They are removing a LOT of healthy trees. Look at the stumps and the logs. And they are making the park more fire prone by doing this. They should have just taken the dead ones only.
Removing dead trees will open the forest to sunlight which will speed regrowth of new trees and reduce fire severity. If we don't manage our forests mother nature will do it for us and she can be brutal when she does it. It's a city park on previously logged ground, it's not untouched old growth.
@@lsaraswati957 There is nothing drier in a forest than dead standing trees. If you ever get lost in a forest and need to make a fire you should gather dead branches because they are far more flammable than living branches. It is well known the pine beetle infestation created a major forest fire hazard because of the dead trees.
160 000 trees cut down by a Looper Moth Catapillar infestation. They are planting 24, 000 trees for now? Won't that push an infestation to the rest? They might want to plant 220, 000 seedlings....25% resililant to Lupar Moth's.
what innocent little bunnies! the western red cedar population started its retreat north decades ago, and none of you noticed. They'll be gone from most of this latitude in a few more years. Yep, that's climate change for ya.
People are heartbroken that the city needs to remove dead trees? Would they be less heartbroken when a widowmaker branch lands on their loved ones?

This creates much drier conditions and is making the forest more prone to wildfire.

How silly is it. trying to protect dead trees
They are cutting down living trees too, especially larger more saleable trees. Look at the stumps and the logs.
"wild life management" ....... oxymoron
