    Saw a 2015 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off Road, the owner add some skid plate armor, it has 50,000km on it, so 35,000 miles or so and he's asking $50,000 CAD, which is $4K shy of a 2024 base model. Private owner "I know what I got"

    You can buy an older vehicle but make sure you buy a vehicle that can be repaired cheaply and easily by a regular professional mechanic. Example…buy a Wrangler V6 or a Ford F-150 V8….not a complicated BMW or high performance turbo vehicles.

    One thing to also mention is older vehicles are more simple, less electronics, less headaches. I enjoy older Toyotas myself, I've owned everything over the years nearly, and as a guy who likes doing his own wrenching, Toyota has been the best for just using as a normal passenger car. My wife has a 2008 Toyota Yaris she bought new for $13k back then and it still is running strong with 130k miles now. I bought a 2005 manual transmission Scion XB, also a Japanese made Toyota vehicle in 2020 with only 88k miles on it, rust free, and only paid $6k shipped from across the country. It has been one of the best vehicles I have ever bought. Best part is our vehicles both have the same engines so maintenance is a breeze. I would say if you are comfortable with minor repairs go for an older Toyota. I taught myself how to change power door lock actuators, both my rear ones failed in my XB, 20 year old car now though. I got all 4 replacement ones for $45 on Amazon. Took 20 mins per door because I was going at a leisurely pace. Another thing to look for is a timing chain driven vehicle with a non-interference engine, trust me on this, if you get an older Toyota with one of these the engine can last 200k + miles no sweat. I have seen guys with the gen 1 XB's with over 300k miles. Something to think about also is how much money per year of ownership are you spending. If I bought a new truck for $45k today, and went on payments for the next 6 years, I would be putting out $7500 a year in payments, more than my whole XB that I have enjoyed for 4 years now, in just 1 year. I used to buy GM trucks back in the day. My uncles worked on the line so I got sweet deals on new ones. I had a 2002 S10 and a 2006 Silverado, the S10 was $12500, the Silverado $19500. The sad part is I would prefer those older trucks with their cheaper parts and lack of AFM and those amazing plush thick cushioned seats to anything new they make today. Maybe I'm just old fashioned, I like my stick shifts and straight razors, some things just never go out of style though. Sorry for the dissertation.

    My friend I drive a fully loaded 2013 CRV with just over 100,000 miles on it. I still have 50,000 miles or three years left on a bumper-to-bumper warranty I bought separately, the car is kept out of the elements and is extremely new looking and running, on the other hand, my wife, her car got stolen out of the driveway, we moved from New York Long Island area we were there all our lives now we live in Pickens county South Carolina in the mountains. Buying a car down Here was a whole new experience, used cars have crazy high mileage because of the highway systems ,60% of the cars down here have salvage titles, so we ended up buying a little Mazda two with 50,000 original miles original owner garage kept underneath this car is as clean as the top. It’s nothing to brag about but it will run for 200,000 miles more. The kicker is we paid $9500 for the car out the door. The car was 17,000 when it was new 12 years ago, how’s that for upside down, but you can’t look at it that way I have to look at it as we have a 50,000 mile vehicle. We paid 10 grand for it and we keep it for many years. What a mess this countries in.

    • @Jason-Samko
      @Jason-Samko  2 дні тому

      Great you can do that. I drive 40k miles a year on just my truck (and another 20k a year on my wife's). But myself at 40k on mine means in 5 years it's done with 200k on it. That's why I buy new for very low and selling a year and a half later for the same as I bought it for new or close to it. So most trucks cost me nothing or maybe 100 a month to own. But I means I have to swap vehicles often and find the best deals

      it seems like every new car or truck has so many problems and over priced i think it better to keep what you have as long as possible, just the sales tax and other fees are as much as a major repair on an older car. some new cars with the tech built into the windshield can cost up to $6000.00 to replace. the insurance is more just not worth it to me.

  • @JustJoshinYou12

    It’s not greed. The issue in this is customers allowing themselves to be treated like that. In a free market customers dictate what they will pay. They couldn’t deny what they wanted and took it on the chin. They are not hanging onto them out of lack of affordability they are upside down. In 2021 I was forced into the car market by a wreck that wasn’t my fault. I refused to pay those prices and bought an 05 Dakota farm truck. I bought it for 4 grand. Have spent about 6 on it since I’ve owned it. That’s 10 in total. I might get 5 grand for it one day when the market cools. That’s only a 6k loss over a few years. These people who paid these prices didn’t want to sacrifice and are now paying the cost of that. Customers dictate markets. Not dealers. Don’t pay the costs and they come down.
