For anyone who wants a better pen for the Samsung tablet you can use the pen for the Wacom One tablet (the version with a screen). It works great (because its the same tech) and it is thicker and better weighted.
Better still, if you can still find one - the HP zbook stylus (zbook g2 X3 to be precise) is better than the Wacom One pen and it also has felt nibs. Someone somewhere even said he managed to get Wacom felt nibs into his as HP stopped making this pen a few years ago when they dropped the Wacom EMR digitiser in their zbook lineup) try typing z-b-o-o-k on a Mac......, yikes!
I have a Wacom One pen when i need the plastic nib and a Lamy EMR when I want the rubbery nib because that pen has a more ergonomic grip than the S-Pen! it's great stuff and i can swap between the two as I see fit!
I switched from iPad to the Galaxy, believe it or not. The amount of 3rd party pen support on Samsung is great- you can get a $22 dropship pen on Amazon that comes with an eraser, a Wacom One that has the best shape for tilt, a Dr Grip EMR for a nice ergo hold, a Lamy EMR which looks fancy, has two nib types, and handles tilt like the Wacom, or the KingWrite MR03 which has both a side button AND an eraser. At all times, i keep the lamy for the rubber tip, the kingwrite for the soft tip and the wacom for the hard tip at any one time and swap between them between phases of making comics. Swapping the pen vs changing stabilization/line correction settings makes drawing so much easier. And it's much easier to get things transferred to and from my PC and Android, then it is to transfer with to and from my ipad. I have a Galaxy S6 lite and after 3 months, it started feeling like a hassle to use my ipad pro. Lastly, since I use Concepts a lot now, the files made on Windows and Android are cross compatible with each other while the iPad version saves in a different file format for some strange, crazy reason. yeah, i had to give up procreate and learn clip studio and concepts, but it was well worth it!
Don't know about concepts but clip files saved on ipados can be opened on windows and macos just fine. For file sharing, even if you don't use apple now you should consider sharing a folder or a disk over the local internet from your windows pc (or your mac if that's what you use). On android, ios, macos, linux, windows etc, you can connect to this shared space. Personally I mainly use an iPad with clip studio paint, and when I want to work on it further on my pc, I directly save from my ipad to my pc disk. No moving files or stuff like that, I just directly choose my shared disk in the save as menu and save it to my pc right from my ipad. If it's already a saved file and I want to copy it I just go into the file browser on my tablet and move the file from my tablet internal disk to the shared disk. The great part is that if you're in a separate room and want a file that is on your pc on your tablet, you can just go to your shared disk and open the file on your computer with your tablet, or move the file over to the tablet. It is very convenient to use whether you are on ios or android, works across all operating systems that support file sharing.
@MY29052 The only lagging problem was using the app Infinite Painter, and it was because the app is not well optimized. It lagged a little when using the lasso tool in a big canvas, I did the same thing with other drawings apps, and Infinite Painter was the only with that problem. I use the tablet for drawing, note taking, and a little media consumption. I bought it in May and I haven't had any problems. Also, consider the fact that this is my first tablet, I don't have other tablets to compare it, so maybe if you are used a very strong processor with other tablets your are going to note the difference. I got the tablet for the equivalent of 300 USD, and for me, it was totally worth it.
@Hargure the different between fe and plus only on ram right? Or there is another critical feature that only available on plus? Please answer it i wanna bought one but not sure which one
@@Adervish The main difference between the FE and the FE+ is the screen size and the battery, but it can vary when it comes to RAM. In the case of my normal FE, there are two versions, one with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage, and another version with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. I think the FE+ is the same, plus an extra version with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. The S Pen that came with my FE doesn't have Bluetooth functionality, I don't know if the FE+ S Pen does.
I got the S9 FE for 230 bucks from the official site using student ID and card discount. Nothing else beats it in this price category considering it also has the spen in the box
@@elalemanpaisa the iPad air starts at $600 without education and no apple care... It's more than samsungs but it's not $1200.. That's 13inch ipad pro price, if you take the 13 inch ipad pro compare it to the tab 9 ultra it also starts at $1200
100% recommend that you get the Samsung, it's simply just much more affordable. I've used a simpler S6 lite and have no major complaints. Krita is great for it still being in Beta.
I fully agree with you: If you have an iPhone... no discussion, get an iPad If you have an Android phone, I'd lean to a samsung tab but iPad could work too. One thing that reviews never mention though and that is a huge point for samsung IMO is that they use Wacom's EMR technology for their pen. A bunch of third party manufacturers make EMR pens which you can use on a Galaxy tab. I have an S8+ and use the Wacom one pen on it, huge improvement for drawing, compared to the Spen.
@@rhoharane I haven't felt the boundaries of that garden so far. To me, the idea of putting up and maintaining everything (music, contacts, calendar, etc) twice sounds very tedious.
I have been using the Samsung S9FE for a couple of months...I mostly use it for note taking and pdf reading..I must say it has been great so far..I would recommend it to anyone looking for this purpose..
