I am currently helping my 7 year old improve in reading. I have learned so much (thanks to you and a few others on UA-cam). Now I am thinking about becoming a reading specialist and helping others.
I have and am seriously considering becoming a reading specialist. I'm 56 right now so it would be a late career choice for me at this point. I feel very strongly about literacy and the power of literacy. I'm considering a masters degree with certification.
Yes I thought about it, as a senior or semi-retired, income supplement. I am close to retiring. It takes 2 years? Just nearing age 59. I come from a line of school teachers, in my mom's side of the family. 😅
Hi! Kathleen. Very informative. Any thoughts on grouping according to ability as opposed to age. Also, when would you recommend either? Always cherished becoming a reading specialist. Right now I'm in an adult literacy engagement.
I definitely recommend forming small groups based on students' needs. It makes the time more efficient and more meaningful! They can/should be flexible as the year moves on so that as you receive up to date data, you can shift groups around if needed.
Im interested in being either a English teacher or a Reading Specialist. But what exactly is the difference between both? Im more oriented towards a Reading Specialist.
An English teacher is going to cover more so studying English literature - reading, writing, speaking - in middle school or High School grades. Usually, a reading specialist would tend to work with elementary age students and help them with reading and writing.

"one" is really interesting because of the /w/ sound. I usually don't teach this one with sound boxes since the only sound that really makes sense is the /n/ sound. I would just show students the entire word and ask "what surprises you about this word?" And they they would talk about how the "o" does not make a long vowel sound like it would normally with an "e" at the end. For "guard," I'd use sound boxes and show that the "uar" work together to make an r-controlled /ar/ sound.

That's amazing!
Just came across this video. I’ve confirmed that I want to become this
I would love to do this! I’m a young teacher but have grown a love for helping students with the foundation of reading over this past school year.

That's so awesome!! I hope this video was helpful!!
@@learningattheprimarypond It was. Thanks!
I have been thinking about it! Currently looking into it.
I'm in my last stretch of my EdS reading. I'm excited and nervous. Do we ever feel ready?
Congrats!! I think a healthy balance of mostly excited and slightly nervous is ok :)

It's a really rewarding profession! Let me know what you end up deciding :)

Interested. I have a MA-Ed and I am a reading tutor currently. Would like to receive the Handbook you referred to. Please advise.
Thank you.

I have thought about it, but with three kids in school still and going to be 50 soon, I think that ship has sailed
I truly don't ever think it's too late!!

I've been wanting to become a Spanish reading specialist but I don't even know if that exist here in Texas😢
My guess is it definitely does!
Shoot and if it didn't, and you happened to be the first you will definitely be high in demand! #HotCommodity! 🔥
