  • This is a short review that I did on my replacement (Juniper EX3300-24T) 10 GB switch to phase out my older Nortel 48-P 6550 switch... This only cover the the intro testing and config phase but more to come on this front! Like if you enjoy!

I am researching the Juniper EX3300-24p for my home lab. Thanks for diving into this device !

I've got two EX3300, used to run them in a VC (Virtual Chassi) across my two racks but I have removed one temporary as running VC requires two 10G ports changing the port density. Now I use L2 10 aggregation switches instead.
I'm running all my L3 traffic on the EX3300 and do OSPF and routing-instances to segment traffic (VLAN segmentation are for noobs) where most traffic needs to pass my firewall (that is a vSRX running in ESX)
The cli is awesome to work with if you have some kind of developer experience. The syntax ix clean and you always needs where you are. Unlike Cisco your commands does not take effect until you commit them and you do not have to write a config (so loosing power without saving in the Cisco world that's not a problem)

    Thats a nice switch !! I use G10tek Modules.

I do like Juniper Switches, it's a bit of a Learning curve.
I don't know how many time commit confirm has saved me.
But "show configuration | display set" command will be your friend.

IT took about ten minutes to stage and I had it ready. Still playing with it before I place it onliine for use. /:>

So my question about these and i dont think youll be doing a video on it but ive hear you can connect 10 of these swithces together to make one switch in full duplex so my quesiton is does that mean the speed would be bumped up
Their are also other modules you can get not sure if this one supports anything higher than 10gb though
wondering why you picked 24t over 48 port switch though ?
Can you also daisy chain these switches with mikrotik

Yes, the first question is can yo uconnect up to ten switches together. Yes you can using VC bridging that Ex series are known for. You cna span across switches port to port or in fail over pairing or ALB Duplux and mix of all depending on your needs. SO to answer the otehr question of do you get more from duplexing vs. single VC pairing. Teh answer is yes, when you full duplex two 10 GB connection you get full 10GB write and read vs. Write or read. Much faster packet handling and transfer rates but still within the 10GB vlaue. (As in you get closer to the total 10GB pipe speed. ANd lastly why did I pick 24 port / 4 10 GB SFP switch over the 48 port? Well for two reasons. Cost and my 3 tier network model needs. Plus the 48 port switch was not avaialble at that time... These swtiches can do all four levels of switching, edge switching for users base connections, daul fail over mode for floor or building infrastructure, ISP inbound / outbound role and finally full Data Center four pathway fail over full duplex back bone switching for servers and services ISP roles support small ro mid size companies. Hope this helps...

      @@leadiususa7394good information brad
1.but do you need to inerlink all 10 switches to get read write speeds or can you do it with just 2 switches
      2. so my other question is can you conect one juniper and 1 mikrotik together in full duplex or because their different architecture is it not compatible
      3. you also get im trying to remember aggregation switches which connect with these switches for one type of topology
but then you get QFX switches to connect with these switches for a different type of topology as the QFX switches are used for faster conectivity
4 then their is nodes but im not sure thats something a home user would ever use
5 im not even sure a homeuser would use QFX switches in combination either
But some Juniper switches are designed for running a cloud enterprize server so i am not clear
6 i think the setup you have has the 10gb switch and mikrotic switches
7 so would you need a separate aggregation switch as well or a QFX switch as well or is this just overkill
8 because i get back to my point before which is that although you can setup a switch for connectiviy if you have a loadbalancer it speeds up the connection
9 so is an aggregation switch just another switch or is it a type of load ballancer
10 or is the QFX a type of load ballancer or just another switch
11 and if they are just another type of switch can you get a load balancer specific to juniper or do you have to use an of braded model
12 the other confustion ive seen is some people use software load balancing and call it load balancing when its actually called reverse proxy
13 by some means of paying for cloud services not connected to you server
14 so load balancing as a whole is not something covered properly and setup correctly made me think of something else reqarding your setup
15 so i know you split your geat into 4 different types of environments so my question is if you had a load balancer im guessing its only works when everything is switched on
16 but is their an automated device that can turn each of your environments on automatically or do you have to change something manually each time for the different configurations you do
      hope its not too long

For full duplex mode you need two port of the same speed and type. To raise this ALB mode for faster speds, do it in pairs to keep the duplex mode running.