@@cristyperez4744 I just got mine few days ago exactly for this, I am waiting for my paper like screen protector but even now taking notes on it is very fun. I love the portability of it, not too big not too small. I am reaching for it way more than I thought and easier to carry than my big laptop. Pdf and highlighting works perfectly, and you can even take rush notes on the locked screen by pressing your S pen button. So many times I want to write something down quick but I can't be bothered to unlock my device so I just take the S pen and note it down on my locked screen and then you can save the note. Its pretty cool
At least in canada you can get tab s9 fe for $400/600 For ipad air you can get last gen one for about $550 and 150 for the pencil Or if you want newer one or bigger option its 800 for small one and 1100 for the big one plus 170 for the pencil Like you can buy two tab s9fe for one ipad at that price range If you want a tablet to try out how drawing on screen is like i would just get s9fe Then i would change later on
Hiii! What did you end up deciding for :3 Honestly, a lot of my artists friends have mixed opinions on it :( I got a iPad air 4 (64gb) with gen 2 apple pencil for 400 bucks and I'm still thinking of what I should buy aaa ;^;
While I'm more familliar with Apple ecosystem (I use iphone for my phone), but since I use a Windows laptop and I need a device for studying other than art purposes, I opted for tab S9 fe. It has all features in tab S9 and you won't know that they cut a few corners for this version. I have relatively small hands so the Apple pencil is a bit heavy for me and with a larger tip comparing to the more compacted S-pen, and Samsung notes is superb. Procreate is good, but I found no less better apps for drawing in Android. I bought the whole set with the keyboard case + protective screen as well, and the price for all of them is equal to the ipad alone in my country, so it's better on budget too. System-wise I still prefer Apple, but I don't regret my choice at all.
@@sorrelskydancer6645 IbisPaint, Krita and HiPaint so far. CSP has monthly subscription so it's a bit tight for me, so I'm currently sticking with those three apps.
@@MY29052 I'm using the FE version (the smaller one) so I can't say for sure if there're any differences between it and the plus version, but there're a few lags and there on apps like Facebook. For example, if you logout you have to login twice, and the screen won't turn horizontally even with a keyboard attached to it so it can be a hassle. For messenger, gg doc and discord at least, I haven't seen simillar issues. Another downside is you can't turn the pages in samsung notes (like i want to turn it vertically but I can't seem to), or I don't know how yet.
Thx Brad! I’m an iPad Pro 1st gen user, and I was trying to choose wheter buy iPad Air or move to S9 FE and your video is helping specially when, here in Brazil, iPad Air 11” entry level price is U$ 1270.00! Thx once again!
Honestly the best recommendation would be to get the device that complements your ecosystem. I have a samsung phone laptop and tab s 8. It all works for me in that regard. If you have a iphone mac book, then an ipad Air would probably be best for you. If you dont care for the ecosystem, then i guess its best to review the apps that you would wish to use. Apple kinda has a better optimized set of apps for it. And more companies tend to push for apple devices first or just apple devices only. So that might sway you more.
im pretty satisfied with my s9 fe, switched from older ipad, at least s9 fe is good for youtube and other stuff ... couldn't bare to use ipad for anything else than drawing
@@volarex5311If you use ProCreate / Affinity - iPad wins no competition If you have Clip Studio Paint or use for media consumption and sometimes note taking - S9FE
I prefer the pointy tip of the S-pen to see details better, but oh man is it slim. There are ways around that, like sheaths/shrouds I could buy online to make it bigger, but the magnetic attachment is weaker. And, while I like Krita (it feels like a good CSP alternative), the UI on the Android version is full-fat desktop UI which takes away a lot of the screen, esp. on a smaller device like my S6 Lite 2022...
I use Krita on the same S6 lite. There's a lot you can do to make the UI more comfortable, hide tool bars, close unused dockers, resize icons, Hide the Samsung task bar. Most important one is 4 finger tap to go to show the canvas only, so you can toggle back and forth when you need to change tools, or use the Pop up Palette options as well.
the ipad annoys me since its a bad experience to get your stuff onto a non-mac device for storage or post. apple really throws stones in your way when not fully invested in them and thats really annoying. but from the drawing e perience with procreate its awesome still
If you want a better Pen then go for the Samsung if you want more softwares then go for the iPad it's that simple. I have both so I can confirm this, I don't like Procreate cuz of how their brushes feel so I use Fresco most of the time on the iPad and when I am doing work on both I use Clip Studio Paint since it would be the best and most consistent also cuz I do manga stuff. Also if you like a pointy tip Definitely Go for the Samsung since Apple Pencil feels more like a Crayon rather than an actual pen or pencil.
I would have said the exact opposite! You can use your android tablet as a full fledged Wacom/Cintiq replacement and work on full Photoshop (BC of hovering and compatibility) while the pen and scribbles are just better on procreate and fresco for FreeTime use. I hate Samsung's pens :((((
Ngl this is me with spen. I like it so much more due to it being lighter and smaller. I have the 1st gen Apple pen so it maybe heavier than gen 2 (is it? Idk) but spen really is my favorite between the two brands. Software wise I'm more used to Android apps so I feel like I'm not losing much from not buying iPad. 😅😅😅
Another great video Brad! Its amazing how this probably wouldnt even be a conversation a few years ago, android has really caught up with apple in the illustration space. I know its opinionated but I just feel apple was far and away better until recently.

