As a kid I missed huge chunks of Armada, but I did get to see Starscream's ghost put Optimus in the robo hospital in Energon, which I think was the first time I ever saw a main-character/hero get their ass kicked in a children's cartoon, which thus blew my mind abd made Starscream my favorite Decepticon. His toy for Energon being pretty damn good didn't hurt either.
I'm really glad you enjoy the Armada designs, too! Armada will always have my favorite Megatron design. His beetle tank aesthetic is a nice breath of fresh air compared to all his other variations...most of which either look like G1 or the Bay movies.
I really hope they remake this figure into a voyager someday with the same quality as the Siege and Earthrise lines. Armada Starscream is one of my favorite versions of his character. The Prime version of him is an example of having the potential to be good, despite his douchiness. lol Hell, even the IDW version of his character ended up doing good in the end. As joked about in this video, Armada Starscream is literally the Dinobot of the Unicron Trilogy, even to the point of him being "cloned" into a shell of his former self in that terrible Energon sequel. Armada Starscream deserves a proper remake. :D

The toy was made first. IDW had Starscreams adopt not only that form, but also the form of any new Generations toy of him or from a mainline they adapt into the comics as promotional material. He first took the form of Generations WfC Starscreams, then Generations Armada Starscreams, and finally Combiner Wars Starscreams, the form he stuck with for the remainder of his presence in the comics
