The trailer for EW is undoubtedly a love letter for those who played XIV since the beginning. The fact that it uses motifs from the previous expansions that came before it, ultimately ending with EW's Song of Hope is just perfect. Also the WoL's switch from Dark Knight to Paladin, the numerous FFIV references is almost non-stop that I can't help but smile at the things that CBU3 has sprinkled in this expansion.
This is one of those weird chronological things you can't know unless you were there, but due to when 5.55 came out this trailer was the reveal for Reaper. Earlier, the shorter teaser version of the trailer revealed Sage.
yeah I remember speculating on what Zenos's weapon would be, since 5.5 teased it, and the short reveal trailer showed the zenos chair scene but not his weapon, but you could kind of make out a scythe shape so people were excited anticipating a scythe class. I was among them because scythes are cool as weapons.
Don't fret about Emet. The ENTIRE Endwalker story was already planned out BEFORE Shadowbringers released. Therefore NOTHING can occur just because "fans loved this in Shadowbringers!"

I remember Hythlodaeus in Amaurot mentioning the crystal of Azem, how the crystals are usually made by those whos memories are imprinted on them, but Azem's crystal was made by a friend of Azem. I think that was because Azem already bailed on the Fourteen by the time they started making them. So there's a nutty amount of ways those convenient plot crystals could be used.
Specifically, he says that 1. The crystal was made in secret by "a dear friend" (probably Emet, or at the very least one of the convocation) and that 2. It is imbued only with a singular invocation which represents the spirit of Azem, because they werent there to impart their memories.

I really do think he wanted to at least on several occasions try and convince at least one fragment of Azem to his cause, but that's all mostly irrelevant to this.
the Azem crystal is the only one left, the other 13 were given to and subsequently dissapeared with elidibus. Emet made it as he was in charge or raising up new ascians as he was the only one we know of on the convication with soulsight

You guys missed it because ARR doesnt "really" have a main theme, But in the urianger and thancred section, they used the "torn from the heavens" motif which is kind of the scions theme song if not the warrior of lights theme song from ARR

@Amovetv There are articles that talk about how challenging it was doing quality control during covid due to everyone being spread out at the office or at home. The articles are a bit spoilery, though (even one from before release) so I'd recommend avoiding them for now. He also mentioned during the first digital fan fest that they were worried about not finishing the trailer in time.
The moment the WoL changed to Dark Knight in the ShB trailer I screamed, “WoL is gonna be a Paladin next expansion!!!” because this is a nod to Cecil from FFIV going from Dark Knight to Paladin during the game and I was SO glad I was right 😁
I hope they delve even deeper into the FFIV and Cecil connection in the future. The moment I saw that statue I was like 😊 I started my FF journey 30+ years ago with FFIV and Cecil and it's the reason why my main is a Paladin. Crazy that all of these years later the series is not only going strong but it is at its peak with FFXIV storytelling. I love this game like a man loves a woman lol

Unfortunately, this also exists in WoW. The movie trailers grossly misrepresenting the character models to those in the game. But this time, there had to be a team modeling the characters' faces who had no idea what G'raha, Thancred, and Y'sh look like in-game.
I dunno if it was a covid thing but it did feel like the models in the Endwalker trailer felt a little bit off, compared to the Shadowbringers trailer.

This one is weird for me because this is the first expansion I was actively involved in following the build up for and there is alot of interesting information and "dude in a room" pieces of info that we got from the Fan Fests building up to Endwalker that just isn't present in your experience.
I always say that Shadowbringers is like a grand symphony in which every single note is played flawlessly and Endwalker is like an even more ambitious grand symphony in which a couple of notes don't quite hit right. It is a tough call but for me, I prefer the concise, flawless symphony that is Shadowbringers. Although I think I prefer the ending in Endwalker a teeny tiny bit more.
my god this was glorious! I remember when you asked if people were satisfied with your reaction but no I think your video format is what we all thirsted for! This was one of my favorite recap episodes you’ve done and I’m highly anticipating the rest no matter how long it’s gonna take. You two are pushing ffxiv content to its full potential and I do really appreciate you for that on the same level I do with pint to name a prominent example. I think it’s your specialization in podcast-like shows in combination with all the passion surrounding this story that makes for some of the most engaging gaming content ever and I truly mean it. I know it’s easy to downplay it as just some UA-cam videos of nerds reacting to a story but.. the way this story is being told by the game itself yearns of the type of interaction and discussion you provide. It wants to be torn apart and retold, sat and danced with, fantasized and thought about. So no i personally was not satisfied with your reaction. But it was not a matter of performance but rather of format. I love the heavy cooking videos. Y'all broke out the deep fryers and tossed everything in, seeing what floated up. I also have to say, the natural ability you have at being shockingly spot on while also in the same moment being completely off the mark is second to none. Fun Fact: the far Edge of Fate is the title of the MSQ (in 3.56) that leads you into SB and starting the plotline we've been following since, opening up the world/Planet to explore. In a sense ARR and HW were "just" there for worldbuilding and introduction.

