I’ve always liked the idea of the V6 NG900. The V6 is a great engine and they are so rare now. The engines were made in Ellesmere Port in the United Kingdom not far from where I live. I’ve also got a NG900 - 2.0 Turbo and it’s a 94 which makes it like you say one of the rarest cars on the roads these days
Damn! One of those was the first manual car I ever drove on my L's back in about 2011. Didn't really know much/pay much attention to cars at the time, but I remember it overheating and pissing out water a few times. I remember it being decent to drive/powerful at the time. Ours was white with the same wheels I think. Interesting find.
Thanks, would have been a great car to learn in. Mine did have a split radiator and a very weak water pump when I bought it (last t/belt water pump service was 2005). The previous owner mentioned it needed to be topped up with coolant after some trips. Expected to do a head gasket it but thankfully that wasn't the case. What happened to your 900?
I can't wait for the video update on what's happing with the 1992 serena and most petrol versions for the c23 blew a head gasket due to 2 things one is a blockage that comes right after the thermostat due to normal water and Chalk build up and 2nd the rpm and horse power limiter built into the ecu to run at a lower rpm then it's other counter parts can do
Lucky me ; I have 2x Feb 1995 Saab 900s V6 like your - both run & drive ; the second one I got as a spares car. Let me know if you need a spare engine some time. Cheers
nice! I’ve owned 4 of these over the years, all with the 2.3 NA or 2.0 turbo. I’ve always wondered if the v6 versions use the same gearbox (saab f25) as the 4cyl. Or if it’s a GM box out of an Opel/vauxhall
I did have a check of transmission numbers, the number on mine is 8285082 and as far as I can tell that is a Saab only part just for the V6 in 1994 and 1995. There was a lot of changeover mechanically from 1994-95 cars to 1996 model year cars, so that might be where they share the same gearbox. There were less bespoke V6 parts (as I found out with mine) in later cars. There's a few Saab parts manufactured by GM for Saab's use, the auto box for the V6 is one of them.
If you want me to I have the whole service books from volume 1 to 8 about the serena If you want some volumes of it I can photocopy it and send it to you through a email
Please do, thanks for the offer. The Serena is at a mechanic and its been there for a while. It hasn't been high on the list of priorities as Nik's other car had issues and I have been doing a lot of rental cars. This one had an issue prior, we found sealant on the gasket itself. It then let go later just as it was about to be registered. Please email me at turn6garage@gmail.com, can you photocopy an engine strip down diagram?
