The flashbacks to when they are younger, are put in there, to demonstrate that they have BOTH, ALWAYS, paid special attention to each other… that they have always had a special bond. They always liked being around each other and liked each other’s personalities…. We, the audience, can clearly see, that now, they are all also sexually attracted to one another. But, Belly and Conrad, are now, both unsure if the other still feels the same way. The audience, can also see, that especially Conrad, is really worried that Belly is changing, and suddenly cares a lot more about her appearance, because she is always looking in the mirror. Conrad is noticing how quickly she is growing into a woman, that she is interested in other boys, and this really scares him. Now that she is pretty, will he still be her favorite person? Or, will she lose interest, and move on to someone else? We can see, that he is very worried that he is loosing this person, he once had a very special connection with.
I have no insight whatsoever into rinas being team Jere cause I haven't looked at any of it. I'm not really one for social media. I'd like to know myself though cause it kind of surprises me in multiple ways. On a more general side of it, I find that most people take an almost immediate disliking to Conrad in the first season because he's always in a bad mood. People find it annoying and while Conrad is mopey and angry at the world, Jeremiah is basically a human version of a puppy. That seems to be what initially sets the landscape for people's teams. Then Conrad will either win you over as the show progresses or you'll dig your heels into team Jere. There's not a lot of consideration given to the fact that Belly has known Conrad and Jere her entire life and this is just one summer in 16 years. When someone is part of your found family (or Belly's mom's found family rather), there's a complexity and loyalty and empathy that develops but the viewers who are meeting the characters for the first time don't have that mindset at all.
