Superliminal dose this kind of gameplay really well and is one of the best 'meta' games out there along with Stanley Parable imo. And also Stanley Parable has the best narrator ever thank you Kevan Brighting.
The Narrator just genuinely works because while he is definitely some kind of higher entity, he is also very human. Gets annoyed at you, a lot, talks down to you if you're (usually intentionally) being a dumb@ss, but also gets worried and downright depressed at times.
You empathise with him, despite him being nothing but a disembodied voice!
There's a games that's a parody of The witness called The looker, that game is fun and takes the piss out of games just like this

The voice over in this is like in that terrible Gothic remake demo, where the main character would not stop fucking talking and narrating every single thing.
Spot on, which is the goddamn antithesis of the atmospheric immersion of the original Gothic I+II.

I think I've hit the point were I think adums viewers are more jaded than the man himself is this particular game is enjoyable enough that the 5 ish hours it takes to beat makes your companion characters chatter not as bad as it's being made out to be. Actually nawh this game was never going to appeal to this particular audience and that's OK

Jesus Christ they ruined this game. I remember watching the demo for this on Alpha Beta Gamer’s channel a while ago, and the peaceful bird and wind noises really complemented the surreal gameplay. What a shame.
Lol Adam and everyone in these comments are way overreacting about this. The voices are not that big of a deal. There’s less of it as the game goes on for plot reasons as well.
I played through the whole thing and it was a very enjoyable experience.

@@RipperTips The creative choice was terrible regardless. The fact that it's optional makes it worse. It's like they knew people would find it annoying but did it anyway.
This thread reminds me of how much this particular community hates life is strange and as a counterpoint to that and related to this both games 100% nail a specific group of people and there manurisims viewfinder makes it easier to ignore the other character than not for the most part because only like 4 of the conversations happen without player input. I personally don't find the normie chatter that annoying and that's what it is normie stuff

Adding that narrator in the beginning parts of the game is definitely an interesting choice, especially the writing. At least they weren't as present during the latter half.
The mechanics are at least interesting. Also, agree with Adum: games like these should definitely have a map editor. Create it, clear it first, then let others try out what you made. Kinda like Mario Maker.
I maybe wrong but I think the demo for this game was without a narrator.

YMS and Vinny know of each other's existence. My niche fandoms have grown to the point where they now overlap.
I turned off the voice overs a few minutes into my playthrough and it made the game much more enjoyable. It's a fun game overall, but the voice over is absolutely awful.

I think the problem is she is so insanely enthusiastic and quirky when nothing in the game is that exciting or stimulating
They were likely trying to go for a Glados from Portal thing, but without Glados' biting-wit or genuine hatred for the player-character.
When i played this i dont remember the game having a protaganist voice , did they add it after or did i erase her from my memory
There is no protagonist voice. It’s another person talking to your character. And its always been there.
you could have been equally annoyed by her on first level as many people.

the gimick of this game outweight the issue of the narrator imo perspective puzzles are fin as fuck but all puzzle games have to portal
I'm glad scoot is there to defend the game because it's actually really funny. I think it's pretty clear Adum just has some kind of unconscious bias against women. The narration in this game is what helped me get into it and it's very funny and relatable, wish scoot plays was more active...

Atrocious voice acting. Sometimes its the director. In this case, I think she was drinking during recording. Devil's advocate position : low budget game got the best person that they could for the money. Still bad though.
The game gives me motion sickness. With Talos Principle (and Portal) concepts, it *seemed* like a good choice.

Nah. The commentary being on by default implies it's the intended experience. Therefore, criticism is warranted and necessary.

The very first level showed here doing "Marvel One-liners / So That Just Happened" trope, some people don't mind it, some people HATE it, and first impressions matter.
"game is easy" is popular topic of many puzzle games. Some complain that The Witness is too hard, while some create yet another Portal mod that has massive spike in difficulty compared to original.
“Let someone else do it better.” Adum as mentioned is after The Witness and The Talos Principle... both are quite harder games if done to completion. And he complements the idea, just wishes for more content and a tool to create custom levels.
