- Bandit is 3 years old. We have been walking him for 2 years since we adopted him. He used to live on the street. We found him one day while visiting our parents. Bandit was following the neighbor to the bodega. We asked the neighbor if that was her cat, she said that he was a frequent visitor of her front porch.
She started feeding him but was unable to take him in. We decided to take this little cutie in because he kept following us to our car. He is a very social cat. He loves dogs and people. He is socially awkward with other cats. We have been working for the past 2 years to get Bandit to socialize with Naz, our Calico. He immediately bonded with Raja, our Tabby Swirl. Bandit is the only cat we’ve ever had who expressed an interest in going for walks. Naz and Raja loved going outside on the roof deck, but never liked wearing a harness.

We had a Bengal cat harness trained. You meet lots of curious people when you go out with a cat on a leash. Fun.

Many years ago, I had a cat that initially I took to the park just so he wouldn't think the car only goes to the vets. He seemed to really enjoy it. I would take some food and water for him and a sandwich and a book for me. I noticed after about the 3rd time, he would go basically along the same path but explore different things along the way. There was a hill with a bench under a tree most of the way up. That was where we would stop for lunch. Yes, he also liked getting on top of things. That way he could be king of all he surveyed.

Bandit looks almost identical to Beefer the cat from Sully and the Beef in Canada. They are on UA-cam too Beefer is so Cute he goes shopping with his mom and is allowed in every store His favorite thing is going to McDonalds with his mom everyone there Fusses over him and pets him The Beef loves people and they love him BIGTIME.

My cat walks with me on evenings, after dinner, for 25 minutes. No leach needed, she stays with me within a few meters. People comment surprised when they see us walking together.

Cat can’t see very far vision , cause they have wide angle lens Like a go pro, but it’s good in moving on moving object and with their quick reflexes. Strange your cat not afraid of open spaces , cat are thinking escape route ahead , trees or bushes.. my cat she a rag doll so I can carry her on my back to the park from the car just holding one front paw lightly, she relaxed looking around. People get their kick on that.

How do you train a cat to become comfortable wearing a leash and harness? Any cat that I've ever owned would have launched in to drama mode.
We had 2 other cats who would go into drama mode. We think Bandit tolerates a harness and leash because we started training him as a kitten.

Here is what I think works:
1) Start when they are young.
2) Put the harness on quickly so you are not messing with them too long
3) Follow the cat and let them explore
4) Say something like "this way" when you need to redirect them and try to make the new thing something interesting. Use the same phrase.

That's exactly what we did in a nutshell. We used treats to reinforce during training while walking in the house.

That’s our fear! We don’t want him to run away or get hurt! We are actually going to order a longer leash for him, so he has more freedom to run around.

I, respectfully, don't agree with you that your furball likes the beach. The fact that he never walks with straight legs is a very good indicater that he is extremely wary. I didn't see him relax once. Maybe a different walk route would be more enjoyable?

He did sit and look around, especially when he saw dogs, and people (We respectfully cut out the conversations we had with those people.). He also found a rock and just sat and watched. We shortened this video. We go on lots of walks. When we visit the nearby park, he pulls us to go towards the beach.
