but still, terrible delegation of responsabilities skill. King Robert even admitted himself in the end.
And set it up for disaster when he was gone.!
Robert wasn't stupid, he just didn't care. I really understand him lmao
King Robert would have aced the long night battle
These diehard Robert,s fan
Robert was In a class of his own when it came to battle/war tactics
He was wise to recognize the threat to the kingdoms. He was foolish enough to not realize he would never face it himself.
And she did exactly that...
Best line of the show.....Robert I always felt regretted takin the crown because he knew politics was bullshit....The man has the warriors regret, catchin glory and realizin there's nothing after but the memories.
I like moments like these. When you see Robert he's a fat idiot but you see a part of him fading away every now and then
This scene shows one thing about Cersei's brilliance: she might despise everyone except her children and Jaime, but she knows how to shut up and listen to others who know what they're talking about.
**The Lannisters proceeded to meet the Dothraki in open ground**
@@tongieboi Not by choice. They were ambushed.
The only thing that can save Dothraki are the dragons. Take the rider out, and you will see Dothraki getting killed like flies
If Bobby B and Cersei were on the same page they would have been very dangerous
One leader, one army, that should’ve been the fucking Night King. Half the kingdom should have died from them. Winterfell should have fallen. Cersei should have had no choice but to join. And even then, they should have failed. Until the last minute where Jon Snow, the true heir to the throne, kills the Night King at King’s Landing.
Fuck everything we got instead.
good idea
Who will hear us they butchered it all
True heir? A bastard? Pfft, what a joke. Young Griff is the true heir!
@@johngaelnox5447young griff is fake heir and non existent in the show that's why jon's the true heir.
The Game of Thrones Rewritten Wiki may be of interest to you. It is a fanmade edit of the final season of the show and what happened for several generations after. It's very well made so far.
Robert understood the assignment brilliantly.
Despite hearing this Cersei did the same later meeting Dothraki in open , thinking they checkmated unsullied but met Dothraki wrath at High Garden only to get decimated!
To be fair, they didn’t know the Dothraki would be there
Roberts story should also be shown.😊
they should make a series called 'the roberts rebellion; the timeline before robert became king
They have no plans 😢 for that , cuz they are now woke
It’s moments like this that shows Robert’s true calling was never to be king. But to be a high ranking soldier for his whole life. When it came to war and battle strategy Robert was boss. He could see five moves ahead of his enemy. It’s where he felt his destiny was. The only time he was truly happy was when he was fighting. When he got the crown and the fighting was over. He just drunk himself and slipped it into any woman he saw. Simply because he was completely empty. He had no desire to play king. He just wanted to fight forever.
Rob kicked the show off right there along with Ned in that first season. 👏
This looks like it’s panning back and forth between GoT and a GQ interview or smth
It's funny how Robert and Tyrion were the only two who could shut Cersei up!
And Tywin.
Can't even remember what she looked like but I know she was the one thing I ever wanted someone took her away from me and the seven kingdoms couldn't fill the holes she left behind
This actor was perfect for the role!!
If that day came, and robert was tested in the field. God have mercy on dothraki, this guy is a beast himself when it comes to war.
He might not be in his prime. But He still got his mind., he had ser barriston, tywin lannister, and a large army.
If robert would be sober he would have probably be a great king. He cared about people, honor, fighting etc.
To be fair paper beats rock 😂
To be fair the paper never beats the rock, it only covers it, rock destroys the scissor, scissor cuts the paper, paper does nothing to the rock
@@omarouayachezineddine4363and rock can crush a paper
War was Robert’s one true calling
Our purpose died with the mad king
They had a moment these 2 and I loved it, but great conversation
These shorts are making me want to rewatch all 8 seasons. Starting with number 1 of course.
I love thenway she's looking at him as she's pouring wine. She seems genuinely interested in hearing this out
"Only a fool would meet the Dothraki in an open field" and yet Cersei still tried it 🤣
Cersei was never as smart as she thought herself to br
Even Robert warned Cersei about the Dothraki 😂
It would've been so interesting to see whether the threat of the undead could reignite Robert's spirit had he lived long enough until that would be the main danger for the seven kingdoms
Even all these years later, this is the single most memorable speech in the series for me.
"Which is the bigger number, five or one?" still gives me chills.
That's how Robert became King
Man knew how to analyse his enemies plans(at least in the battlefield)
He took time to explain her she wasn't a fit for politics
Because at this point she wasn’t, she was rash and didn’t consider everything. Character arc here is when she blew up the sept
The loss of his child devastated him and neither he nor their marriage recovered, turning him to drink and food. Had it never happened, who knows what could have been.
