      Justin is really selling these tusk footpegs for the DRZ400-S; and had me sold.
      The link provided takes you to a well organized page with all the mods he talks about including be tusk footpeg; nice work rmatvmc.
      UNFORTUNATELY, when I click on the tusk footpegs, the product page says they are not compatible with the DRZ400-S.
      I emailed rmatvmc about it, even provided the link to this video which clearly shows a happy Justin praising the tusk pegs on the DRZ400S....but I just got an email reply saying sorry this product isn't compatible with the DRZ.
      Clearly it is compatible otherwise they wouldn't be on the bike in the video, lol.
      Soooo just looking to the youtube community for clarification. Is it the "Yamaha TW200" version of the Peg that fits the DRZ? Or some other version of the tusk footpeg?
      Cheers

    I had two DRZ-400’s and loved them both. My first I bought off a friend who put a full FMF titanium pipe on it and I added a Dynojet Stage 1 kit to it. It was a real fun machine on the backroads!

    to anyone building up their drz, avoid the stamped aluminium engine case protectors, the adhesive ruins the paint after a while and all the shock from an impact goes straight through into the engine casing, ask me how I know. I recommend the plastic polisport engine protectors, they have better coverage and have saved my ass a few times in a way that the ali ones would have failed me. worth every penny!

    you influenced my build on my drz a few years back.. I took alot of your ideas and installed the gear you suggested. It was a great bike for sure, had a blast on the trails in big bend tx. Def like the idea of rackless bags though, i had the pannier rack on mine with bags and my foot got caught in between the bags and a rock.. I didn't get hurt but you can bet i pulled the bags off for the next ride. thx for the vid

    Ive owned a DRZ400 from '06-'20 and used it as an adventure. Currently run a '21 690 which ticks all of boxes for me. Split the case and put the ACT wide-ratio gears in the DRZ and it works. That stock transmission is not flexible enough for adventure.

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  10 місяців тому +1

      I do wish the DRZ had a 6 speed, but for most the rides i do, it is fine. I must agree that the 690 is a great ADV bike as well. I also have the 701, but the short/more offroad rides, I prefer the DRZ. - Justin

  • @kiwiadventurer
    @kiwiadventurer 9 місяців тому +2

    Thanks for your most informative video. The DRZ has a high seat height standard so how do you find the height of the deeper comfort seat? Over here in New Zealands South Island I frequent remote areas with lots of river crossings and the seat height is singly the most challenging part of riding the bike. If the bike is wanting to fall over my feet don't extend out from the bike enough to give me stability. I guess I just have to live with it. I don't need all the ground clearance and to be able to drop the bike a couple of inches would make all the difference. What do you think?

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  9 місяців тому

      Thanks for your message. A lot of people complain abut the seat height of the DRZ. Coming from motocross bikes, It hasn't ever bothered me, but i understand what you mean. it is tall. Surprisingly, the DR650 sits much lower and is a better bike for sorter riders. The Comfort seat didn't change the seat height that i noticed. They may make a shorter one, but if you do that, you are just losing cushion. A lot of guys run lowering links on the rear shock and then drop the forks in the triple clamps (raise the fork, drop the triple clamps) to get better ground clearance. i have never tried that setup, but it seems like the best solution. - Justin

      No, I am running stock gearing. 1st gear is a bit tall in certain situations, but I am pretty good at keeping momentum and not being hard on the clutch, so it hasn't been an issue. I would hate to give up anything on the highway as it isn't tall enough for that. - Justin

    Justin, What's your trick to keeping a tank bag from smashing (kinking) the vent hose on the fuel cap of an aftermarket fuel tank cap?
    I want a tank bag on my DRZ, but I've never run a tank bag on my DRZ with a 3.2 IMS tank because it would smash the vent hose.

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  10 місяців тому +1

      Fantastic question! Initially I got a vacuum line elbow from and auto parts store and put it on the cap and ran my breather hose off that. It worked great until it fell off and i lost it :). I then just ran some Tusk 1/4" black fuel line and let the tank bag smash it as a temporary fix. Here I am a year later still using it. It is a bit smashed, but not kinked, and it still breathes fine. One if these days I will find another rubber vacuum elbow and try again. - Justin