Honestly, when I first did Endwalker I assumed the reason we had Emet narrating was because he was still on our minds from when we defeated him. Like the ghost of his memory was still with us (not his actual ghost of course)
Me on the other hand just latched on his Greek God name and assumed he got on his rightful place in the underworld and chilled there while he watched us adventure. xD
it's amazing how this recap of just the trailer reminds me of so many nuances of the story... in retrospect, wow... just... wow... I can't wait to see you play through the MSQ. I've never wanted to see a playthrough live more than this.
Great video as always, 2 things to point out. Great transitions on the Shadowbringers trailer, especially the audio. Second the yelling pictures on the Stormblood section of the EW trailer is just Chef's kiss.

An arrangement of Torn from the Heavens is playing in the part in the "mysterious city" (which is actually labelled on the map in Eorzean letters haha) which Thancred and Urianger show up in, so there's a nod to A Realm Reborn as well as the expansions in there. The connection might not be as obvious because it didn't play in the ARR cinematic. Anyway, good fun and I'm glad we got a bunch more theorizing from you for us to all go ":)" to! On that note... :)
They had to use a different animation studio for the trailer due to COVID at the time, which is why the characters look so shiny and clean instead of how they looked in the ShB trailer. On the plus side, they did get to use the original place in the new expac teaser, so when you get to it, enjoy.
i just started watching but i want to give a bit of context about how reaper was portrayed in the footfalls trailer. up until then there was NO confirmation reaper was even the new melee job. It was teased at most by yoshi-p's t shirt as he usually does, but until then everyone was in the dark about what the new melee job was, only sage was shown prior to hype things up. so when the full trailer finally dropped with the zenos section, people lost their minds because it was finally confirmation that reaper was in the game and peoples speculations were correct! also both reaper and sage got their own individual trailers if you havent seen it!
I never even noticed the “One Brings Shadow” motif when G’raha is on screen. I just figured there wasn’t a Shadowbringers motif because Endwalker is about wrapping up the story on the Source.
There are only two things I can really say about this video 1: I really can't wait to see them play 6.0 2: Garret has the exact same taste in music as I do even at the age of 34. lol
Honestly the spiral concept Kyle mentioned is actually a good theory I didn't even think of that they would trap knowledge, also considering Sharlayan's library, forum, mostlikely academic structure of society it wouldn't be a bad theory!
I love how thorough you guys have been covering your thoughts about so many characters and plot points etc. I can think of so many parts of Endwalker I'm really excited for you to reach and see whether your predictions were accurate or crazy.