Hey Brad. Nice review on both devices, i had an ipad until a few days ago when i decided to upgrade it to an android device which turned out to be the newest Huawei Matepad 11.5s which is a great tablet, but it has the google ban which is not as difficult to overcome nowadays. I was about to get the new Tab S9 fe as you have a lot of reviews about it, but they don't sell it in a bundle with the keyboard, only with the s pen, which i found very needed. Additionally, in my country, Samsung's post sale support is really bad and I had a couple of issues with them in the past, so I would say that it is important to also check that issue once you are committed to buy a new tablet. In the end I'm happy with my purchase and I would suggest that you test the Huawei tablet as it now comes with a new app called GoPaint which you will love. Kudos for the video!!!
Thanks Brad for another balanced and fair review. There is so much fanboy-ism on both sides of the Apple/Android divide that it's refreshing to see an unbiased opinion. I personally don't like Apple (both the products and the company) but I always point people to your channel when I get asked about drawing tech.
After trying the tab s9 and the s10, as well as the ipad in tech stores over the last few weeks, the s pen seems SIGNIFICANTLY worse than the apple pencil, even though I prefer the galaxy tab otherwise and really dislike i(Pad)OS even though I use macOS daily I don't know why my experience was so different from Brad's, but here's what I've noticed, if anyone is interested: The palm rejection works in a bit of an odd way on the Samsung devices - Whenever you move the pen close enough to the screen for it's position to be detected (when you can see that little circle), any and all touch input on the screen is disabled until you lift the pen again. This makes it effectively impossible to hold down the side shortcuts in clip studio to e.g. make a straight line or constrain the aspect ratio of a circle. Luckily you can set those shortcuts to toggle instead of holding them down or connect a bluetooth keyboard. But any action where you would use your finger and the pen at the same time, or even using a menu while you're still hovering over the screen, is impossible. This is _almost_ a disqualifying factor in my eyes, but depends on your usecase. The Apple Pencil does not have that issue, as well as being usable at shallower angles. Over all the Apple Pencil just felt better and more well-rounded when trying it out, epecially with it's weight and the haptic feedback. But it's also a 150€ addon to an already relatively expensive tablet. I tried it again after a while and the difference between the Samsung tablet and the ipad in terms of tilt is way more noticable to me now. The pen doesn't respond at all, if you use it at any angle past maybe 40 degrees off perpendicular, which makes it significantly more frustrating to use for both writing and drawing. The S10s the store had on display didn't have that issue. The store employee I asked said that that's the intended functionality for the S9 series - I'm not sure if I buy that though, because that seems like a significant enough issue that I can't imagine no reviewer mentioning it… One major benefit of any android tablet over an iPad in my eyes is having what I would consider a "real" filesystem where I can work with folders like on a dektop OS and granting Apps limited storage access where applicable instead of having apps siloed to the extent they are on Apple and giving each app it's own storage. As someone who would also read and annotate documents on a tablet, as well as moving around files quite a bit, this is very important to me. microSD is a huge bonus, too, of course. The iPad definitely seems like its ecosystem of apps is a lot more refined though. On the other hand I personally really like that Android feels so much closer to the level of control you have on a desktop OS, even after it became increasingly locked down in recent years. Idk, I just wanted to throw my thoughts out into the world, maybe they're useful to someone else.
Are these things comparable in price? You can dismiss the M2 chip for most drawing tasks, but if the price is comparable that chip brings a lot to the table outside just drawing. The M2 chip which is essentially a laptop chip runs rings against any flagship phone chip, and you can complain all you want about the software, but it’s not true if you editing heavy video files with effects, sculpt with a lot of subdivisions or are making a comicbook with a ton of layers per page in one file. That doesn’t even include the games running better and longer OS updates. If it’s considerably cheaper, the 9FE is a good device, but here in Australia. A tab s9 fe is $750, and an iPad Air with Apple Pencil pro starts at $1200. So it’s not really in the same price category. At $750 I think you can kinda make a case for it, but that iPad will last you a lot longer, and if you want to edit film, animate, sculpt and use vector apps like Affinity designer… that iPad is a better argument even against the regular Tab S9. I’ve seen the tab s9 for $500 on discount. Definitely good value at that price.
holy cow that's a huge difference in price. And I just googled where the price of the FE is coming in at here now and it's already down to $350 us which is a great deal. The reason I compared them is because this is what Apple considers mid tier vs what Samsung considers mid tier. I probably am undervaluing that M2.
*The s pen here in FE is diffrent from normal S9 but it is pressure sensitive (btw you can replace the tips of the S pen so chill out and use that matte screen protector to get paper like feeling)* Gosh its awfully hard to type on split keybord of S9 fe+ i just jumped to a massive screen from tab A7 and I'm not used to 😅😅😅
Someone I know bought the S9 FE+ with 12gb RAM and the 11 inch M2 Air. with the best pens available for each. The Samsung has the better pen but it seems the iPad Air will be more viable 5 years from now. They got them for their kids, who are into digital art, and one kid uses the iPad more because of software, the other uses the Samsung because the pen was a little more responsive.
The S Pen has had the barrel roll feature for 10 years now (introduced in Note 4). It's just that the app developers don't care all that much about Android. Samsung also doesn't beat their drum as loud as apple does.
Switched from my iPad mini 6 to a much larger Lenovo tablet and I thought I was going to miss procreate really badly but ibis paint has just been like procreate but even better in some areas
But isn't IBIS that weird app that forces you to stay connected to the web to get work done??? I swear I tried it before but it was so heavily online oriented and Manga oriented that i immediately removed it and never looked back.
