I LOVE the Doobs!! Especially their early tunes! South City Midnight Woman Jesus is Just Alright Toulouse Street Another Park Another Sunday are other great deep cuts 🎵🎶
This is only ONE example of why the Doobies were much greater before Tom Johnston left the band and McDonald joined. Completely different sound and vibe. These are the REAL DOOBIE BROS. Sweet Maxine from Stampede is pretty awesome. Song to See You Through from Vices and Habits album is a gem. Keep up the great reactions. You are becoming my favorite!
Dark Eyed Cajun Woman is one of the songs that stands out on one of the Doobie Brothers' best albums of all time. You can hear the B.B. King influence throughout this song.
There’s so much more to the Doobies than their greatest hits. Gotta listen to Clear as the Driven Snow next. Pat Simmons has written some amazing tunes.
Before or after...I enjoy all of the Doobies music! Because the musicians showed their musical talent from beginning to end...apples and oranges they're all great!
Love the Doobie Brothers! Another great song from them "Another Park Another Sunday" is my favorite, you should give it a listen. Keep up the good work and opening people up to music they otherwise wouldn't listen to! 😘
Tommy Johnston - such a grossly underrated singer and guitarist. Nobody tighter than the Doobs. And yet it took until 2020 for them to be inducted into the Rock Hall.
My favorite early Doobies album is "What Were Once Vices Are Now Habits." It includes Black Water which is a must listen. But also good are: Eyes of Silver, Another Park Another Sunday, Daughters of the Sea/Flying Cloud, Spirit, and Tell Me What You Want. Honestly, ANY song you choose will be a winner!
There is absolutely nothing the Doobie Brothers couldn't do. They played every style, incorporated almost any instrument know, had their incredible harmonies, laid it all down on Tiran Porters unbelievable bass lines and a two drummer set, sometimes with bongos and congas! And it never sounded crowded. Anyone only listening to their radio hits are missing out on great songs like this. I've loved "Dark Eyed Cajun Woman" since 1973. There are so many others too. Respond to "Toulouse Street" for a very different Doobies sound and some more of the New Orleans groove. Hard to believe they're a California band.
@@plantfeeder6677 they shine, both of them no matter what fussy left brainers got to say in their critisizms of two greats. Cant they both be great for God's sake?
This album and Boston’s debut album were the best two albums of all time in my opinion.Third is “ Escape” by Journey. The Doobie Brothers had two great drummers so tight you cannot tell there are two…RIP, Keith Knudsen and Michael Hossack. This song has it all, and the song off this album called “ South City Midnight Lady” is similar and great also.If you listen to this album from start to finish, you will not believe it….Every song a winner.
Clearly you are a blues man at heart. This is my favourite Doobies song from my favourite Doobies album. This album is almost 50 years old and sounds as masterly today as it did way back in 1973 when I first heard it. It is Tom Johnston's tribute to BB King's "The Thrill Is Gone." Unreal blues guitar. So tasteful! And such great lyrics. From a time when real rock and blues was played. 🎸🎸🎸💘💘💘😎😎😎
We slipped in their hotel n NC around 1979...got all their autographs on the back of my boyfriend's check...lol...South City Midnight Lady Chod!!! Album version...u wont be disappointed 💖😊
Melissa Ward here. Great song. So many years ago for me. I still have this old lp. Just beautiful. So much to take in on this son. I still have this lp.
Love it! The Doobie Brothers toured almost constantly in the 1970s and I caught them every time they came to town. What a terrific live band. NOW, I'd like to try to capture your attention with the name of a new artist, and that would Captain Beefheart and The Magic Band with their song Big Eyed Beans from Venus. How about it brother?
So fortunate to see the Bros back in 75’. It was a t an all day festival with 7 big name acts and if it was a “Battle of the Bands”they would have won hands down. They really knew how to bring it !
Such a great song from early Doobies. Best album pre-Michael McDonald era ("Takin’ it to the Streets" is fantastic!). Also try "South City Midnight Lady.” Love your reactions!
This whole album brings back memories of sitting by a campfire drinking beer in the 70s. Man time flies but the music brings you right back to a point in time. South City Midnight Lady is along these lines.
FINALLY getting to some pre-Michael MacDonald Doobies. They were a far edgier, less vapid band before MM took control. Tom Johnson was the driving force and a much better vocalist. Check out "Taking It to the Streets," "Listen to the Music," "Another Park, Another Sunday."
The Doobie Brothers are such a top notch band, especially the earlier albums with Tom Johnston singing. Glad to see you digging them so much, I recommend "Sweet Maxine", "Mamaloi", "Ukiah/The Captain and Me", & "Spirit".
This is probably my favorite Doobie Brothers song too. The album this is from - Captain and Me is a great album. I really like their Stampede album. It includes Sweet Maxine, Neal’s Fandango, Music Man, Take Me In Your Arms, I Cheat The Hangman, Double Dealin’ Four Flusher and I Been Working On You. If you liked Dark Eyed Cajun Woman, you’ll like the last song.
Being a drummer--you may know The Doobies are another 2 drummer band. "The Captain and Me" is just one of those albums that is great from cover to cover. Always been a favorite.
The Doobie Brothers were originally from San Jose CA (where I grew up). That's the location of the unfinished freeway overpass which appears on the album cover. It remained in that unfinished condition for many years -- not sure how long, but maybe 7 or 8 yrs? During that time, someone would anonymously erect a lighted Christmas tree up there every December. In a way, it was kinda sad when the gov't finally got the necessary funding to complete that interchange of I-280, I-680, and US Hwy 101 in south San Jose.
well Dave you got to understand this is when it comes to classic Rock greatest Hits just don't cut the mustard that's why a lot of people say the album cuts are just as good as the hits and The Doobie Brothers are a perfect example that run of albums from two loose Street right on into taking it to the streets.
Definitely time for Blackwater ..... We were truly blessed to have been the first to hear and Experience this music..... That experience is.... getting lost in the music. You have missed the ultimate experience.... had a friend who was a DJ at weddings.... We were at the family cottage up near Algonquin Park (north of Lake Ontario)... Sun is about to go down, the beer is cold, burgers on the barbaque.... He boots up his small mobile set-up with the bullhorn tweeters and the Bogan bass cabinets, and put on The Captain and Me..... Not too loud, maybe 7, .......... Heaven..... I thought I was in heaven. Sometimes you might just be selfish and take the whole album in all at once.... Many of them where expected to be listed to that way.,. Dark Side of the Moon, the Lamb Lies Down On Broadway, Jesus Christ Superstar, Tommy, are the easiest, Steely Dan, the Doobie Brothers, Genesis, the albums were set up with a flow, like a good compilation "tape". Crosby Stills Nash and Younge..... Déjà Vu..... When you get the time .... Try it... You'll like it....
I was hoping someone had reacted to this song voila! There you are! I too acknowledge that this is their best song, objectively speaking, having done all the cipherin'. A similarly underrated song, from around the same timeframe, is Gregg Allman's "Multi-Colored Lady". Tis a similarly smooth and lovely love song about new love. I go for those hyphenated songs.
Clear As The Driven Snow on this same album is worth checking out too! South City Midnight Lady and Another Park Another Sunday are also "must hear" songs!
Chod, thanks for a great reaction. 😎 ANY SONG YOU PICK FROM THIS BAND, DO LIVE VERSION, they ROCK live. The Doctor, great groovin' tune. South City Midnight Lady, Blackwater, Rocking Down the Highway, Nobody, Take Me In Your Arms. ☮🖤🤘
Great song ,incredible bass, drums ,everything great....if you havent watched the steely dan documentary on the making of AJA you need to ir will blow your mind........
Just checked into UA-cam and saw this pop up on your channel. Instant stop and listen. Great reaction and pretty much matches my own - what a great track! Don't stray too long from revisiting their early catalog - so many great songs!
You have been blessed. Doobie Brothers. Original - BEFORE M. MCDONALD. THIS MAY BE (debatable) THE BEST SONG IN MODERN ROCK HISTORY. *RELISTEN.* Trust me i would know. This is debatably the best song in modern rock history. Im just an old metal drummer but you better listen to me.
Chod, please, please listen to Black Water; Another Park, Another Sunday; and South City Midnight Lady. We will not steer you wrong. I believe you’ll like pre-Michael McDonald Doobies more. You also need to get back to Three Dog Night, Out in the Country would be my first choice, but there are so many good ones. When I was growing up I never noticed that there was so much organ in their songs. You need to get back to Bread, also, Everything I Own or Sweet Surrender.
Chod....UK(The Band)....In the Dead of the Night - Studio Version(Song)....Bill Bruford, Drummer from Yes,King Crimson....If you Loved that Bruford song...You'll love this too....Ray
Toulouse Street , This Album , What Were Once Vices Are Now Habits , and Stampede fill out the pre Michael McDonald . Love some with Michael , but these early efforts are a tad more bluesy and raw .
Finally you went to their best album, before Michael Mcdonald. Every song on this album is great!
Early Doobies are the best Doobies. Time for Black Water and South City Midnight Lady.
I agree. I like them with M. McDonald, but the pre-McDonald years were their best.
I didn't like them after M. McDonald took over
I LOVE the Doobs!! Especially their early tunes!
South City Midnight Woman
Jesus is Just Alright
Toulouse Street
Another Park Another Sunday
are other great deep cuts 🎵🎶
The blues, Doobie Brothers style. Thanks to all the black blues pioneers. Blessings.
Two drummers in sync so well….hitting those cymbals perfectly…harmony, strings, etc. perfectly.

