Excellent job. I just felt the cats were a bit disinterested when in fact they will be the primary recipients of a lovely warm hearth. That’s cats for you!
Well done ladies, just a tip for others doing this ,make sure the tile glue is suitable for heated areas, put the cut tiles in the corner first that way you don’t see the cut and get the full tiles in full view around the unit ,then make sure you choose the right grout for your purpose sanded or smooth, nice vlog showing what you can do if you try 🤗
As a mostly deaf viewer I am caption dependent, so I get to see a lot of YT AI howlers. This episode has 'I want to make sure my heart is not massive." Heh, no chance; you both have massive heart.
Nice . Good work. I bet the cats were watching and thinking 💭 !!! I’d of tiled into the corner from the outside edges and left the cuts in the corner behind the stove. But that’s cats for ya. I’m not thinking that . 🤔👍😂x
Well, next time, maybe you could... oh right, it's done. No "next time." Fabulous work ladies, and I hope it keeps you safe and warm in the days to come!
Fabulous choice of tiles and great technical tips too. A tip from me is to start all tiling on the outside edges so that the partial tile sits on the inside, in your case would fall behind the stove and be less obvious. In any case great job, wish I’d been brave enough to change the tiles I inherited when I was living a life afloat 😊
We had a good laugh this morning (breaking the concrete board) we remember the days before hips and knees prevent DIY. You girls are troopers. Well done.
Great job. Looks lovely. I am glad I am alive to see your continuing journey (I had a massive heart attack last Saturday and just made it). Lots of love from South Warwickshire. Give Alice and Crunchie and tickle under the chin from me.
Yet another great vlog. I couldn't stop laughing at your attempt at cutting the board by standing on it . I can't wait for the boiler vlog. Once again great vlog ladies.
You lovely ladies have done a A-1 great job, don't be worried about the matchstick spacers. Most tile layers are not that precise and grouting the tile hides many flaws. I love your non-pattern pattern. Now you can make extra money doing this to other peoples boats who don't have the talent you ladies have. A mighty thumbs up to your skill and research!
you can grout tiles by using a sponge as it is quicker and you get evenly applied grout, also grout will wash off once dried as ive just done round the bath in bathroom using this grouting method and its a method my grandfather taught me and he always used this method, although it took me a week to do this job because of my back, having said that you did a great job
Great job. Usually better to put the cut tiles on the inside edge as the view of them will be blocked by the stove and you've got a nice clean line on the outside edge then. Lovely work though x
I’m so proud of you two. I have been watching you for a long time. You gals aren’t afraid of taking on new adventures. I have to say I’m learning from you as well. Keep up with the good work and have fun. I’m Tightwad
This is really impressive! I would never have been able to undertake anything like this. I am D.I.Y. handicapped! I love the tiles and the design, so different and cool. Now I can't wait to see it all finished and glowing. You gals are so inspiring! 😃
Good tip for doing grouting is to apply it with an old credit or store card, its flexible and gets the grout into the narrowest gaps and doesn,t scratch anything. Also uses pieces of the box the tiles come in as spacers, costs even less than matches.
Well done you. Always better to take your time and get it right. I can imagine you sitting with Alice and Munchie, enjoying a nice cuppa toasty warm. Can't wait...💕💖💕🔥
Kath your tile/grout work is perfect. My dad was a tile setter for many years, so us daughters learn a lot from dear ole dads. Annemarie I would literally stare at the geometric designs looking for a pattern. Lol You too are awesome!
Beautiful job in the end. I might have put the cut ends on the opposite sides of the walls, so they the short (non-whole) tiles are at the bottom and the back corner (that will be hidden by the stove), but that’s a pretty minor choice. Very tastefully chosen on the grey base and the mixed wall tiles. Can’t wait to see that with the stove in place!
Love the sandwich-making gloves as work gloves. Safety first! LOL Also, you should've used something like a fork (the proper tool is called notched trowel) to create waves on the tiles so they would stick better to the wall due to the suction effect. Just spreading the cement like a jam on a toast is not enough.
I quite like the pattern not pattern. I think the cats do to. I quite agree on cutting the corner off.your toes will be the better for it. I love watching you two work together. Each does her part. Different styles creating a beautiful whole. Looking forward to the stove installation video. Cheers to K A M & A -C
Lovely job you have very high standards. Thank you for sharing your research with us which is going to save other people who want to do the same thing loads of time. We both love the pattern on the tiles and love how you’ve made it a pattern but not a pattern. Well deserved Chinese. 🍜👍
Great vid! I absolutely love your tile choice. People often say ‘get a man in’ to do difficult jobs, er no! get a Kath and Anna Marie in! 😀 Happy 2020 to you and cats 🐱 🐱
Think I would have put the cut tile at the bottom. Other than that it looks good. Can total see why you are changing it. Be nice to see how it goes when you get it installed.
It's so good to see you ladies after your 2 weeks off. I was going through withdrawal. I love, love, love those tiles. The hearth is truly a work of art.
Great job well done. I love the tile pattern great choice. I've never had the luxury of an electric tile cutter, if ever I do some more tiling that's a must get. Glad you took the corner off it would have been easy to catch your foot on and it looks neater. You really brought a lump to my throat with the matchsticks, that's what my dad used to do bless him. I'm sure the heater is gonna make it very cosy for you. Thanks. Alan.
Just a couple of thoughts. It looks like you are trying to snap that board on the wrong side? Difficult to see but you score one side snap it from the back so the score is opening up if this makes sense. I would have started full tiles on the top and the outer edges. The cut tiles would then be on the bottom and in the corner, mostly hidden behind the stove. In the end you've made a good job of it. A thought again about staying warm steering in a British winter. Get a big old jumper from a thrift store, cut the arms off and use these over your pants as ankle warmers. may need a bit of hemming. Thank you again for your vlog
I think you two are great; how you are able to do so much on your boats. I believe you did your last bathroom on the Wart, now a fire place and with all traditional style tools: The tile cutter appears a bit of a new invention however. I can honestly say, I can't draw a a straight line with a ruler let alone a piece of wood. You are both impressive. Can I book you both next year?
Great work, looks a real professional job. I particularly liked the specialist tool used for applying the grout ! I hope you've gone for a Refleks stove (the template is a bit of a giveaway) as it is my stove of choice to replace the Morso when that eventually bites the dust (sic).
Looks great 👍. I really understand your struggles with the look, I live on a converted cottage by a lake and I am in a constant battle of trying to make things look mismatched, used, reclaimed, and DIY. People that live in normal homes will never get how hard it is to get that look just right. I know it is probably too late but I recommend staining the trim before you install it. If you ever have to cut cement board with a razor, Stanley, knife again take a pair of pliers and break off the very top of the blade, about 1 or 2 millimeters back this leaves you with a harder stronger and sharper cutting tip than the pointed factory tip on the blade. This is an old trick used to cut metal flashing and cement board. Can't wait to see the stove install.
Interesting tip about the blade tip. Wonder if that might translate to X-acto knives and brass, copper, aluminum, shim stock used for model train details.
Dear Two O' Hearts, I finally finished all of your videos, now going through Munchie-Alice withdrawal. Its a huge credit to your evolving talent, how your "vlogs" have improved over the short span of years. Must join Patreon for more content, and contribute to the Kitteh Nomms Budget. Love, from across the Wide Atlantic! And Happy New Year!
Very impressive. Love, love, love your choice of tile. I did shutter when I saw the tile saw in the kitchen on your stainless sink. Brave soul. My husband was a bricklayer/tile setter and would do the same. 😉
Excellent work and attention to detail. As pro as it gets, maybe even better. Plus the satisfaction you'll get everyday knowing you built it. I'm impressed. And your design and approach to doing a traditional thing in a non-traditional place is spot on.
No criticism from us .. you guys are alway so watchable and so natural.Bet you also saved a fortune. Our latest win is the sylvania pir sensor from wicks at £5 battery powered great value .Keep up the great vlogs .Fantabulosa
@@TheNarrowboatExperience Your not expected to think that a man could do better, I was just saying what a lot of men would think. I have three daughters, and like you ladies are all very independant and very capable of looking after themselves, as you most definitely are.