I love that they're doing what Samsung is doing... you mean Apple is copying Samsung once again... nothing new there 😄 I rather use the S-Pen, I like the lighter pen and the smaller nib, feels more accurate. The S-Pen also doesn't make noise when touches the screen, do some stippling and impressionism and the S-Pen is a joy to use, while the Apple Pencil get annoying after a while. I'm not missing Procreate at all after switching early this year. I'm happy to have a Samsung again, enjoying the Galaxy Tab S9 FE with Clip Studio Paint. Not being able to work on every device I have was the main reason I gave up on Procreate. It's a great app, but being able to work on all my devices is so much more convenient. I often start my concept on the S9 FE and then move to my studio where I have a 24" Pen Display and just swap to Clip Studio Paint for Windows. Another reason is ecosystem. Ipad's don't play well with Windows, Android does better and Samsung offer just the extras like Quick Share to make it even better. Got the model with 256Gb of storage since that has 8Gb. Yes, the M2 on the iPad is a lot more powefull, but neither of the devices ever use that if you only use them for art.
Only thing I'll do for the tab s9 for is the aspect ratio. I like the 16:10 more. But I just love how powerful the iPad is. I feel like you can go way more years with that.
I have been using it for 4 months now. I do hate the s pen's rubber creating annoying friction .Moreover, exyos 1380 really starting to show its true colours. How about you have you experienced some problems with it? Most importantly what's your battery life and state the use case with it
Oooh posted this literally two weeks after I got the Galaxy Tab S9 FE while contemplating if I should opt for Apple instead. I use a Wacom Intuos Pro with my Windows or Macbook or just draw on my iPhone. I only switched to Apple in 2019 and kinda missed my android system, so I opted for the Galaxy Tab S9 FE. I really do need a better pen though.
I think the price gap between these two devices is a bit high Even the standard tab S9 is cheaper in some countries than the iPad Air, especially when considering the pen The S9 FE is closer to iPad 10 not Air
I would go after Samsung tablet but I be missing my fav apps from the iOS. So I'm keeping my iPad Pro. I am actually stuck in-between them both. I have half of Samsung ecosystem (phone and watch) and half of Apple ecosystem (earbuds , iPad and macbook pro.) I just might get a Samsung tablet for something...
@Brad Colbow when I got my Samsung S7+ all I did was get a matte screen protector and switched the spen tip to a metal one from amazon. Doesn't wear down and while the feeling is less paper-like I'm still fine with it.
Great video as always and a very balanced review. Would be interested in seeing your thoughts on other Apple device's for illustration work. Desktops, Macbooks and how well they work with pen and display tablets like Huion Wacom etc.
The multi core score of 1380 processor is the single core score of M2 processor. Krita is brilliant but it works bad on FE due to bad processor under heavy load. There are noticeable stutters despite it having 90hz while ipad air despite 60hz it is smooth. It would be getting support for at least 7-8 years. IMO Galaxy Tab S9 FE is highly overpriced for what's in it. I would rather go for Tab S9 with OLED and Snapdragon Gen 2 than going for FE. If its absolutely between the FE and iPAD Air then latter one wins for me. I am invested in both ecosystem. I have an Android phone but iPAD just works better. Dex mode is just brilliant but you don't buy it for only that feature. Its the whole package. Ecosystem for tablet is currently in favor of Apple. I would much rather see more support for Android but Devs are heavily influenced by Apple with its user base. App support for ipad is just better. Android don't have something like Affinity or Davinci Resolve. Adobe apps works flawlessly in ipad. FE will get you up to occasional level of art but for serious thing where you are working with heavy files with tons of layers than you will need processing power but FE doesn't have it. The user experience is not up to the mark.
As a Mainly Samsung user who is also an artist for hobby, I have both a Samsung tab FE and iPad pro, and even I prefer the iPad more over my Samsung. It's the feel of the pencil and the fact that palm rejection isn't the best on my Samsung tablet that bother me. I hate apple, but...I do love their iPad pro. ;;
The two smartest purchases (in terms of value and how can these be used) for painting on a tablet, IMO. But the AIR 13". Isn't the 12" version the past gen ?
Tbh its all what you pay is what you get. Ipad is definitely superior but the cost is like close to double without the pen (at least in my country, USD320+ vs USD650+). And i am gonna get a 5 month used FE which only cost bout USD230. For usage like running Zwift, casual browsing and kick start my digital sketching journey it should be a better choice, already looking forward for the spen sketching experience on it (while comparing it on my boox Go 10.3) 😊
I got Galaxy Tab S9 FE and it's kind of underwhelming, stylus is tiny, precision is meh(especially near the edges, in some cases it even drifts away whole centimeter away), battery is ok, the android ui works kind of clunky with stylus if your hand shakes even a little, differently get a protective glass, because the screen is very fragile. Get an Ipad, csp is there and you have a procreate there too, as well as a lot of cool software (even 3d sculpting stuff)
I have a S7 FE... I use a thicker LAMY AL-Star, which is also more sensitive. Samsung S screens are compatible with most Wacom EMR devices (you can get a fancy Staedtler...there's a lot of options), so it even works great with the Amazon Scribe's premium pen, which is the best of the 3 in sensitivity, and has a not "not so easy to miss" side pen button than the other two. As for apps, it depends on what you do. I have found that the free Krita is the most complete solution on Android, for painting. Infinite Painter is great, too, specially purchasing it full. I have no issues with this tablet at all. Also, the sound and battery are very good, as it is the wifi chip. I hadn't those issues maybe as I rarely paint close to the edges, but I had not noticed that in my S7. Art Rage Vitae is quite good for mimicking traditional painting, I have quite some fun with it, as oils work quite nicely. But in terms of other apps... Procreate alone (for how good is the app, and how amazing are their devs and their position against AI) IMO justifies going the iPad route. I just don't see a need to go for the Pro, AIR 13" is good enough. But very crucial if one needs vector apps and serious photo editing: The Affinity apps. Designer, and Photo, mostly (I believe Publisher is also for the iPad, I have them all on desktop). IMO, at the end of the day, both tablets are good purchases. But I would definitely go for the iPad AIR 13 inches, not the 11 one. You get more canvas size than with the S9 FE. And due to screen ratio, probably even better than the S9 Ultra and its 14 inches.
