  • Today I am doing a 1 hour colouring challenge in Johanna Basford's new colouring book Small Victories. I am using my Derwent Drawing pencils for this challenge. As there is only 24 colours in this set, I won't be listing the individual colours below, as I'm using pretty much all of them, apart from the blues and greys. I'm also using my Caran d'ache Blender Pencil.
If you don't have Derwent Drawing, you can definitely use Polychromos or any other set of colours. Just pick the muted, earthy tones.

Please do more with these colors! I'm a 'Prismacolor devotee", but when I saw these subdued, natural tones, I just had to buy a tin of Derwent's. Thank you for sharing your talent. :)

we pulled the pods in two pieces, held them high up in the air, and let them fall...they kind of rotated down in a spin :) Love the color palette

I’m glad the Polychromos suggestions were helpful. I know so many of you use those. Pretty much for this picture, sticking to the bottom Polychromos tray with the earthy hues, and adding in the three greens I mentioned, will have you set to follow. You may just need to repeat your layers a few times more.

Hello French woman writting so excuse my english.... Can u tell me what the difference between burnish and blender please ? In French brunissage et estompage. You said you didn't burnish because you wanted to colour after I didn't know this. Thank you to take time to explain to me how these two difference things work. I love your vidéos merci beaucoup to share. I am a beginner and I love very very much coloring.

Thanks for taking the time to ask the question.
When you burnish, you are pushing down hard and flattening the tooth of the paper. The tooth is what the colour attaches itself to, so when you flatten it, you can’t add much more colour.
Blending can be done in many different ways, but the purpose is to “mix out” the colour better, to help cover the tooth of the paper without flattening it. You can blend by gently using a blender pencil or pen, you can also use a liquid like odourless mineral spirits, which you apply gently with a paint brush or a paper stump, or you can blend using a lighter coloured pencil. I have used all these methods in different videos. When you blend you leave yourself room to add in more colour later, if you need it.
      I hope that makes sense.

o thank u very much to answer... it makes sense. I know the different ways of blending but to burnish i didn't know. Again love your videos and I learn a lot from you. Je suis passionnée par le coloriage. Merci beaucoup de partager. @@MaritsColourfulAdventures