"Only a fool would face the dothraki on an open field"
Unless you could field troops that can fare well against them like, I don't know, heavy knights and infantry clad in armor, which westeros has plenty of.
The dothraki invasion under Viserys would have realistically been crushed unless Dany still awakened the dragons and her brother decided to wait for them to grow mature.
Nah, the dothraki are that good in an open field. Plus with Viserys leadership they can add some westerosi tactics to overcome them
If they were fighting like the Westerosis then it wouldn’t even be much of a fight. They fight more like Mongols though and utilize light horse archers that can quickly maneuver. Look at the Battle of Carrhae for a good example.
@@propogandalf realistically, they'd get clapped by a disciplined and decently well armored opponent. War isn't just about individual skill and brute strength, especially in large scale battles it falls almost entirely down to tactics and equipment, and Westeros definitely had better equipped and armed soldiers with more strategically gifted leaders.
@@madronnie9725 the mongolians had decent armor, and they were highly disciplined with quite intelligent leaders, the same doesn't apply to the dothraki who are half naked, not nearly as disciplined, and don't have a strong intelligent leader at their head.
@@madronnie9725 at Carrae the decisive blow was by the heavy cataphract which the dothraki seriously lack. The Mongols too had armor plus historically European Knights were the few troops that fared decently against them especially when properly led and westeros has plenty of good commanders.
There's no greater weapon than wisdom. Wisdom from hands on experience. Robert didn't get the crown handed to him. He earned it through sacrifice and hardship. He may be a broken man now, but back when he had a purpose he was the best mentally and physically
She should've listened to him. He may have not been best king, but he was experienced warrior and general.
The way he talked, he wanted Viserys to land and start trouble.
Robert...he isn't meant to be a soldier in a garden.
Cersei cant even get through thr monologue without reachinf for the wine 😂
And Cersei actually listening with interest and respect. These kind of conversations could have made them loving power couple.
Or drinking together...
Behind his wine, Robert was a good king
Robert and Ned proved that they were the ultimate duo. Reminds me of Belisarius and Justin I
Tyaon Fury should play Bpbby B.
nah i think young robert would have a more chiseled ripped body rather than fury’s body
Great acting from Mark Addy.
If we think Robert is the main culprit of events of GOT
The war might be over for the man. But The war isn't over the man. Rob was a beast during the rebellion.
Robert just didn't give a shit about ruling. I think losing Lyanna just broke him.
@@greenmtnmellie Robert couldn't have made any woman south of the wall happy.
We needed more Robert and Cersi, being king and queen, this scene was so good the chemistry was off the charts
Robert: Only a fool would meet the Dothraki in an open field.
Night King: Yeah, about that😂😂😂
Robert's genius mind when he's not drunk
You know, if he was a general for a good ruler. The 7 kingdoms would have stayed together longer.
What’s interesting is Joffrey had a similar conversation with Cersei several seasons later about raising an army that was loyal only to the crown.
Joffrey had one good idea. The king should've had a standing army of his own instead of hoping his lords stay loyal
A royal army would have been great getting houses to send men to serve the crown
This here showed that while he was unfit to be king, he def was a brilliant Soldier with a strategic mind.
Robert Baratheon is just Godfrey First Elden Lord. He yearned for battle and was a master at it.
Robert knew this.
But as King, he made no actions to achieve it.
That's his problem.
I would love a series that focuses on Robert's conquest.
She never gave him credit for calling this
Out way before, anyone even thought about it.
King Robert was right
That 5 or 1 line is great.
Robert’s mind for Ruling was trash. But when talking about conflict, Robert was a genius.
In scenes like this you can kind of see the badass that he used to be. In the books he is the greatest
I wish robert lived a bit longer in the show. He was such an interesting character.
There was a reason why he took the throne....
He was a terrible king but a general and a warrior he was
Would love to see how he handled that hammer
“We have dragons!”
“But they have scorpions.”
I don’t know which continuity HotD is using, but in the books, scorpions can’t pierce dragon scales. A scorpion has only injured one dragon in history, and that was by piercing its eye - an area not protected by scales.
It was said by George to be a one-in-a-million shot.
he’s literally the person who’s supposed to do something about that 😭😭😭
Everyone saying he was a bad king, but i seem to remember his reign being quite peaceful.
Of course once he died, the shit hit the fan.