Having a discrepancy of one centimeter in pen accuracy is certainly not normal. It's possible that your device is malfunctioning. Additionally, a lack of pen precision can sometimes be attributed to the interference of magnets with Wacom EMR Technology. This may occur if you're using a case cover with strong magnets. Therefore, ensure that this isn't causing the problem.
@@mortezachaichian2176 a centimeter drift isn't really a normal thing, it happened like twice in 9 months, but the edge drift is quite normal, I'll check how it behaves without a cover thanks
@@swgman Yeh, as far as I know it does have edge drift problem a little bit. Additionally, be mindful of what lies beneath the tablet. For instance, placing it on some laptops could also expose it to the magnets used for the lid.
What screen protector do you use on your Tab S9FE? I know you mentioned it in a few videos now but never said what kind or where to get. There are so many awful ones I would love a good recommendation to trust.
Hey Brad, You said in a video 3 years ago that you go from procreate to adobe animate and I am wondering if you use a screen tablet once you are in adobe animate? If you do, which one do you prefer to use? Thank you for your time
For me, in-app purchases are kinda troublesome. I do not have a card to buy and live in non-developing country. IPad Air 11 vs Samsung Tab S9 Fe, which device offers more free software for graphic design and digital art?
great video. i think i commeneted on an older video BUT. on the samsung FE 9, have you found a 3rd party app for the Ai feature. specifically i use the object earaser enough to where it would be nice to have on the tab. Also, have you tried the S-pen Pro, seen it sells around 99$ and its thicker looks closer to apple pencil based off images
I just got an Air 5 because my ISP didn’t have Android tabs under their bundle plans, I’d choose Samsung if I had the option so I wouldn’t have to pay more for the pencil
in my country, the samsung tablet is brutally cheaper, like the basic version of the air would go fo something like R$5900(128gb) while s9fe about 2400.-2700, and the apple pen would be another 1000... so the trully competitor of the s9fe here would be the old ipad 9 with a pen, and even the 64gb version is like 3000(pen price already included). Base s9 tab(256fb) would be 4400
For the price perfomance huawei 11.5s better. Ive tested it, so brush works good if you update all apps and OS. tablet itself costs 230$. Also you recive matte screen thats bargain. Note that you need to buy pencil separatley for 70$ used m3. Maybe cloud services may not work there, but all apps can be installed. Also huawei pen looks the same as apple, so you can have very good angles to draw broad strokes.
Although the iPad 10 might have a longer lifespan, thinking about its many limitations and file transfer issues that could cause me more trouble and make me not want to draw, I’ve decided to spend a bit more money and buy the FE+. It even comes with a stylus, and I can use the Wacom One pen with it. The price of the Apple Pencil could get me four of these Wacom One pens. I really hope Samsung has an app like PureRef. That would make everything perfect.
i think for drawing the ipad is still better but both can do the job. I just feel that Ipad is more mature , with more apps , better performance and more stability for drawing and in general as a tablet i just suggest that one . I think that ipad is one of the few products that Apple totally nailed from every point of view . You find also in different prices / format and so on so you can get the version you like the most .
I have been using the FE tablet for 3 months now because I'm a big Samsung fan but it doesn't read my line art well on ibis paint x which makes it frustrating it takes me longer to finish assignments because of that. The rubber tip is already coming off and I'm not heavy handed. I just go the ipad Air and I already like it more because I can use Adobe products on it unlike the s9 FE and I like the feel of the pen more. Also I do still have pressure sensitivity on ibis paint x with the Air and Pencilpro.
You can get different types of pens for the tab 9. A popular one is the wacom one pen. It has a plastic, felt, and rubber tip options. Plus more buttons
Just get the iPad, it's a little more expensive but it's totally justified, considering how futureproof it is with a much stronger processor and a better app ecosystem.
Little? In Canada you can get base s9fe for $600 without any promo For it's starting at $800 and need to get apple pencil which is $170 That's almost $400 diff
I am samsung and iphone user, but i need bigger version of screen for video editing and create desihn on canva. Note taking and using office software. Which one should i buy?
