For clarity and some scale- Elidibus made a time gate that allowed us personally to travel through time. The Tycoon brought the entire Crystal Tower back in time and through to a parallel world.
The CT made a one way trip with no way back, thus allowing the creation of a new timeline. The gate means two way travel is possible, so it becomes a time loop.
@@JDSleeper Well, it only became a one way trip once we destroyed the Tycoon. The 'new timeline' brings up an interesting idea- there's a timeline out there where the Ascians pretty much won. The whole plan to change history was built on the assumption that when history changed Graha would disappear. The fact that he didn't would imply that this alternate timeline still exists and is ongoing. Another possible target for a future expansion...

An event that happens immediately following their departure (to put it in unspoilery terms) definitely leads to the idea that their world may not be as completely screwed as they thought. I can definitely see some Eighth Astral Era action happening.

Elidibus' warning might be simply that if you try and solve the Final Days in the past, you'll just create a split, and solve nothing in the timeline you return to.
I can't recommend enough that you two explore all the side quests in this zone. Either in your own time, or on stream, because some of it is just hilarious.

Endwalker made me cry in the most unexpected places. Meeting Elidibus again was one of those times. Everything about the Elpis chapter, from returning to The First to the end, was my favorite part of the entire expansion.
There's a beautiful fan theory about the striking "glow" we see in Hades' and Hythlodaeus' eyes, which I do not know if it has been confirmed or denied by the devs: Considering the other Ancient Greek parallels already established with the Ancients, the glow could be reference to 'Emission Theory'; an ancient Greek theory which proposed that eyesight worked based on beams cast from your eyes.
So there is a line in Stormblood patch quests or Shadowbringers where Emet implies he used his magic to alter Solus's appearance to look more like himself. So that's why Solus and Hades look the same.
@@RockR277 When they were discussing the Solus cloning vats that the Garleans created, he tells Varis how he can mold a body into whatever look he wants. So presumably he changed the original Solus' body to somewhat match his ancient form. Then in Shadowbringers, he tells us that he took a body on the first and molded it to look like Solus.
I'm glad from the opening footage that you were able to go back and get a non-fogged shot of the "welcome to Elpis" cutscene. It's always disappointing when streamers get there and it's all fogged up... it really dulls the impact. I had beautiful weather when I got there and my jaw dropped.

I love Hythlodaeus. He's just the god damn best. He's so lovable, so fun, and so supportive as a friend. Just meeting Hythlo's shade in ShB Amaurot you can tell "If this man was Emet's best friend, I too would burn the world many times over to bring this beautiful man back." Hythlodaeus is just the best.
Its so funny, but he's actually had those fans since the fake version of him in Glamaurot talked to us in ShB msq. I still can't really place what it was about his character, but a lot of us just immediately liked him. Probably the "new old friend" stuff and how he was friendly to the WoL.
I am well pleased that the moment pokebattles comes up, we get Lord of Verminion footage despite literally no streamer ever seeming to talk about that bit of content.
I can't wait to see you guys play this section. It blew my mind, and I had a lot of the same thoughts you guys are pointing having. The Azim Steppe isn't the only time you hear that similar name. Retrospectively, I was thinking it's possible Azim travelled so much that that name became some kind of legend in many places of the world, even if they don't remember the origins anymore. I think the Lopporits would wreck Zenos if he attacked them tbh. They have creation magic to a certain extent that was given to them by Hadelyn.