Dark Eyed Cajun Woman is one of the songs that stands out on one of the Doobie Brothers' best albums of all time. You can hear the B.B. King influence throughout this song.
Just absolutely love the lead singer's voice !!!!!!!!!
Next try - South City Midnight Lady , would a fellow Raider fan stear you wrong . The whole album was fantastic .
South City Midnight Lady, to me, is the best track on the album.
Do the whole album, you will love it!
Love the Doobie Brothers! Another great song from them "Another Park Another Sunday" is my favorite, you should give it a listen. Keep up the good work and opening people up to music they otherwise wouldn't listen to! 😘
wow, forgot about that one, but in re-listening they almost sound like Chicago not the rockin' doobies. But that's a good thing !
Just a killer song, Tommy is singing with so much soul for a real blues song..
When I first heard this back in 72 it was my favourite song of all time and still does it to me. Brilliant.
There is absolutely nothing the Doobie Brothers couldn't do. Could never figure out why this song never got air time. It is a top notch song.
Im from Louisiana, Been listening to Doobie Brothers for 40+ yrs.
Idt I've ever heard this song.😲
One of their best, known mostly to their fans, as it never got a lot of airplay....
This album was their third outing and not a mediocre song to be heard. Hope you plan to hear more from it in the future.....take your pick!
Not a mediocre song in their catalog with Tommy Johnson. They were HUGE before that lounge singer took over.
@@plantfeeder6677 they shine, both of them no matter what fussy left brainers got to say in their critisizms of two greats. Cant they both be great for God's sake?