I love Apple, I do. In fact I use a regular 9th generation regular Ipad for drawing, still ...yeah...But price diference between this two 13 inches models is sufficient to make me thinking (at least in th EU) if would not be a better idea to get a m1 13 inches second hand Ipad Pro 🤔. Man I don't know... Thanks a million for this video and for all this years of information and courses too, your courses are nice😄
Since we're on an 'art' channel, it's not even a comparison, unfortunately - I bought a 1000 bucks device just to be able to use procreate, it's my job and my main source of income. And I'm not an apple fan but it's just that good and unique of a piece of software. If you don't need *that* then you don't really need an ipad, do you? These devices are just vehicles for the software inside, so they should be judged on that merit. Plus, I don't know about now but for the longest time apple just had better and longer support - my wife has a 2017 ipad pro and it stil runs the latest IOS 7 years later, and still gets updates. I'm not so sure samsung can or will provide that level of support (judging by the phones).
So here’s the thing. For me iPad is superior. But I use it for 3D and the extra horsepower of m2 actually is meaningful. It also gets the software I use before android if android gets it at all. Nomad on android doesn’t have everything that the iPad version does. ZBrush is iPad only. As far as I know nothing like cozy blanket exists on android. I think competitions is good but right now iPad just seems to be better.
odd that you'd compare the s9 fe to the air and not the 10th gen ipad since the prices and performance are a lot more comparable on those devices. the m2 ipad air absolutely craps all over every samsung tablet in terms of cpu/gpu power.
Heyah, was wondering if you could review GPD Pocket 3 for drawing. Or the Onexplayer 2. Everyone always just glosses over the stylus experience. I am wondering If I can use one for light sketches or use with Onenote
hi sir I really need your help I'm too confused. Does the samsung s9 fe work for 6-8 years? I'm gonna use it for studying in med school and the weaker processer is holding me back from buying it. is it really a big deal?
it is going to work fine. The S9 uses the best processor they have so the FE is weaker but certainly not bad at all. And the tablet has 4 years of updates so you will have plenty of space for app updates.
As an android person who has no reason to use apple walled ecosystem, exynos is just diabolical. Definitely prefer getting that ipad if can be used together with android and windows
@@sachinparihar8582 sd 8 gen 1 was manufactured by Samsung foundries they quite literally ruined the chip with their inferior manufacturing process check the 8+gen 1 its legit the same chip but manufactured by TSMC and its so much better lmao. that is why you are having battery life issues luckilly the 8 gen 2 and 8gen 3 were made by TSMC so they are MUCH better than what the 8 gen 1 was
Is the tablet s9 compatible in using the cvat tool? CVAT is a data engine learning that supports various annotation tasks and formats. Unfortunately, ipads are not supported.😢
For anyone who wants a better pen for the Samsung tablet you can use the pen for the Wacom One tablet (the version with a screen). It works great (because its the same tech) and it is thicker and better weighted.
Been using it for years! Love it! Shhhh,..keep it a secret!!!!
Better still, if you can still find one - the HP zbook stylus (zbook g2 X3 to be precise) is better than the Wacom One pen and it also has felt nibs. Someone somewhere even said he managed to get Wacom felt nibs into his as HP stopped making this pen a few years ago when they dropped the Wacom EMR digitiser in their zbook lineup)
try typing z-b-o-o-k on a Mac......, yikes!
@@ToddDolce why do you want to gate keep that? Bit sad
And better starting pressure as well. It's more sensitive
Goat a fe plus last year and really satisfied by this am able to create my illustrations and commisions its amazing so far
Would you be so kind as to share your social media accounts? I want to follow artists who use this tablet. Although mine is the standard FE.
@@Hargure could you please tell how is your Samsung S9 fe tab working . Did you face any issues? Laging issues?
230 bucks how , there's just 10% discount with student I'd .
just checked the ipad which comes at more than 1200usd incl education without even apple care
I bought "open box " for 290 usd , it is fantastic for my college notes
@@elalemanpaisa the iPad air starts at $600 without education and no apple care... It's more than samsungs but it's not $1200.. That's 13inch ipad pro price, if you take the 13 inch ipad pro compare it to the tab 9 ultra it also starts at $1200
In my country used 9fe starts from 300$. New 500$ so for me its not an option.
100% recommend that you get the Samsung, it's simply just much more affordable. I've used a simpler S6 lite and have no major complaints. Krita is great for it still being in Beta.
S9 is more expensive than the 11 inch air, (USD 900+ vs 700+ for the base model respectively)
I fully agree with you:
If you have an iPhone... no discussion, get an iPad
If you have an Android phone, I'd lean to a samsung tab but iPad could work too.
I did it the other way around. I wanted an iPad to draw on, so I switched to an iPhone.
The third consideration: if you have an iPhone and don't want to get locked into Apple's walled garden, choose whichever makes sense
@@rhoharane I haven't felt the boundaries of that garden so far. To me, the idea of putting up and maintaining everything (music, contacts, calendar, etc) twice sounds very tedious.
iPad alone it just works pretty well with android devices, not like others Apple devices
Damn ,thanks for the info ❤
I like how you compare by what you see and feel rather than basing decisions on specs alone.
Agreeed.
I have been using the Samsung S9FE for a couple of months...I mostly use it for note taking and pdf reading..I must say it has been great so far..I would recommend it to anyone looking for this purpose..