To say I've been hyped for this particular "Well, Kyle?" would be an understatement. e: as I'm sure folks have told you, Azem's pronouns change based on the character you created.
The Tycoon didn't power the Tower's time travel, it controlled it, and was going robo-crazy which is why you destroyed it. So you need something to interface with the Crystal Tower to do all the calculations to perform time travel. Which is what Elidibus handles.
Given that the Tycoon was based on Alexander, and Alexander very quickly realized that its existence was a net negative for the world, I choose to believe that the Tycoon chose death by adventurer to prevent anyone from misusing the time control.
That was because Alexander was a Primal and knew that it would drain the land dry of aether. The Tycoon was built based on the Blueprints that Alexander was summoned based on, it shouldn't have the same problem. But your idea has merit in terms of it choosing to be destroyed by the Warrior of Light yes. Also worth noting the Tycoon is based on Omega too.@@Salt_Mage

Also the gender of Azem is determined by your characters gender, since you're both playing as males it's He/Him but for female characters it's She/Her.

I think the masks are actually explained in Hades' recreation of Amaraut. A quest (possibly side quest) explains everyone dresses alike because standing out too much as an individual creates jealousy and strife. Obviously, masks is a part of everyone dressing identically, so that no person looks more attractive than everyone else.
As an avid textbox-clicker what I got from Hydalin is that she's basically a crystallized battery in emergency-signal mode at present day. Mustering brief moments of sentient messages to the WoL. That crystal needs a /headpat, and probably a /hug.

To clarify with the Greek gods/olympions, technicality: hades isn’t counted but still considered a big Greek god, and another was named hestia who was replaced eventually by one of the others, so while there are only ever 12 Olympians, you can argue via technicality that there have been 14 of them
17:15 They really need to get around fixing that dynamic weather stuff, especially in reveals like this. There is a nonzero chance that someone's first time playthrough might not be as great as it could be when a character suddenly points towards the sky (*cough* Emet's first monologue with the scions in the First *cough*).
I think that the twinning did remove the time travel component but that's what Elidibus replaces with his remaining essence ala primal/ascian power to kick start again. The spell/magiks were in the tower just needed enough juice to make it work
Guys, it’s not fan service. The story of Endwalker was already written before Shadowbringers was released. They have to take it on faith that players will connect with these characters because like them or not they are coming back. Not fan service. Just proper planning.
Go ahead and google it. The writers FINISHED the Endwalker story in October 2019, Shadowbringers came out a mere three months earlier that July. They already knew what they were doing and where they wanted to go.
Spicy cooking session this time, and I cant wait for the elpis stream. Also a lot of people bemoan time travel as plot device, but in 14's case it manages to weave everything together with past lire tidbits that it earns it imo. The entire elpis section was a fun ride especially as a fan of Hyth and the ascian aesthetic.
To be fair, Zenos will have one of the most hilarious lines in the entire game later on. The direction they went was not what anyone expected. In the end, he truly considered us a friend no matter how weird he is about it.
They do such a good job calling back on their own lore and mindfully using characters that you might not expect but in that moment make perfect sense. Also seeing Hades unburdened by grief and angry is a lovely touch.
Such a good video, thank you! This was the only EW zone that I went out of my way to do all the side quests in. Just because I wanted to experience everything and get all the optional lore I could.

I think that the twinning did remove the time travel component but that's what Elidibus replaces with his remaining essence ala primal/ascian power to kick start again. The spell/magiks were in the tower just needed enough juice to make it work

Guys, it’s not fan service. The story of Endwalker was already written before Shadowbringers was released. They have to take it on faith that players will connect with these characters because like them or not they are coming back.

Go ahead and google it. The writers FINISHED the Endwalker story in October 2019, Shadowbringers came out a mere three months earlier that July. They already knew what they were doing and where they wanted to go.

Also a lot of people bemoan time travel as plot device, but in 14's case it manages to weave everything together with past lire tidbits that it earns it imo. The entire elpis section was a fun ride especially as a fan of Hyth and the ascian aesthetic.

To be fair, Zenos will have one of the most hilarious lines in the entire game later on. The direction they went was not what anyone expected. In the end, he truly considered us a friend no matter how weird he is about it.
They do such a good job calling back on their own lore and mindfully using characters that you might not expect but in that moment make perfect sense. Also seeing Hades unburdened by grief and angry is a lovely touch.