Saw Doobies almost every summer in late 70s, early 80s at Alpine Valley. Good Times.
Those "bluesy" songs gets to you Chod. Jeff Beck, Steely Dan, Doobie Brothers, Led Zep. Can't go wrong.

Tom Johnston as he said paying tribute to BB King 🎸🎸 you can definitely hear the licks of almost A thrill is gone vibe going on there.
Melissa Ward here. Great song. So many years ago for me. I still have this old lp. Just beautiful. So much to take in on this son. I still have this lp.
What a funky & bluesy vibe!!! Love it!!! Thanks for the reaction Chod!!!
The BEST Doobie tune of all time. Sorry Mike, no offense but you tried to step into Tom Johnston's shoes only to find them far too large for you.
The lyrics in this song are amazing, one of my absolute all time favorite songs.
The other hidden gem 💎 on this album, that got no airplay but deserved it, is Clear As the Driven Snow. Fantastic through and through!
The "deep tracks" on their early albums, like this one, are amazing.
oh yea Grand Funk Railroad Mean Mistreater or Heart Breaker Live
NOW THIS is The Doobie Brothers .... Captain and Me ,10 * album ********
Never heard this one before . Great song and this is when The Doobies were at their best!👍🏻❤️☮️🎤🎼🎸
This song is on the Captain and Me album, the entire album is worth listening to . Not one bad song on it . One of my favorites

Clear as the Driven Snow another song of theirs that didn’t get a lot of playing time but is pure Doobie Bros. ✌️
South City Midnight Lady is s must!!
I love this song, might be my favourite from that record.
The Doobie Brothers are such a top notch band, especially the earlier albums with Tom Johnston singing. Glad to see you digging them so much, I recommend "Sweet Maxine", "Mamaloi", "Ukiah/The Captain and Me", & "Spirit".

The Doobie Brothers cleared the way for Walter and Donald to do their thing as Steely Dan!
Chod, you should do a video on your musical journey on listening to classic rock that opened your eyes that our generation grew up with.
You'll also find two great live versions of their song "Another Park Another Sunday" each posted by: Moon doggy or Tony Hill).
The whole album Chod seriously the whole album.

This song goes up another level when they add a saxophone solo. Master level musicianship.
This song feels so much like The Thrill is Gone by BB King.
you're absolutely correct and your assumption because Tom Johnston even wrote it simply as a homage to BB King.

"And which Doobie you be?"
This LP is a minor masters and should be in everyone's album collection. The song "Clear As The Driven Snow", from this record, is a musical journey.
Ordinary man. Another excellent song.
OK, next, Atlanta Rythm Section, "Alien" or "Angel", studio versions. Also Three Dog Night's best song, "Out in the Country".
Clear as the Driven Snow. Same Album. This song takes it to another level.
Here's a few great songs from the same Captain and Me album - Clear as the Driven Snow, Without You, South City Midnight Lady.