This really help! I’m looking for an affordable tablet to take notes in college since students don’t really use notebooks anymore 😅
At least in canada you can get tab s9 fe for $400/600
For ipad air you can get last gen one for about $550 and 150 for the pencil
Or if you want newer one or bigger option its 800 for small one and 1100 for the big one plus 170 for the pencil
Like you can buy two tab s9fe for one ipad at that price range
If you want a tablet to try out how drawing on screen is like i would just get s9fe
Then i would change later on
Perfect timing as I try to decide between the two haha - Can always count on Brad for the artist pov!
Hiii! What did you end up deciding for :3

I got a iPad air 4 (64gb) with gen 2 apple pencil for 400 bucks and I'm still thinking of what I should buy aaa ;^;
Hey! So what did ya pick? I need a new tab for myself that can last a while
@@Zaandik Hi! I bought the Samsung tab s9FE and I'm really satisfied with it!
The most reasonable, practical version of this type of comparison video I've ever seen. Thanks!
What drawing app are you using on android?

So that might sway you more.
your videos are so good. reviews from people who can actually use the functions as intended give a lot more value.
Hipaint is great. No Ads: Turn off wifi and cellular while drawing.
Just switched to hipaint and it's really the best android drawing app ever made

im pretty satisfied with my s9 fe, switched from older ipad, at least s9 fe is good for youtube and other stuff ... couldn't bare to use ipad for anything else than drawing
Hello i come from older ipad and deciding between s9 fe or ipad air.. price difference is 200$
@@volarex5311If you use ProCreate / Affinity - iPad wins no competition
If you have Clip Studio Paint or use for media consumption and sometimes note taking - S9FE
I hate Samsung's pens :((((
@@icephoenix5466i also hate the pseudo rubbery tip of spen . It has artificial friction while painting
the android has a krita app that's good as photoshop or procreate. those apps are amazing.
@@Na4z that pseudo friction is so that you dont have to buy matte screen protectors (which blurs the screen) for writing/drawing.

After trying the tab s9 and the s10, as well as the ipad in tech stores over the last few weeks, the s pen seems SIGNIFICANTLY worse than the apple pencil, even though I prefer the galaxy tab otherwise and really dislike i(Pad)OS even though I use macOS daily
I don't know why my experience was so different from Brad's, but here's what I've noticed, if anyone is interested:
The palm rejection works in a bit of an odd way on the Samsung devices - Whenever you move the pen close enough to the screen for it's position to be detected (when you can see that little circle), any and all touch input on the screen is disabled until you lift the pen again.
The store employee I asked said that that's the intended functionality for the S9 series - I'm not sure if I buy that though, because that seems like a significant enough issue that I can't imagine no reviewer mentioning it…
One major benefit of any android tablet over an iPad in my eyes is having what I would consider a "real" filesystem where I can work with folders like on a dektop OS and granting Apps limited storage access where applicable instead of having apps siloed to the extent they are on Apple and giving each app it's own storage.
I already Knew i was gonna get the S9FE but i honestly love reviews like this. helps me see the pros and cons of different choices
I probably am undervaluing that M2.
you can get 13 inch ipad air and pencil pro $ 1300 canadian

Brad, will you be doing a review on the new Huawei MatePad and M-Pencil?
Someone I know bought the S9 FE+ with 12gb RAM and the 11 inch M2 Air. with the best pens available for each. The Samsung has the better pen but it seems the iPad Air will be more viable 5 years from now.
They got them for their kids, who are into digital art, and one kid uses the iPad more because of software, the other uses the Samsung because the pen was a little more responsive.
Samsung also has a Slim version of their keyboard case that you might like better. No trackpad but also it's one piece so no wobble.
Which lenevo tablet?
Was looking for this exact video but a digital artist reviewing it for drawing tired of pixelated lines and decrease in quality after export
Ipad air is 800 plus pen is over 100 for that price range you can get s9+ tablet unless this is the 11 in version which is 700 a think
Only thing I'll do for the tab s9 for is the aspect ratio. I like the 16:10 more. But I just love how powerful the iPad is. I feel like you can go way more years with that.
I love my s9 fe, bought it in first week of released and still love it
I have been using it for 4 months now. I do hate the s pen's rubber creating annoying friction .Moreover, exyos 1380 really starting to show its true colours. How about you have you experienced some problems with it? Most importantly what's your battery life and state the use case with it
@@fevad1246 How is your S9 FE now? I heard it has a performance drop after a few months, is that true?
Oooh posted this literally two weeks after I got the Galaxy Tab S9 FE while contemplating if I should opt for Apple instead. I use a Wacom Intuos Pro with my Windows or Macbook or just draw on my iPhone. I only switched to Apple in 2019 and kinda missed my android system, so I opted for the Galaxy Tab S9 FE. I really do need a better pen though.
I think the price gap between these two devices is a bit high
Even the standard tab S9 is cheaper in some countries than the iPad Air, especially when considering the pen
The S9 FE is closer to iPad 10 not Air
I would go after Samsung tablet but I be missing my fav apps from the iOS. So I'm keeping my iPad Pro. I am actually stuck in-between them both. I have half of Samsung ecosystem (phone and watch) and half of Apple ecosystem (earbuds , iPad and macbook pro.) I just might get a Samsung tablet for something...
Personally love the S9 FE, though I use a metal nib replacement on the s-pen + matte screeen protector and use Krita to draw in.