hi very impressive job well done ladys. don't take this as a critic i would have started a full tile from the outside edge so your cut tile is hidden away at the rear of the stove but very impressive anyway hope the rest of the project goes well
Lovely job. Just one observation, I would have put the cut tiles in the corners.

Good job, looks great. I think I'd have put the cut tiles in the corner, but that's a matter of choice.
One just HAS to admire the design team who were so thoughtful about choosing tiles that match the cats. Not everyone has that kind of eye! 😸
Good point except we need a white cat now.

Top tips girl's when tileing always work outside in and from top 2 bottom so you're cut tiles R on the inside and at the bottom.

The electric cutter wasn't great to be fair it was the second cheapest one. But having cut the tiles in Ewart by hand this was A LOT easier.
Very smart.

very well done! interesting pattern, kind of hypnotic (nice and great tho!) will help make the oven a feature very well 😊
Thanks for this, tiling the hearth is very close to the top of my things to do list, it's good to see how someone else has tackled the job.
I always admire your tiles. They are the wow factor in your boat. Very pretty!
Amazing. Looks fab.

What would happen on the sink? I put it there because it kept leaking.
Nothing...I am just paranoid about our stainless steel sink and scratches. No matter what we do, our nice shiny sink seems to end up scratched.
Excellent work and attention to detail. As pro as it gets, maybe even better. Plus the satisfaction you'll get everyday knowing you built it. I'm impressed. And your design and approach to doing a traditional thing in a non-traditional place is spot on.
Well done, it looks great. A tip for the next (!) time - start from the outside edge so that the cut tiles are in the corner, hidden behind the stove.
Yes we know this too but made the decision based on the trim.
Looks lovely and thank you for taking the time to explain what you did.
Hopes the weather stays warm for you, until fire arrives.
Looks fantastic the hearth l like the grouting tool 👍👍👍👍😁😁😁
A very good job girls can’t wait to see the fire in there
