  • This video is for anyone and everyone that is looking to learn more about what a tongue tie is and how it can affect the body, particularly parents, nursing mothers, dentists, pediatricians, and ENTs. In this video we will explore the four different classifications of tongue tie, how it is diagnosed and what to do about it!
    Tongue ties are linked to difficulty nursing, improper tongue posture, tmj disorders (like jaw pain, clicking/popping in the joint, headaches and neck pain), improper swallow pattern, mouth breathing, and yes - even diagnoses of sleep apnea and ADD/ADHD. Please watch this and future videos for more information!

    This information would certainly be beneficial for pediatricians, lactation specialists and speech pathologists.
    There are also many new mothers that struggle with nursing not knowing about this problem and could use some help.

    When I took Lucas to his pediatric dentist last time they told me he had posterior tongue tie.... but they didn’t say he has anterior plus from what I can tell he doesn’t have anterior either. Really like this video! Super informative! ❤️😊

    This was so helpful. I wish I knew this when I was nursing. Are lactation consultants educated on this? This would be great information for them to share for some struggling mothers with nursing.

      Some lactation consultants are very savvy about tongue ties and, sadly, others are not. I did not receive support or guidance from my lactation consultants on this and to this day, it breaks my heart that I didn't have this knowledge when I needed it most.

    Great video! can you comment a little more on how proper tongue rest position stimulates cranial nerves and release of growth hormones ? is this related to the slight suction happening ?

    • @theTMJdoc
      @theTMJdoc  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Jill! The tongue suction against the roof of the mouth AND the extra pressure exerted from a correct swallow pattern stimulates the cranial movement. When the cranial movement is ideal, the pituitary gland (which releases growth hormone) and the cranial nerves are stimulated. This article has more information regarding the cranial movement.

    Hi mam, my sister who is 30+ went for simple visual checkup to a dentist . But he instead inserted a u shape plastic material & asked her to clench teeth n it severely injured her otherwise asymptomatic wisdom tooth & gave her gum disease & vibrations throughout. she has been having heacdaches & eye infection and jarring sensations / overall discomfort ...Pl suggest its been 5 months & as a result her bottom tooth got crowded. We r from India....

    How many people could be affected by class 3 and 4 tongue ties and just not know?

    • @theTMJdoc
      @theTMJdoc  3 роки тому

      Thank you for your question! I would say a LOT of people could be affected and not know as this gene is dominant so it’s passed on easily.

    Hi, is there any office you would recommend in Portland, OR for adults with tongue tie?
    I just went to the VA and had an appointment with ENT office and the doctor said I don’t have it, but for various reasons I don’t trust her. She said headaches are not a symptom of tongue tie and one of her justifications was that I had no problem talking with her. When I asked her why I can’t lift my tongue up when I place my finger under my tongue she said she was not sure, maybe I just have a weak tongue.
    Maybe I don’t, but this is the first time I’ve felt I needed a 2nd look and want someone who’s dealt with more adult cases.
    Any recommendations would be appreciated

    I have a theory that my low tongue posture caused my periodontal disease which exists only being my front bottom teeth. I have never really had issues with my teeth (never had a cavity until I was an adult). Do you think this is possible? And now that I discovered my tie, had a release, and have been working on proper tongue posture- is it possible that the periodontal disease will improve? Or is the damage done and there's no going back?

    • @theTMJdoc
      @theTMJdoc  2 роки тому +1

      With periodontal disease, if bone is lost then it typically cannot "grow" back. Gums can recover to a certain degree.