As a Mainly Samsung user who is also an artist for hobby, I have both a Samsung tab FE and iPad pro, and even I prefer the iPad more over my Samsung. It's the feel of the pencil and the fact that palm rejection isn't the best on my Samsung tablet that bother me. I hate apple, but...I do love their iPad pro. ;;
Started drawing againnafter seeing your videos. I'm working on a phone, though.
This video just helped me decide.whick one to buy. Thanks!
You talked about the Apple Pencil Pro what about the S pen for Creators. Love the vids btw
What screen protector do you use on your Tab S9FE? I know you mentioned it in a few videos now but never said what kind or where to get. There are so many awful ones I would love a good recommendation to trust.
I dont need a oled but i do need 120hZ. And something other than exynos even a dimensity is better.
Hey Brad,
You said in a video 3 years ago that you go from procreate to adobe animate and I am wondering if you use a screen tablet once you are in adobe animate? If you do, which one do you prefer to use?
Thank you for your time
I like your pumpkin drawing
For me, in-app purchases are kinda troublesome. I do not have a card to buy and live in non-developing country. IPad Air 11 vs Samsung Tab S9 Fe, which device offers more free software for graphic design and digital art?
A good option also is the huawei matepad 11.5 2024 edition
great video. i think i commeneted on an older video BUT. on the samsung FE 9, have you found a 3rd party app for the Ai feature. specifically i use the object earaser enough to where it would be nice to have on the tab.
Also, have you tried the S-pen Pro, seen it sells around 99$ and its thicker looks closer to apple pencil based off images
I should've seen your video sooner. Thanks for informative video.
Ipad 10th gen or samsung galaxy s9 fe ,
Which one should i buy for creating animations???
I just got an Air 5 because my ISP didn’t have Android tabs under their bundle plans, I’d choose Samsung if I had the option so I wouldn’t have to pay more for the pencil
in my country, the samsung tablet is brutally cheaper, like the basic version of the air would go fo something like R$5900(128gb) while s9fe about 2400.-2700, and the apple pen would be another 1000... so the trully competitor of the s9fe here would be the old ipad 9 with a pen, and even the 64gb version is like 3000(pen price already included). Base s9 tab(256fb) would be 4400
Hey, really nice video, can you say more about what the AI features available in S9 FE?.
Just got an FE and gotta say samaung never disappoints me. Nearly half the price than ipads and same quality
which one should i pick tabs8 or s9fe
need an advice which is better s9 or s9+ for note-taking and watching media ?
SPen with metal pen tip + Matte screen protector = *Chef's Kiss.
Why is your screen on the s9 FE clear white, but on the ipad its a bit yellow? I think you need to go to settings
I think it’s because of the true tone. It makes screen appear yellowish depeneding on lighting
The Spen is much better (no charging and INCLUDED). My apple pencil's battery died and its just ewaste now.
Spen same size of a real pen so I'd say it's better
Is there a point to using the tablet which is going to charge you a service fee each month.
Or do the Wacom do the same thing
Big point the Samsung s9 fe you get around 370 Euros at this point frequently like right now
Which is best for a writer, reader, note taking and drawing?
Literally have the same question and can't make up my mind
Just get the iPad, it's a little more expensive but it's totally justified, considering how futureproof it is with a much stronger processor and a better app ecosystem.
the processors in either are more than powerful enough either way, especially the ipad is stupidly overpowered, you cant use the chip at all.
Little? In Canada you can get base s9fe for $600 without any promo
For it's starting at $800 and need to get apple pencil which is $170
That's almost $400 diff
@@모댕-k7u i reckon the 5th gen is a better purchase. It's cheaper and still has a really powerful chipset
Omg man, you weren’t active in your art channel and socials and I thought something happened to you. I forgot this channel existed.
I read some comments saying the S9 FE experienced a performance drop after a few months of use, because it still uses Exynos. Is true?
I am samsung and iphone user, but i need bigger version of screen for video editing and create desihn on canva. Note taking and using office software.
Which one should i buy?
I love Apple, I do. In fact I use a regular 9th generation regular Ipad for drawing, still ...yeah...But price diference between this two 13 inches models is sufficient to make me thinking (at least in th EU) if would not be a better idea to get a m1 13 inches second hand Ipad Pro 🤔. Man I don't know... Thanks a million for this video and for all this years of information and courses too, your courses are nice😄
Does iPad not come with a pen?
Do you need screen protector on Samsung S10 plus? Will drawing on it scratch the scree.
Aren't the new Ipads facing Overheating issues?
You can pay the ads away in hi paint. I think its 9.99
Can you do a drawing tablet/pad review for phones like iPhones? I can’t seem to find a single one made for mobile, so it will be of great help.
Hey is procreate a paid or a free app?
I would love to switch over to Samsung, but procreate is just that much of a selling point for me
hi sir I really need your help I'm too confused.
Definitely prefer getting that ipad if can be used together with android and windows
its just fine, exynos isnt as bad as people make it to be, its a mid range chip its fine, the fe also has enough ram, which is important.
@@SimonBauer7 speaking from my experience with galaxy note 10 5G, no, you can't convince me now.
@@KitsuneCognitionCorner from note10? Bro my s22 plus sucks which has 8 gen 1 and have to charge 3 times a day
@@KitsuneCognitionCorneryou do know 5 years are alot in tech? Exynos has been pretty good for midrange and with the Exynos 2400 also for flagships.
Ipad air 4 or the s9 fe for drawing and shool works ?
