incredible how it looks exactly like rpg maker vx from 2007, and doesn't seem to have anything new added into it
The "new" is it being on console and having online support so multiple people can work on one project.

Tbh it doesn't look like VX. It looks worse because of how big and empty everything looks with the increase of resolution.

That's close to nearly 20 years ago when Rpg maker 3 on PS2 was released in 2005.
We wish the series deserve a spin off with real time action element or so. 🙂

Yeah I think it was 3? On PS2? I was so excited and then it ran at 15fps.
Seeing this announcement I was hoping for something like RPG Maker 3 for PS2, where you could create 3D games. Using that version years back I was dreaming of a future installment that could've potentially have some kind of assets marketplace and use the HDD of the console, instead of memory cards. 15 years later, we're nowhere closer to this.

I wish they'd make a truly 3D RPG Maker again. I miss RPG Maker 3 from the PS2. :(

RPG MAKER 2 and 3 which was on PS2 could do that.
RPG MAKER 1 on the PlayStation could let you edit sprites and animations anyway you saw fit without restrictions.
I don't really know what "WITH" brings to the table other then being MV again.
It brings additional options in the Editor; Asset sharing function, so people can work together on one project; graphics from various Makers; faster processing on the Nintendo Switch; an easier-to-use Editor with the Script Lines looking similar to RPG Makers II & Fes on the Nintendo 3DS; the trial version comes with 5 sample games; there is new music and graphics from MZ; and maybe some other minor differences. Aside from those, this Maker was made with families in mind, and friends who want to work together on a project. It is limited in the way that Fes was limited, however, it's an improvement over MV Trinity on the Switch.

I don’t understand the appeal. I thought by now it would at least look like Octopath Travel by now. It looks the same after all these years. Is this a new game or a port?
You can make it look like Octopath Traveler. You just have to make the sprites yourself and install a couple of plug ins. It wouldn't be the same though. Just an approximation.
Which yeah not many people would go trought the effort of doing that. And nothing you can really do if you are playing on consoles.
Whish they made an RPG maker with that in mind tho.

@@SmittyWJManJensen I don't know how you got that from my comment. If your goal is to make a 3D game that uses sprite. Then yes you might be better off with another engine.
But if you are just making a 2D RPG then you should be fine. If you don't want it to look like a dime a dozen RPG Maker game, then you just have to make the assets yourself or buy them somewhere.
The cool thing about RPG Maker is that part of the work is already done for you so you don't have to code it but you can easily modify it to fit your need. And people on the internet are always sharing plug ins for you to add to the game in case you don't know how to code.
If you know how to use other engines already. Then yeah maybe go for those instead.
Personally I just buy the older version of RPG Maker when they go on sale.

And there's lots of plugin and add-on, I've seen lots rpg maker game with better graphic. What they show in trailer is just the basic/bare minimum
Octopath was made in Unreal Engine by a major development team. The modern Maker series is more like a contemporary web game framework built with HTML5 and JS libraries for fast development
At least add a cross-save feature so I can work on the go but also work from my PC (which is much better for RPG Maker ngl).

Looks like MZ with .... collaboration tools? That's probably what With is alluding to.
Also has built in roadmap maker.
A combination between various Makers (Fes, MV Trinity & MZ; also the Script Lines are reminiscent of RPG Maker II on PS2).
It's a great idea for people who don't have a pc or laptop... but if you do, there are so many better tools and option available. And if you have a passion for development, that's where you should be.

So can you download other people's created RPGs? And if there is asset sharing will people be able to say make a dragon ball RPG or a terminator RPG? I ain't sitting down making these things but I know tons of people will and I'd like to play their creations!

The difference is that this is optimized for home consoles. However, it lacks a Character Generator, sadly. That's similar to RPG Maker Fes. Luckily, it makes up for that in the Editor. It's much more easier to operate, has a more smooth process (runs quickly), Asset-sharing and even the ability to make an Action RPG!

I've created a game with VX, yeah, 18 years ago, and the chip set is still the same. Lol. What about creating something new? Ok that 3d isn't always the answer, but try and make something different for once. And on Pc of course, i don't know how you can create on a console.
You say that for a series that allowed people to create games on consoles for some decades, now.
Creating on consoles and handhelds have been much easier to work with. Not only that, but this series started out on home consoles WITH home consoles in mind, long before the PC was a thought in their minds to develop for.

I wish they gave us the Pokémon or Disgeua engine.
You don't need that for either because the framework can already be created in WITH. This version is much more robust than previous 2D iterations. A game like Pokémon is now entirely possible. Even a tactical and action rpg game can be created using this software. The only disadvantage is the graphics. That's it. Other than that, asset-sharing is also another cool feature of WITH.
@@AwesomeAlexPlays Pokemon games have been able to be created since 2005; Pokemon Essentials, a content pack meant for making Pokemon fangames, is for RPG Maker XP

To be honest, NIS America fails at properly advertising the features that make this version worth purchasing on Switch & PS4/5.

Can you compose your own music as well?
Unfortunately, that is not possible. However, there are sounds and the ability to adjust the volume, pitch and panning of each sound effect. For example, there is a Music section that you can choose, to pick sound effects like piano keys, bells, drums and chimes. From there you could Event an instrument. I just made a basic keyboard in MV Trinity, that can also be put together in WITH.

I’d be more excited if they could patch MV to actually run and save properly on PS5. Don’t want to give them more money when the one I already bought is a paperweight.
WITH is optimized, this time around. In fact, it runs so fast on both the PS5 & Switch. The only thing that takes any time is the load screen when booting up the file, or going back to the the title screen of RPG Maker WITH.
@@vol_opt I don’t care how optimized it is. I care about the fact they already sold me a product that just freezes when you try to save or load data, making it essentially useless, and that they refuse to address the issue no matter how often it’s brought to their attention.
