Cool vid! The pinion on the mogs is ridiculously long and can also be shortened with some love. I am building a set of Volvo TGB portals, nice and short pinions.
I have both 404 and 411 new style axles (416 but narrower) and i have done pinion conversions on both of them. I had to invent the wheel also because there was second to no information out there. but we seem to have done the exact same way on both sets after all thats cool. Its kind of funny how different they are to anything else out there on the "market". Really heavy beasts right there good job!
Hey bud, enjoyed the video…. Killer shop killer tools and upgrades👍🏽… I got a couple questions… 1. What is the purpose of welding, one side of the locker wishbone lever? 2. I recently learned that the spring in the locker also functions as an emergency release, when under to much bind to prevent braking…which happened to me both times after braking my portal gears…
The other benefit to the cable locker lever setup and the main reason I did it, is that you know with 100% confidence that the locker is engaged vs with air, you may press the button to lock the diff but the air actuator hasn't yet locked the diff due to the locker collar shape. So before I hammer down on an obstacle, i know i'm good to go.
So evidently the spring didn’t help me to avoid blowing up the collar gear…🤷🏼♂️…my question is will removing the spring possibly cause more problems…my logic says no BUT I’ve had a locked cable system that won’t allow it to move in any case which is why I feel my collar gear broke both times…rather than unlock like the factory system under a overload…
So if a guy was an idiot and sold his beloved P- wagon Tacoma, and happened to run into a set of these… what’s the damage to have you machine them like this for a new build?

May I ask where those splined flanges came from? I am looking for those to convert my Unimog axles
I see on there the tip of a Unimog 406 pinion shaft ??
