I don't care who you are, if you knew about Louis Cole before watching the clowns, you all had this insane "HoLyShIt iS tHaT lOuIS cOlE WhaAAa" moment and well, if that wasn't your case, it can't even be replicated. Discovering one of your favorite, most schooled jazz musician is in fact wearing a clown costume making drum-n-bass influenced hardcore noise punk in a porta-potty is... unique. I will never experience anything like it again.
Dude, I've been listening to Cream as long as I've been alive. Of course the Jazz drummer blows peoples socks off, he is a real honest-to-god drummer, not a glorified time keeper, and he is getting to show off.
i had kinda the opposite experience, love me some clown core for about 4-5 years now, im just finding out that the drummer is a celebrated jazz guy and it makes me smile... i knew they were special, i showed people and theyd say something like "oh yeah thats funny, and creepy, i get it" meanwhile im over here thinking these guys are low key sophisticated. i guess its true what they say about jazz, its music for musicians.
Exactly my reaction rn
Yep, same here
ALEGEDLY Louis Cole. Again. ALEGEDLY
Emotion and tone are very under appreciated elements of the bands musicality.
The groove and the monotonous synth give me a feeling of anxiety and claustrophobia,
while they’re packed in a portapotty
100%
Like being stuck in a club toilet WAAAAY toooo high, and there's all the noise and bustle of the club over the music
That's the way it makes me feel haha
Awesome that you went all the way and added the synth bass at the end!
Thanks!
Cool, dude.
The most detailed analysis of the Clown Core's drums that I have seen.
Thanks dude!
Nice breakdown!
For ultra-nightmare mode, try the *two* synths AND drum line he plays over the bridge on "computers". One of the most insane technical feats I've seen done by a musician wearing a clown mask in a minivan.
Clown core is such a brilliant collaboration
6:08 - Oh my GOD, that is such a smooth down-tempo groove. I love Clown Core, but I love the GROOVE!!!!!
I love that tempo so much. When the ride/hi hat is slow and the rest has that much character, it feels so cool. One similar but intense groove that comes to mind is the part right after the intro in Micro Aggressions by Animals as Leaders.
I've had a difficult time revealing Clown core to individuals unfamiliar with playing and creating music. The brilliance goes right over their heads.
Sounds great, but how do we know that's REALLY what he's playing, without the clown horn on your kit?
Pls forgive me for not including that
I know bro. And how can we tell what he's playing whilst wearing a mask?!
They've done live touring both wearing clown masks and tuxedos...
@@brettclurdrumsit's probably copyright lol
Cuz he does it live and I’ve seen it (ballz btw) and cuz it’s Louis Cole. He’s a multi-instrumentalist and maybe half a genius. Maybe 3/4.
For me, I found clowncore and honestly I didn't know what to think. Super talented and I kept asking myself who the hell are these guys? Then about two years later I discover Louis Cole. It still blows me away but I found him through clowncore before I knew who he was and still didn't know for years. Clowncore short-circuited everything I thought I knew about music for a moment or more. And I'm so glad. I'm a big fan of Louis and all of the cool kids he jams with. Including Knower.. (Genevieve)
He's one of the best! Crazily enough, he's actually one of JD Beck's biggest inspirations, and you can clearly see where all of JD's 32nd note inspired playing comes from.
That's Louis Cole??? I saw that video when it came out and my mind was instantly blown... Stumbled on Cole years later with his Knower stuff and was blown away again but never connected the two.
haha yeah! It's an ongoing joke that Clown Core is Louis Cole and Ben Wendel but it's meant to be a secret. The drumming style is just too noticeable lol
Impressive breakdown. Adding the synth takes some next-level coordination
Luckily it just matches the bass drum pattern. Don’t think I’d be able to do it otherwise haha
Speaking of next level coordination, i came across a video randomly named; Dubliners the octopus jig. It's impressive, i thought let's just drop that here. Worth checking out.
Clown Core is underrated as fuck.
As a guitarist that occasionally plays simple drums and tries to learn some cool techniques beyond my level... I was not ready for this video lmao.
Great teaching, Brett! I'm not a good drummer, but you broke this down in a way makes it feel attainable.
Great tutorial, he makes it look so effortless that you almost forget how crazy this is
Playing the groove with the keyboard in slow tempo makes it more badass sounding. So I have work more on my left foot, a bit, again, on my ghost notes (as you do), and buy one of those tiny keyboards. Thanks for the breakdown. ❤
Ohhhh that's Louis cole,
This group makes so much sense
Nice !!! I love Clown Core and Louis Cole in general. He is my inspiration nowadays. Thanks!
Such a great muso
Great video! This is the first video I've seen with beats like this broken down. Thank you!
This is absolutely lovely, thanks for putting this together. I'm just getting back into acoustic drums after like 10 years, and studying lots of this kind of stuff
Thank you for doing this! This is an amazing groove and you dissecting it made it much less intimidating. It's still a very steep mountain to climb, but now I know how to start.
Epic!
Amazing work on breaking this down! Louis would be proud
Just saw them in concert a few days ago. Althought the first part was a massive trolling, the 2nd part was terrifically awesome.
Thank you so much for making this!! Love your breakdown, perfect pace for me and my level :)
Thanks for watching!
Fantastic job man.
This is a masterful tutorial, thanks so much!
Its amazing lesson man, thanks a lot for your hard working!