I think it'd be fun to do like a mega-video going over all of your predictions before and see 1) how your theories changed and 2) how accurate/inaccurate/super out there you were.
Some tips for you. * You will now have *two* stories you will be playing through. - MSQ (Main Scenario Quest) is the story for FF XIV. This will give you most of your experience and gil. This is on the top left of your screen. - The other story is your Job Quest, which is the story for your job (based on weapon currently equipped in your main hand). This will give you gear and skills. When available, these quests will appear below the Main Scenario Quest in smaller letters. * The initial side quests (level 1-4) in the city will take you near all the mini-aetherytes and give you gil. * Please note that the MSQ gives quite a bit of experience and gil, so feel free to level multiple jobs to change things up. You can change jobs once you finish your level 10 job quest. * Take your time and explore your beginning city, Ul'dah. Touching all the mini-aetherytes will get you access to the 3 exits out of the city as well as the airship landing. You can also access the aethernet system through the Main large aetheryte. * Take your time with setting up the user interface and controller buttons the way you want. Doing so will make your levelling and playing the game much easier. * Hunting log is an easy way to get some experience. * There is an armoury bonus. Any job with a level less than your highest level job will get double experience until it reaches the same level as your highest level job. So feel free to experiment. * Do your Hall of the Novice quests to get exp bonus ring and a gear set. This is available at any Smith at lvl 15.
Havent watched the entire video yet but im gonna just say: FF4 has its main character transform from drk to pld during a pivotal moment. So the wol going from drk to pld had me on the floor
i know it's old hat by now, but man I love seeing Garrett going from "never going to play FF" to being all excited about playing all the tanks. I think they nail class fantasy in this game. And of course I'm super excited to see how both of them react to what's coming, they have some interesting predictions going on here. edit: Also Chicago is a fantasy city, got it.
I love Shadowbringer, its phenomenal how much it have accomplish in one expansion. But to me Endwalker is magical, how it complete the journey is forever seal in my memory, cementing the fact that FFXIV are the best game I have ever played.
"We already saw Zenos Reaper." The Endwalker trailer landed between patches 5.5 and 5.55, so this trailer was very much the first time they showed off Zenos as Reaper.

Slight correction - if you want to be a damage-dealing tank, DRK is the way to go. If you want a tank that plays more like a dps, GNB is the way to go. GNB is #2 dps for tanks, also, so there's that.
You know that meme that goes something like "at no point were you even close to anything that could be considered a coherent answer"? That is this. And it is great. Nothing in this trailer is going to prepare you for what comes next. It is a good reminder for us of us trying to figure out Dawntrail that nothing the trailer gives out is going to fully prepare us for whatever is coming next.
I know you have said you're not keen but the Tales of the Shadows Through His Eyes and Ere Our Curtain Falls really does provides a lot of flavor to the already known information about the Ancients, Amaurot, and Emet-Selch. It's not a "must" read but a beautiful read nonetheless.

Quick note. The cereal box worth of memory crystals were given to Elidibus after he was defeated atop the crystal tower.

It is a tough call but for me, I prefer the concise, flawless symphony that is Shadowbringers. Although I think I prefer the ending in Endwalker a teeny tiny bit more.
I always like how many different bands the intro gets compared to. I hadn't heard Incubus before. To me, it was Foo Fighters.
my god this was glorious! I remember when you asked if people were satisfied with your reaction but no I think your video format is what we all thirsted for! This was one of my favorite recap episodes you’ve done and I’m highly anticipating the rest no matter how long it’s gonna take. You two are pushing ffxiv content to its full potential and I do really appreciate you for that on the same level I do with pint to name a prominent example. I think it’s your specialization in podcast-like shows in combination with all the passion surrounding this story that makes for some of the most engaging gaming content ever and I truly mean it. I know it’s easy to downplay it as just some UA-cam videos of nerds reacting to a story but.. the way this story is being told by the game itself yearns of the type of interaction and discussion you provide. It wants to be torn apart and retold, sat and danced with, fantasized and thought about. So no i personally was not satisfied with your reaction. But it was not a matter of performance but rather of format. It showed me once more how special the way you are presenting things is and I wanted to write a little bit about it to applaud you, excited for endwalker! 💕

Fun Fact: the far Edge of Fate is the title of the MSQ (in 3.56) that leads you into SB and starting the plotline we've been following since, opening up the world/Planet to explore. In a sense ARR and HW were "just" there for worldbuilding and introduction.

Honestly, when I first did Endwalker I assumed the reason we had Emet narrating was because he was still on our minds from when we defeated him. Like the ghost of his memory was still with us (not his actual ghost of course)
Me on the other hand just latched on his Greek God name and assumed he got on his rightful place in the underworld and chilled there while he watched us adventure. xD

An arrangement of Torn from the Heavens is playing in the part in the "mysterious city" (which is actually labelled on the map in Eorzean letters haha) which Thancred and Urianger show up in, so there's a nod to A Realm Reborn as well as the expansions in there. The connection might not be as obvious because it didn't play in the ARR cinematic.