Thanks for watching :)
First time I ever watched a drum tutorial... and of course it's something insanely challenging. ClownC0re is sick yo!
Thanks for watching :)
Really coole and thoughtful tutorial! Subscribed!
Glad your stuff is showing up in my feed . Good job you tube and you
Outstanding tutorial that deserves way more likes
Well done man that’s a great and humble tutorial. Thank you
So sick! Thanks for taking the time to break it down.
well I know what I'm doing with my weekend. i've been looking for a tutorial like this, really in depth and well put together. thanks so much, liked, and subbed!
You have an excellent teaching method. This vid is perfect
Thanks for this! About time someone did a breakdown on Louis Cole 🤣❤️
As the opposite type of drummer (getting behind the kit and going with the flow) I live your methodic approach. Well done!
it's crazy to hear it broken down and then reesembled. i don't play drums but i found this fascinating. thanks for the vid
Very cool and interesting, keep up the great work mate 💪
Well done, and well explained! Thank you!
AMAZING!
...cheers from germany!❤
Great job on the breakdown of this groove.
Thanks!
Wild move by Louis syncing the lead side together. Best dirty trick in the book
I love these dudes. I too have stolen from mr Cole. Playing this groove with various stacks in place of the synth is such a vibe. Learn your bonham style doubles and triples to a good bpm and stuff like this comes much easier.the hard part on this type of groove, silly as it sounds in this respect, is not overplaying it. Leaving the space and the one note hi hat and snare hits with nothing else.
For sure!
for me this groove is nigh impossible. I am not a ghost note or a left foot ride type at all, and so I can really appreciate this nuance of sticking strictly to this really precise beat.
Hell yeah I've seen this and it's just beautiful
Very nice breakdown dude !
Great video and breakdown dude 🔥
Thanks for watching, man :)
Great breakdown man!
would love to see a breakdown this detailed of some of elliot hoffman's work. just his practice grooves that he records for himself are fucking ludicrous and rapidly get well beyond my comprehension
First time seeing one of your vids.. you 100% earned my sub with this one! I MISS CLOWNCORE MAN!
Thank you dude!
thanks man....super solid video
this tutorial was much needed
wow great video!!😍
subbed cause your English is as South African as mine. keep up the work, excellent lesson , ill watch more videos. not a drum player tho just love good music
It's a very informative Drum Lesson. I call it the Drop Beat.
The ghost notes of your snare sound almost exactly like your basedrum
it's actually the other way round, but yeah
Clown Core is amazing!
FANtastic , thank you
Amazing video man, fantastic drumming of course too!
Thanks!
I've been talking up clown core since I found them. This music has easily summed up life post 2020.
Thank you, mate! Unusual groove, very much appreciated
Oooohhhhh that last part!!!!!
Dude I love clown core ty
I'll see you at one of their concerts coming up!
@dad 69 420 ಠ_ಠ ϟ they're fixing to go on tour unless I misread
awesome workkk
Awesome video!
really enjoyed this vid!)
Thanks for watching!
I’m stomping right now dude! Thanks for this tutorial. Waiting for song “computers” by them:)
Thanks!
I always thought the drum/synth part was sick af, but i thought it was some throw away paradiddle, apparently its very detailed
Louis Cole is insane with his hand patterns
Wow didn't expect the synth! would love to see some Gary Novak stuff
Haha! I'm not too familiar with Gary Novak. I'll have to check him out!
@@brettclurdrumsoh you will love him ! Haha
I would love to see you create your own groove in this style
i'm going to their concert in Paris, sooo impatient !
I LOVE CLOWN CORE SO MUCH!!!
Frikin awesome bro nice!
Thanks!
Yeah man I fucking love clown core. I've been a fan of there work for about a year now
THATS LOUIS COLE?! WHAT THE FUCK, MIND BLOWN 🤯
I don't even play drums.. why is this my third time watching this video?
Lol fr though.
Yo thats.., very very cool ☯️🙏🏻
Definitely commendable for doing this tutorial, tbh I would go as far as to suggest to not only continue these "not so common/mainstream" tutorials in the near future, but perhaps to dedicate a time of the week or month or whatever, it could serve to highlight lesser known musicians as well as educate your viewers, just a suggestion. 🐸👌🏻
Huge thanks from France !
(I don't know why on my first play the video didn't work normally, but it's now all ok..)
Awesome!
Thank you so much.
I am able to play it at 130 bpm now 😅
Dude sick 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Great breakdown of the groove, man.
This groove is very similar to *babel* by Massive Attack.
Thank you!
cool stuff!!
Nice!
nice one!
outstanding
Legend!
:)
Thank U!!!
Do more clowncore Tutorials
I liked half way through the video then when the full beat was being played I was sad that I couldn't double like. Nice work.
lewis cole is a respectable musician and would never do something this silly!
Of course not. This is all hypothetical.
Danke!
i cant get this out of my head now
I find interessing too to play the synth bass using tom and floor tom
Thank god the keyboard notes fall on bass notes. It sounds a lot more complicated than it really is. Hreat great job, my guy. Thanks!!!!
Thank you!
sick
that's really cool. how are you doing that?! haha super cool
I'm lank proud of myself that I guessed it was Louis Cole when this came out 😁😁
Cole is a monster.
The synth bass in the original song came from Spectrasonics Trillian