They had to use a different animation studio for the trailer due to COVID at the time, which is why the characters look so shiny and clean instead of how they looked in the ShB trailer. On the plus side, they did get to use the original place in the new expac teaser, so when you get to it, enjoy.

i just started watching but i want to give a bit of context about how reaper was portrayed in the footfalls trailer. up until then there was NO confirmation reaper was even the new melee job. It was teased at most by yoshi-p's t shirt as he usually does, but until then everyone was in the dark about what the new melee job was, only sage was shown prior to hype things up.
so when the full trailer finally dropped with the zenos section, people lost their minds because it was finally confirmation that reaper was in the game and peoples speculations were correct!
also both reaper and sage got their own individual trailers if you havent seen it!

I never even noticed the “One Brings Shadow” motif when G’raha is on screen. I just figured there wasn’t a Shadowbringers motif because Endwalker is about wrapping up the story on the Source.

Honestly the spiral concept Kyle mentioned is actually a good theory I didn't even think of that they would trap knowledge, also considering Sharlayan's library, forum, mostlikely academic structure of society it wouldn't be a bad theory!

I love how thorough you guys have been covering your thoughts about so many characters and plot points etc. I can think of so many parts of Endwalker I'm really excited for you to reach and see whether your predictions were accurate or crazy.

Love to see your theory videos! I don't remember, but have you guys ever gone back to re-reacted to them after an expansion? I think it'd be fun to do like a mega-video going over all of your predictions before and see 1) how your theories changed and 2) how accurate/inaccurate/super out there you were.
Some tips for you.
* You will now have *two* stories you will be playing through.
- MSQ (Main Scenario Quest) is the story for FF XIV. This will give you most of your experience and gil. This is on the top left of your screen.
- The other story is your Job Quest, which is the story for your job (based on weapon currently equipped in your main hand). This will give you gear and skills. When available, these quests will appear below the Main Scenario Quest in smaller letters.
* The initial side quests (level 1-4) in the city will take you near all the mini-aetherytes and give you gil.
* Please note that the MSQ gives quite a bit of experience and gil, so feel free to level multiple jobs to change things up. You can change jobs once you finish your level 10 job quest.
* Take your time and explore your beginning city, Ul'dah. Touching all the mini-aetherytes will get you access to the 3 exits out of the city as well as the airship landing. You can also access the aethernet system through the Main large aetheryte.
* Take your time with setting up the user interface and controller buttons the way you want. Doing so will make your levelling and playing the game much easier.
* Hunting log is an easy way to get some experience.
* There is an armoury bonus. Any job with a level less than your highest level job will get double experience until it reaches the same level as your highest level job. So feel free to experiment.
* Do your Hall of the Novice quests to get exp bonus ring and a gear set. This is available at any Smith at lvl 15.
Havent watched the entire video yet but im gonna just say: FF4 has its main character transform from drk to pld during a pivotal moment. So the wol going from drk to pld had me on the floor
i know it's old hat by now, but man I love seeing Garrett going from "never going to play FF" to being all excited about playing all the tanks. I think they nail class fantasy in this game. And of course I'm super excited to see how both of them react to what's coming, they have some interesting predictions going on here.
edit: Also Chicago is a fantasy city, got it.
I love Shadowbringer, its phenomenal how much it have accomplish in one expansion.
But to me Endwalker is magical, how it complete the journey is forever seal in my memory, cementing the fact that FFXIV are the best game I have ever played.
"We already saw Zenos Reaper." The Endwalker trailer landed between patches 5.5 and 5.55, so this trailer was very much the first time they showed off Zenos as Reaper.
Can't wait for tomorrow, the walking begins!

If you've not seen it, I really recommend watching the launch trailer. It's dramatically more hype and enjoyable.
Slight correction - if you want to be a damage-dealing tank, DRK is the way to go. If you want a tank that plays more like a dps, GNB is the way to go. GNB is #2 dps for tanks, also, so there's that.

Nothing in this trailer is going to prepare you for what comes next. It is a good reminder for us of us trying to figure out Dawntrail that nothing the trailer gives out is going to fully prepare us for whatever is coming next.

I know you have said you're not keen but the Tales of the Shadows Through His Eyes and Ere Our Curtain Falls really does provides a lot of flavor to the already known information about the Ancients, Amaurot, and Emet-Selch. It's not a "must" read but a beautiful read nonetheless.
